Coming off of a season where we didn't get to see the Clash of the Titans in the 100m at The Olympics due to Sha'Carri Richarson's drug suspension, we now prepare for another chance at seeing Sha'Carri Richardson, vs. Jamaican powerhouses Elaine Thompson-Herah and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and go for the crown of Sprint Queen. But who's it gonna be this season? Will it be Jamaican Elaine Thompson-Herah who flirted with the 100m World Record a few times last season? Will it be Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce who's the defending World Champion and coming off of a personal best last season?Or will it be Sha'Carri Richardson who missed her chance at the Major Championship last season but will have her chance again this season on home soil? And what other names could arise?(April 7, 2022)Let's talk about it.LIKE, SHARE AND SUBSCRIBE ON ALL PLATFORMSFull Podcast Episodes - linktr.ee/VoicesofTnFMusic: Clockwork Riddim - Usain Bolt#TrackandField #athletics #shacarri #UVTnF
On this episode, Sarah Curci and Juan Hernandez join the pod to talk about the rise of Track & Field as a sport, and more specifically, how its uptick in popularity nicely coincides with teh arrival of Netflix's latest docuseries, Sprint, which follows Noah Lyles, Gabby Thomas, Fred Kerley, Marcell Jacobs, Sha'Carri Richardson, the Jamaican trio (Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shericka Jackson, and Elaine Thompson-Herah), and many other elite speedsters as they prepare for the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. Collectively buzzing from the highs of 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, we also share some of our favorite moments: celebrating everything from Trinity Rodman's exhilarating OT goal vs. Japan in the quarterfinals, to Mando Duplantis' WR pole vault before a crowd of 80k cheering fans, to the camaraderie of Fiji surfing. We also champion the unexpected flurry of American medal performances in Track & Field during these Olympics: citing Stanford standout Grant Fisher's breakout bronze in the 5000m & 10000m, Cole Hocker & Yared Neguse's thrilling podium finishes in the 1500m, Quincy Hall's mad dash in the 400m, and on and on. We hope ya'll enjoyed the '24 Olympics as much as we did; and if you became overnight diehard fans of all things Athletics like us, you'll not want to miss this episode! Enjoy!

We just wrapped up a jam-packed weekend with track and field taking place in Eugene with the NCAA Championships, Portland for the Portland Track Festival, Rome for the European Championships and New York City for the NYC Grand Prix. NYC GRAND PRIX Lots of action to recap including Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone giving the 400m American record a scare; Noah Lyles clocked a 19.77 into the wind, Eric Holt goes viral after taking 2022 world champion Jake Wightman to the line in the 1500m, Elaine Thompson Herah may be seriously injured after pulling up after the 100m. But the biggest story was 2022 World champion Fred Kerley and his sponsor Asics decided to part ways. Kerley came out onto the track wearing a competitor's product. Kerley did not end up racing after slipping in the blocks twice. He was not disqualified but elected not to race. NCAA Championships From McKenzie Long and Parker Valby to Shane Cohen and Parker Wolfe, we look at some of the collegiate stars who could be poised for a breakthrough to make the U.S. Olympic team in just a few weeks. Jamaican Women have dominated the sprints at the Olympic Games over the past 16 years. Since Beijing 2008, they have won 10 out of 12 possible medals in the 100m dash, including all 4 gold medals. But the "Big 3" names of Jamaican Women's sprinting, Shericka Jackson, Elaine Thompson-Herah and Shell-Ann Fraser-Pryce, have all had slightly slower starts to their seasons than in previous years. The World Indoor Championships in Belgrade Serbia got underway at the beginning of March and it didn't disappoint. There were some great performances, some upsets, a few world records, and of course, it wouldn't be Track & Field if there wasn't some "hot topics" to get us all talking! Did Marcell Jacobs really win the Men's 60m? Was that jump in the Long Jump really a foul? What happened to Swoboda? Will Rojas jump 16m? We also heard Mondo Duplantis broke the World Record - but we didn't get to see it.Overall, the 2022 World Indoor Championships was a good one, BUT we all know the real Track & Field season doesn't really start until athlete's head "outside" and start putting down some early season performances on the outdoor track. And, from the looks of things already, this season is about to be one to remember! Fred Kerley has already run under 10s in the 100m, 20.0 in the 200m, and 44.4 in the 400m!! And this was all BEFORE April!! Why is Elaine Thompson-Herah running 400m....in 56.72? And, where is Tara Davis? Its about to be a very busy summer... Get your popcorn ready! As 2021 comes to a close we look back at what has been an extraordinary year for women in sport. We have each chosen a handful of remarkable performances from a variety of sports, which will always be stand-out achievements, personal bests for the athletes and go down in the history of their sport. There are so many adjectives to describe what women have accomplished this year as the standards continue to improve, and records are continually broken. There is nothing to compare with the guts and determination of these dedicated athletes whose goals may have been achieved this year but new ones will be set for the future. It has been and continues to be a thrill to watch women continue to soar to greater heights in their sports and show what is possible. And just when we think that a record that cannot be broken we see another generation break down barriers, train even harder, take on tougher competition and excel in themselves while showing the world the potential for women in any sport, anywhere in the world.Chris' pick:Team Canada Football Olympic Gold MedalistsMolly Seidel, Olympic Marathon Bronze MedalistCarissa Moore, Olympic Surfing ChampionJessica Fox, Olympic Slalom Canoeing Gold MedalistJamie Chadwick, W Series Motor Racing ChampionTeam GB European Eventing ChampionsRachael Blackmore, Grand National Winner (also Nancy's pick)Emma Raducanu, US Open Tennis Champion (also Nancy's pick)Nancy's pick:Elaine Thompson-Herah, 100m and 200m Olympic ChampionFallon Sherrock, first woman to win a Professional Darts ChampionshipThe Hundred Cricket Opener at The Oval Cricket Ground.Hosts: Chris Stafford & Nancy GillenRecorded: December 21, 2021For more information, links and resources and hundreds more conversations from the world of women's sport including articles, blogs, videos and podcasts visit wispsports.com. We recorded our first in-person podcast at the Prefontaine Classic because of a special program known as Magic Boost. This program is powered by Hayward Magic; in order to increase the diversity of race, gender, events, and age in running media. We talked with two other boosters in the program; Tiara Williams, the owner of @_realtalk on instagram, and Matthew Parker who runs a YouTube Channel known as MJP TV where he covers Track &. Field news. In this episode we talked about our first experiences at a press conference, in the mixed zone, and watching a track meet at new Hayward Field. Plus we discuss some of the biggest results from the Pre Classic like Sha'Carri Richardson, Elaine Thompson-Herah, and Athing Mu.
Justin Gatlin trains with Sha'Carri Richardson under coach Dennis Mitchell and is a polarizing figure in his own right, having served two doping bans during his long career. Since the early 2000s, Gatlin has been a world-class sprinter with a Jamaican rivalry of his own and battled Usain Bolt at several global championships. I caught up with him in the mixed zone at Hayward Field (which is why the audio isn't as clear) to briefly chat about how long he plans to continue going but also what it's like to watch Sha'Carri come up as the next sprints star for the United States. He knows what it's like to be in the media spotlight and public's crosshairs, where Sha'Carri found herself after her last-place finish at the Pre Classic behind the Jamaican sweep of the podium and Elaine Thompson-Herah's 10.54 No. 2 all-time mark.
Sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson's return to the track after not being allowed to compete at the Tokyo Olympics did not go as she had hoped, but she stressed that she's "not done." Richardson finished last in a field of nine runners in the 100 meters and withdrew from the 200 meters at the Prefontaine Classic on Saturday in Eugene, Oregon. Her time of 11.14 seconds in the 100 was well behind winner Elaine Thompson-Herah, the Olympic gold medalist from Jamaica who clocked 10.54 seconds for the second-fastest women's time in history. Tesla CEO Elon Musk on Thursday unveiled a humanoid robot called the Tesla Bot that runs on the same AI used by Tesla's fleet of autonomous vehicles. A functioning version of the robot didn't make an appearance during Musk's reveal, though a slightly bizarre dance by a performer dressed like a Tesla Bot did. The unexpected reveal came at the end of Tesla's AI Day presentation, with Musk providing few details about the slightly creepy, Slenderman-like robot beyond a few PowerPoint slides. The 5-foot-8-inch robot is expected to weigh in at 125 pounds and be built from "lightweight materials," he said. James BestSat, August 21, 2021, 7:53 AM·2 min readPrefontaine Classic: Richardson faces Thompson-Herah in 100m originally appeared on NBC Sports WashingtonThe Tokyo Olympics answered the question of who the fastest woman in the world is. Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica took home three gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay and broke Florence Griffith Joyner's 100m Olympic record in the process. But the one feat she didn't accomplish in Tokyo was beating American Sha'Carri Richardson.Richardson returns to the track Saturday for the first time since the U.S. Olympic Trials in June. The 21-year-old sprinter was left off the U.S. Olympic roster after she tested positive for marijuana and was handed a 30-day suspension by the U.S. Anti Doping Agency.Richardson will race against the three Jamaican women who completed a podium sweep in the 100m event in Tokyo: Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson. Richardson will also run in the 200m alongside Allyson Felix, Gabby Thomas and Jenna Prandini. 2016 200m Olympic gold medalist Dina Asher-Smith of Great Britain will return to the event after she was forced to withdraw from the 200m final in Tokyo due to an injury. Athing Mu will run in the women's 800m event after taking home gold in Tokyo, while Noah Lyles will race against his brother Josephus, 200m silver medalist Kenny Bednarek and 400m hurdles silver medalist Rai Benjamin in the 200m.
A positive drug test cost Sha'Carri Richardson the chance to run for Olympic gold in Tokyo, but the star American sprinter will face the all-Jamaican trio of 100-meter medalists next week at the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon. After finishing first at that distance at the U.S. Olympic trials in June, the 21-year-old Richardson was suspended for a month by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency after testing positive for marijuana, costing her a spot on the U.S. track and field squad.Jamaican sprinters Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson finished in the top three spots, respectively, in the 100 meters in Tokyo – with Thompson-Herah setting an Olympic record with a time of 10.61 seconds.

Naomi Osaka and Simone Biles starred in the main events of these Games. But China and Russia loomed menacingly, and in equal measure. More to the point, though, events to date have seen China and Russia triumph as much as they have seen Osaka and Biles fail. But the way the United States has underperformed will probably be the most enduring story of these Games. This is a fairly detailed account of how it all happened, and what it all means – complete with recitations of real-time comments I posted on news sites like The New York Times and BBC. And, with all due respect to Osaka and Biles, I cover the role other Olympians like Ahmed Hafnaoui of Tunisia, Flora Duffy of Bermuda, Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica, Novak Djokovic of Serbia, and Sydney McClaughlin of the United States, as well as the specter doping, played.
