Today on Sense of Soul we have David Hulse. David holds a Doctorate of Divinity Degree from the American Institute of Holistic Theology, certification in Pastoral Psychology, and is the author of "Take Another Look: A Scriptural Review of Traditional Christian Doctrines"; God on Assignment as YOU and “A Fork in the Road.” He is a vibrant spiritual guide who bridges traditional doctrines with contemporary spiritual insights. David has decades of experience as a minister, teacher, author, and healer, and has journeyed from a fundamentalist Christian upbringing to an inclusive spiritual vista that champions love over fear. In his earlier years, David's spiritual awakening was ignited by a profound spiritual encounter that led him to reexamine his inherited beliefs and recognize the divine as truths veiled in parables, not confined to literal interpretations. This "cellular awakening" revealed the potential intelligence in human cells, redefining his perception of divinity and humanity's interconnectedness. David is the Founder and Spiritual Guide at the Academy for Spiritual Awakening where his teachings weave together diverse spiritual traditions with modern scientific insights, inspiring individuals to move beyond mere belief in God toward experiencing the divine within themselves. He integrates wisdom from spiritual avatars across ages, emphasizing the co-creative, transformative power of aligning with divine consciousness through prayer, meditation, and contemplation. Dedicated to challenging conventional religious dogmas, David offers a message of unconditional love, inclusivity, the power of gnosis: direct knowledge from Source. David's teachings uniquely "bridge the gap" between a 3D material world and a 5D spiritual awakening, guiding individuals on a transformative journey toward higher consciousness. He calls upon light workers to embrace their roles as co-creators in this shift, helping humanity transcend the limitations of the 3D matrix. David empowers people to embody their true spiritual potential, fostering a global spiritual evolution. https://www.davidhulse.com https://somaenergetics.com https://www.davidhulse.com https://somaenergetics.com https://youtube.com/@heartlightspiritualcenter www.senseofsoulpodcast.com

Joe welcomes back good friend of the podcast, author & theologian Brian McLaren to the show! Born in 1956, he graduated from University of Maryland with degrees in English (BA, 1978, and MA, 1981). His academic interests included Medieval drama, Romantic poets, modern philosophical literature, and the novels of Dr. Walker Percy. In 2004, he was awarded a Doctor of Divinity Degree (honoris causa) from Carey Theological Seminary in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and in 2010, he received a second honorary doctorate from Virginia Theological Seminary (Episcopal). About 'Life After Doom' For the last quarter-century, author and activist Brian D. McLaren has been writing at the intersection of religious faith and contemporary culture. In Life After Doom, he engages with the catastrophic failure of both our religious and political leaders to address the dominant realities of our time: ecological overshoot, economic injustice, and the increasing likelihood of civilizational collapse. McLaren defines doom as the “un-peaceful, uneasy, unwanted feeling” that “we humans have made a mess of our civilization and our planet, and not enough of us seem to care enough to change deeply enough or quickly enough to save ourselves.” Blending insights from philosophers, poets, scientists, and theologians, Life After Doom explores the complexity of hope, the necessity of grief, and the need for new ways of thinking, becoming, and belonging in turbulent times. If you want to help yourself, your family, and the communities to which you belong to find courage and resilience for the deeply challenging times that are upon us — this is the book you need right now.   Make sure to check out the Dtalkspodcast.com website! With the continued decline of churches and denominations, many pastors and church leaders are facing a future filled with doom. In this conversation, Brian McLaren discusses his new book Life After Doom and how the four possible scenarios for the future of our world mirror the reality of institutional church: collapse avoidance, collapse rebirth, collapse survival, and collapse extinction. McLaren emphasizes the need for pastoral care and support in the face of these challenges and encourages individuals to show up for what they love. He also suggests reimagining the Christian faith as a series of movements rather than institutions. McLaren emphasizes the importance of small groups of people coming together to live simpler and more meaningful lives, focusing on conversation and enjoying the beauty of nature. Brian D.  My guest for this episode is Kathleen Panning. Kathleen earned her Master of Divinity Degree from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. She was ordained as a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 1980. She has served congregations in rural and urban settings, ranging in size from 150 to 6000+ members.  Retiring from parish ministry in 2014, that year she became the first clergy person to become a Fascinate® Certified Advisor, using the How To Fascinate® material with faith leaders, nonprofits, and their leadership board to help them improve communication and work together as a team. For about 5.5 years, Kathleen hosted a live, weekly radio show that was heard internationally. Her guest list included people who talked about spirituality, nonprofit leadership, mission and purpose, and just about anything that can relate to being a leader in a faith community or nonprofit.  Kathleen now has a new podcast, Tilted Halo, for women of faith in leadership who feel pressured to be perfect but know perfectly well that they are not.   Her passion is to speak about and train leaders on the power of gratitude to transform their personal lives and their organization to bring greater clarity of purpose and appreciation for family, staff, employees, clients, and the larger community. Doing this will have a positive impact on employee satisfaction and retention, client or customer satisfaction and engagement, and community relationships, all leading to a healthier bottom line. Here's what to expect during the episode: What is gratitude, and why is it important? How does the practice of gratitude influence effective leadership within nonprofit organizations? What benefits can organizations experience when leaders emphasize gratitude? How does changing your mindset to focus on gratitude become a highly impactful transformation?  What attitudes can fatally undermine your sense of gratitude? Connect with Kathleen Panning! Robby has served as Long Hollow's Senior Pastor since 2015. He wasn't always a pastor, though. For three years, he battled a drug addiction that ravaged his life. A $ 180-a-day heroin and cocaine addiction forced him to steal $15,000 from his parents. After living without gas, electricity, and water for months, losing 8 of his friends to drug-related deaths, watching 6 friends arrested, and completing two rehab treatments, Robby remembered the gospel that was shared with him by a friend in college and was radically saved on November 12, 2002. Eight months later, David Platt, a seminary student and church member at the time, asked Robby to meet weekly for accountability, prayer, and bible study. For the next 2 years, David installed a passion for missions, expository preaching, and disciple-making in his life. He also encouraged Robby to go back to school to pursue theological education. Robby completed his Masters of Divinity Degree in Expository Preaching in 2007 and his Ph.D. in Preaching in 2011 from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Today, Robby's gospel conviction and evangelistic zeal drive him to passionately “make disciples who make disciples.” In addition to his leadership at Long Hollow, Robby is also the founder of Replicate Ministries and the author of several books, including Growing Up, Firmly Planted, and Rediscovering Discipleship. How God speaks to us Talk 19 Other ways God guides us In recent talks we have identified five ways in which God may speak to us directly without involving other people: By his audible voice By angels By dreams and visions By supernatural signs By promptings, the inner voice of his Spirit Today we're going to consider other ways in which God may guide us. Throughout this series we've been discussing ways in which God may speak to us. But he sometimes guides us without speaking at all. If we have learned to live by the principles taught in Scripture, we will be guided by them into the right paths. In fact, the more we live by those principles the less we will need the promptings we were talking about in the last talk. But, of course, we need both. The principles of Scripture are the general guidelines by which we should live. The promptings of the Spirit are more specific, giving us direction as to what to do in any given situation, but of course they will never conflict with the principles taught in the Bible. One of the questions that is often asked by young Christians is, How can I know the will of God? It's a good question, because as Christians we should certainly want to do his will. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Paul reminds us that we are not our own, we were bought at a price. We belong to God, and we are followers of Jesus who always did God's will, even when it meant dying on the cross to save us from our sins So how can we find the will of God for our lives? Much of the answer to this question is to be found in some of the things we've already said. God's will for our life is that we live in obedience to his word, which is a lamp for our feet and a light on our path (Psalm 119:105). And when we're living in obedience to its teaching, we can expect God to guide us with regard to the specific details. This guidance may come through any of the ways we've already talked about, but the Lord may also be guiding us silently by: The trend of circumstances Open and closed doors The gifts and talents he has given us. The trend of circumstances God has a plan for our lives and is constantly working everything out in conformity with the purpose of his will (Ephesians 1:11). He is in complete control of all the circumstances that surround us, even when things appear to be going terribly wrong. After Stephen was stoned in Acts 7 there was a great persecution of Christians, most of whom fled from Jerusalem and were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. Some even travelled as far as Antioch and Cyprus. But as a result there was a revival in Samaria (Acts 8) and a very large church was planted in Antioch (Acts 11:20). Acts 16:6-10 might well be another example: 6 Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. 7 When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to. 8 So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas. 9 During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, "Come over to Macedonia and help us." 10 After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them. In obedience to the great commission and God's call upon his life (Acts 9:15, 26:17-18) Paul is on his second missionary journey. So he is already doing the will of God, but he's unsure of where he should go next. Verse 6 tells us that he was kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia. We're not told how, but it might well have been through the trend of circumstances. Next, Paul tries to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit will not allow him to (v7). Then, in the night, he has a vision of a man from Macedonia saying, Come over to Macedonia and help us and Paul finally knows what he has to do. It seems that guidance possibly came in three different ways – the trend of circumstances (v6), a word from the Spirit (v7), and a vision in the night (v9). But although it's not entirely clear how the Holy Spirit told Paul not to go to Bithynia, what's particularly significant in this passage is that Paul gets the guidance he needs while he's already doing what he knows God has called him to do. This reminds me of Eliezer, Abraham's servant, who in Genesis 24 is sent to look for a wife for Isaac. He makes his way to the town of Nahor and comes to a well just outside the town. He gets his ten camels to kneel down and decides to ask the Lord for a sign. He will ask one of the young women who comes to draw water from the well to give him a drink. But if she's the woman he's looking for, she's to offer to draw water for the camels as well! And, of course, that's what happens! The story is well-known. But notice what Eliezer says in verse 27. The Lord has led me on the journey. Undoubtedly the Lord was leading him throughout his journey, but the specific guidance he needed came well after Eliezer had set out on his journey. In the same way, it's as we get on with the job that God has already given us to do, that we get the guidance we need. Open and closed doors Another thing that results from the fact that God is in complete control of circumstances is that he sometimes directs our steps by opening and closing doors. In Revelation 3:7-8 we read: What he opens no-one can shut, and what he shuts no-one can open… See I have placed before you an open door. In my final year at Oxford I was praying about what my next step should be. I had been studying for a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and my plan was now to go to a Bible College to prepare for the ministry God had called me to. So I applied to London Bible College, fully anticipating that they would accept me for their course leading to the London University Bachelor of Divinity Degree. On the application form, which required me to include a testimony of my Christian experience, I made reference to the baptism in the Holy Spirit. This led to a number of questions at the interview, and it became clear to me that they were suspicious of Pentecostals. So I wasn't entirely surprised when, a few days later, I received a letter saying that they thought I would be happier at a Pentecostal Bible College Although I felt that their decision was unjust, I reminded myself of the injustice that Joseph had experienced at the hands of his brothers and his recognition later that God had intended it for good (Genesis 37 and 45). God, not the college faculty, had shut the door on LBC. So I considered applying to Kenley, the Assemblies of God Bible College, where Donald Gee, a world-renowned Bible teacher, was then the Principal. So I sent off for the application forms. However, people were telling me that I didn't need to go to Bible College. I had been preaching since I was fourteen years old, and the Holy Spirit was already using me in teaching and leading others into the experience of the baptism in the Holy Spirit. In those days Assemblies of God did not require any formal training or qualifications for a person to be recognised as a minister. The evidence of one's calling and gifting was fruit from one's ministry. So what should I do? I decided that I would go to Kenley unless the Lord opened a door for me to minister in a Pentecostal church. But this seemed highly unlikely because, having grown up in a Baptist church, I was relatively unknown among the Pentecostals and the few churches I had preached in were mostly well provided for with regard to ministry. I told no-one about this decision and yet, a week after making it, I received a letter from the small Assemblies of God Church in Colchester, inviting me to take on the pastorate. And, as if to confirm it, the application form for Kenley that I had asked for never arrived. Much more recently, my granddaughter Emily asked me to pray for her as she was considering applying to work for Youth for Christ in Birmingham. At the time she was living in London working full time for Alpha and she was uncertain what to do. I assured her that I would pray for her and reminded her of Revelation 3:7-8. I suggested that it might be a good idea to apply for the job and trust the Lord to close or open the door according to his will. The next day, as Emily was walking in one of the London parks and praying about this, she looked up and saw something she had never seen before – AN OPEN DOOR! It was a piece of modern art, a sculpture of a doorframe with the door within it wide open. The Lord had literally placed before her an open door. Needless to say, she is now working for Youth for Christ in Birmingham. The gifts and talents God has given us Another thing that will help us discern the will of God for our lives is having a realistic understanding of the gifts and talents God has given us. In a passage where Paul mentions some of the gifts God has given to his people, he begins by saying: For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you (Romans 12:3). Here the emphasis is on not having an exaggerated sense of our own importance, but it's just as important to recognise the gifts and abilities God has given us. Humility does not mean pretending that we're no good at things which in fact we are good at! It means gratefully acknowledging that whatever gifts we do have come from the grace of God. When Jeremiah protested that he was unsuited for the task God was calling to, God replied that before Jeremiah was born, he had formed him in his mother's womb (Jeremiah 1:5). Generally speaking, God's will for our lives will be very much in line with the talents he has given us. Those who have heard me sing know very well why I have concluded that it's not God's will for me to be a gospel singer! Having said that, we know that God can equip a person with supernatural gifts beyond any natural talents they may possess. So, in seeking God's will it's good to ask ourselves what natural talents we have along with any spiritual gifts in which he is using us. But finally, the great key to finding the will of God in our lives is found in Romans 12:1-2, where Paul says: Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is – his good, pleasing and perfect will. In these verses Paul shows us how to test what God's perfect will for our lives is. He reminds us of God's love in sending Jesus to die for us and, bearing that in mind, encourages us to live holy, sacrificial lives. We are not to behave as the world behaves or think as the world thinks. We are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We're to learn to think like God thinks! We're to find out what pleases the Lord (Ephesians 5:10). If we are seeking to do this, we won't have to worry about finding the will of God. God is perfectly capable of taking care of his own will! The only person or thing that can prevent God's will being done in my life is me! God is all powerful and, by definition, he wants his will to be done. So as long as I want it to be done, God will make sure that it happens. In short, if we're determined to live all out for Jesus, God will take care of the rest. Sometimes we don't need to know what God's will is, but if we do, he will make it plain. And very often it's as we look back over our lives that we see how God has been guiding us all the time, even at times when his voice is silent.

Grace Church is the perfect name for the now large, multi-site, United Methodist congregation in Southwest Florida that Jorge Acevedo started two decades ago. “Help us be the church for people that nobody sees” has been the church's focus and that is exactly the church they have become. Grace Church is taking the healing ministry of Jesus seriously by bringing together people, places, and processes that make it possible for those who are affected by addiction to heal–and Grace Church is leading the way as one of America's most effective churches in recovery ministries. Jorge shares his own story of how God's saving grace saved him from addiction and offers a rich theology of salvation and formation that is deeply moving and convicting. Do we have the courage as the church to create spaces for people who need help and healing?   In this conversation: Gil Rendle considers what resilience looks like for the church right now (01:01) Jorge shares his story of recovery from addiction and how his experience of God's grace has shaped his ministry (10:27) What is the role of healing in Christian ministry? (14:50) Jorge's conviction that spiritual leaders primarily do three things (18:39) Why Jorge says the “hardest thing for a spiritual leader to lead is themselves” and his wisdom for leading your life well (22:37) Creating a disciple-making culture (29:59) The depth at the heart of innovative ministry (38:09) The one question Jorge asked NT Wright that guides his vision for the church's future (50:53)   QUOTES “Deep within our theology and the early practices of Methodist was this desire to see the goodness and the grace of God penetrate our addictions and our afflictions and compulsive behaviors.” -Jorge Acevedo [12:31] “So we believe that God is at work in every person in every human heart, but do we have the courage to join God in those spaces and in those places and amongst those people who may be very far from God?” -Jorge Acevedo [36:08]   Jorge Acevedo's bio Jorge is the Lead Pastor at Grace Church, a multi-site, United Methodist congregation in Southwest Florida with three campuses.  Jorge is a 1984 graduate of Asbury College where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Bible. At some point in your deconstruction journey, you are probably going to be faced with the question, "Do I stay Christian or do I walk away from this movement altogether?" If that is where you are today, this episode is for you. It's been a minute since Western Christianity has looked anything like Jesus. For the last 1,700 years Christianity has been known more its violence, patriarchy, domination, nationalism, and racism, instead of love and compassion. Christianity jumped the religious tracks a millennia ago. American Christianity is experiencing a rebirth in Christian nationalism, a movement seeking to force its will on the world. It's so bad that many of us no longer even want to be associated with the term Christian. So what's next? Is this movement even worth saving and if so, how do we do it? In this critical episode, Brian McLaren helps us discern the reasons why you should stay Christian as well as a myriad of reasons why you should not stay Christian. But even more important, he ponders what Christianity might look like in the future if those of us in the deconstruction community decide to participate in the recreation and resurrection of a more mystical, ancient form of faith. If you are seriously considering throwing in the spiritual towel, join us for this timely conversation. I think you'll find that Brian offers a way forward through the difficulty and dissonance many of us feel as we navigate this critical question along our faith-seeking journey. BioBrian D. They are a gift from God and they are an opportunity for us to be our very best selves. A child is a person and like any person, they are utterly unique. Therefore, there is no one-size-fits-all kind of solution or method to parenting. It's important to take time to understand your kid, to be present in their lives, practice unconditional love and forgiveness. One of the best things you can do for your family is to ensure that each member in your family has the ability to talk out what they think and how they feel or how someone has hurt them. This will allow each one to forgive, love, and move on. How we treat our children either add to their ability to thrive or flourish or they add to their inability to see themselves better. How do you wake them up? What do you say to them? What do you allow them to say to themselves? Be your children's first encourager. "The important thing for family is to recognize that there is no perfect model about who family is or what family looks like but the best thing that we can do is to love them, encourage them, be fully present with them. ." —  Toni Belin Ingram Connect with Toni Belin Ingram:Twitter: https://twitter.com/tlenayebi?lang=en Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/tonibeliningram/ Website: https://tonibeliningram.com/ | https://www.johncmaxwellgroup.com/tonibeliningram LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tonibeliningram/  CONNECT WITH CHABIDAYE:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/chabidaye.ramnath.3Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leadandlift/Website: https://leadandlift.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chabidayejaglalramnath/ Show notes by Podcastologist: Justine TallaAudio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. The others are two works that are part of the Wesleyan Theology Series: the first on The Church and another on The Sacraments. Brent and I have known each other since we were kids growing up in the same church in Seattle and I continue to learn so much from him about the formative nature of worship and the way our theology is not just learned in our heads but developed in us through our bodies.

Welcome to episode thirty-nine of New Creation Conversations. In today's conversation I am joined by a good friend and a wonderful thinker and minister, Dr. Corey MacPherson. Corey has served, for the last seven years, as the Associate University Chaplain and the Protestant Campus Minister at Colgate University. Prior to that Corey served for eight years as Vice President for Spiritual Development and Church Relations at Eastern Nazarene College. Corey, and his wife Edie, have also been church planters, founding the Northshore Church in Stony Brook, NY. Corey has written numerous devotionals as well as articles on preaching and has been a regular contributor to the Huffington Post. Corey earned a Master's Degree in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University, a Master of Divinity Degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Asbury Theological Seminary. Corey and I got to know each other through his ministry at ENC and serving on a lengthy committee assignment together for the denomination. In that time, I grew not only to have great respect for Corey's gifted mind, but also grew to value his wise and discerning heart. I have a great deal of respect for Corey's ministry – especially to college students. And I think he has a lot to teach us about how to minister in a culturally diverse and religiously pluralistic context.

Erika Robinson dispels some myths about Lenormand! In this episode of StaarCast Erika lets us know that Lenormand is more than a fluffy fortune-telling device. Like tarot, Lenormand is a tool of healing and introspection. Uniquely, Lenormand is a system of words. While Erika and Christiana are discussing the depth of Lenormand, they delve into the even deeper topic of shadow work. Can shadow work be done by a nation? Can diviners help create that process? This episode of StaarCast asks some important questions. These questions remind us of the importance of our community, and of our community gatherings, like StaarCon. --- Harlem, NYC raised, and Harvard educated, Erika Hageman Robinson's life has taught her to welcome what is around every corner. While desegregating a private school for girls in 1964 at the age of 8, Erika learned that a good command of language was the best arrow in her quiver to bring adversaries either to her side or to their knees. At Harvard, Erika parlayed her love of words into an A.B. in English Language and Literature. Feeling that she had been called to the Episcopal priesthood, Erika received a Master of Divinity Degree. The Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts was less sure that they were ready for her to be a priest, and that led to yet another 90-degree turn, and stints as Assistant Director of Admissions at Saint Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire, Princeton University, and Columbia University. Around yet another corner were marriage, motherhood, and a thirty-year teaching career. There are turns within turns, and after her husband's death in 2008, Erika discovered that there are also worlds beyond worlds. Now a Reiki Master teacher, Erika is a reader and teacher of Lenormand, whose thirty-six words combine in infinite ways to guide and warn, comfort, and heal. For several years, Erika read at Earth Spirit New Age Center in Red Bank, New Jersey. Currently, she reads several times a month at Monmouth Beach Yoga and Wellness Center in Monmouth Beach, New Jersey, and both teaches and reads via Zoom, phone, and email. Erika has been a speaker at Reader's Studio in New York City, and has been featured at several World Divination Association conferences. Her writing can be found in Cartomancer Magazine, for which she is a regular columnist.
