Best-selling author of "Seat of the Soul" and 36x returning guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show, Gary Zukav joins the podcast once more for an interview filled with insights around intention, the new consciounsess, and dealing with grief. After Gary's spiritual partner, Linda Francis returned to nonphysical reality in 2022, we reflect on the true meaning of death and how love is the most powerful force in the Universe. He explains that authentic power is the alignment of the personality with the soul, and that it requires choosing love over fear in all circumstances. Gary also explores the concept of immortality and the existence of a part of ourselves that is immortal. Founded in 1999, the Seat of the Soul Institute, envisions a world of Universal Humans who are beyond nation, race, sex, religion, culture, and economic circumstance; who are citizens of the Universe; and whose allegiance is to Life. Gary is a Harvard graduate with a degree in International Relations, a former US Army Special Forces (Green Beret) officer with Vietnam service, a member of the Club of Budapest, a recipient of the World Business Academy Pathfinder Award for his Contribution to the Ongoing Evolution of Knowledge and Consciousness within the Global Business Community, and the Einstein Award from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine for his Contributions to the Psychosocial Growth of Humanity. “Your brain is the organ of your personality, character and intelligence and is heavily involved in making you who you are.” Dr. Daniel Amen Watch this interview on YouTube here https://youtu.be/H8miiiqugDs On today's episode #309 with Dianne Kosto we will cover: ✔  What is neurofeedback, and how it can help someone struggling with anxiety, depression, brain fog, or mental health issues. ✔ Dianne Kosto's story "From Trauma to Triumph." What's the story of her son? What did she do to help him? Where is he TODAY? ✔ How does neurofeedback change the structure and function of the brain? ✔ Dianne's journey and when she first noticed the importance of a healthy brain, for a happy life. ✔ How to reach Dianne and her team to learn more. So if we notice something is not right with our ability to think clearly (brain fog) or our decision-making ability, or our ability to focus and concentrate, it would make sense that we begin with looking at this organ that controls everything that we are, and everything that we do. Welcome back to The Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning Podcast, where we connect the science-based evidence behind social and emotional learning (that's finally being taught in our schools today) and emotional intelligence training (used in our modern workplaces) for improved well-being, achievement, productivity and results—using what I saw as the missing link (since we weren't taught this when we were growing up in school), the application of practical neuroscience. I'm Andrea Samadi, an author, and an educator with a passion for learning and launched this podcast 5 years ago with the goal of bringing ALL the leading experts together (in one place) to uncover the most current research that would back up how the brain learns best, taking us ALL to new, and often unimaginable heights.    For today's episode #309 we will be speaking with Dianne Kosto, the CEO and founder of Symmetry Neuro PT. Dianne is a Mom on a Mission to make neurofeedback (to help the brain learn to better regulate) accessible and easy, with a global vision for improving the lives and brains for families who have a member struggling with physical or emotional pain, that we all know disrupts everything in our day-to-day life. I wanted to cover Dianne's work on the podcast because while I have heard about neurofeedback as a brain-based therapy to improve brain function without medication, I don't know much about it. Let's meet Dianne Kosto, and see what she has created with Symmetry PT to help all of us to live happier, and healthier lives, with our brain health and function in mind. Welcome Dianne, it's wonderful to meet you. Where are we reaching you today? Q1: I want to dive right in here, as I think the company that you have founded solves a critical need in the world today. I don't think I know anyone who has not seen the effects of high stress in our daily lives. Can you start out with why you founded Symmetry NeuroPathway Training? What's the story of your son? What did you notice he needed support with? What gaps did you see with our current healthcare system that caused you to take action? Where did you first begin to connect the brain to our mental health? What changed did you see with your son? HOW did these changes take place? Q2: For those of us who might have heard of this type of treatment, but like me, if I've not used something, it's not easy to explain it. Can you give us an overview? What is Neurofeedback? (alters the structure and function and brain). EEG biofeedback? Q3: How does neuroplasticity occur with neurofeedback? Why do think this brain-based therapy is so successful with making long-term changes in someone who might be struggling in some way? Q4: What are some of the most common issues that are improved with neurofeedback? Q5: The whole reason I do this podcast, connecting the brain to our schools, sports and workplaces, is that we were never taught about the importance of a healthy brain when we were growing up. When did you first notice that a healthy brain could change a person's life? Dr. Daniel Amen “When your brain works right, you work right.” Q6: Why does this work? Can you review the research? I also find this fascinating that when we can improve the structure and function of our brain, it changes our results significantly. Q6B: How can we change our brain waves at will? We have explored this from meditation, but I wonder what you would say? Q6C: Cats can change their brain waves? If cats can, why not humans? What happened with the NASA study? How did the cats change the structure and function of their brain? Q7: How exactly do our brain waves work? We have covered brain waves on past episodes[i], working on ways to go from the BETA state, to ALPHA for more creativity.  How does neurofeedback change our brain waves? Q7B: What should we all understand about our brain waves? What impacts neurological dysregulation and changes brain wave patterns? Q7C: How does Neuropathway Symmetry work? Does someone need to come into your offices for this? Is there any way to change the pattern in our brain remotely/from home? Q8: Where would someone begin? Q9: What results do people typically see? Dianne, I want to thank you for sharing your story as a Mom on a mission to help others who might have a child, or another family member who is struggling somehow, and could be helped by Symmetry Neuro-PT. If someone wants to learn more, is the best way to schedule an appointment with your team? Thank you for your time today, and for your vision to make this world a better place, by helping us to understand what's available to help us to improve our self-regulation skills, and take control of our brain health. No one else will do this for us. Get Dianne's NEW book, From Trauma to Triumph: A Mom's Mission with Neurofeedback here https://symmetryneuropt.com/from-trauma-to-triumph-a-moms-mission-with-neurofeedback/ SOME FINAL THOUGHTS: I always miss something important in the interview process. Something about listening, and asking questions at the same time, I usually catch what I missed while editing, and I missed the MOST important part of this interview. Dianne is a Mom on a mission for a reason. It started when he son was struggling, and his pathway wasn't looking bright. Dianne did not leave any rocks unturned. She found a way that helped her son, find his way in life, and now she helps others to do the same. What I missed is that Dianne's son is now a US Army Special Forces Green Beret. That's why I do this podcast. We ALL have something important we are meant to do while we are here living life, on this place called earth. We will come up with challenges along the way, and some may take us off course.  But there is a bright future for ALL of us. Everyone has the same opportunity to live a healthy and successful life, it's just knowing the resources that are available to us, to help us when we become stuck, that will move the needle for us. If you saw something in this interview that could help you, a family member, or someone you know, please do reach out to Dianne and book an appointment with her and her team to discuss your situation. I am not affiliated with her business, just here to share what she has created, with the hope that it unlocks someone else potential, someone who might have been stuck, to reach NEW heights. And with that, I'll close out this episode, and see you next week, for PART 2 of Dr. Joe Dispenza's book review. See you next week. If more people paid attention to having a little more common sense, most of the things you see go wrong is because of the lack of it. (2:03) • I joined the Army at the age of 17 and started my journey. (6:05) • I was never the disciplinary unless it came to standards. If you wanted flexibility, you had to meet the baseline. (28:37) • My military certainly taught me how to have and develop hard skills – technical skills. The overwhelming majority of me surviving had nothing to do with hard skills, but had everything to do with planning, preparation, attention to detail, culture, physical fitness, health and wellness, as a collective. (32:38) • You have to understand how to operate and be resilient every single day. (33:29) • Resilience, by far, is the hardest thing to teach. (34:36) • Resilience is the act of getting up after you've been beat down. (37:39) • “You're going to rise to the occasion” is a misnomer. You're going to fall to your level of training. (40:58) • My company is called Fieldcraft Survival. (43:00) • VSO – Village Stabilization Operations. You wanna have access to placement? Well, get into the environment where people live, train and educate them, empower them, and that place will be better. (50:03) • One of the reasons me and Marcus were successful in our military careers is because we had an institution – a culture that was willing to listen to subject matter experts, and we took that information and applied it to our lives. 156 miles of Afghanistan stood between a convoy led by US Army Special Forces and the Forward Operating Base (FOB) they were to resupply. As their destination was in the very heart of Taliban territory, they knew they would be attacked. However, no one could have predicted the absolutely terrifying firefight would last for three days. HBH is honored to be joined by US Army Special Forces Green Beret, Sniper, Ranger, Professional MMA Fighter and NYT bestselling author Tim Kennedy.Afghanistan's Oruzgan province was so hostile in 2008, that resupplying FOB Anaconda via aircraft was deemed too dangerous. Thus, the only means of completing the mission was via an 80-vehicle convoy. The only road was very narrow, made of dirt and ran at the base of a deep valley in the province most loyal to the Taliban. The moment the Green Berets and their Czech and Afghan allies left Kandahar, they were squarely in harms way.Tim had seen plenty of action before this mission. However, he and the men he fought alongside faced a level of violence and peril that few soldiers ever encounter, and even fewer live to tell the story. We highly recommend Tim Kennedy's brand new and already New York Times bestselling book, ‘Scars and Stripes'.Don't forget to subscribe, download, rate and review Heroes Behind Headlines.

Andrew and Adam Marr are the founders of the Warrior Angels Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing healing solutions to veterans afflicted by traumatic brain injury.  Andrew served as a US Army Special Forces Green Beret on multiple deployments to Afghanistan. He was a breacher, and consistent indirect exposure to explosions created massive inflamation that turned off most of his brain activity.  A once thriving man, Andrew fell into a pit of sickness and despair while trying to support his wife and five children at the time. Andrew was medically retired from the Army with few options for continuing and no help to heal his unseen wounds.  After months of suffering while trying to find a solution, Andrew found Dr. Mark Gordon, who put him on a protocol of restorative nutriceuticals that healed his brain and his body. Today Andrew is back to life as a high-functioning individual, capable of excellence.  Andrew's story is outlined in the book, Tales from the Blast Factory, which he coauthored with Adam. He is also the subject of the award-winning documentary Tales from the Blast Factory.  Adam, who served as an Army Aviation Officer, came up with the idea to create a 4x4x48 challenge modeled after David Goggins grueling four mile run, every four hours, for forty-eight hours to raise money for the Warrior Angels Foundation. Known for his tactical gear and training company, Ronin Tactics, he is also known for his on-screen appearance on Forged in Fire: Knife or Death, as well as being featured as a playable character in Call of Duty: Warzone. Tu has carved out a public image of himself as a disciplined modern-day warrior and teacher. Daniel explores Tu's unforgiving upbringing as a Vietnam War refugee, his decorated career as a US Army Special Operations soldier, his passion for the martial arts, and his Bushido mindset to find peace during adversity. https://media.blubrry.com/gunfightercast/content.blubrry.com/gunfightercast/184-Tu_Lam_Finding_Peace_as_a_Warrior.mp3 Host: Daniel Shaw Guest (usual Co-Host!): Tu Lam Introduction/Timeline: Eric Huh 02:41 Escaping Death Daniel asks Tu about his upbringing and what lead him to where he is today. Tu reveals a tragic and violent past, being born literally in the midst of the Vietnam War. Upon the US leaving South Vietnam and Saigon falling, the North Vietnamese forces rounded up the majority of Tu's family and had them executed. His mother took her children and fled with thousands of others to escape oppression. What awaited the Lam family was more cruelty and suffering as they, along with hundreds of other refugees, were cramped into tiny boats, sailing in the South China Sea. Upon reaching the coast of Malaysia, they were denied entry into the country. The Malaysian troops cut their motor and left the entire boat of refugees out to die. For 30 days straight, the refugees drifted out with no access to clean water or food. Just as Tu's mother had given up all hope and contemplated feeding poison to her children to spare them of further misery, a Russian naval supply vessel spotted their boat. Despite being on opposite sides of the war, the Soviet troops showed mercy and saved the refugees by providing food and medical aid. This was nothing short of a miracle made by fortuitous timing. If the war was still ongoing, the Soviets would have been compelled to follow wartime protocol and would have taken the refugees back to Vietnam. The horrors the Lam family faced, unfortunately, did not end there. The refugees were relocated into a camp in an Indonesian jungle, with no actual facilities or resources. Dead bodies would be regularly found in the jungles near the camp as people attempted to forage and find food. The strength of Tu's mother was all that held them together. “[My mother] is my strength… [During that time] there was a slim to no chance that we would have lived. And she goes, ‘I would have rather died than to have lived in fear'” After a year and a half, Tu's uncle was finally able to pay for his family to immigrate to the US. 12:55 Living in a Post-War America One of Tu's earliest memories of living in the states was entering a grocery store in North Carolina with his mother. From living through horrific starvation to suddenly being able to pick any food item of his choice was a culture shock. But post-Vietnam War America was not without its faults. Tu's entire childhood was riddled with instances of racist encounters and harassment from his white counterparts. The context Tu gives is that the entirety of the Vietnam War was not at all popular in the US, which in turn spawned many racist anti-Asian sentiments. At eight years of age, Tu experienced bullying from a racist white classmate. One day the situation escalated to where both Tu and his bully were sent to the principal's office to be reprimanded. The bully's mother was called in and was informed about the incident. When she turned to speak to Tu, instead of offering any hint of an apology,

Building Community thru Voluntary Hardship with Jason McCarthy of GORUCK - Ep 370

Barbell Logic

Jason McCarthy of GORUCK discusses rucking, his Army service, & building community through voluntary hardship & shared suffering. He shares his story of how we went from US Army Special Forces (Green Beret) to founding and running a company that--similar to Barbell Logic--believe in voluntary hardship and building community. If you're interested in GORUCK or their gear, go to http://goruck.go2cloud.org/aff_c?offer_id=16&aff_id=2784 and check out their high-quality clothing & gear. Disclaimer: Barbell Logic is compensated for purchases made using this link.   You can learn more about GORUCK here. Jason joined the Army after 9/11 because of 9/11. He enlisted and eventually completed the long, arduous Green Beret pipeline. In the Army, but especially the Green Berets, shared suffering strengthens teams and prepares these units for difficulties of combat. While civilian rucking does not, cannot, and does not aim to simulate Special Forces training, the community and choosing to push oneself beyond one's limits and the comforts of society helps provide purpose and build community, as GORUCK events are done in groups. You have to swim against the current these days. Lifting, rucking--you have to choose to follow these pursuits and maintain the practice to reap the benefits they provide.  This will benefit you in life, as no one--even those who shirk form hardship and choose the comfortable, the convenient, the easy--would not say that life is easy.  With any change, it's important to START--start small, start now or as soon as you can. Commit to beginning. Take your first step. Stop thinking, planning, considering: do.  We celebrate these steps. We celebrate PRs. We celebrate improvement and betterment.  They also discuss the benefits of being a novice and how pursuing new challenges helps prevent burnout with those long term pursuits and things we must do.  Finally, the joy of completion comes up. If you've never experienced a ruck flop after a heavy, long ruck, you're missing out. It's the feeling of racking the bar after your last heavy rep, jumping in a pool after a hard workout, cracking open a beer after a long ruck. After shared suffering comes communal celebration.
