If at first you don't succeed, try again. A common sentiment, but particularly relevant for athletes, and one Hamish Kerr is familiar with. The Olympic high jump gold medallist told Mike Hosking that his first attempt at the Fosbury flop left him with a bloody nose, as he hit his nose against his knee on the way over. Kerr's come a long way since that first jump, and now his goal is to leap 2.4 meters – four centimetres higher than his medal winning 2.36 meters. “For me it's just about getting stronger and faster and that's something we really worked on this year,” he told Hosking. “Probably the most we've done of that in my whole career, and that's, that's why I've done so well.” The world record is 2.45 meters, and if he continues the way he does, Kerr thinks the goal is within reach. “If I have another four years of that, then there's no reason why I wouldn't be getting better.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Now you can stream it wherever you listen to your podcasts for free for a few weeks. In 2021, as the pandemic still raged on and we washed our vegetables and supplies before consuming them, a young delivery startup promised that you can get all your groceries – everything you need – delivered right to your doorstep. In 10 minutes. This was pretty crazy, back then. Zepto was written off as an ambitious, overhyped startup run by two founders who had barely outgrown their teenage – by competitors and experts alike. In 2024, Zepto has now raised $1.2 billion in venture capital, with a valuation on $3.6 billion. Everyone was wrong about this little startup, which seems to have achieved something that retail brands only dream to: changing consumer habits. 10-minute delivery is now the norm – so much so that the likes of the good old retail giants Dmart and Reliance Retail are scratching their heads. Even Flipkart and Amazon are scuttling about, trying to crack the hyperlocal delivery space. Who would've thought Zepto would be the company to set the cat among the pigeons? It's not random, though. Zepto has tapped into specific advantages – categories, space, speed. And it certainly has timing to thank. All of these aspects have come together serendipitously for Zepto, but the real question is: does it pose a real threat to India's largest retail brands? And if it does, what will they do to stop Zepto? In this episode of Two by Two, hosts Rohin Dharmakumar, CEO of The Ken and Praveen Gopal Krishnan (PGK), COO of The Ken speak with guests Seetharaman G and Arvind Singhal to break down how exactly Zepto managed to surprise everyone, and what this means for the e-commerce space, going forward.About the guests:Arvind Singhal is the founder of Technopak Advisors, a 30 year old management consulting firm best known for its insights on retail and consumer goods. Arvind is an absolute expert on all things retail, with 30 years of hands-on experience advising the most prominent retail companies in India and abroad.Seetharaman G is The Ken's deputy editor and lead writer on all things retail, FMCG and e-commerce. He's reported on quick commerce as well as large retail brands in India week after week in Trade Tricks, the Ken's paid newsletter on retail. Track and Field has become the first sport to pay athletes for their Olympic gold medals. World Athletics, the governing body that oversees worldwide track and field events, will be awarding $50,000 in prize money to gold medalists are the 2024 Paris Olympics. They've set aside a total of $2.4 million to go to medalists across the 48 men's, women's, and mixed events, with relay teams splitting the $50,000 amongst themselves. Long serving member and former Vice President of the IOC, Dick Pound, told Jason Pine that with a leading sport like athletics going in this direction, it's likely other prominent sports will start to face pressure to do something similar. In this amazing episode of The Unlock Moment, we tap into the mindset of a world-leading performance coach who won Olympic gold in the challenging currents of whitewater canoeing. We talk about how the places that feel safe are not always the places with highest opportunity. And we delve deep into the thoughts of one who is a true expert in the art of navigating the choppy waters of midlife uncertainty.Joe Jacobi is an Olympic gold medallist, a CEO, a performance coach and author who guides high performance leaders to ignite their second wind to confront challenging midlife transitions with meaning and adventure. Back in the Barcelona Olympics of 1992, Joe won America's first ever Olympic Gold Medal in the sport of whitewater canoe slalom, competing with his canoeing partner Scott Strausbaugh. These days he's back in that same part of the world, where he lives in a mountain home in the Pyrenees. In 2022, Joe published his first book, "Slalom: 6 River Classes About How To Confront Obstacles, Advance Amid Uncertainty, And Bring Focus To What Matters Most." It's full of Joe's reflections, experiences, relationships, and strategies on how more than 40 years on the river transferred to navigating your river of life.I'm looking forward to hearing Joe's take on what it takes to become an Olympic gold medallist, the challenges he faced after retiring from the sport and how he got his life back on track. And of course I'm curious about the Unlock Moments of remarkable clarity that helped him to figure out the path ahead.--Joe Jacobi: http://joejacobi.com/Sign up for Sunday Morning Joe: http://joejacobi.com/sign-up-for-sunday-morning-joe/Joe Jacobi on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jacobijoe/

Rooted in Jamaica and then Oakville, Ont., Bailey rocketed around the world after a belated entry into athletics. Following his triumphs on the track, his career was derailed by injuries. Decades after retirement, he makes it clear where he stands in the pantheon of Canadian sport. All you need to do is read the title — Undisputed: A Champion's Life.
Swimming legend and gold medallist Kaylee McKeown made Wippa feel a lot better about his body hair issues. Who would've thought Wippa would be asking an Olympic athlete for hair trimming advice but it's Friday and we've run out steam. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

So much of our lives happen in the mind. Some neuroscientists will argue all of it is happening in the mind. But without question, so much of life is about your mindset. How we manage stress, disease, failure, challenges and hurdles, those are all about our mindset. That is why I brought on gold medalist and mindset master Laura Wilkinson, who won medals in every competition she ever qualified for and decided to go for another Olympic gold at the age of 39.Laura Wilkinson is an Olympian diver who holds a rare honor of having won an individual gold medal at every major international meet for which she was eligible. A specialist on the platform, Wilkinson attended the University of Texas where she was NCAA Champion in 1997 and 1999, won the 1998 Goodwill Games, won her first Olympic gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Games and has since won medals at World Cups (2004) and World Championships (2005) as well as competed in two other Olympic games (2004, 2008). She is an inductee in the Swimming Hall of Fame, a 19-time US champion and returned from retirement at age 39 with the aim to compete at Tokyo 2020. A combination of the COVID pandemic delay and serious neck surgery meant that never happened but it motivated Laura to take her coaching to a new level by creating the online course Confident Competitor, with the goal of helping athletes eliminate performance anxiety.Join us as we explore:What it means to have a champion's mindset whether you are a gold medal Olympian or a 15-year-old Laura who was told she started too late and her diving would never amount to anything. What it means to be anti-fragile, resilient and develop grit by developing the mindset that our most painful setbacks and defeats can become our greatest strengths and lessons. The power of mentorship, finding inspiration from others, their stories, and their struggles. Why goals can be “unrealistic” but why it is also okay not to accomplish them, how to overcome fear, the power of self-talk, the importance of flexibility and adaptability, and why flow state is not something magical that just happens but must be trained and prepared for.How to approach athleticism and performance as you begin to mature in age.Contact:Website – https://www.laurawilkinson.comCourse – Confident Competitor, https://pursuitofgold.lpages.co/confident-competitor-2023/Mentions:Person - Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Flow StateBook – Steven Kotler, The Art of Impossible.Product – KAATSU, https://madetothrive.co.za/product/kaatsu-c3-black/Support the showSupport the show on Patreon:As much as we love doing it, there are costs involved and any contribution will allow us to keep going and keep finding the best guests in the world to share their health expertise with you.
