Jays From the Couch Radio presents Episode 177 of our podcast. This week, we start the show off by pouring one out for some former Blue Jays who have been bounced from the postseason already. We still love them, of course. Once we turn our attention to the Blue Jays, we examine all of the clutter in the infield. Some of the logjam could be cleared by way of trade, while other options may sort things out as well. We discuss it all. The future of Devon Travis and Yangervis Solarte are of the most interest to our discussion.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jays-from-the-couch-radio/support

It is rare that one man is able to dominate an entire show, but special times call for special measures when it comes to last night's Blue Jays loss. Host Ryan Andrews puts the alligator boots to Yangervis Solarte for his unacceptable effort on the eighth-inning pop-up that allowed the winning run to score to put the Red Sox over the Blue Jays. The normally pleasant Nova Scotian can not contain their rage at the continued lack of care Solarte has put on the field, and how damaging it is for his teammates, including younger players like Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Teoscar Hernandez and Danny Barnes. The second segment is turned over to let the fans to get their licks in. Many fans agree that Solarte's lazy and lackadaisical play can not be tolerated by the Blue Jays and that he should be moved out as soon as the off-season hits. The final segment sees Andrews address how best to remove Solarte from the picture. Andrews contrasts the option the Blue Jays have with him against Justin Smoak and with Brandon Drury, who is essentially Solarte with effort. The host comes to the conclusion that the buyout is the best option, and sites the Josh Donaldson saga as proof that is the direction the Blue Jays will take. Special thanks to @KarenSoutar1, @BigCal1964, @kerry_a23, @swillc, @hallamaniac07, @ctrain_nl, @Twihard59, @biggles14, @DeeTee416 and @rockitman61 for their contributions to today's podcast! The Red Sox scored the tiebreaking run on an eighth-inning error, completing a three-game sweep of the Blue Jays with a 4-3 victory. J.D. Martinez got things started in the bottom of the second with his 41st home run of the season giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead. Martinez is now tied with Khris Davis for most home runs in the MLB. Devers also hit a solo homer with two outs in the sixth putting Boston up 3-1. After the Blue Jays rallied for two runs to tie it at 3 in the top of the eighth, Xander Bogaerts doubled in the bottom half and stole third. He came home when Toronto second baseman Yangervis Solarte dropped a popup in shallow right field giving the Red Sox a 4-3 lead. Brandon Workman faced one batter, ending Toronto's eighth-inning rally with just three pitches, and got the win. Craig Kimbrel earned his 40th save. Boston starter Eduardo Rodriguez struck out seven in six innings retiring the last nine batters he faced.

A tough day all around for the city of Toronto yesterday and Ryan Andrews does their best to put a positive spin on the baseball aspect. In the first half, Andrews praises a rare decent day for the offense, despite the lack of production with RISP. Andrews singles out Devon Travis and Yangervis Solarte with good nights at the plate. The Nova Scotian also praises Marcus Stroman's strong start against a top opponent, but wonders if precautions shouldn't be taken with the blister Stroman appeared to be dealing with.In the second half, Andrews digs into the bullpen, as Ryan Tepera and Ken Giles earn deserved scrutiny. Andrews questions whether or not Tepera let his anger get the best of him, especially in the wake of some questionable calls. The host also wonders if Giles is not trusting his slider enough as an out pitch, as his fastballs won't work on guys who can hit 98 mph easily.Follow the podcast @LockedOnJays and the host @NeoAC18!Subscribe on iTunes and Google Play! Ryan Andrews is not in a good mood and needs help sorting their feelings, so Jays From the Couch writer Roy Widrig is on the program to help! The two discuss last night's abomination of an 11th inning that sealed the Blue Jays' fate in a sweep at the hands of the Twins. Andrews laments the shambles that the bullpen has fallen into and the ninth inning double play that Kendrys Morales had no good choices in avoiding. Widrig points out how bench flexibility could have helped that issue and says that Yangervis Solarte may be expendable now, thanks to Lourdes Gurriel Jr. In the second half, the pair break down the trade of Seunghwan Oh to the Rockies and where Forrest Wall and Chad Spanberger will fit in the Blue Jays system. John Salvagno of SAL Notes offers a quick breakdown of Spanberger and his thumping power bat, and Widrig is intrigued by Wall's speed. Thanks to @SALNotes for the analysis! The FIRST Toronto Blue Jays Show of 2018! The Blue Jays have had a busy, yet unsexy off-season that has transformed this team that fans may be unfamiliar with. They've acquired Aledmys Diaz, Yangervis Solarte, Randal Grichuk, Curtis Granderson, and Jaime Garcia to raise the floor for the Jays in hopes to propel them into a post-season run. However, there are a lot of familiar faces that are back with the team such as Marco Estrada, JA Happ, Aaron Sanchez, Kevin Pillar, Justin Smoak, Marcus Stroman, and Josh Donaldson. In short, this is a much different team than last season's, and it's one that has a lot to be encouraged with. Yet, like any season, there's no shortage of controversy and debate. Is Joe Biagini better off in the bullpen or stretched out as a starter in AAA Buffalo? Is there a damaged relationship between Marcus Stroman and Blue Jays management as a result of his arbitration hearings and what was said during that time? Is the disconnect between management and Josh Donaldson in regards to a contract extension, terms, and dollars, one that cannot be bridged? To explore these and other topics, host Adam Corsair has guest Brendan Panikkar of Jays Journal on the show. Adam and Brendan get into the aforementioned topics surrounding the Jays, how they feel they match up in the American League, whether or not this team can compete, and a whole lot more! Plus, they answer YOUR Twitter and Instagram questions! It's the FIRST 2018 Blue Jays show on the South of the 6ix Podcast, and it's one that you won't want to miss! Finally, they answer listener questions, give out two Do Overs, and hand out a Gold Star.

Yangervis Solarte is now a member of the Toronto Blue Jays. MLB.com's Tim McMaster and Blue Jays reporter Gregor Chisholm discuss how Solarte fits into the current Toronto squad and examine the strengths of the bullpen heading into the 2018 season.
Jay Bruce is returning to his former team after signing a new three-year contract with the New York Mets. MLB.com's Matthew Leach and fantasy expert Fred Zinkie discuss how Bruce's possible move to first base not only affects him, but teammates Dominic Smith and Michael Conforto as well. Toronto traded for infielder Yangervis Solarte, how will the team manage playing time between him, Troy Tulowitzki and Devon Travis? Will newly acquired Joakim Soria be the closer for the White Sox? Plus, Leach and Zinkie also break down some of the league's biggest sleepers at catcher and the infield positions.
