Olympic Sprinter Maurice Greene joins the show to talk about his Olympic experience
The figure of George Frideric Handel cast a long shadow over musical London in the first half of the eighteenth, condemning many of his contemporaries – fine composers themselves – to long years of obscurity. In Handel's Shadow throws light into forgotten corners and discovers some glittering gems, some of them demanding dazzling vocal fireworks from their performers. Several of these composers set scenes from Classical mythology or Old Testament narratives – but they also explore the underside of the Baroque psyche in one of David's darkest psalms and in a representation of Arcadian madness. The composers in question are Johann Ernst Galliard (1666 or 1687–1747), Jeremiah Clarke (c. 1674–1707 – he of the famous ‘Trumpet Voluntary'), Maurice Greene (1696–1755), the short-lived Elisabetta de Gambarini (1730–65), Henry Carey (c. 1688–1743) and John Blow (1649–1708). The music is performed by Lux et Umbrae, a group founded in 2015 and here making its first recording. It consists of Robert Crowe and Annette Fischer, respectively male and female sopranos (and it's instructive to hear how different the voices are), Julia Nilsen-Savage, cello, Sigrun Richter, lute, and Michael Eberth, harpsichord. This album is broadcast with the permission of Sean Dacy from Rosebrook Media.

Back in May, the UFC returned from a brief hiatus due to the mounting pressures of the COVID-19 pandemic. And the months since UFC 249 have provided a more-or-less non-stop thrill ride of weekly fight cards. There have been highs, there are been lows. New champions have been crowned and former champs have exited the UFC. seemingly for good. Given all that, we’ve got some serious catching up to do. This year has played host to some serious duds and we haven’t had time to talk about any of them. So, we’re kicking off the first half of our 2020 Year-in-Review with a trio of terrible tussles. Starting off with Gian Villante vs. Maurice Greene, then bouncing over to Michel Pereira vs. Diego Sanchez, and wrapping up with Mike Perry vs. Mickey Gall. As always, we’re watching all three of these bouts over on Fight Pass. For those wishing to follow along, Zane will count down the start of each video, so just hit play when you hear go. We had Uriah “Primetime” Hall vs. Anderson “The Spider” Silva going at it in the main event of the UFC VEGAS 12 card. Overall, this 11-bout card saw 4 swift finishes in Rd 1, 2 subs, a total of 6 KO/TKOs, & 3 decisions. Rounding things out, bonuses for putting forth POTN efforts went to Miles Johns, Adrian Yanez, Alexander Hernandez, & Kevin Holland; no FOTN honors tonight. What a wild night full of fights we have to share with you! UFC middleweight veteran Silva, entered the octagon having lost 6 of his last 7 bouts, most recently, a 2-fight loss streak (Israel Adesanya & Jared Cannonier). With a storied history as a former Middleweight Champion, he racked up an unprecedented record for the longest title reign with a 16-fight win streak (2.457 days) between '06 - '13, having defended the belt 11 times while Champ, he now holds a 34-10 record. The 45-yr-old Brazilian-American champion fighting out of Brazil, was pitted up against our opponent, the #10-ranked middleweight: Uriah Hall. Our Jamaican-American combatant, on a 2-fight win streak, holding a 15-9 fight record, entered the octagon a slight underdog. The 36-year-old brawler had a 2" height deficit and a 2" reach advantage going for him in his efforts to defeat Silva tonight. Also on the card, a featherweight scrap for our co-main event; it was a battle between the up-n-comer Bryce ‘Thug Nasty’ Mitchell, who entered the octagon a moderate favorite with his 5-fight win streak, boasting an undefeated 12-0 record at just 26 yrs of age; taking on a solid competitor in Andre ‘Touchy’ Fili, with a 21-6 fight record at 30 yrs of age, coming at this bout having won 3 of his last 4 outings. As if that’s not enough, we also had an exciting heavyweight tilt between Greg ‘The Prince of War’ Hardy, who faced off against Maurice ‘The Crochet Boss’ Greene - which was preceded by a fully-packed undercard; Join us to discuss all the action... Zane Simon & Connor Ruebusch are back with the MMA Vivisection PRELIMS SHOW, breaking down a set of seven bouts on the UFC VEGAS 12: HALL vs. SILVA Preliminary Card. Sign up for ESPN+ and watch UFC VEGAS 12: ‘HALL VS. SILVA’ - #UFCAPEX — Oct. 31st., 2020 at: http://go.web.plus.espn.com/c/482924/566982/9070?sharedid=BloodyElbow After a huge PPV like UFC 254, the UFC is cooling things down a bit with this week’s Fight Night offering. The promotion is back in Vegas for a fight card that has a couple highlights, but mostly just feels like a grab-bag of whoever was around and interested in fighting on the date. The main event, Anderson Silva vs. Uriah Hall, feels like a bout that was supposed to go down in much different circumstances than Silva coming off his 3rd two-fight losing skid in the last seven years. The co-main, between Andre Fili and Bryce Mitchell is a legitimately awesome action contest, and the card is otherwise carried by Kevin Holland and Bobby Green once again making quick turnarounds. For those fans who wish to dive deeper into the MAIN CARD, check out that version of the MMA Vivi airing at 2pm Central today, Thurs., October 29th., 2020, right here on our SC channel. Zane Simon & Connor Ruebusch are back with the MMA Vivisection MAIN CARD SHOW, breaking down a set of five bouts on the UFC VEGAS 12: HALL vs. SILVA Main Card. For those fans who wish to dive deeper into the PRELIMS CARD, check out that version of the MMA Vivi that aired at 1pm Central today, Thurs., October 29th., 2020, right here on our SC channel. The MMA Vivisection is brought to you by Combat Wombat, makers of combat sports themed artwork featuring MMA’s legendary fighters and legendary fights. UFC on ESPN+ 39 brings October to a close and this Halloween card definitely has some monster action! Three fights that standout are Greg Hardy vs Maurice Greene, two heavyweights, both with something to prove! The Co-main is going to be something special, Bryce Mitchell vs Andre Fili. What better opponent could there be than Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone? He will be entering the octagon tonight fighting out of Albequerque, New Mexico’s BMF Ranch, with a legendary 36-13 fight record; meanwhile, Conor hasn’t had a bout since October 6, 2018, when he lost via Sub-Rear-Naked Choke at 3:03 of Round 4 against the infamous Khabib ‘The Eagle’ Nurmagomedov, after having been defeated in a Boxing Bout by Floyd Mayweather, Jr. via KO/TKO at 1:05 of Round 10 the previous year, so the last time he actually won a bout in the UFC was against Eddie Alvarez back in November, 2016. Also on the card, is a women’s Bantamweight Co-Main Event, with the #8 ranked ‘Preachers Daughter’ Holly Holm coming off a swift loss to Amanda Nunes on July 6, 2019, she will be going up against #5 ranked ‘Rocky’ Raquel Pennington, who is coming off a win against Irene Aldana back in July, 20, 2019; rounding things out, we will also be treated to another women’s bout in the Prelims Featured Fight between up-and-comer Maycee Barber and the veteran, Bloody Elbow’s own, Roxanne Modafferi... what a night of fights we have to look forward to! Zane Simon & Eddie Mercado are here to breakdown UFC 246 with hot takes, possible next fights, as well as reactions to the overall event. This Saturday’s, Jan. 18th., UFC 246 PPV event, from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, showcased the return of Conor McGregor at UFC 246 in the Main Event. What better opponent could there have been at this point in time, than Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone? He entered the octagon tonight fighting out of Albequerque, New Mexico’s BMF Ranch, with a legendary 36-13 fight record; meanwhile, Conor hadn’t had a bout since October 6, 2018, when he lost via Sub-Rear-Naked Choke at 3:03 of Round 4 against the infamous Khabib ‘The Eagle’ Nurmagomedov, after having been defeated in a Boxing Bout by Floyd Mayweather, Jr. via KO/TKO at 1:05 of Round 10 the previous year, so the last time he actually won a bout in the UFC was against Eddie Alvarez back in November, 2016 - did any of that matter? Nope. The Notorious Conor decimated Cowboy in a shocking forty second defeat via KO/TKO-Head Kick and Punches in the first Round, throwing shoulders like crazy, Cowboy didn’t even know what hit him, it was just over. Also on the card, was a women’s Bantamweight Co-Main Event, with the #8 ranked ‘Preachers Daughter’ Holly Holm coming off a swift loss to Amanda Nunes on July 6, 2019, she went up against #5 ranked ‘Rocky’ Raquel Pennington, who was coming off a win against Irene Aldana back in July, 20, 2019 - Holly was determined to come away with a win and she managed a Unanimous Decision in what many called a boring fight; rounding things out, we were also treated to another women’s bout in the Prelims Featured Fight between up-and-comer Maycee ‘The Future’ Barber and the veteran, Bloody Elbow’s own, Roxanne ‘The Happy Warrior’ Modafferi... the underdog Roxy completely destroyed Barber, who was a gracious loser on the mic.... what a night of fights we have to discuss with you! The UFC 246 PPV is a bit of a mixed bag. More than anything Conor McGregor’s presence is casting a wide shadow. In part, his 2019 has brought a series of legal troubles with it. And subsequently, it kind of feels like this main card is just a way for the UFC to try and lever one of their biggest stars back into the mainstream as an athlete, rather than a PR liability. Donald Cerrone is exactly the right amount of notable, dangerous, and great stylistic matchup to get McGregor a meaningful victory to start out the year. And the rest of the main card is largely built around the idea that fans are already showing up to watch McGregor, so what’s under him doesn’t have to be that meaningful. That said, the prelims are honestly pretty fun.
