Want to break through procrastination and enhance your productivity? Here are five methods I've used regularly to get in the zone and let ideas start flowing. 1. Make Micro-commitments - Momentum generates motivation. 2. Walk Before Working - Walking has been shown to enhance creativity. Since momentum generates motivation, the physical movement gets you into a state of action. 3. Become Inspired - Reading can spur your mind with fresh ideas when you ask, "How would I put that into my own words? 4. Work Through Fears and Uncertainty - Fears and uncertainty are many times at the root of procrastination. There can be fear of failure, fear of wasting time, uncertainty about what you're wanting to accomplish leading to indecision, and more. 5. Use Accountability - Add accountability by telling people when your project will be complete and offer them something if it isn't done. I used to offer friends $20 if I didn't get a done by a particular date. Which of these will you begin to implement now? When things are piling up, back logging, and there is more work to be done than you have time and staff to do it, you are going to pay one of the 4 following costs: The Cost of Missing Out – You’re going to have to turn down some of the opportunities in front of you. And you’ll have to risk missing out on something by just saying no altogether and crossing it off your list of projects. The Cost of Hiring More Staff – You need to invest money into bringing on more people to help you do all of the work that you’re creating. The Cost of Doing it Yourself – You will have to pick up the slack personally on the things that your team can’t get to and do some of those things yourself. This is typically the most expensive option because you’re either paying someone else to do something at their rate of pay or you’re paying yourself to do it at yours. The Cost of Waiting – You can choose to be okay with the project or task being delayed until your team completes the existing things in the queue and has the necessary capacity to take on these additional items. This is also known as patience – and very few people today have any. What is important to realize, whether you like it or not, is that when you are overwhelmed you’re always going to pay one of these 4 costs. It can feel hopeless when you’re overwhelmed and there is more to get to than you can ever possibly do, but that’s just a feeling. The reality is that you are very much in control. You have 4 choices. And you are capable of making any of the 4 choices… but you will have to choose one. So make your choice and be okay with it. Because what you do not want is the cost of extra stress and feeling helpless.

You want to have more courage and be more confident. You want to walk into a room and feel comfortable starting a conversation. You want to be brave and start that project or apply for that dream job. Whatever it is, you’ve got something you want to do, and you want the confidence to do it. But I’m going to tell you something, and it’s probably going to surprise you. Confidence is overrated. It’s not nearly as important as you think. Today I’m talking about why confidence is overrated and what is ten times more important.  So when we talk about wanting to feel more confident, most of us want this. We want that certainty and self-assurance mentioned in the definition. But here’s the thing. Certainty? We want to know that the next step is "safe". Well, guess what 99.9% of the time it's not. Why? Because of it being a new thing we are dong based on the need to get it done and the commitment we made to start.  So maybe you should stop thinking so much about confance and think about the necessarity of oyou "just doing it"

Today I want to talk about Align Yourself To Success I have had to do a lot of belief shifting on the idea of “achieving” and "success" and what that meant for me. In the world I grew up in, I was conditioned to want more, have more and be more. This constant energy of more created a sense that who I was and what I had was somehow not enough. Therein lies the “achievement” trap that was killing me, the never-ending hamster wheel I found myself running on which was exhausting and unfulfilling.   I started to ask myself "What would it look like if we changed the hamster wheel analogy and replaced it with a path a journey?" That was when I started thinking about building a Life of Success and learning to live in Alignment.  Guess what  I now feel calmer and more excited about walking that path and feeling energized and excited to see what is up ahead while enjoying the view along the journey.   Join me on the Success Life radio episode as I talk about Achievement vs. Alignment Learn more about Eric G Reid  at www.ericgreid.com  Follow with @ericgreid

What does the word commitment suggest? It usually evokes a strong sense of intention and focus. It typically is accompanied by a statement of purpose or a plan of action. Very often, we utilize this word in regard to proclamations we may make about the seriousness of our relationships. For example, “I’m in a committed relationship,” or “I’m completely committed to this relationship.” In such circumstances, what exactly are we saying?  The difficulty is that we’re making promises about behaviors and outcomes, but ignoring the process necessary to achieve those goals.  If we are seeking a Life of Success we need to first understand Commitment and then Understand the cost of that Commitment.

Who wants to be happy? Well, who doesn't? After a coaching session this morning, it struck me that when we focus on chasing our wants, our level of happiness actually drops. The more we focus on what we don't have, the more deprived we feel. After all, inherent in the meaning of "wanting" is not having, and you cannot feel fulfilled while you focus on what you lack. That is a fundamental principle of all spiritual thinking. So, here's the fix: If you want to be happy, be grateful for what you have. Focus on that. First  Then start to ask yourself - what is it I "want" about this thing or experience? What will happen if I pass on it? We have all had that experience that we wanted something so badly that all things stoped until we acquired it ... only to be disappointed.

Ideally everyone should focus on both and perform every task in life with maximum confidence and competence. Both can be enhanced with the help of positive self affirmations and by doing really challenging and tough tasks. Confidence is the self belief that you can perform whereas Competence is your real capacity of performing. There's a famous quote, which is really true, on confidence by an unknown author. It says ‘Confidence is like a muscle: the more you use it, the stronger it gets’. And there is no better place to do this than in a plush armchair, overlooking the ocean or a long walk alone.  I find there is no better time than before anyone has woken up. What is it about immersing oneself in nature that commands a sort of forced poetic narration? Would I have compared the sun to a shy but attention-hungry child had I been seated indoors?  Have you ever considered the abundance of matter around us? The idea that we somehow are not part of the effect of our actions is false.  Anything and everything we are experiencing right now is a direct result of our early thoughts and actions  We all want to live the best life we possibly can. "Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is you-er than you. Shout aloud, I am glad to be what I am. Thank goodness I'm not a ham, or a clam, or a dusty old jar of gooseberry jam. I am what I am, what a great thing to be. If I say so myself, happy everyday to me!" ? Dr. Seuss Imagine that two books about you have just been published. The first raves about you and your work. It claims that you are a Divine gift. In it, you have been showered in praise, and encourages you to chase a dream and live in your success.  The second proclaims that you are a complete idiot and a blight upon this world. It insults you and dismisses your work as a waste of time. It encourages people to completely ignore you. Which of those two books would get more of your energy and attention?

Imagination is a wonderful thing. I love dreaming of trips I’ll make or people I’ll meet. Most of us use imagination in one way or another every day. We imagine what our future might be. As children we often spend time in imaginary worlds, dreaming that we are riding on spaceships or living in castles or showing off to our friends. Images flood our minds all the time and we get caught up in them. We also can and often do imagine disasters and get caught up in those images. What will happen if I lose my keys? What will happen if the pipe bursts and everything gets wet? What will happen if I back the car up and hit a post? The thing is we are in control of those imaginary worlds .. so what would happen "if ......"?

Humble Honesty Is the starting point of success

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 3, 2019 17:00

“The first step toward greatness is to be honest.” Proverb Humble Honesty Is the starting point of success Honesty is not just about telling the truth. It’s about being real with yourself and others about who you are, what you want, and what you need to live your most authentic life. Honesty promotes openness, empowers us, and enables us to develop consistency in how we present the facts. Honesty sharpens our perception and allows us to observe everything around us with clarity. The opposite of honesty is deception — or lying. The worst type of lying we practice, in order to deceive, is when we lie to ourselves. We start messing around with our concept of morality, right and wrong, as well as our dreams and desires. When we lie, we are trying to excuse or misrepresent my shortcomings or to compensate for something.  Success, for me, is not quantified in terms of dollars, sales, or the number of Facebook followers. Particularly not the latter! I value success in terms of character, self-awareness, honesty, emotional intelligence, and hard work. How we treat ourselves, others, and how we use our talents to improve the lives of others. The Challange for today Start today, first, by being as honest as you can with yourself. Be honest about your thoughts, words, actions, and wants. Then think about your interaction with society and your relationships. Are you letting people know your true self? If not, what are you afraid of?

What has been the greatest disappointment in your life? Depending on the circumstances this could be a difficult question to answer!  I have had many disappointments, like the majority of people, have, and I agree that we can learn from all the experiences we have got in life and that the accomplishments, as well as the disappointments, make us better and stronger able to deal with many distinctive situations. When I was recently asked about this on a recent podcast discussing overcoming failure I had to pause for a moment and think. Not what you want on a radio show ..... silence. What came next is the answer that I say on today's Success Life live radio show.  Enjoy.

Success is an abstract concept, almost as difficult to define as it is to achieve. To make matters worse, in our world of ultra-connectedness and changing priorities, the traditional path of success is changing all the time. Was it a successful year? What is a successful week or for that matter a successful day? Do you feel as though you accomplished what you wanted at the end of each day? Where did you fall short? And perhaps most importantly, how can you make tomorrow even more successful? In order to build a life of success, we have to start out seeking success. Not success in the sense of that end of life big gold watch with a nice retirement package. Instead we have to look at each day as an opportunity to create  Sucesss.

We have talked about What makes you cry  What makes you laugh (joyfully) Today we talk about What makes you dream  As part of building the foundation for Creating a lifestyle branded PROFITABLE Business Success Life Lesson It started as a conversation, turned into a debate, and somehow became a discussion about which one of you is absolutely right about everything and which one of you is a fool, discredited on every front. How did this happen?  This “winner-takes-all, loser-still-pays” mindset is appearing everywhere The pattern shows up in wars, elections, keeping up with the Joneses, gambling, investing, and even informal arguments. We invest, and then, having invested, are unwilling to let go. We’re willing to pay almost anything to keep from losing, but so will our competitors, which only increases both sides’ investment and unwillingness to surrender it all. We have to learn to accept being wrong as a process of growth

Today Jill Ann Anderson Drops in for more of #JillWeek to share more ideas on how to build your lifestyle based business for success and profit. We talk about building the bridge between what makes us cry and what brings us joy and how our clients want someone to guide them over that bridge. What is your Mindset  What is your Message  What is your Marketing  Where are you in the story Celebrate the small things BIG  When we don’t notice the small things and take the time to celebrate them, they get overshadowed by all of the negatives that your mind picks up. As humans, we are naturally pessimistic and doubtful. It is a lot easier to go through the motions every day than to take a leap of faith. You need to celebrate the small things because you need to stop being your own worst critic and start being your biggest fan. The mind is a powerful thing, and with yourself on your side, you can outsmart that little devil on your shoulder whispering doubt in your ear.

Does your organization have shared core values? No, not the stated values that may be written on a website, posted on walls, and recited to new hires. Well, maybe those, but only if the stated principles truly permeate the organization’s identity, define culture, shape leaders’ decisions, and guide day-to-day behavior for every organization member. Shared core values have long-lasting effects on the way people do work. Stated values, however, are often overlooked. Shared core values are a powerful asset. They have a positive impact on people’s attitudes and behaviors. Organizations may be your workplace or your family the little league or your golf buddies. THe fact is each of us needs to have a set of core value and a tribe that best reflects those values in order for us to behave in a way that allows us to succeed.

Does your current morning routine consist of hitting the snooze button four times and walking out the door five minutes later as you put on your shoes and eat a protein bar, all while checking email on your phone? From that point on, our entire day can feel like we're always trying to rush and catch up, never really feeling on top of our game or very productive. We can do better! Many of us are busy, have a lot of responsibilities and obligations, and often feel strapped for time. Having a great morning routine can make all the difference in being productive, achieving goals, feeling organized, and doing all of this with confidence. Creating a Heatly Morning Habits is not focused on who can accomplish the most or check off more boxes than everyone else, it is about allowing yourself to begin your day with confidence, peace, and a positive attitude.

And, I realize I'm going to have to start over to earn your trust and following.   Amazing how quickly things can fall apart. I do know, though, that I can, and will, start over.  What I know is that as you go bigger what got you to where you are is not going to hold up under the added stress of what comes next and you better have a plan in place before poop hits the fan.  Today I am sharing a bit of what happened and a lot of what I learned in the process.
