How to Support the Rob Skinner Podcast.  If you would like to help support my mission to multiply disciples, leaders and churches, click here:  https://www.buymeacoffee.com/robskinner   Transcript of How to Enjoy Peace of Mind   When Jesus was about to leave this world, he told his disciples, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”  (John 14:27) He knew that he was headed for the cross.  He knew his disciples were going to experience trials, tough times and lots of trouble.  His gift to them was peace.  Peace of mind.  I think the idea of peace of mind gets overlooked today.  There is a lot of study on the concept of happiness, and I think these things are related.  Happiness is often connected to what you have, who you're with and where you are going.  Peace is independent of all of those things and is available to every disciple in every circumstance, right now. I want you to think about a time when you were enjoying peace of mind.  When you really felt calm and joyful inside.  What was that like?  Can you share about that experience? Let's take a look at how to enjoy more of the gift Jesus gave us, the gift of peace. 1.    Abstain from Sinful Desires.  Peter shares this in 1 Peter 2:11, “11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul.”  There is nothing that will destroy your peace of mind more easily than unrestrained sinful desires.  This is why Jesus counsels in Matthew 5:30 that, “if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off.”  Jesus is not being mean or “old school,” he's being realistic.  If you are compromising or tolerating a certain level of sin in your life, you're going to have difficulty enjoying the peace of mind Jesus promises.  Peter rephrases Jesus' command by telling us to abstain, which means, “to refrain deliberately and often with an effort of self-denial from an action or practice.”  That can mean alcohol, swearing, media consumption, shopping, news binging and other controlling habits. As a disciple of Jesus, this world is not your home.  You need to live with a level of detachment as a foreigner.  When Pam and I lived in Japan, there were many things that went straight over our heads as foreigners and “Gai-Jin.”  The jokes, the culture, the conformity to custom. If you want peace of mind, don't negotiate, don't tolerate, don't rationalize, instead abstain.  As Thomas A'Kempis said in the Imitation of Christ, “true peace of heart is found in resisting passions, not in yielding to them.” 2.   Put your love into action.  1 John 3:16-19.  16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.  19 This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence.” Resisting evil is only one part of the equation to find peace.  John advises us to live and love like Jesus did.  Loving in actions and truth reminds you that you belong to the truth and sets your heart at rest in his presence.  It doesn't earn you a spot in heaven, but it reminds you of your identity as a child of God.  If you want peace of mind, wake up each day with a determination to actively serve someone, help someone, encourage someone, assist someone, help someone move, comfort someone, advise someone, offer someone your time, energy or expertise.  Next time you are prompted by the spirit, act on that nudge.  Love in action and truth.  Enjoy peace of mind and set your heart at rest in his presence. 3.   Remember God is Greater than Your Feelings.  1 John 3:19-20.  This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: 20 If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. Our feelings and thoughts are often the worst offenders when it comes to disrupting our peace of mind.  Our self-judgment, self-criticism, wacky thoughts, catastrophic fears, fatalistic ideas, borrowed concepts from the world, childhood thoughts, inherited ideas all contribute to a lack of peace.  As Tom Ferry says, “"Negative self-talk is the equivalent of letting a drunk monkey loose in your kitchen." That's when we need to remind ourselves that God is far greater than our feelings.  Our feelings don't define reality, they are only an impression of reality.  The God who made the world, who chose you before the creation of the world, who personally showed up in the world to rescue you is going to bring to completion what he started when he called you.  He knows all about you and your quirks, faults and failures and he still adores you.  You need to take captive those misguided thoughts and make them obedient to Christ, who is greater than your heart. Take some time each day to sit quietly and focus on the greatness of God, a scripture or a noble thought.  When a weird thought pops up, don't freak out.  Just look at it and ask yourself, is this thought from God?  What's the reality? 4.  Actively pursue peace of mind.  2 Timothy 2:22.  “22 Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” If you have overlooked, undervalued or ignored the concept of peace of mind, it might be time to reevaluate it.  Jesus considered it a top gift and at the critical event of his life, the cross, he gave the gift of peace to those who followed him.  You might want to find out why Jesus considered it so important.  In fact, I'd do more than think about it, I'd pursue it.  Make it a priority along with righteousness, faith a love.  All the “cool kids” who have pure hearts are doing it.  I like what Naval Ravikant shares in his almanack:  “When I was younger, I really, really valued freedom. Freedom was one of my core values. Ironically, it still is. It's probably one of my top three values, but it's now a different definition of freedom. My old definition was “freedom to.” Freedom to do anything I want. Freedom to do whatever I feel like, whenever I feel like. Now, the freedom I'm looking for is internal freedom. It's “freedom from.” Freedom from reaction. Freedom from feeling angry. Freedom from being sad. Freedom from being forced to do things. I'm looking for “freedom from,” internally and externally, whereas before I was looking for “freedom to.” Naval is not a disciple, but I think there is value here.  Peace of mind is “freedom from.”  You can enjoy peace, joy, and contentment in any stage of life, relationship status, financial circumstance, health status, location or any other environment.  Make a decision that you are going to pursue peace of mind.  Make it a conscious goal to enjoy Jesus' gift to you.

In this watery simulation of an episode, Matt and Chris uncover the true purpose of Scott Adams' existence: not to shape reality, but to provide training data for future AIs working on plumbing-related problems. Somewhere in a cosmic server farm, Scott is endlessly confronted with blocked drains, dripping faucets, and municipal water conspiracies, while his “insights” fuel the next generation of household maintenance bots.Against this surreal backdrop, Naval Ravikant enters the scene — investor, tweeter, self-styled philosopher, and, in practice, just another discourse surfer riding the waves of online conspiracism. The conversation opens with a familiar chorus of right-wing talking points, drifts into feverish speculation about lawfare, censorship, and “imported voters,” and finally winds down in the dim light of dorm-room metaphysics, where slogans like “happiness is a choice” are served up as if they were profound insights.Naval presents himself as a detached sage, offering a boutique blend of political commentary and Daoist-tinged wisdom. In reality, he delivers little more than predictable polemics and recycled aphorisms. Imagining himself a great man of history dispensing lyrical truths in tweet-sized form, he produces nothing that rises above the usual culture-war debris. The posture is Buddha-with-a-smartphone; the reality is a credulous tech elite mistaking his own Twitter feed for a philosophy seminar. What follows is Elon-as-Ben-Franklin fanboying, Trump rebranded as a “bottom-up” leader of the people, and a level of self-congratulation so thick it could be used to terraform Mars. By the end, you may find yourself nostalgic for the leaky pipes in Scott's simulation — at least they produce real water...SourcesModern Wisdom (Chris Williamson): 44 Harsh Truths About The Game Of Life - Naval Ravikant (4K)Real Coffee with Scott Adams: Conversation with Naval Ravikant

What does it take for an idea to stand the test of time and shape generations? In this episode, Eric Jorgenson returns on The Greatness Machine to explore the enduring power of timeless ideas and transformative storytelling. Joining host Darius Mirshahzadeh, they dive into what makes certain books iconic and how mystics like Rumi and Jesus continue to influence modern philosophy. The conversation touches on Peter Thiel's strategic takedown of Gawker and its broader implications for media. They also discuss Ryan Holiday's approach to reviving Stoicism for today's audience and challenge the notion that originality is essential, instead highlighting the power of revisiting and reframing old ideas in fresh, relevant ways. Together, they unpack the intersection of mysticism, media, and modern thought, revealing why some ideas resonate across generations. In this episode, Darius and Eric will discuss: (00:00) Introduction and Welcome (02:52) The Impact of Naval Ravikant's Work (06:05) Exploring Fame and Ego (12:11) Eric's Journey and Scribe Media (15:07) Book Publishing Insights (22:37) The Art of Writing and Capturing Attention (27:15) Spiritual Awakening and Life-Changing Insights (29:52) The Power of Books and Personal Growth (47:57) Recognizing Genius in Others (50:10) The Power of Stoicism and Modern Philosophy (52:05) Exploring Mysticism and Its Relevance Today (54:04) Translating Ancient Wisdom for Modern Audiences (56:41) The Importance of Historical Context in Philosophy (01:01:03) The Challenge of Approaching Mysticism (01:04:32) Cultural Perceptions and Historical Realities Eric Jorgenson is an author, investor, and creator known for distilling complex ideas into accessible wisdom. Eric Jorgenson is the CEO of Scribe Media, the industry's largest professional publishing service, dedicated to helping entrepreneurs, executives, and experts write, publish, and market their books. Eric is also the bestselling author of The Almanack of Naval Ravikant and The Anthology of Balaji, with over a million copies sold. Beyond his publishing expertise, Eric is an investor in deep tech startups and an influential blogger and podcaster. His unique journey from author and curator to CEO-especially after helping revive Scribe Media from bankruptcy-makes him a fascinating guest with deep insights into the evolving world of book publishing, authorship, and leveraging books for business growth. On this episode we talk about: – The origin story behind The Almanack of Naval Ravikant and why Eric created it – The rise, fall, and rebirth of Scribe Media-and Eric's path to CEO – Key differences between traditional publishing, hybrid, and self-publishing models – How books can serve as powerful business assets beyond just royalties – The critical importance of quality and professionalism in publishing – Navigating advances, control, and intellectual property as an author – Why marketing and personal networks now drive book sales more than ever – The realities of bookstore placement, bestseller lists, and the modern publishing landscape Top 3 Takeaways 1. A book is more than a business card-it's a credential. A well-written, high-quality book can serve as a lifelong asset, building trust, authority, and opening doors for speaking, consulting, and business opportunities. 2. Control and flexibility matter. Traditional publishing can offer credibility and advances, but often at the cost of creative and financial control. Many authors now succeed by self-publishing or using hybrid models, retaining rights and maximizing ROI. 3. Marketing trumps distribution. In today's landscape, personal networks, podcasts, and word-of-mouth drive more book sales than traditional media or bookstore placement. Demonstrated demand online is what gets books into stores-not the publisher's logo. Notable Quotes “A good book is much more like a PhD. It's a credential you should be proud to put in front of whoever the most important person in your network is.” “Half-professional is unprofessional. If you're not proud to put your book in front of someone, you didn't invest enough time and effort.” “What really matters most is a great book. Your readers don't care who published it-they care about the value inside.” Connect with Eric Jorgenson: https://www.linkedin.com/in/erjorgenson Website: ejorgenson.com Scribe Media: scribemedia.com Check out FranBridge Consulting for premier non-food franchise opportunities: travischappell.com/franbridge Learn more about your ad choices. Dr. Keith Baar is a Professor at the University of California, Davis in the Department of Physiology and Membrane Biology. During his Ph.D. studies, his research revealed that mechanical strain on muscle fibers activates the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling pathway, a crucial regulator of muscular hypertrophy. Subsequently, he studied the molecular dynamics of skeletal muscle adaptation to endurance training under the guidance of Dr. John Holloszy, a legend in the field of exercise physiology, considered the father of modern exercise biochemistry. Building on all of this experience, he conducted research into tendon health and the potential for engineering ligaments, which could have implications for treatment and recovery from injuries.Sponsors:Cresset prestigious family office for CEOs, founders, and entrepreneurs: https://cressetcapital.com/tim (book a call today)AG1 all-in-one nutritional supplement: https://DrinkAG1.com/Tim (1-year supply of Vitamin D (and 5 free AG1 travel packs) with your first subscription purchase.)Shopify global commerce platform, providing tools to start, grow, market, and manage a retail business: https://shopify.com/tim (one-dollar-per-month trial period)*Links to everything discussed: https://tim.blog/2025/02/26/dr-keith-baar/Timestamps:[00:00:00] Start [00:07:12] How I discovered Keith's work through a tweet about tennis elbow and rock climbing.[00:07:54] Emil Abrahamsson's hangboard training protocol.[00:09:20] The fundamental principles of strength training and connective tissue adaptation.[00:10:36] mTOR complex 1 and its role in muscle growth.[00:12:06] Engineered ligaments and the discovery of minimal effective doses for tendon adaptation.[00:13:50] The refractory period between optimal tendon loading sessions.[00:16:42] Rapamycin's effects on muscle hypertrophy.[00:18:49] Protocols for tennis elbow rehabilitation.[00:20:28] Why isometrics work better than eccentrics for tendon healing.[00:22:14] Stress shielding and how load distribution affects tendon healing.[00:29:07] The misconception about eccentric loading for tendon injuries and why velocity matters.[00:29:58] Ideal duration for isometric holds (10-30 seconds) based on injury status.[00:33:50] My elbow issues and current rehab approach.[00:36:02] Overcoming vs. yielding isometrics and optimal loading strategies.[00:47:11] Dr. Barr's movement prescription for my tennis elbow.[00:52:18] Loading timing post-surgery and RICE protocol criticism.[00:56:58] Achilles tendon rehabilitation after surgery.[01:00:18] Critique of orthopedic suturing techniques and recommendation for resorbable sutures.[01:04:02] Multiple position isometrics for tennis elbow rehabilitation.[01:07:26] Collagen synthesis, supplementation, and vitamin C timing.[01:12:59] Critique of BPC-157 and other injectable peptides for tendon healing.[01:18:19] Evaluation of orthobiologics' (PRP, prolotherapy, stem cells) effectiveness.[01:21:37] JAK-STAT inhibitor drugs and their effects on tendon growth.[01:25:35] Drugs that increase risk of tendon ruptures (fluoroquinolones, AT-1 receptor drugs).[01:29:33] How estrogen affects tendon stiffness and injury risk in women.[01:32:48] Testosterone's opposite effects on tendon compared to estrogen.[01:35:31] Protein intake recommendations and timing.[01:40:11] Ketogenic diet effects on mitochondrial biogenesis and longevity.[01:41:57] Comparison of ketogenic diet, low protein diet, and rapamycin for longevity.[01:47:19] Inflammation's role in adaptation and when to reduce it.[01:51:17] Timing of ice baths relative to training for optimal recovery.[01:52:33] Parting thoughts.*For show notes and past guests on The Tim Ferriss Show, please visit tim.blog/podcast.For deals from sponsors of The Tim Ferriss Show, please visit tim.blog/podcast-sponsorsSign up for Tim's email newsletter (5-Bullet Friday) at tim.blog/friday.For transcripts of episodes, go to tim.blog/transcripts.Discover Tim's books: tim.blog/books.Follow Tim:Twitter: twitter.com/tferriss Instagram: instagram.com/timferrissYouTube: youtube.com/timferrissFacebook: facebook.com/timferriss LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/timferrissPast guests on The Tim Ferriss Show include Jerry Seinfeld, Hugh Jackman, Dr. Jane Goodall, LeBron James, Kevin Hart, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Jamie Foxx, Matthew McConaughey, Esther Perel, Elizabeth Gilbert, Terry Crews, Sia, Yuval Noah Harari, Malcolm Gladwell, Madeleine Albright, Cheryl Strayed, Jim Collins, Mary Karr, Maria Popova, Sam Harris, Michael Phelps, Bob Iger, Edward Norton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Neil Strauss, Ken Burns, Maria Sharapova, Marc Andreessen, Neil Gaiman, Neil de Grasse Tyson, Jocko Willink, Daniel Ek, Kelly Slater, Dr. Peter Attia, Seth Godin, Howard Marks, Dr. Brené Brown, Eric Schmidt, Michael Lewis, Joe Gebbia, Michael Pollan, Dr. Jordan Peterson, Vince Vaughn, Brian Koppelman, Ramit Sethi, Dax Shepard, Tony Robbins, Jim Dethmer, Dan Harris, Ray Dalio, Naval Ravikant, Vitalik Buterin, Elizabeth Lesser, Amanda Palmer, Katie Haun, Sir Richard Branson, Chuck Palahniuk, Arianna Huffington, Reid Hoffman, Bill Burr, Whitney Cummings, Rick Rubin, Dr. Vivek Murthy, Darren Aronofsky, Margaret Atwood, Mark Zuckerberg, Peter Thiel, Dr. Gabor Maté, Anne Lamott, Sarah Silverman, Dr. Andrew Huberman, and many more.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This time around, we have a bit of a different format, featuring the book that started it all for me, The 4-Hour Workweek. Readers and listeners often ask me what I would change or update, but an equally interesting question is: what wouldn't I change? What stands the test of time and hasn't lost any potency? This episode features one of the most important chapters from the audiobook of The 4-Hour Workweek. It includes tools and frameworks that I use to this day, including Pareto's Law and Parkinson's Law. The chapter is narrated by the great voice actor Ray Porter. If you are interested in checking out the rest of the audiobook, which is produced and copyrighted by Blackstone Publishing, you can find it on Audible, Apple, Google, Spotify, Downpour.com, or wherever you find your favorite audiobooks.Sponsors:ExpressVPN high-speed, secure, and anonymous VPN service: https://www.expressvpn.com/tim (get 3 or 4 months free on their annual plans) Momentous high-quality supplements: https://livemomentous.com/tim (code TIM for 20% off)Helix Sleep premium mattresses: https://HelixSleep.com/Tim (Between 20% and 27% off all mattress orders and two free pillows)*For show notes and past guests on The Tim Ferriss Show, please visit tim.blog/podcast.For deals from sponsors of The Tim Ferriss Show, please visit tim.blog/podcast-sponsorsSign up for Tim's email newsletter (5-Bullet Friday) at tim.blog/friday.For transcripts of episodes, go to tim.blog/transcripts.Discover Tim's books: tim.blog/books.Follow Tim:Twitter: twitter.com/tferriss Instagram: instagram.com/timferrissYouTube: youtube.com/timferrissFacebook: facebook.com/timferriss LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/timferrissPast guests on The Tim Ferriss Show include Jerry Seinfeld, Hugh Jackman, Dr. Jane Goodall, LeBron James, Kevin Hart, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Jamie Foxx, Matthew McConaughey, Esther Perel, Elizabeth Gilbert, Terry Crews, Sia, Yuval Noah Harari, Malcolm Gladwell, Madeleine Albright, Cheryl Strayed, Jim Collins, Mary Karr, Maria Popova, Sam Harris, Michael Phelps, Bob Iger, Edward Norton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Neil Strauss, Ken Burns, Maria Sharapova, Marc Andreessen, Neil Gaiman, Neil de Grasse Tyson, Jocko Willink, Daniel Ek, Kelly Slater, Dr. Peter Attia, Seth Godin, Howard Marks, Dr. Brené Brown, Eric Schmidt, Michael Lewis, Joe Gebbia, Michael Pollan, Dr. Jordan Peterson, Vince Vaughn, Brian Koppelman, Ramit Sethi, Dax Shepard, Tony Robbins, Jim Dethmer, Dan Harris, Ray Dalio, Naval Ravikant, Vitalik Buterin, Elizabeth Lesser, Amanda Palmer, Katie Haun, Sir Richard Branson, Chuck Palahniuk, Arianna Huffington, Reid Hoffman, Bill Burr, Whitney Cummings, Rick Rubin, Dr. Vivek Murthy, Darren Aronofsky, Margaret Atwood, Mark Zuckerberg, Peter Thiel, Dr. Gabor Maté, Anne Lamott, Sarah Silverman, Dr. Andrew Huberman, and many more.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
