This week Brian and Harrison kick things of with some footy chat, they cover; State of Origin footy, the Front Bars 'Team of Tradies; (which BT features in), plus, 'CHAT-BT'. Next, the boys are joined by radio presenter and the unofficial 'Queen of Melbourne', Jacqui Felgate. A journalist by trade, Jacqui has been providing Melburnians with the news as it unfolds, and we have come to love her unfiltered and authentic approach to sharing stories. Across her career, she has been extremely successful in conveying her information across an array of mediums, including print with the Herald Sun, on the TV news desk with Seven and Nine, and more, recently on radio with 3AW as the host of their weekday afternoon/drive program, 'Drive with Jacqui'. She has also become an integral source of information for the city of Melbourne across social media, where, as the kids would say, her Instagram account 'pops off'. BT and Jacqui met and grew a friendship when Jacqui was working as a host and presenter for Seven's AFL coverage, she is a very caring, humble, 'no non-sense' operator and we absolutely loved chatting with her. Almost everyone who moves into a new house needs to call back a tradie to deal with a defect, according to new reports. Data in the new BRANZ Build Insights dashboard shows that after they had moved in, 86 percent of new homeowners needed to call back their builder or other tradesperson to fix something after they've moved in. Greg Wallace, CEO of Master Plumbers, says tradies need to focus on getting things right the first time. "There is no benefit for a tradesman to go back and have, no charge to the consumer, to rectify a problem." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Government is set to cut billions of dollars from spending at the upcoming budget as a cost-saving measure in these tight financial conditions. But what if there was a way to raise more revenue from existing industries? Analysis from the Herald has looked at the ‘black market’ or the informal economy – the industries dominated by cash in hand methods of payment that pass by the tax system. NZ Herald Head of Newsroom Data Chris Knox has run the numbers, and joins us today on The Front Page to talk through how much the country is missing out on. House builders and tradespeople deemed as "trusted" will be able to sign off their own work under a self-certification scheme to be introduced by the government. Building and construction Minister Chris Penk spoke to Corin Dann.
A promise tradies have to get it right when they sign-off their own work under new rules. The Building and Construction Minister has announced a scheme to let approved firms and tradies like plumbers and drainlayers self-approve work on simple residential jobs. Companies deemed reputable could opt-in. Chris Penk says they'll have to undertake a process of promising quality. "And there will be standards, obviously, that they've got to continue to meet, they've got to have the right sorts of assurances and insurance in place as well - so they've got every incentive to get it right." There's a belief better pathways to industry and trades training are needed. A report from the New Zealand Initiative has found just 6% of 16-to-19 year-olds participate in workplace learning, while 11% are unemployed. It states schools are geared toward university education, even though only about a third enrol in degrees. Report author Michael Johnston says apprenticeship options need to be more visible to young people. He told Mike Hosking part of the problem is apprenticeship training is viewed as being for the kids who don't cope with the academic path. Johnston says we need to rearrange the system so that young people, regardless of their background and propensities, look at apprenticeship training as a viable option. If you run a trade business and get your work from other businesses, not individual people, then you need to be doing business-to-business marketing. Before you dismiss marketing and say you don't do it, consider this: you're doing some form of marketing, or you wouldn't get any business. And for most businesses, business to business marketing is required. Say:- If you're a builder specialising in architectural work, architects and designers can refer work to you.- If you do front-end work, you might call designers, state managers, and even target customers directly. - If you do work with government agencies, subcontract to builders, or work controlled by property managers. All these people (employees or owners of businesses) are either in control of awarding work or have influence. So if you're someone who works with those types of companies you need to be engaging in business to business marketing. You need to be calling these people, and forming relationships with them. Not just once but repeatedly - nurturing these relationships so you can get repeat work. Want help? Check out this week's video then get the guide. --------------------------------------If you're interested in growing your trade business, head over to our website and you can read some more of these Tradies Toolbox Tips: https://www.smallfish.com.au/trades-business-coaching/Book a money-maker call: https://www.smallfish.com.au/chatFOLLOW US AT:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/smallfishcoach/Twitter: https://twitter.com/smallfishcoachInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/smallfishbusinesscoach/YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/smallfishau

Tradies were literally arriving at our house and not long after were requesting to use the toilet and doing number 2s (with the sound effects). Not just a once off; this was happening everyday of the renos. Am I the only one to think this is not acceptable? My husband was a lot more understanding than I was; maybe because I'm the one who had to clean it!?). Should tradies not ask to use the toilet if they need to do a poo or am I just being very unreasonable!! DOES YOUR PARTNER INTERACT WITH YOU AT THE END OF THE DAY? My boyfriend's default after coming home from work is to be on his phone , watch reels, news, stocks etc. I have told him before to give me attention for a few minutes and just be nice to me so I feel loved. Tonight, Friday night, I'm home from work and looking out onto the balcony as if it's a nice sunset. He comes home, says hi (the door is right across from the balcony ) and sits on the sofa and starts looking at phone. (I was expecting him to walk over to me and give me a hug and kiss). I ask him to come out to the balcony and he says no and continues looking at phone. After a few minutes I ask him to give me some attention (exact words: "babe can you give me some attention?") He throws his phone down and says "stop complaining" and goes into the bedroom and doesn't come out for 45mins. He came out later to the living room and said sorry but he was upset. I asked him to come outside, and he didn't want to. He thinks I'm dramatic and I create a scene ....What do you think? Is it normal to want to be greeted at the end of a work day or am I expecting something that isn't normal? SIS IN LAW SHOWER WITH MY DAUGHTER My sister in law has showered my daughter with her a couple of times, which I don't feel comfortable with. My biggest issue is that she never asks if it is okay before doing it. I have mentioned it to my husband but he didn't really think it was a big deal.
