The tackling competition is big on social media. Lawyer Matt Goodwin says most people participating would know there's a serious risk of injury, even death. Matt Goodwin joins John to unpack the UK's economic, cultural, and political turmoil. Matt describes a Britain grappling with stagnant growth, a severe cost-of-living crisis, and the fallout of mass immigration, including the grooming gang scandal that has shaken public trust. He highlights the rise of Nigel Farage's Reform Party, which is surging in polls by addressing voter frustrations over broken borders, and elite disconnect, signalling a potential reshaping of the two-party system.Matt also explores the erosion of trust in legacy institutions, fueled by perceived authoritarianism from the Labour government, such as restrictions on free speech and denialism about immigration's impacts. With optimism rooted in the British people's resilience, exemplified by Brexit, this episode delves into the cultural pushback against progressive excesses and the urgent need for policies to restore national cohesion and sovereignty.Matt Goodwin is an academic, bestseller writer and speaker known for his work on political volatility, risk, populism, British politics, Europe, elections and Brexit. He is Professor of Politics at Rutherford College, University of Kent and has previously served as Senior Visiting Fellow at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House and Senior Fellow with the UK In a Changing Europe. In 1215, King John issued the Magna Carta, which established that even the king was subject to equal justice under the law, and in 1644, John Milton published his famous defense of free speech. That tradition is now at grave risk of being destroyed, says UK journalist and professor Matt Goodwin. He says that the arrest by six police officers of a father who complained on WhatsApp about the local school “is merely the latest symbol of a much broader assault on free speech and free expression.” And it comes at a time when the government's Sentencing Council is recommending that judges give preference to non-white criminal defendants, undermining the principle of equal justice under the law.

In this episode, I welcome back James Esses, a writer and advocate who has been at the forefront of discussions surrounding gender ideology and its impact on the therapeutic profession. We dive into James's journey, which began during his training as a therapist in the UK, where he raised concerns about the medicalization of children experiencing gender dysphoria. His advocacy led to a significant legal battle after he was expelled from his graduate program, a case that has since resulted in important settlements affirming the validity of gender-critical beliefs among therapists. We explore the implications of James's case for therapists in the UK and beyond, particularly regarding freedom of speech and the ethical responsibilities of mental health professionals. We discuss the troubling trend of therapists prioritizing identity politics over individual client needs, and how this shift has affected the quality of care. Additionally, we examine the concept of "lived experience" and its potential dangers when it comes to guiding treatment decisions, especially for vulnerable populations like adolescents.Throughout our conversation, we aim to uncover the challenges faced by therapists today, the impact of social media on mental health, and the importance of maintaining ethical standards in therapy. Join us as we navigate these complex issues and consider what the future holds for the counseling profession.James Esses is a writer, commentator and advocate, specializing in the impact of ideology on society. He has a particular interest in the topic of gender ideology from the perspective of safeguarding children from irreversible medicalisation. He founded the Declaration for Biological Reality, calling for significant change to public policy in this space. James brought high-profile legal action against the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), and his case resulted in a significant statement expressly protecting therapists with gender critical beliefs. He frequently appears on television, including on GB News and TalkTV, and writes for a number of publications, including the Mail, Telegraph, Spectator, Spiked and Critic. He also writes a Substack alongside Matt Goodwin. James was previously a Criminal Barrister and spent many years specializing in crime and criminal justice in the public sector, including tackling child sexual abuse and exploitation.James will soon be launching Just Therapy. What are the key factors driving the rise of populism in response to mass migration and other cultural and political issues in the UK and across Western democracies? Heritage Foundation President Dr. Kevin Roberts sits down with Dr. Matt Goodwin, a leading voice in the fight against the political and cultural upheavals threatening the very foundation of the UK and US. Dr. Goodwin, Senior Advisor at the Legatum Institute and Honorary Professor of Politics at the University of Kent, lays out the stark realities facing conservatives today—on both sides of the Atlantic. With the rise of populism, the betrayal of conservative values by the political elite, and the relentless advance of woke ideology, Dr. Roberts and Dr. Goodwin confront the critical challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. They explore how conservatives must forge a bold, united front to defend our principles and restore power to the working class. About Dr. Matt Goodwin: Matt Goodwin is a professor of political science, a writer, pollster, and political advisor to corporations and other bodies. He works where the worlds of research, politics, and policy collide —talking with politicians, journalists, and academics while crunching his own data and running his own opinion polls and focus groups. Matt has advised countless governments, companies, and leaders around the globe, including one president, three Prime Ministers, leaders of the opposition, dozens of politicians, and more than a few CEOs from the world's largest companies. He's the author of multiple award-winning, bestselling books including the Sunday Times bestseller Values, Voice, and Virtue, which explains how and why the new elite lost touch, and the Sunday Times bestseller National Populism: The Revolt Against Liberal Democracy, which has been translated into multiple languages. He's also the author of the definitive book on the Brexit vote, Brexit: Why Britain Voted to Leave the European Union, and the Political Book of the Year, Revolt on the Right, which successfully forecast the rise of populism and Brexit in Britain. Matt served for a decade as Associate and Senior Fellow at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House, a Senior Fellow at the Legatum Institute, an official advisor to the UK Education Committee, a Senior Fellow at Policy Exchange, and as one of the UK government's Social Mobility Commissioners He has also been seconded to a government department, working alongside national policy makers.

The Shannon Joy Show

Do NOT fear the riots - fear the government RESPONSE to the riots.Brace for impact because what we have seen emerge from the rioting, protests and counter protests in the United Kingdom IS COMING to America - we need to organize & prepare for a full scale assault on our our 1st Amendment rights including speech and assembly. Today we feature very important pieces by Jeffrey Tucker, Jessica Rose and Matt Goodwin.‘Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.' ~ Constitution of The United StatesThe Constitution is pretty clear on the right of the people to express FREE speech with no limitations. However, we have seen these rights eroded over time and utterly obliterated under the fascist Lockdowns of 2020 with the expanded use of presidential & gubernatorial emergency declarations and executive orders. Sadly, COVID atrocities and a reckoning are off the table for discussion in the upcoming election due to the nomination of Donald Trump. Because both parties are complicit - both parties agree to cover it up. This is VERY dangerous for We The People. So now … the tinder box is being prepared and mixing a financial crisis, an immigration crisis and a contested election in a bitterly divided nation has the potential to give the deep state every excuse they need to usher in sweeping speech restrictions unlike ANYTHING we have witnessed.Show Resources:Here comes the free speech CRACKDOWN --which we must RESISThttps://www.mattgoodwin.org/p/here-comes-the-free-speech-crackdownIntentions of the Non-Elites: Round Two - Jessica Rose, Brownstone Institutehttps://brownstone.org/articles/intentions-of-the-non-elites-round-two/The Post Ideological Age - Jeffrey Tuckerhttps://brownstone.org/articles/the-post-ideological-age/Please Support Our Sponsors:Check out Patriot Mobile TODAY! In this interview, John speaks with British political scientist, Matthew Goodwin. Matthew recounts the emergence of a new class of elites and the ways in which they have diverged from the more traditional British ruling class, and more importantly, from the general public. They are distinguished by their elite education, lack of real-world experience, and a tendency to refuse engagement with the cultural issues that matter to the everyman. This phenomenon, Goodwin argues, is global and causing both sides of political establishment to drift further from their constituents. Matt Goodwin is an academic, bestselling author, pollster, and speaker known for his research on: politics, populism, elections, voting, public opinion, Brexit, Europe, academic freedom and more. He is Professor of Politics at Rutherford College, University of Kent, recently served as Senior Visiting Fellow at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, at Chatham House, Senior Fellow with the UK In a Changing Europe, Senior Fellow at the Legatum Institute, and Senior Advisor to the UK Education Committee. Nothing better epitomizes the gulf that now exists between the Conservative and Labour elite and their voters than immigration. So argues Prof. Matt Goodwin in this episode of Deprogrammed. He points out that the Conservative establishment have failed to understand that immigration is the second most important issue for Conservative voters, many of whom now find themselves politically homeless. The same applies to many Labour voters. Whilst there are smaller parties that have stronger immigration policies (Reform, Reclaim & SDP) these are not cutting through with the general public. As a result there is a huge gap in the market for a powerful new insurgent party to emerge - much as UKIP did. The Conservative Party meanwhile is failing to do the one thing that has ensured its survival through the centuries: re-invent itself. The current Conservative Party is not a serious party, Prof. Goodwin contends. It has no intellectual gravitas, its leaders and low-grade MPs are a pale imitation of the giants that once dominated the party and it is simply too out of touch with the needs and demands of its voter base. --------------- SUBSCRIBE: If you are enjoying the show, please subscribe to our channel on YouTube (click the Subscribe Button underneath the video and then Click on the Bell icon next to it to make sure you Receive All Notifications) AUDIO: If you prefer Audio you can subscribe on iTunes or Soundcloud. On power, values and class.   [Patreon Exclusive]   British professor Matt Goodwin joins us to talk about his recent new book Values, Voice and Virtue: The New British Politics published earlier this year with Penguin. Matt has argued that a new elite has come to dominate public life, leading institutions and the cultural industries in Britain and across the wider Western world, and that they are fixated with issues that divide them from the larger public – to whom they are bitter and hostile.   We talk about elites, old and new, as well as ideas about elites stemming back to Daniel Bell and Christopher Lasch, and how these elites are shaping the future of politics.   Matt also gives us a breakdown of the most recent local elections from the UK, what has happened with the Scottish National Party since the resignation of Nicola Sturgeon, why Keir Starmer's Labour party will likely win the next election, and why the Tories are - contrary to their ruthless reputation - failing to adapt to the new political landscape.   Readings: National Swing Man, the British electorate's new-old tribe, Bagehot, The Economist A decade of SNP one-party rule left Scotland in a state, Matthew Goodwin, The Times Sunak's Tories have lost the Red Wall – and are destined for oblivion, Matthew Goodwin, The Telegraph The New Elite is in complete denial, Matthew Goodwin, spiked
