This week, the government allowed the tribe to bury a tribesman who died in 2021 on the group's ancestral land, ending a drawn-out impasse. Mqondisi Dube reports from the capital, Gaborone

Botswana's new president, President Duma Boko, has promised zero tolerance for graft in his administration. “Tug at my jacket – tell me what needs to be done.”Later today, Botswana's newly-elected president, Duma Boko, will be inaugurated in Gaborone – but he still found time this week for a discussion of his agenda with Africa Daily's Mpho Lakaje. In a wide ranging discussion he talks about signing a new deal with global diamond giant De Beers, how he wants to help people to become entrepreneurs, and why he wants to grant permits to undocumented Zimbabweans to make the system more ‘orderly' and to allow Batswana to acquire more skills. He also argues that politicians need to be more accessible if they are to do their jobs.

President Boko took his oath of office a short while ago during his inauguration ceremony currently taking place at the capital Gaborone. Sometimes, very rarely, a TV show comes along that captures people's imagination. The TV show Yellowstone has grown into a cultural phenomenon. And one of those unknown actors has become one the shows most beloved stars.Denim Richards stars as Colby, a faithful cowboy on the Yellowstone ranch, which is run by rancher John Dutton, aka Kevin Costner. It's an all-American show. So why invite Denim on Limitless Africa? Well, four years ago he decided to make a new life for himself and move from California to Botswana. Now he runs successful production companies in Gaborone and Johannesburg, runs masterclasses for actors all over the continent, and has just been named director for Media, Arts and Culture for the African Union. In episode 282 UNP founder and curator Grant Scott is in his shed reflecting on the power of light, and why more people should attend academic photography conferences. Plus this week, photographer Dillon Marsh takes on the challenge of supplying Grant with an audio file no longer than 5 minutes in length in which he answer's the question ‘What Does Photography Mean to You?' Dillon Marsh is a South African photographer who currently lives in Cape Town, the city of his birth. Surrounded by the breath-taking landscapes of his native country, he developed a deep appreciation for the natural world at an early age. This has inspired his artistic practice, leading him to explore the tenuous relationship between humans and the world we inhabit. The range of subjects he focusses on is varied, from macro photos of seeds that hitch rides using hooks and barbs, to aerial photos of giant patterns ploughed along the desolate west coast of South Africa. His practice has also seen him explore termite mounds in Gaborone, and the snow-covered peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains. However, he is perhaps best known for his series For What It's Worth in which he combines photography and computer-generated elements to examine the impact that the mining industry has had in his home country. Marsh has exhibited his work internationally and is currently working on several new projects that he plans to publish as books. https://dillonmarsh.com Dr. Grant Scott is the founder/curator of United Nations of Photography, a Senior Lecturer and Subject Co-ordinator: Photography at Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, a working photographer, documentary filmmaker, BBC Radio contributor and the author of Professional Photography: The New Global Landscape Explained (Routledge 2014), The Essential Student Guide to Professional Photography (Routledge 2015), New Ways of Seeing: The Democratic Language of Photography (Routledge 2019).

In today's episode, Moeng talks to NPR's Scott Simon about some of the different lessons her protagonists are learning, and how spending time back home in her village after a long time away reopened doors to a rhythm of life she'd almost forgotten about.

Many people across the continent rely on generators when the electricity supply is unreliable in their countries. Blackouts or planned loadshedding have become common in Zimbabwe and South Africa, leaving families without power for hours at a time. But neighbouring Botswana is hoping to change all of that. Botswana Power Corporation – the state owned energy provider – has been working to generate additional power for some time. And the government in Gaborone is hoping to sell it to neighbouring countries. So, could this be a mutually beneficial arrangement for countries in southern Africa? #Africa Daily

Leading up to my first workshop in Gaborone, Botswana, I sat down for the Femme Focused Mid-Morning show radio segment on Gabz FM where radio host, Gaone Lorato Kgaswanyane-Khumomatlhare, celebrates women for their extraordinary contributions to society, remarkable triumphs and unmatched fearlessness. In this episode, I speak a little about my life story and my life's work, and how I continue to overcome life's difficulties growing a business and tending to my mental health. We especially spoke about celebrities and mental health and I offered my opinion on the current state of the industry. We got real comfortable in this episode, I even left with a traditional Setswana name. You don't want to miss this episode! Another day, another obstacle. In this episode, I recap my informational meeting with a member of the clergy at one of the most popular churches in Gaborone, Botswana as I was on a mission to expose my business and get on this church's radar. The stereotypes about Black women have long impacted our emotional well being and ability to overcome life difficulties for far too long, and I understand these women who had to use stereotypes like frightening and threatening as a defense mechanism to protect themselves from people they don't know. Come listen to this thrilling exchange from my point of view. Welcome to Episode #15 of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast! This week, I welcome Bonolo Phaladze onto the show. She is a yoga studio owner and yoga teacher from Botswana. The way that Bonolo describes yoga, as a fairy godmother was such a surprise! But a delight to hear and to listen to her share her thoughts on yoga in Botswana and how yoga makes her feel. As a yoga studio owner of one of the few yoga studios in Botswana, Bonolo describes what it was like for her to find yoga herself, and her journey to find a yoga teacher— it was harder than she expected! Get ready for a fun conversation filled with laughter and creative analogies and metaphors! Yoga in Botswana, here we come! Tell me more about Bonolo Phaladze… Bonolo Phaladze is the founder and lead teacher at Yownn Yoga, a yoga studio based in Gaborone, Botswana. The studio offers yoga retreats in Southern Africa, and yoga classes both in person and online. Bonolo is a Registered Yoga Teacher, RYT200 with Yoga Alliance, she specializes in yoga for beginners primarily because the yoga scene in Botswana is relatively new, and there is a lot of work to be done to introduce more people to yoga. Bonolo's first encounter with yoga was not enthusiastic, it was a doctor's recommendation. In 2013 due to a high risk pregnancy she had no choice but to accede to her doctor's demands to abandon her regular high intensity train for something low impact and gentle like yoga. She was skeptical of yoga, maybe even judgmental, she had never once considered yoga a fitness activity. The first yoga session sparked a curiosity and respect in her that propelled her to keep returning to the mat. What to expect in the Yoga In Botswana episode of the Wild Yoga Tribe Podcast Bonolo kicks off the conversation by revealing how she first came to yoga, as her bio indicates, it wasn't enthusiastically. She first saw people at the gym just lying around on their yoga mats (apparently!) and she judged yoga as something too boring and easy. Now, it is her passion to teach new students what yoga is and what yoga can be. As yoga in Botswana is still not mainstream, the majority of her students are new to the practice. She loves walking alongside her students on their journey of yoga and showing them that it is more than just handstands and headstands. The emotional and mental presence involved in yoga is where the magic lies. While yoga in Botswana may be relatively “unpopular” as its not mainstream yet, Bonolo describes Botswana as an oasis for those seeking peace, and as she jokes “a place to sleep.” Curious about yoga in Botswana?
