In this message, Pastor Jake unpacks Acts 19:1–10 to show how the early church multiplied through ordinary disciples clothed with extraordinary power. Beginning with Paul's encounter with the “about twelve” in Ephesus, we see the clear biblical distinction between repentance, water baptism, and Spirit-empowerment for mission (Acts 18:24–28; Acts 19:1–7; Luke 3:16).Drawing on Luke–Acts, Pastor Jake explains how Scripture contrasts John's baptism of repentance with Jesus' baptism in the Holy Spirit (Luke 3:15–17; Acts 1:4–8; Acts 2:1–4, 38–39). He highlights how Luke consistently describes the Spirit's work as being “filled,” “receiving,” “poured out,” and “coming upon” (Acts 2:4; 4:8, 31; 8:14–17; 10:44–48; 19:6), emphasizing that this is an ongoing, available gift—not a one-time religious formality. This sermon calls listeners to:• Move from being mere beneficiaries of the gospel to empowered agents of the gospel (Acts 8:4; 11:19–21; Romans 10:14–15).• Pray prophetic promises into fulfillment, like Daniel did with Jeremiah's word (Daniel 9:1–3; Jeremiah 29:10–14; 1 Timothy 1:18–19).• Renounce divided allegiances and rival spiritual powers—crystals, tarot, horoscopes, new age practices, and manipulative anger—as modern forms of sorcery (Acts 19:18–20; Ephesians 4:26–27; 1 Corinthians 10:20–21; Galatians 5:19–21).• Seek fresh fillings of the Holy Spirit amid opposition, as in Acts 4:23–31, recognizing that God empowers soldiers, not spectators (Ephesians 6:10–18; 2 Timothy 2:3–4).Through the story of Ephesus becoming a missional hub—so that “all who lived in the province of Asia heard the word of the Lord” (Acts 19:10; cf. Colossians 1:6–8; Revelation 2–3)—Pastor Jake casts vision for churches today as apostolic centers in cities and regions, multiplying campuses and works by the Spirit's power, not human ambition (Zechariah 4:6; Acts 13:1–3).If you hunger for more than comfortable Christianity and long to see bold proclamation, spiritual gifts, repentance, and city-shaping impact, this message will call you to the altar of availability, to be clothed with power from on high (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:8).
Pastor Robert Tisdale preaches at Tampa Life Church from John 9, launching deeper into his “MUD” series and contrasting how Jesus and the disciples viewed a man blind from birth: others saw a problem and looked for blame, but Jesus saw potential and God's glory. He warns that diagnoses and labels can help explain pain but become dangerous when they define identity, limit imagination, and turn into a destination; he urges the church to seek deliverance as intensely as diagnosis. He cites Hebrews 11:6 on faith and references the nocebo effect to show how labels shape outcomes, calls people to renounce negative self-talk and self-blame, prays for healing and freedom, and points to Jesus' command after making mud—go wash—even when the touch feels incomplete and confusing.00:00 Welcome and Baptisms00:19 Series Recap MUD02:11 John 9 Setup03:29 Labels vs Deliverance08:04 Faith to Be Whole08:59 Testimonies and Response12:23 Prayer and Breakthrough15:42 Hebrews 11 Explained18:21 Nocebo and Identity21:02 Renounce the Labels25:18 Stop Self Blame Loops31:30 Go Wash and Obey

As we near the end of our journey through Exodus, we arrive at a heartbreaking chapter: the Golden Calf. In Exodus 32, we see the Israelites—freshly rescued from 400 years of slavery—abandoning their vows to God. They break the covenant mere days after making it. But before we judge them too harshly, we must recognize that we, too, are prone to wander. As John Calvin noted, the human heart is a "perpetual factory of idols." This sermon explores why we create idols, what they cost us, and how we can find freedom through the Greater Moses, Jesus Christ.Key Points1. The Context of the Crime The sin of the Golden Calf wasn't just about breaking a rule; it was spiritual adultery. The Israelites had just entered into a marriage covenant with Yahweh (Exodus 20), promising to have no other gods. Yet, while on their "honeymoon," they turn to an Egyptian idol. Taking something created and placing it in the position of the Creator always leads to destruction.2. Why Do We Make Idols? We want something NOW: Moses was delayed on the mountain, and the people grew impatient. Delay either deepens our faith or detours it. Often, when we feel God isn't moving fast enough, we turn to idols for immediate relief. We want something we can HOLD: Yahweh is invisible; the gods of Egypt were tangible. We crave physical things to put our trust in.We want a Genie, not a God: An idol like a golden calf cannot speak, correct, or demand holiness. The Israelites wanted a god they could control so they could indulge in whatever behavior they pleased without conviction.3. The Cost of Idolatry Idols demand sacrifice. They over-promise and under-deliver. While following Jesus requires sacrifice, He promises life and rest. Idols only demand more of you. Furthermore, you become like what you behold. Just as the golden calf was rigid and stiff-necked, God calls the Israelites stiff-necked. Whatever you worship will shape your character.4. The Greater Moses When God threatens to destroy the Israelites, Moses steps in as a mediator. He even asks God to blot his name out of the book to save the people. God says no to Moses, but centuries later, He says yes to Jesus. Jesus is the Greater Moses who took our sins upon Himself, granting us positional holiness before God so we can pursue progressive holiness in our lives.ConclusionEvery person is wired for worship; the question is not if you will worship, but what. Idols are sneaky, often masquerading as good things (family, politics, comfort) that we have made ultimate things. When we bring our idols into the presence of God, they will eventually shatter. God is a gracious Father who welcomes us back every time we choose to cast our idols down.Calls to ActionRecognize Your Idols: Look closely at what you crave (comfort, control, power, approval) and identify what has taken the center seat in your life.Repent and Confess: Do not justify or minimize your idolatry. Call it sin, confess it aloud, and ask Jesus to cover it.Renounce and Replace: You cannot just remove an idol; you must replace it with the true God. Bow your knee and consciously return the throne of your life to Jesus. Support the show*Summaries and transcripts are generated using AI. Please notify us if you find any errors.

In this powerful teaching, Dr. Ghia Kelly challenges believers to move beyond "mouth worship" and into total devotion. Drawing from the book of Ezekiel, she explains that God is not looking for perfection, but He is demanding exclusivity. If you have felt stuck in your spiritual walk or find yourself constantly seeking signs rather than hearing God's voice, it may be time for a spiritual "medical procedure" to remove the idols you have internalized. -- Dr. Ghia Kelly defines the "heart" (Hebrew: lebab) as the seat of your appetites, emotions, and conscience, representing the "real you" that God wants to occupy. -- Idolatry is not just bowing to statues; it is any excessive devotion to things like image, ambition, people-pleasing, or digital distractions that threaten God's position. -- There are four primary types of idols: physical (money/objects), spiritual (legalism/seeking signs), emotional (soul ties/addictions), and mental (prideful mindsets/worry). -- True repentance requires a change of mind and heart, but renunciation is the formal act of cutting ties and forsaking the things that previously bound you. -- God is a "jealous God" not out of insecurity, but because He knows that any divided loyalty will eventually lead to neglect and spiritual adultery. In this episode of More Than The Bag, we confront a truth many don't realize they're living in—spiritual coldness caused by idolatry.Idolatry isn't always obvious. It's anything that takes God's rightful place in your heart—money, relationships, influence, status, or even your own desires. When these things rise above God, your heart becomes divided… and over time, you grow spiritually cold. This message is a call to examine your heart, break agreement with anything competing with God, and return to full alignment with Him.In this episode, we discuss:• What idolatry really looks like today• How it replaces God in your heart• The signs of spiritual coldness• How to tear down idols and restore God to His rightful placeGod is calling His people higher. This is not about condemnation—it's about transformation.Stay Anchored ⚓️
What happens when you get out of Egypt, but Egypt hasn't gotten out of you? Pastor Bo opens this week’s message in John 11 with the resurrection of Lazarus — raised from the dead, but still wrapped in grave clothes — as a vivid picture of what it looks like to be saved but spiritually stuck. Drawing from Romans 12:2 and the Israelites' wild detour into idol worship just days after witnessing the Red Sea split open, Pastor Bo delivers a funny, fiery, and deeply practical message on why real transformation requires more than a conversion moment. It takes a renewing of the mind — and a decision to stop letting the world do the brainwashing for you.(00:00) From Grave Clothes to Freedom(04:13) God Wants More Than Partial Freedom(09:10) Israel Delivered but Still Thinking Like Egypt(15:41) Holy Brainwashing and Rejecting Worldly Influence(21:26) Learning to Renounce and Resist the Enemy(29:45) Jesus’ Model for Rebuking the Enemy(40:35) Thoughts, Strongholds, and Casting Down Lies(47:36) Practical Ways to Renew Your Mind(54:26) Praise and Worship as Spiritual Warfarehttps://citylightnyc.com/

March 9, 2026 Hello and Happy Day! This is Dr. MaryAnn Diorio, Novelist and Life Coach, welcoming you to another episode of Winning with the Word. Today is Monday, March 9, 2026, and this is episode #6 in Series 2026. This episode is titled, “How to Be Free of Anxiety.” Before we get into our message, let me share a resource that will give you practical tools for getting free of anxiety once and for all. It’s my life-changing book titled Breaking the Mind Barrier, and it is Book 2 in my series titled The Winner’s Library. Breaking the Mind Barrier is available in both print and ebook formats at the links below or in the show notes. BREAKING THE MIND BARRIER (Print)BREAKING THE MIND BARRIER (eBook) And now let’s dive right into this week’s message: How to Be Free of Anxiety. Anxiety has reached epidemic proportions in the United States and, I would dare say, pandemic proportions throughout the world. People everywhere are complaining of feeling constant anxiety about their finances, their health, their families, their jobs, and their safety in this increasingly dangerous world. Many admit a strong undercurrent of anxiety continually present in their lives but don’t know what to do about it. If this describes you, then you are in the right place at the right time. Let’s take a look at anxiety: what it is, how it enters our lives, and what to do to get rid of it. WHAT IS ANXIETY? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, anxiety is defined as “apprehensive uneasiness or nervousness usually over an impending or anticipated misfortune.” Medically, Webster defines anxiety as “an abnormal and overwhelming sense of apprehension and fear often marked by physical signs (such as tension, sweating, and increased pulse rate), by doubt concerning the reality and nature of the threat, and by self-doubt about one’s capacity to cope with it.” Sadly, many people today fit these descriptions. Perhaps you are one of them. If so, pay close attention because, by the power of God, you can be free of anxiety once and for all. HOW ANXIETY ENTERS OUR LIVES How do we become anxious? Anxiety has its ultimate roots in the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. When sin entered the world, anxiety and fear entered with it. As descendants of Adam and Eve, we are born inheriting their sin nature. Just as parents give to their children their physical genetic makeup, so did Adam and Eve give the entire human race their spiritual genetic makeup. Hence, as Scripture says in Romans 3: 23, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” And all of us, therefore, experience the effects of sin. In an individual’s life, anxiety enters through fearful experiences, like childhood trauma, death of a loved one, especially a parent, sexual abuse, and verbal abuse. Anxiety enters from stressful family situations over an extended period of time. Anxiety can be triggered by adverse health conditions, adverse financial issues, or adverse relationship challenges. Regardless of the cause, anxiety wreaks havoc in a person’s life. If not confronted, it can lead to serious forms of physical illness—like digestive and cardiac disorders—and mental illness—like agoraphobia, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, and other phobias. Anxiety is closely linked to fear. In fact, they have the same root. According to the Bible, that root is a demonic spirit called “the spirit of fear.” In 2 Timothy 1: 7, the Bible tells us that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Fear does not come from God. It comes from Satan. And fear is always based on a lie because Satan is the “father of lies” (John 8: 44). Later, we will take a look at some of the lies that cause anxiety in our lives. But now, I want to explore the natural fear response in humans in the face of danger. God created man with a natural response to danger. This is normal and alerts us to protect ourselves when necessary. It is called the brain’s natural fear response. For example, we don’t cross the street when the a car is fast approaching. We wait until it passes or until the light turns green. Why? Because we have a built-in knowing that being hit by a car could kill us or seriously injure us. This is a healthful type of fear and is prompted by wisdom. But when the brain’s normal response becomes overly active, anxiety sets in. Anxiety has been called “an over-activity of the brain’s fear response.” LIES THAT CAUSE ANXIETY Anxiety is based on a lie. Discovering what those lies are in your own life is key to overcoming anxiety. Lies feed anxiety, especially lies relating to danger. For example, lies that deceive the brain into perceiving danger cause anxiety. Lies such as “bad things are going to happen to you,” or “you can’t handle this.” Believing these lies creates tremendous stress. Notice I said, BELIEVING the lies creates stress. It is not the lie that causes the stress. It is believing the lie that causes stress. Likewise, lies relating to your significance and worth can create anxiety. When we doubt that we are loved, we doubt that we are cared for and protected. When we doubt that we are cared for and protected, we grow anxious. Deep down, all of us not only want but need to know that someone loves us and cares about what happens to us. Knowing the negative effects of lies on our well-being emphasizes how important it is for us to believe the truth in order to be free of anxiety. What are some lies that cause anxiety? Here are a few: 1__There is no God. 2__God doesn’t care about me. 3__No one loves me. 4__I’m not good enough. 5__I’ll never amount to anything. 6__Something terrible is going to happen to me. 7__I am alone in the world. 8__I’m the only one who feels this way. 9__I can handle things myself. 10__Unless I do it perfectly, I won’t succeed. 11__Conflict is dangerous. 12__If I’m not anxious, I’m not being responsible. HOW TO GET RID OF ANXIETY So, how do we get rid of anxiety? While the world offers many ways to be free of anxiety—all of which give only temporary relief—I am going to share with you Biblical principles for getting rid of anxiety—principles that I have applied effectively in my own life to get rid of anxiety. I grew up in a fear-filled environment. Anxiety was the air I breathed and what I thought was normal. Yet, my entire perspective on anxiety changed when I had a personal encounter with Jesus Christ. In John 14: 6, Jesus defines Himself as the Truth. In John 8: 32, the Bible says that the truth sets us free. Through Jesus, I learned the truth, and the truth set me free from anxiety. What is the truth? The truth is what God says it is in the Bible. Nothing more. Nothing less. Here are Bible verses that expose and refute the lies that I mentioned earlier in this podcast. I will repeat the lie first and then replace it with the truth: THE LIE: God doesn’t care about me.THE TRUTH: John 3: 16 – God says He loves you and cares about you, so much so that He paid the price for your sin so that you could spend forever with Him. THE LIE: I’ll never amount to anything.THE TRUTH: Jeremiah 29: 11 – God says that his plans for you are for good and not for evil, to give you a future filled with hope. THE LIE: I’m not good enough.THE TRUTH: Romans 5: 17 – God says that Jesus has made you good enough through His death and resurrection, good enough to qualify you to go to Heaven. And it is by His Blood alone and His grace alone that we become good enough. THE LIE: I’m alone in the world.THE TRUTH: Hebrews 13: 5 – There God says that you will never be alone because He will never leave you nor forsake you. THE LIE: I’m the only one who feels this way.THE TRUTH: 1 Corinthians 10: 13 – The Bible says that other people go through situations similar to yours. You are not the only one going through what you’re going through. THE LIE: I can handle things myself.THE TRUTH: John 15: 5 – God says that without Him you can do nothing. Have you noticed the pattern here for getting free of anxiety? It is a three-step pattern: Step 1) Identify the lie.Step 2) Renounce the lie.Step 3) Replace the lie with the truth. But in order to replace the lie with the truth, you must know the truth. Jesus Christ is the Truth. He said so in John 14: 6 when He said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” My friend, anxiety does not have to be a part of your life if you have Jesus Christ in your life. If you have Truth in your life. God has freed you from anxiety and fear. He did so when He died on the Cross and rose from the dead for you. But freedom from anxiety and fear is a gift available only through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If you don’t have that personal relationship, you will never experience true freedom from anxiety. But if you do establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you can be free of every evil thing. All it takes is faith in Him. If you have been separated from Jesus Christ but want to start a relationship with Him now, let me introduce you to Him. Pray this simple prayer with me: Lord Jesus, I want to establish a relationship with You. I want to get to know you so that I can experience the freedom from anxiety and from every evil thing that You died and rose from the dead to give me. I receive You now as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for saving me. Thank you for taking the punishment for my sin. Make me like You. In Your Name I pray. Amen. If you could write a “top 10” list of rules for governing human behavior, what would you include? Many have offered their suggestions: Ted Turner's list included a pledge of allegiance to the United Nations and a limit of 2 children per couple, to ration the planet's resources. George Carlin reduced his list to just three commandments: “Thou shalt always be honest and faithful; Thou shalt try really hard not to kill anyone; and Thou shalt keep thy religion to thyself”. Atheist apologist Christopher Hitchens' list culminated in the command to “Renounce any god”! But try as we may to reshape morality, to “be a law unto ourselves”, there is only one Law and one Lawgiver: the Lord God. And He has not left us in the dark about how we ought to live. In this sermon, we examine God's “Top Ten” list together from Deuteronomy 5:1-21.

AUDIO TRANSCRIPT Well, good morning.Wherever you are today, welcome. My name is Justin.I'm one of the elders here at Harvest. And as we get started, I would just like to ask that you would pray for me to faithfully and clearly communicate God's word, and I will pray for you to have hearts to receive it.Amen.Well, today we're going to be talking about dealing with disputes, disagreements, beef, as the kids say.Did the kids still say beef, Pastor Jeff?Okay, confirmed.I too was young once, but as a college student, one thing my roommates and I never had beef over was where to order pizza.Listen, four guys in an apartment, that's a big decision. But we found our place, Piazza's Pizza, home to the largest pizza that I've ever seen, the big Piazza. It was the best price to food ratio in the city. The box was so big, it didn't even fit through the door. You had to tilt it just to get it inside. It would feed all of us for a whole weekend. And actually one of those weekends, a few of my friends from home came up to visit. And so, of course, we wanted to treat them to a big Piazza. But there was a dispute. My roommates and I tried to explain to them how enormous this pizza was.But my friends kept insisting, "Look, we need to order two."And we're like, "Guys, you haven't seen this pizza."And they're like, "Guys, you don't know how hungry we are. We need at least two."Okay? So eventually we gave up and we ordered two big Piazza's.And, you know, after dinner, I couldn't believe it, but we actually finished half of one.And that's when the real dispute started.Because we tried to tell them we just needed one.But the problem is, according to them, we didn't eat our share.Because they insisted we needed two.So then wild claims started flying around both sides about how many slices each side ate.And this morning, I'd actually like to present you with some evidenceso you can draw your own conclusions.Exhibit A, this is the big Piazza. And even that, I tell you, the photo doesn't do it justice. But I added some analysis to this photo because one member of the oppositionhas repeatedly stated that he alone consumed 25 slices.Exhibit B, this is his claim. And I'm telling you, I was there that night. If he ate that much pizza in one sitting,we were going to spend the night in Rochester General Hospital.Okay?Church.It was crazy. Now, we are close to the 20th anniversary of that meal. And the battle is still raging on.As far as I'm aware, this is the longest-running dispute I've ever been a part of.Debating it step-by-step, recounting what happened. And of course, laughter.Because this dispute, though still being disputed,it didn't threaten our friendships. It's a silly dispute, but I share it with you because the way that we handle disputes, that often depends on our relationship to the other side, true or false. When we are in a dispute, our relationship to the personor our relationship to the situation, that determines our response.Best friends can accuse each other of pizza malpractice for decades and be totally fine. But for real disputes, think about it.Which ones are the hardest to resolve? The ones within a family,or with a close friend, or someone you looked up to.It's far more difficult to deal with offense from someone that you know deeplythan from someone that you don't know at all.An argument that escalates, a disagreement grows into something much more, most of us have been there. And that can even happen here, within the church family. How do we deal with those disputes?Well, if you have your Bibles, you can open them to 1 Corinthians chapter 6,where we're going to dig into that.We deal with disputes because we're going after a church unified and purified, amen. And last week, Pastor Jeff taught how to get purified when there's sin in the church, when someone claims Christ yet is living in unrepentant sin,and they refuse help, they want their sin to be accepted. What do you do with that person? The Bible says, "Let him who has done this be removed from among you."You might think, "Harsh, that doesn't sound like a thing a church should do."Well, if you missed it, read 1 Corinthians chapter 5 and listen to the sermon online. You'll find out that's what the church must do.Now, this week, we read Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, discussing disputes within the church. And just like arguments about pizza,we have to remember the relationships involved. So, on your outline today,in a church dispute, remember your relationship.Number one, to other believers, we reconcile. So, 1 Corinthians 6, are you there?Let's read the first verse. It says, "When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints?"So, Paul is calling out the Corinthians for dragging their disputes out into the court system. He says, "Church, why are you going before unrighteous corrupt courts for this?"But please understand in this passage,Paul is talking about civil cases, not criminal cases. This is not about someone breaking the law and being charged with a crime, okay? This is about a private dispute between two parties, and they just can't figure it out.So, they end up taking each other to court over something trivial. Now, we see trivial lawsuits today, don't we?Have you ever seen those courtroom shows where they give you the rundown upfront? He's here suing for a $67 cell phone bill. You hired a lawyer and got on a plane to Los Angeles over $67.You're going to take someone to court over that.Same idea. You'll see the trivial part as we pick up in verse 2.It says, "Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases?Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more than matters pertaining to this life? So, if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church?I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers? We'll pause there for a moment.Paul is saying we should be able to resolve these disputes internally. He's saying we are called to judge. If that sounds familiar, we saw it in 1 Corinthians 5,where verse 12 says, "For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church who you are to judge?"Not judging motives, because we can't see the heart, but we are required to judge actions. We judge the fruit. Now, what does Paul mean with this "saints" meaning believers? What does he mean with this "judging the world and angels" business?Well, he's referring to the concept of the children of God reigning with Jesus Christ in his victory.True.But we're not even going to get into all that, because Paul is using it for irony.Like, "Oh, you who will judge the world, you who will judge angels, why are you taking all your disputes to small claims court?"That's what they were doing. And actually, it was even worse than that.Because history tells us that in Paul's day, civil courts were completely corrupt. You couldn't even bring a case against someone who had a higher social standing than you.And when a case did make it to the courts, judges and juries would expect a kickbackfor a verdict in your favor, either a payment or something to help them with their standing. So the church in Corinth was not only suing each other, they were using the legal system to abuse or shake down fellow Christians of lower status. It's childish. And parents know you train young children to resolve their disputes themselves, but it takes a lot of training.Use your words.Talk it out.How would you feel if she said that to you?But until they mature, what's most often the outcome?Running to mom or dad to make a ruling. And sure, parents do need to step in sometimes, but more often than not, it's a dispute that could have been resolvedwith a conversation and some humility. But they're kids. They don't have the required patience or wisdom just yet.Paul is saying the church should be mature enough to use wisdom to resolve things internallyinstead of using lawsuits. But even if we avoid the courthouse, we can still struggle with disputes as a church. If a church member offends you intentionally or unintentionally, you don't sue them, but how do you react?Do you let it go?Or if it's just too much to let it go, do you talk to them about it?Or do you just avoid them?Or how many churches have gone through gigantic disputes over decisions like the carpet coloror chairs versus pews or the volume level during worship? Is stuff like that worth disunity with your brothers and sisters? Now, 1 Corinthians 6 doesn't outline practical steps that we should follow instead, but we know them from other places in Scripture.Matthew 18, for example, tells us to go first to the person directly, and if they don't listen, bring some others. And if they still don't listen, bring it before the church. That's the general path things should run,and some situations point us to other Scripture too.But the charge in these verses is to judge wisely. But these Matthew 18 conversations or conversations going to someone for counsel, they cannot be about gossip. That's just as destructive as a lawsuit. These conversations must be done with one goal in mind, reconciliation. As believers, we ask for forgiveness and forgive each other in order to be reconciled. That's who we are. That's what God's family does.By His grace, some of us grew up in God-fearing homes that demonstrated that's how a family works. But many of us either grew up in or we've seen family situations where that's not the case, where there is no repentance, no forgiveness, no reconciliation. Some might think, "Yeah, I've seen bitterness and I've seen grudges in a family, but reconciliation, forgiving one another, I've never seen a family like that."And that's why as a church, we must show the world that in Christ we are different. We have to show them what God's family is like, which is why, number two on your outline,in a church dispute, remember your relationship, number two, to the world we represent. So as believers, what does our relationship to the world have to do with our disputes?Well, rewind to the end of verse five.It says, "Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, but brother goes to law against brother?" And that before unbelievers? Before unbelievers. That's similar to what we saw back in verse one, before the unrighteous. We talked about the Corinthians lacking godly wisdom, but there's another problem.Taking all these disputes out into the world, what does that do to our witness? If the city of Corinth always saw the church in scandal or suing each other, what did that communicate to them about the gospel message? We have to remember that part of our relationship to the world is that Jesus called us to represent him to the world.Represent Jesus to the world. Now, listen, I'm not saying we should be concerned about image in the sense that we are marketing church, and reality is another thing. No, our concern is authentically following Jesus. We want people to see what it looks like to be transformed by Christ and living in a Christ-centered community. It's not about projecting some image, it's about our identity. Our witness is being like Jesus and telling people about him.So, infighting, legal battles, manipulation, that's what everybody else does.God's people are called to be different. If we act like the world, we've already lost.Just like it says in verse 7, it says, "To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you."Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? But you yourselves wrong and defraud, even your own brothers. Now, again, let me emphasize that we are not talking about criminal cases. But Paul is saying it would be better to just lose your money in the dispute than sue your church brother over these petty issues.Or again, maybe you're not actually going to court, but you still might need to suffer wrong. What do I mean?Have you ever been in a dispute where maybe you're 10% wrong and the other person is 90% wrong?Sometimes we still want to justify ourselves and bang the table about how less wrong we were. What about humbling yourself? What about taking the hit and saying, "You know, you're right. I was wrong. Will you please forgive me?"Our natural reaction is, "Why should I humble myself when they're wrong too?"Because of who we represent.Jesus is our example of humility, and we are that example to those around us.So to claim Christ and act like Paul describes here is a failure in our job as representatives. And you know, I talked a little bit about pizza earlier, but do you know what else I like?Frozen bananas.Well, I should be specific. Chocolate covered frozen bananas. Delicious. One time I went into an ice cream shop where I had gotten one before, but I didn't see any in the case in the front. So I thought, "Oh, they might have some in the back in the freezer."So I asked the woman working, "Do you have any frozen bananas?"And my friends who were there still quote her answer to me because she said, "Does it look like we have any frozen bananas?"Okay. I said, "Thank you." And I walked out without any dessert. Now, do you think the owner of the ice cream shop felt like she represented the store well that day?No. Just like employees represent their workplace as a body of believers, we represent Christ. If you claim Christ, you are his representative, period. In a world where everyone's flying off the handle at every disagreement, screaming or storming out of every issue, imagine the witness of a church that works through things together in love, using the highest authority of our life, God's word, to untangle the issue. No, it's not always easy. But the world will look and say, "What's going on over there? I want to be a part of that."But we have to step back and review for a moment because I don't want anyone to walk away with the wrong idea.So far, we've talked about resolving disputes in-house, not dragging disagreements to the court, and how we are presenting ourselves to the world. Those concepts could be sinfully twisted into an excuse to cover up sin. Now, we don't need to review all the sickening things that have been covered up by churches all over the world.Sinful men have tried to hide their sin, tried to hide abuse by saying things like, "Let's keep this in-house."No, they are wrong. This passage is not about covering things up or ignoring sin. Abuse in court or otherwise is sin.Covering up sin is sin. A forced reconciliation is a false reconciliation.Ignoring sin for the sake of the church's witness is a false witness. If someone's sinful act is a criminal act, then the correct response is to hand them over to the authorities. And that's God's idea, not mine. See Romans 13.I just want to be crystal clear.Paul, just like in chapter 5, is calling for the opposite of a cover up.He's calling us to recognize and remove flagrant, unrepentant sin.And that distinction is important because we all sin. It's not like, "Oh, I was coveting my friend's car yesterday."And last week, I had a lustful thought.Guess I have to leave Harvest Bible Chapel. No, of course all of us struggle with sin, but we commit that as a family,we're here to walk with each other in becoming purified by our Lord.We need each other's support and encouragement as each one of us turns away from our sin daily to become more like Jesus Christ. In fact, in him, we must renounce any relationship that we have to sin.Point number three on your outline today. In a church dispute, remember your relationship number three to sin.We renounce.Let's pick up in verse nine.It says, "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?Do not be deceived.Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God."Now, reading this after the previous section can seem jarring.Paul is talking about disputes, the courts, and then he drops into this list of sins for which someone will not enter heaven. Now, understand that Paul is talking about a lifestyle of unrepentant, continual sin.Committing one of these sins or any sin in isolationdoes not automatically banish a person from heavenif that person repents of their sin and believes in the work of Jesus for their forgiveness. But why does the connection here to verses one to eight?Well, two things.First, verse one asked if believers dare take their case before the unrighteous. And then here it says, "Do you not know that the unrighteouswill inherit the kingdom of God?"Sorry, the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God.Paul is saying, "Church, you should resolve your disputesinstead of bringing them before people who are living in reckless sin for them to decide."You're like, "Don't worry, I keep beef out of the legal system."Okay, well, do you bring your church disputes before unbelieving friends or family?Do you complain about the church or people in the church at work or on social media? That is bringing your case before the unrighteous for them to judge. Now, as for the second connection, recall the underhanded dealings of these civil courts.People in the church were using their influence and status to manipulate other Christians via lawsuitsto take advantage of their own brothers for their gain. That sin belongs in this list, too.See, this isn't a random list of sinfulness. This list is about not being content and reaching out of bounds to get more. And really, that goes all the way back to the first sin, doesn't it?Back in Genesis, God told Adam,"And the Lord God commanded the man saying, 'You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat,for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die.'"But Adam and Eve ultimately were not content with that. And so they reached outside the bounds that God created. That's the same root as every sin in this list.God says that sexual intimacy is between one man and one woman within the covenant of marriage. But people say, "I'm not content with that."Be it adultery, homosexuality, or any form of sexual immorality, instead of receiving God's gift as he intended, they reached outside God's design to take something else, or idolatry.God says we should worship Him and only Him.But people say, "I'm not content with that."They worship money, success, celebrity. They reach outside of what they know in their heart to worship anything but God.What about drunkards or revilers, people who abuse alcohol or verbally abuse others?God set a boundary around drunkenness and a boundary on our speech, but they say, "I'm not content with that.I will drink how I want and I'll say what I want."Or thieves, the greedy, swindlers, whatever they have, they say, "I'm not content with that.I want more and I'm willing to reach out and take it, even if it means stealing from my own family."And that's where the Corinthian church was, reaching out of bounds to take from their brothers and sisters.Paul says their sin is the same as these. And if you live a life of unrepentant, habitual sin, a life reaching out of bounds, you will not inherit the kingdom of God.So church, we have to ask ourselves, what should our relationship be to sin?Titus chapter 2 verse 11 says, "For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in the present age."We must renounce sin. That's our relationship, not embracing it, not excusing it, but rejecting it, turning away, running away. How do we do that?Well, praise the Lord, we are about to read some of the most incredible words in Scripture on that topic. Our last point today, you must remember your relationship, number four, to Jesus Christ. We are renewed.1 Corinthians chapter 6 verse 11, it says, "And such were some of you, but you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.And such were some of you."Some translations say, "And this is what some of you used to be."Paul is saying, "You used to do these things, but God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take the punishment for your sin upon Himself."He bore that sin in His death on the cross and then conquering death rose again in victory. And this verse applies to anyone who will repent and believe in Him as their Savior. Now, you might think that stuff that you used to do is too much to overcome. You're afraid Jesus knows who you were.Well, Jesus knows your whole story and He still invites you into a relationship with Him.He wants to release you from your sin and bring you true contentment. So repent and believe. As it says here, "If you believe, you were washed clean.Sin from your past, present, and future has been washed away in the name of Jesus."You were sanctified, meaning you were set apart as holy and you are being made holy.God is shaping you into what He already calls you.And you were justified, meaning the charges of sin against you have been dropped. You're innocent. That lifestyle of unrepentant sin, that's who you used to be.You are made new.In a dispute, you must remember your relationship with Jesus Christ because that relationship determines all other relationships. But some might think, "If I have that relationship with Christ and if I'm made new, why do I still sin?Why do we still have disputes and disagreements and fights?"I read one scholar put it this way.Imagine, I know this is going to be hard to believe, that you were caught in a snowstorm. It shouldn't be too hard. You're covered in snow, totally freezing, and you feel like you might not make it.But somehow, you crawl and you make it back to your house and you get inside. The room is warm.Maybe fireplace is going. You're saved. But even though you're safe standing in the warmth,it's going to take some time for the ice in your pockets to thaw out.You see the picture. You are secure in Christ, but not all of your sin has melted away yet. That won't be totally complete until we reach heaven.Until then, through our relationship with Christ, we are safe indoors being justifiedand we're thawing out being sanctified at the same time.So as we close, I hope you see how and why the church must deal with disputes in a godly way.We should be able to handle that stuff through Jesus.Next time you're in a dispute, step back and remember, this is my brother or sister in Christ. My goal is to be reconciled with them.Remember that we are representing Christ to the world. The way that we interact should reflect our Lord, showing the world that Jesus works.Remember that we've renounced sin and we lovingly help each other do that.We don't manipulate others. We don't reach out of bounds grabbing for more. That's not who we are.Because who are we?Remember that in Jesus, we are a people renewed. We don't serve sin or our selfish desires anymore.Together, unified and purified, we serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.Let's pray together.Lord God, I thank you for your word.God, I thank you for the church. And I pray God that when we face disputes, we would face them with godly wisdom and character, love and patience, God,that we may be reconciled, that we may be a light into the world around us.We pray and ask for your mercy, God, upon us now and we ask for you to guide us in these matters.Let us be a church unified and purified for your glory, Lord God.In Jesus' name, amen.Amen. On Sunday, Pastor Mike shared how he was asking a simple question: “Lord, how do I respond as a pastor to everything happening right now?” What followed was a clear word from the Lord that led him to Exodus 17—a moment where God's people were under pressure, under attack, and spiritually dry. In that passage, Moses lifted his hands toward heaven as the battle raged, and victory came when hands were lifted—not in striving, but in surrender. From that passage, Mike heard God say, “The time for striking rocks is over. The time for touching thrones has begun.” This message is an invitation to shift our posture. To stop reacting and start abiding. To respond not with outrage, but with trust. And to step into a rhythm of prayer that brings renewal, unity, and life. Below is a prayer guide you can use as you respond this week:Prayer Guide:1. Praise: Honoring God's Faithfulness and Outpouring of His SpiritHeavenly Father, we lift our hands to You in awe and gratitude. You are faithful, and Your Spirit continues to move in our lives and in our generation. We praise You for Your presence, Your provision, and Your power that sustains us.Pray for:• Thank God for His faithfulness in every season, acknowledging that nothing in heaven or earth can thwart His plans.• Praise God for the outpouring of His Spirit, awakening hearts to new hunger and deeper intimacy with Him.• Declare God's victory over every Amalek attack, trusting His authority to protect, restore, and advance His Kingdom.• Celebrate the ways God has revealed Himself in past battles, remembering His power and mercy.• Invite God's presence to fill every room, heart, and community, allowing His life to flow freely.2. Confession: Surrendering Striving, Distrust, and ConflictLord, we confess the times we have not abided in You, striving in our own strength, doubting Your provision, and wrestling with anger or contention toward others. We recognize where we have partnered with thoughts that oppose Your will and disrupt Your peace.Pray for:• Confess personal striving instead of resting in God's timing and authority.• Confess distrust, doubt, or anxiety that limits our faith and hinders intimacy with You.• Ask for forgiveness for anger, quarreling, or holding bitterness toward others.• Renounce any agreements with pride, ego, or grumbling.• Pray for healing, humility, and restored alignment with God, so we walk fully in His presence and purpose.3. Intercession: Lifted Hands for Each Other and Our Broken WorldFather, we lift our hands in intercession, covering one another's vulnerabilities, lifting the burdens of our families, communities, and the world. We declare Your Kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.Pray for:• Pray for those around you, asking God to meet their deepest needs and protect their hearts.• Pray for comfort and hope in our relationships, families, communities, and country.• Ask God to pour out His presence in communities, awakening hunger for His presence and truth.• Pray for the defeat of the Amalek spirit and every force that seeks to steal joy, kill hope, or destroy destiny.• Declare healing, restoration, and unity, trusting God's authority and power to transform brokenness into new life.

In today's episode, recorded on September 8th, 2025, Hunter invites us to journey together through the pages of Scripture—reading from Jeremiah 42-44, Psalm 48, and Revelation 13. As we see the story of the Israelites wrestling with obedience and trust, and witness John's vivid vision of beasts and the mysterious number 666, Hunter encourages us to reflect on themes of separation, exile, and the relentless love of God. We hear the struggles of God's people as they debate listening to Jeremiah's warnings, the powerful imagery from Revelation about the dangers of idolizing power, and a reminder in the Psalms that God is our steadfast fortress. Through heartfelt commentary and prayer, Hunter reminds us to reject the lie of separation from God and instead embrace the truth that Emmanuel—God with us—is ever-present. Plus, we're joined by a wonderful chorus of listeners from around the globe, sharing their greetings and reminding us that we are not walking this journey alone. So settle in, open your heart, and let's explore God's word together—encouraged that you are loved, and never alone. TODAY'S DEVOTION: We are told that the number six hundred and sixty six is the number of a man. A lot has been written about this number. Three sixes, a trinity of numbers. But it is an unholy trinity. It is man, magnified, exalted and worshiped. It is a beastly reality in a stark contrast from the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. We're told that great wisdom is required to understand what these numbers mean. And I don't pretend to have that kind of wisdom. But it seems to me that whether it's the queen of Heaven that Jeremiah is confronting or the multi-headed dragon that John describes, the results are the same. When man is deceived by Satan and by the lie of separation, we see destruction in its wake. And in Jeremiah's case, they refused to believe that God was with them, that he would rescue them and give them life. So under that lie, they separated themselves from him and his will for them. And they went to Egypt, a land of exile. And as we look back into the garden, we see that same pattern. Adam and Eve believe that God is not with them. They separate themselves from him. And in their separation, they live in exile in the garden. Over and over through time, through history, this tragic pattern is lived out. In our blindness, we refuse to see God's presence and so we separate ourselves from him, the Triune God of life. And instead we rely on the gods of our own making. And the results are the same. Satan's great strategy has never really varied – from the beginning in the garden to this very moment that John is describing here: seeds of doubt are sown. God is not present. God is not with you. God is not for you. And so, believing we are alone, that God is indifferent and uncaring, we go it alone and we devise a way of life apart from God, from the triune life of love and flourishing that is waiting for all of us. The psalmist tells us a different way in verse nine in today's reading: O God, we meditate on your unfailing love. Our God is like a fortified wall, a citadel, a beacon. That's what our God is like. And we will continue to tell it to future generations. Psalm 48:9. God is not separate from you. God is with you. That is the truth. Align your heart to his will and his purposes, his kingdom, and not your own. Renounce the lie of separation embedded in that number 666 and worship the God who is with us, Emmanuel, the God of love. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's the prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: And now let us pray. Lord God Almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day. Preserve us with your mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. Dear Lord, you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you and find you, bring the nations into your fold. Pour out your spirit on all flesh and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. And now, Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love, where there is injury, pardon, where there is doubt, faith, where there is despair, hope, where there is darkness, light, and where there is sadness, joy. O Lord, grant that I might not seek so much to be consoled as to console, to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned. It is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen. Almighty God, father of all mercies, we, your grateful children, give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving kindness to us and all you have made. We bless you for your creation, preservation and all the blessings of this life. And above all, for your immeasurable love and your redemption of the world through our Lord Jesus Christ. For the means of grace and the hope of glory. Lord, we pray, give us such awareness of your mercies that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but with our lives, by the giving up of ourselves for your service in holiness and righteousness all our days, through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom with you and the Holy Spirit be all honor and glory through all ages. Amen. And now, as our Lord has taught us, we are bold to pray. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation. In this second half of my conversation with Alexander Marino, Director of U.S. Tax Law at Moody's Tax, we get into the nitty-gritty of what it really means to exit the U.S. tax system, whether you're renouncing citizenship or handing back a long-term green card. This is one of those areas where emotion, tax policy, and real-life consequences all collide. Alex explains the U.S. exit tax (and how to avoid it), what being a “covered expatriate” actually means, and why some clients are better off paying millions in exit tax now rather than tens of millions in estate tax later. We also discuss some common myths like assuming a high-tax country means you're covered, or thinking a long-expired green card means you're off the hook. The key thing to note here is: this isn't about being dramatic. Revelation Dates: August – December, 1833 Revelation Places: Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York Section 98 – Aug 6, 1833 - Historical Background: Persecution was increasing in Missouri and Joseph was concerned for the saints, seeking help from the Lord. Joseph was 800 miles away in Kirtland and had not yet heard of the extreme violence and destruction of property, including the printing press. But the Lord knew what was happening, and revealed to the Prophet this revelation containing principles of peace, comfort and forgiveness. Recap: The Lord has heard the prayers of his people and they will be granted. Have patience. Trust in the Lord. Obey the laws of the land. Their rights are inalienable, yet when the wicked rule, the people mourn. Forsake evil and cleave to good. Renounce war and proclaim peace. The saints in Kirtland must repent. The principles of persecution and retaliation are outlined. Section 99 - Historical Background: This revelation is out of sequence and was actually given in August 1832, not 1833. The revelation was on behalf of John Murdock, one of Joseph's most faithful servants. John's wife died giving birth to twins, who were adopted by Joseph and Emma. Recap: John Murdock is called on a mission to the eastern states. He is promised power. Those who accept John accept the Lord, and those who reject John also reject the Lord. John is encouraged to continue preaching the gospel for his entire life. Section 100 – Oct 12, 1833 - Historical Background: After organizing the Kirtland Stake and getting the Kirtland temple construction organized, Joseph and Sidney went on a mission to Upper Canada. They were accompanied by a new convert named Freeman Nickerson from Perrysburg, New York, who was returning home and invited Joseph and Sidney to ride with him as they journeyed north. After arriving in Perrysburg, Joseph became deeply anxious about his family back in Kirtland and inquired of the Lord. Recap: Joseph and Sidney's families are well and are in the care of the Savior while they are on their mission. As to this mission, they are promised great success. They are told to fear not, for God will fill their mouths and they cannot be confounded. Be meek and the Holy Ghost will bear record of the truth. Sidney is called to be a spokesman for Joseph, who is to be the revelator. Meanwhile, back in Missouri, the Lord says Zion will be chastened for a season. In due time, God will raise up a people pure in heart to redeem Zion. Section 101 – Dec 16, 1833 - Historical Background: In Section 97, the Lord declares that if Zion obeyed God's commandments (including building a temple) they would prosper, otherwise they will face affliction, sword, vengeance and fire. The saints transgressed and failed by their lackluster efforts to build a temple. In July, 1833, a large Missouri mob demanded the saints cease from all religious labors in Jackson County. Three days later they destroyed the church printing press, burned the building and tarred and feathered 2 church leaders. In October and November, the mob raided branches of the church demolishing homes, and in one branch “amid the shrieks and screams of women and children, whipped and beat in a savage and brutal manner, several of the men.” A church member and two mob members were killed. The 2,500 saints in Zion were fleeing for their lives. In December, Joseph received the awful news and reached out to the Lord asking why He would allow this persecution and when He would redeem Zion. Recap: The saints were driven out of Zion because of their transgressions, and must now endure their chastening. But God will be merciful. “Be still, and know that I am God.” The righteous and pure in heart will return to redeem Zion and build the New Jerusalem. A time frame was not given. Meanwhile, gather together in stakes and live the gospel principles. Christ will appear to all and the wicked will be consumed. The millennial period will begin and Zion will be built, Satan will be bound, and all history will be revealed. Those saints driven from Zion are transgressors and need to be chastened. The Lord gives a parable of a vineyard, whose servants refused to build a tower (temple), and therefore the enemy came undetected and destroyed the vineyard. The House of Israel must continue to be gathered and the Saints must gather in stakes to be strengthened. Lands must be purchased in Zion. Those who were scattered must seek redress by the law to uphold their inalienable rights. This was the purpose of establishing the Constitution, by the hands of wise men raised up by God. If government leaders do not give heed to these laws, God will be displeased and in His fierce anger, will vex them along with the nation. The day will come that the Lord's people will hold claim to Zion and will return, build and prosper there.
Renounce the lie that you are a bad person and accept the truth that you are wonderfully made
Mike Johnson, Beau Morgan, and Ali Mac continue to recap and react to the Atlanta Braves losing to the New York Mets last night 7-3 in the third game of this four game series. Mike, Beau, and Ali also explain why the Braves shouldn't renounce Didier Fuentes for struggling versus a good Mets lineup.
Have you ever wondered why some people experience God's supernatural power while others only witness it from a distance? In this life-changing message, Pastor Marion Dalton explores the difference between seeing God's acts and truly knowing His ways — a shift that can transform your spiritual walk forever.
The culture we live in can easily shape our attitudes and values. But if we are going to be true followers of Christ, all other allegiances must be renounced, and we must become assimilated into the Kingdom of God.
From the series on Freedom: Stop Betting On Blame is a powerful, personal, and practical message from Pastor Jarod Smith, digging deep into Genesis 3 and the first moment blame ever entered the human experience. With humor, vulnerability, and biblical insight, Pastor Jarod shares a real-life story from his early marriage—and connects it to Adam's response in the garden: “The woman YOU gave me…” Instead of owning his part, Adam deflected blame to Eve—and even to God. This message explores what happens when we gamble with blame: * Why our default is to find fault upward (with God) when pain comes sideways (from others) * How blame leads to bondage, but confession leads to freedom (Proverbs 28:13) * How Jesus not only empathizes with our pain but empowers us to walk in victory * What it means to identify the real enemy—and stop letting lies shape our identity
We are surrounded by ungodliness to a far greater degree than experienced by any previous generation – at least in the western world. We can say we “renounce ungodliness”, but putting what we say into action is getting more difficult: it means we must concentrate our minds on godly thoughts at every opportunity. The 46 verses of Paul's letter to Titus is an ideal source for mental fortification; we should not just read it, but we should also meditate on it. Titus is in Crete (1 v.5) to work for the Lord. The contrast between those who really believe – and those who give the appearance of believing is a problem in Crete – the parallels with the problems that challenge us today is increasingly apparent.Paul says, “a prophet of their own said, ‘Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.' This testimony is true.” [1 v.12,13] Titus is told to “rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith … to the defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled.. They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable …” [v.15,16] Sadly, Christianity in general is sliding toward doing this! How much is this influencing us?Titus is to set the example “Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.” [2 v.7,8]This leads Paul to make the point, “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope …” [v.11-13]Our sense of urgency in waiting for our hope to be fulfilled grows ever greater – a sense the younger generation can only partly appreciate – life today is so interesting! We stress it is “the grace of God” that provides the message of salvation and meaning for our existence. Let us appreciate that grace to the full – for we cannot ‘earn' a place in God's kingdom so as to deserve it – but, writes Paul, “being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” [3 v.7] How is your “training” progressing?

Patrick Madrid gets into a question from Emily in Maine, who’s wondering if she has to pack her bags for Rome to receive a plenary indulgence during the Jubilee Year. Here's the Explanation: Patrick explains that while Rome’s Holy Doors are a major focus during the Jubilee Year, you don’t actually need to fly to the Eternal City to participate. Many dioceses around the world designate their own churches: usually cathedrals or significant shrines, with Holy Doors. So, you can check out your diocesan website to see which local church has been designated. Once you know where the doors are, you can receive the same plenary indulgence as if you were in St. Peter’s Basilica. So, What’s a Plenary Indulgence Anyway? Patrick gives a quick theology lesson: A plenary indulgence is the "complete remission of the punishment due to sins that have already been forgiven." It’s like hitting the reset button on your soul’s "penance odometer." To receive it, you need to: Be in a state of grace (go to Confession if needed!). Renounce all attachment to sin: even those sneaky past sins you might secretly still take pride or enjoyment in. Perform the prescribed act (in this case, passing through a Holy Door). Receive Communion and pray for the Pope’s intentions (like an Our Father and a Hail Mary). Patrick makes it clear that detachment from sin doesn’t mean you need to feel it emotionally. It’s an act of the will: a firm decision to reject sin out of true love for God. What About Rome? Emily mentions she’d love to go to Rome (don’t we all?), but it’s just not possible. Patrick assures her that the indulgence she gets at her local Holy Door is just as “full” as the one you’d get in Rome. There’s no "extra holy" indulgence for jetsetters: it’s the same grace whether you’re at St. Peter’s or in Portland, Maine. Final Thought: If you’re dreaming of Rome but stuck at home, don’t sweat it. Holy Doors are popping up all over the world, and the grace is universal. So, grab your diocesan map, check out your nearest Holy Door, and step into the incredible mercy God is offering you this Jubilee Year. Hey, maybe pray for a miracle trip to Rome while you’re at it. You never know what door God might open for you, literally!
