After experiencing severe illness, he left his career as a producer and committed himself to a path of personal transformation through shamanic plant study, trees, breathwork, fasting, and traditional medicine practices. His work with Amazonian plant dieting traditions radically transformed his life, vision, health, and sense of purpose. Jordan studied under Cocama elder William Llerena Murayari and spent seven years in mentorship with Apache elder Iron Eagle Joe, through whom he received the name Mockingbird and the blessing to teach through ceremony. One of the central subjects of our conversation is the ancient practice of master tree dieting.Jordan explains how these traditional practices involve periods of fasting, solitude, dietary restriction, silence, breathwork, and communion with a particular "teacher tree." Jordan emphasizes somatic knowing, body awareness, breath, fasting, dreams, emotionality, and physical experience as pathways into deeper awareness.
