After losing a father, getting deep into drugs and alcohol, and finding no hope in school or life, life seemed pointless. Though, after experiencing genuine people and help at a treatment center, there was a sense of hope that began to grow. From a kid who flunked out of college, became an addict, and lost a parent, to someone who is more than their struggles and who can make a better name for themself. That's the life-changing effect that a sober living center can have on many men and women, which is why Jack and Zack decided to pay that forward and do their part in their own town. Owners of Hyperion Sober Living, Jack Shain and Zach Young, both have similar backgrounds that brought them together but their journey's there were a bit different. Jack went on to college, eventually flunking out due to drinking and partying, while Zack on the other hand didn't go to college and pursued construction and drugs instead. Jack ended up going on to become a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor and Zack continued to recover while working in treatment centers. It wasn't until a treatment event where Jack shared his recovery story and how he lost his father at 16, that brought them two together, as Zack had a similar story with losing his father at a young child. Fast forward to today, they now own a sober living 12-step program where they give back, helping men live a life they never thought possible. In this episode of Success is Subjective, Jack and Zack join Joanna to share their journey going from losing their fathers, struggling in school, and ending up in rehab, to go on to make a better name for themselves and use their recovery experience to help others in recovery. We recorded The Noble Man Podcast Episode 61 from the island of Oahu, HI, so I could talk with 2/3 of the Young men, Tim and Zach. While Ben is doing his internship in West Virginia this summer, Stacy, Hannah, Zach, and I visited Tim, Caroline, and baby Owen. I took advantage of the opportunity to talk with Tim and Zach about the value of having godly peers in your life. Both Young men prayed for, sought after, and found a group of guys who sticks closer than a brother. “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Proverbs 18:24 The guys outline the process of finding men that they would forge lasting bonds with and offer two key components in finding the right guys: Consistency and Intentionality In a crisis of faith moment, we need to recognize we can't stand alone. We must make ourselves vulnerable to other guys and see the value in connecting to other men. We need to find others who offer different but strong godly perspectives on what it means to live out faith. Men, if you think you don't want anyone to see your weaknesses or know when you need help, it's a foolish and fleshly way to think. As you listen, meditate on Proverbs 18:24, and ask yourself, “Do I have those friends who stick closer than a brother?” Stay tuned to The Noble Man Podcast for more to come in the “Growing Up Young” series. “When David's time to die drew near, he commanded Solomon his son, saying, ‘I am about to go the way of all the earth. Be strong, and show yourself a man.'” 1 Kings 2:2 What does it mean to show yourself a man? Manhood is confused and corrupted in our culture and our time. Many young men (and young women) are uncertain about what manhood is and are fearful to explore the topic because of the stigma of toxic masculinity. In Episode 45, we talk with 4 Gen Z young men to wrestle with what manhood is and what these young men are looking for. Their discussion is an encouragement and a challenge for men to form more intergenerational bonds. Even as they study the Word together, they are open and hungry to engage with more experienced men and to learn from their victories and their mistakes. They express a desire to learn from the older man what he wishes he knew when he was younger. They also share advice for young fathers from the perspective of what has meant a lot to them or what they wish they had. Invest early and often. Guide and provide wisdom from your past experience – things you messed up or things you have done well. Cultivate an environment of trust, and provide a safe space to lean into you for understanding and love. Talking about manhood is one of the best evangelical hooks of our time. Society's understanding of manhood is often warped and counter to what Christ shows us. Even with the true biblical definition of manhood, we cannot do it in our own strength. We need to lean into Jesus for his guidance and lean into other men who are pursuing Christ and who will point you back to Jesus and the Word when things get rough. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10 “Living out biblical manhood is part of the abundant life.” Resources: BetterMan Authentic Manhood – 33 The Series View Show Notes: NobleWarriors.org/episode45 Leave a Review: If you like what you've been hearing, we invite you to leave us a review. Still, the condition continues to mystify us today. Anne Hoffman is a reporter, a professor, and a chronic migraine sufferer. In this episode of The Examined Life, Phil Kallberg interviews Prof. Zach Young, a Professor at River Valley Community College. In an essay, Prof. Young has advanced a theory that people who are undergoing intense suffering have lost the ability to make meaning out of their lives and that the way to help these people restore meaning to their lives is to bring them into community with other people and God. Phil and Prof. Young discuss the essay and this theory. (December 28, 2018)

In the wake of one of the worst storms in US history, Huffpost national reporter Roque Planas talks to Zach Young about what it was like to report from Houston during Hurricane Harvey and witness the destruction firsthand. Then, former Texas gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis talks about how Texans are responding to the storm -- and how the state's politics make a bigger-picture reckoning with the dangers of unchecked urban sprawl difficult. Finally, Huffpost reporters Marina Fang and Jessica Schulberg talk about Mexico's offer of disaster aid -- and our commander-in-chief's perplexing response to the biggest natural disaster of his young presidency. There are no parents in the world who want to see their child sick. Often the illness is no big deal—you follow doctor’s orders and your kid gets better soon. But what do you do when your child is really sick, and it’s because of decisions the founders of your religion made more than 300 years ago? And what do you do when the medical solutions seem to run counter to that very same religion? This is the dilemma faced by many Amish and Mennonite parents in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, whose children suffer from genetic diseases at rates exponentially higher than the rest of the population. These Plain People, as they call themselves, typically eschew technology. But 30 years ago they chose to step out of character and embrace the latest advances in genomic medicine to help save their children. Reporter Kyrie Greenberg spent almost a year getting to know some of these families, and she produced this podcast with us. This week, we take a little break from things that happened this week to head to Pasadena, California, for Politicon! Over the weekend, So That Happened producer Zach Young attended the "unconventional political convention" and talked with Symone Sanders, National Press Secretary for the Bernie Sanders campaign, and Austin Petersen, runner-up to Gary Johnson in last year's Libertarian presidential primary. As Cenk Uygur and Ben Shapiro debated loudly in the adjacent auditorium, we had an insightful conversation on what it was like to be part of an outsider presidential campaign in 2016 and what lessons that year holds for the future. Zach Young is a husband, father, and business consultant. He's been married for 13 years, and his kids ages range from 1 to 11 years old... 3 boys and 3 girls. His work background consists of Marketing, Sales, Management, and Executive Roles. He spent 13 years trying different home business opportunities while working 40-60 hours per week in corporate America. Majority of those home business opportunities ended in failure... but he didn't give up his dream to be able to work from home and provide a nice living for his family, while also spending a lot of time with them. In February of 2010, Zach took the leap and started working from home full-time. After almost shipwrecking his family financially, he finally started having success in the home business niche... primarily by using the Amazon selling platform. He actually had a 30 day time frame where he made $75,000 in profit while selling on Amazon. With a desire to see many people experience the freedom he had found, he started consulting people on how to have success while working from home. He currently runs a successful consulting business that teaches people how to successfully sell products on Amazon. Below is a free membership to start your All-in journey!
