Spring Cleaning – Pittsburgh PenguinsThe Pittsburgh Penguins entered the 2025-26 season with low expectations, an unproven head coach, and widespread speculation that the franchise might finally begin dismantling its aging core. Instead, rookie head coach Dan Muse engineered one of the NHL's biggest surprises, guiding Pittsburgh to a second-place finish in the Metropolitan Division before a first-round loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. Neil Smith and Vic Morren revisit how badly they underestimated the Penguins, the remarkable resurgence of Erik Karlsson, and the difficult offseason decisions now facing General Manager Kyle Dubas.IN THIS EPISODE:[00:00:00] The Penguins finish second in the Metropolitan Division before being eliminated by Philadelphia in the opening round. Neil and Vic revisit the extremely low expectations surrounding Pittsburgh entering the season under first-year head coach Dan Muse.[00:00:40] Questions existed about whether Sidney Crosby would remain with the team through the trade deadline, whether Erik Karlsson would be dealt, and whether the collection of veteran depth additions could keep Pittsburgh competitive.[00:01:00] Dan Muse exceeds every expectation and quickly gets the roster to buy into his system. Pittsburgh becomes a more difficult, responsible, and consistent team than it had been the previous season.[00:01:20] Erik Karlsson's transformation becomes one of Muse's greatest accomplishments. After a disastrous 2024-25 campaign, Karlsson plays responsibly at both ends of the ice and reestablishes himself as a major contributor.[00:01:45] Neil and Vic admit they completely misjudged the Penguins during their preseason analysis. Muse becomes a Jack Adams Award finalist after leading a team expected to miss the playoffs to one of the strongest records in the Metropolitan Division.[00:02:00] Pittsburgh improves dramatically on offense, increasing its goal total from 243 to 293. The club's goal differential rises by 75 goals, moving from minus-50 to plus-25.[00:02:20] The Penguins receive scoring throughout the lineup, with 12 players reaching double digits in goals and five surpassing 20. Anthony Mantha delivers a career-best season after signing a one-year contract.[00:02:45] Yegor Chinakhov scores 21 goals after arriving from Columbus, while Justin Brazeau, Connor Dewar, Tommy Novak, and Noel Acciari all contribute career-best or near-career-best production.[00:03:00] Karlsson improves from 53 points and a minus-24 rating to 66 points and a plus-eight. Rookie Ben Kindel also makes an immediate impact with 17 goals and 35 points in 77 games.[00:03:30] The coaching comparison becomes impossible to ignore. Mike Sullivan leaves Pittsburgh for the New York Rangers, while Muse departs the Rangers' staff and immediately delivers a far more successful season with the Penguins.[00:04:00] Pittsburgh also makes major defensive progress. Its goals-against average drops from 3.46 to 3.09, supported by improved structure and a productive overhaul in goal.[00:04:20] The trade sending Tristan Jarry to Edmonton for Stuart Skinner and Brett Kulak becomes one of the season's most successful moves. Pittsburgh escapes Jarry's long-term contract while adding a more dependable starting goaltender.[00:04:45] Kulak is later moved to Colorado for Samuel Girard, giving the Penguins another useful defenseman. Artūrs Šilovs also provides reliable goaltending depth behind Skinner.[00:05:30] Neil explains why the season felt almost like a championship for Pittsburgh when compared to the expectations entering the year. Nearly every major move worked, and several veterans delivered unexpected career seasons.[00:06:00] The offseason presents a complicated challenge for Kyle Dubas. Pittsburgh enters the 2026 NHL Draft with five selections, including two second-round picks, but no choices in the fourth, fifth, or seventh rounds.[00:06:30] The Penguins project to have approximately $10.2 million in salary-cap space before the July 1 reset. Their unrestricted free agents include Evgeni Malkin, Kevin Hayes, Anthony Mantha, Noel Acciari, Connor Dewar, Connor Clifton, Ryan Shea, Ilya Solovyov, and Stuart Skinner.[00:07:00] Restricted free agents Yegor Chinakhov and Artūrs Šilovs also need new contracts. Neil expects a busy summer with the possibility of significant turnover if Dubas cannot retain several of the players who helped drive this year's success.[00:07:20] Malkin wants to return, and Crosby has publicly expressed support for keeping his longtime teammate. Mantha's career year creates a more difficult decision because another team may offer him a larger contract in free agency.[00:08:00] The Penguins' unique challenge is that they are still building around one of the NHL's oldest cores. Malkin turns 40, Crosby turns 39, Kris Letang is already 39, Erik Karlsson turns 36, and Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell are also well into their 30s.[00:08:40] Neil and Vic compare Pittsburgh's position to the previous season's Washington Capitals. Washington received career years from multiple veterans before injuries and regression caused the team to miss the playoffs one year later.[00:09:00] The Penguins could face the same danger if their older stars decline and the supporting players cannot repeat their career seasons. Pittsburgh must continue adding younger talent rather than assuming this year's formula will work again.[00:09:30] Dan Muse receives enormous credit for creating belief, accountability, and structure throughout the lineup. His ability to get the players to buy into his approach becomes the defining reason behind Pittsburgh's unexpected success.[00:10:00] The episode concludes with Neil and Vic admitting their preseason prediction was completely wrong. The Penguins earn an A-plus for the season, but sustaining that success will require a smart, aggressive, and carefully managed offseason.

YouTube Trev is locking arms with former NHL netminder Joaquin Gage for a full hour of unadulterated, raw hockey talk to sift through the volcanic ash of yesterday's open market madness.   On Today's Show: Canada Day Post-Mortem: Before the boys open up the hockey notebooks, they look back at a beautiful July 1st holiday. Trev and Gager recap how they spent their Canada Days around town, and swap a few quick stories from the backyard barbecues. The Stan Bowman Roster Overhaul: The Oilers didn't just participate in Free Agent Frenzy—they completely controlled the news cycle. The fellas dedicate a massive chunk of today's broadcast to analyzing an unbelievable string of transactions. We break down the historic departure of Darnell Nurse to San Jose, the blue line additions of Shakir Mukhamadullin, Zack Sharp, and Ryan Shea, and internal extensions for Kasperi Kapanen and Max Jones. The New Look Crease: As a former netminder, Gager gets right into the tape of Edmonton's brand-new goaltending structure. Stan Bowman executed a complete paradigm shift by trading for Devon Levi from Buffalo and signing freshly minted Stanley Cup champion Frederik Andersen to a one-year deal. The boys evaluate how this new look impacts the returning Tristan Jarry and what the vision is for the net going forward. Grading the Blueprint: It's report card time. Trev and Gager stack up all the additions, calculate the massive cap space saved by moving Nurse's contract without retaining a single dollar, and issue their definitive, official grades for Stan Bowman's first major free-agency floor plan. League-Wide Fallout: Once local business is settled, the guys pull out the macro-lens to trace the heavy cash spent across the rest of the league. From Toronto landing Sergei Bobrovsky to John Carlson heading to Tampa Bay and ex-Oilers like Stuart Skinner hitting the market!   2 Guys & a Goalie is presented by GS Construction!

Perhaps even more impressive, Stan Bowman was able to move the entire contract without retaining any salary. Tyler and Liam will break down the trade from every angle, discuss what Mukhamadullin brings to the Oilers, and debate whether this could end up being one of the biggest moves of Bowman's tenure. But the work didn't stop there.Bowman stayed busy throughout free agency by signing veteran defenceman Ryan Shea, bringing back Kasperi Kapanen, adding experienced goaltender Frederik Andersen, veteran fan favourite Max Jones, and acquiring young netminder Devon Levi from the Buffalo Sabres. Despite all of the activity, the Oilers still managed to maintain valuable cap flexibility heading into the rest of the offseason. The boys will evaluate each move and discuss how Edmonton's roster stacks up after an incredibly active opening day of free agency.Later in the show, DJ Bean from What Chaos! joins the program to give his thoughts on the Oilers' offseason makeover, Stan Bowman's aggressive approach, and whether Edmonton may have been one of the biggest winners of July 1st across the entire NHL.

For this episode of the podcast I spoke with Craig Holdrege and Ryan Shea of the Nature Institute in Ghent, New York about the theory and practice of a very different way of doing science, informed and inspired by the work of the great German poet, scientist, and statesman, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. In contrast to the reductionist paradigm of science as it is often practiced elsewhere today, the Goethean approach seeks a perspective on nature characterized by wholeness and interconnection through a sensitive and self-aware methodology in which the relationships between the phenomena and the observer are not forgotten. Craig was a visiting instructor at Thoreau College in 2020 and we are very excited to welcome Ryan to Wisconsin as guest instructor this coming spring during our Spring 2025 Metamorphosis Gap Semester.Craig Holdrege is the Nature Institute's director and spearheaded its founding in 1998. His passion is to develop what Goethe called “delicate empiricism” — an approach that learns from nature how to understand nature and is infused with a cautious and critical awareness of how intentions and habits of mind affect human understanding. Craig carries out studies of animals and plants that tell the story of these organisms as dynamic and integrated beings within the larger web of life. He has written many articles and books, including Seeing the Animal Whole—And Why It Matters, Do Frogs Come from Tadpoles? and Thinking Like a Plant. Before co-founding The Nature Institute, Craig was a high school biology teacher in Waldorf Schools, working in Germany for 12 years and then in the U.S. for nine years. Since the early 1990s, Craig has been involved in teacher training. Craig has a Ph.D. in sustainability education from Prescott College in Arizona. He completed a Masters-level, non-degree program in phenomenological science at the Science Research Laboratory at the Goetheanum, Switzerland, and has a B.A. in philosophy from Beloit College.Ryan Shea taught at Providence College for eight years, including courses in philosophy of science, environmental philosophy, and nature writing. He has B.A. and M.A. degrees in philosophy. He brings to his work at The Nature Institute a broad knowledge of ancient philosophical biology (especially Aristotle), the scientific revolution, phenomenology, German idealism, and Goethean qualitative science. Ryan has been interested in Goethean Science since he was a teenager. He began working part-time for The Nature Institute in spring 2023 and is full-time as of September 2024. He is excited to now have the opportunity to develop Goethean practice through research and teaching. He is interested in pursuing the nature of metamorphosis in different realms of the living world, and what it means to read the “book of nature.” Nature Institute: https://www.natureinstitute.org/Metamorphosis Gap Semester - Spring 2025 - https://thoreaucollege.org/metamorphosis-spring/

Join us, Megan and Wendy, long-time Hallmark enthusiasts, as we dive into the world of Jane and her mysteries. What We Liked The Cast's Performances: Stephen Huszar as Detective John Cameron: Stephen brought a serious and business-like demeanor to his role, which suited the mystery genre better than his previous romantic leads. Jodie Sweetin as Jane DaSilva: Although we were not always convinced by her performance, she definitely found a niche in this series. We appreciated seeing her take on a more dramatic role. Paris Jefferson as Aunt Sadie: We absolutely loved Aunt Sadie's wardrobe and her quirky lines that gave the movie some light-hearted moments. The Initial Plot: The introduction of the suspects and the murder board added an intriguing layer to the mystery. The breakdown of their motives and the visual representation on the murder board was highly engaging. Jodi Sweetin's Singing: We were delightfully surprised by her singing voice, featured in both the opening and end credits of the movie. What We Wished For Character Development for Detective John: We felt that John needed more depth. Whether it's a friend, a brother, or another coworker,

Another week without hockey...unless you are listening to us here at the Two Man Forecheck.  This week we talk about the wave of college entry level and free agent signings taking place, and one player who chose not to sign with the team that drafted him.  Ryan Shea has chosen not to sign with Chicago, making him a free agent.  No reason given for the choice, so we talk about it and potential landing spots for the young man.  Hobey Baker is down to three finalists, one forward, one defenseman and a goaltender.  We talk about who has the best chance to win the award.  Also, the Mike Richter award has its five finalists, and this year's group is about the tightest in terms of skill level that we've seen in awhile.  We break down the Sabres collapse and what they need to turn it around.  Seth Jones is skating again, and the source is probably a good one.  We discuss the story of K'Andre Miller, Rangers prospect who was conducting a video chat on zoom when someone "individual" decided it was a good time to throw some racial slurs around.  Finally, we  digest the possibility of a 31 team playoff in the NHL, something that P.K. Subban is apparently in favor of taking place!  All this and so much more!  give us a listen and send us your comments.  Stay safe, stay healthy, wash your hands and...Enjoy the Show!

What is Lolli? More coverage from the Bitcoin2019 conference. This time with CEO and Co-Founder of Lolli, Alex Adelman. Lolli is a rewards app that pays you in Bitcoin. Purchase things as you normally would, but instead of proceeding to checkout, use the Lolli browser extension. This enables the user to earn a percentage back on their purchase, which can be redeemed in Bitcoin.   Lolli's goal is to onboard as many people into the Bitcoinsphere as possible. They believe most people are more likely to earn bitcoin rewards rather than bitcoin through investing or mining. Lolli just pops up when you're on a partner's website letting you know how much bitcoin you can earn. They want to make it as easy for possible. How does it work? The magic happens in the background. The retailer pays Lolli  in dollars for sending paying customers to their site. Then Lolli transfers bitcoin to your Lolli Wallet. It is a custodial solution, but the amounts are usually so small that the user risk is limited.   "The biggest challenge Bitcoin has is educating people what money is." Alex Adelman At first, Lolli plans only allow redemption of earnings. In the future, they plan to allow their users to purchase crypto through the Lolli platform. This will give them ability to also transfer funds to each other. Of course, Alex knows this path is very arduous, but is an important piece to their future success. For 40% of all their users, Lolli is the only crypto brand they are connected to. This means they must add functionality for those users to keep them engaged. Eventually, you will be able to buy, sell and send your crypto to anyone within the Lolli ecosystem.  "If Bitcoin is the bank of the future, where's the lollipop at the end?" -Alex Adelman Alex's background is quite fascinating. He grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina where his father was a psychologist turned banker. He saw first hand the issues with banks and financial institutions. In fact, that's where the name Lolli came from. In his younger days, he would have to go to the bank with his father. The only thing that helped with that dreadful experience for Alex was the lollipop at the end. When he transitioned from developing for fun to doing it as a side business he ran into numerous issues. As you may expect, a 16 year old has trouble opening Bank accounts, Paypal or other payment channels. His curiosity led him to ask questions about why middlemen are needed and aren't there more efficient way to transact? In college he studied economics, both micro and macro. This helped give him insight to his questions and build solutions.  His first venture after college was a company called Cosmic, a universal card as a service. It was a grandiose vision to allow people to transact with anyone, anywhere in the world. Alex felt a gateway like this was needed badly.  Cosmic was acquired by Pop Sugar to power ShopStyle. After growing 10X post acquisition, Ebates came in and bought both them and ShopStyle. Ebates is the largest cash back company in the US. That helped them form retailer relationships, which has sped up Lolli's on boarding.  During this time he had been learning about Bitcoin. After about a year with Ebates, he parted ways and decided he wanted to work in the crypto industry. He felt the solution in Bitcoin that hadn't been solved yet was distribution.  He knew with his background, determination to changing the world, and the timing of Bitcoin, he had hit the trifecta with Lolli. During this episode, Alex Adelman explains: How he learned about Bitcoin from Ryan Shea. Where does Alex's motivation come from? What happens to user sentiment when price goes down? His pivotal moment about how the world was not a fair place. His views communication and commerce. What would he would change in the crypto and blockchain industry.   Further Reading and Resources Alex Adelman | LinkedIn | Twitter   Lolli |Website | Twitter | LinkedIn

Condominiums are one of the most untapped niches in real estate, but they offer so much opportunity. What are the unique attributes they have, and how do these qualities make them more attractive? How can we tap into them to build wealth? How can we start manifesting better results, even in a slow market? On this episode, agent and author Ryan Shea shares how we can become smart buyers with condominiums.    For a lot of people, buying a condominium is a good play because you’re going to buy it at a lower value than a single family home. -Ryan Shea   Special Webinar Event:"The Future of Real Estate" Join Dr Hank as he shares with you a new real estate business model and technology that is revolutionizing the real estate industry for both Agents and Brokers. This is an introduction to EXP Realty and how You will be able to now enjoy three streams of income that builds your business and provides a Lifetime and Legacy of passive income and cash flow for You and your family! Register HERE!   3 Things We Learned From This Episode How we create our own results Our belief about the market is what will manifest in the results we get. If we tell ourselves we’re in a bad market, that’s what our results will reflect. If we say a certain period is slow, that what we’ll see. Any market can be a good market, we just have to look for the opportunities in it. How to define condominiums There are quite a number of different condominium types. There are high-rise condos which are 5 stories or more, and standard condos which are 1 or 2 stories. There are townhomes, as well as townhome condominiums in which you don’t own the land underneath the property.   The common misconceptions about condos Condos can cost a lot less than single family homes and still give you the feeling of community and peace of mind. You also don’t have to worry about things like yard maintenance or parking. On top of that, they usually have great views and great features so you get a lot more for a lot less.   There’s a huge misconception that condos are only for empty nesters. The buyers and real estate agents specializing in them are reaping massive benefits. Nowadays they are extremely attractive pieces of property that provide many benefits. They offer a turnkey lifestyle where we don’t have to worry about yards. They take the stress out of parking, and they even offer a close-knit community that can rival single family homes. Whether you want to live in them or lease them, condos are definitely something worth thinking about.   Guest Bio- Ryan is currently a Realtor in Dallas, TX and has been for the past 9 years. On today's show, we just had to start with crypto price bloodbath January has brought. Simon and Colin dissect rumours of centralised exchanges being banned in China & South Korea, as winter comes (http://uk.businessinsider.com/bitcoin-ethereum-ripple-cryptocurrency-prices-fall-on-january-16-2018-1) for crypto markets. Next, Mike Novagratz makes a '$400m bet' (https://fintechinsidernews.com/posts/vWNJsEPpqodBkquKu/michael-novogratz-usd400-million-bet-form-giant-crypto) attempting to form a giant crypto merchant bank. Novagratz (who went big on both Bitcoin & Ethereum early) had plans for a crypto hedge fund which were cancelled in the past, so it remains to be seen what happens with this project. Vitalik Buterin (https://fintechinsidernews.com/posts/CRoY4Fevje8hj2jxY/ethereum-co-founder-vitalik-buterin-has-left-vc-firm), Ethereum founder, is another blockchain personality in the news today, who left VC firm Fenbushi Capital. Drama is never far from the cryptocurrency ecosystem and Tron (https://fintechinsidernews.com/posts/ZbXT9tbr32m73J6jz/tron-s-whitepaper-is-copied-plagiarized), a Chinese crypto project has been accused of plagiarism with regards to their whitepaper. Translation issue? Or is there more in this story? ICO's were most certainly hot in 2017 and chat app Telegram (https://fintechinsidernews.com/posts/JFFhz3n7tYzBCxpzA/telegram-plans-multi-billion-dollar-ico-for-chat) hopes to raise up to $1.2 billion in an ICO. How will ICO's develop in 2018? The explore what could happen with that regard, but it seems initial coin offerings will still be a prevalent in 2018. Kraking on, Kraken (https://fintechinsidernews.com/posts/FbMDPMNxjun52hy2t/kraken-exchange-is-back-online-after-troublesome-system), the world's 5th largest cryptocurrency exchange is back after a troublesome upgrade. Many speculated that some of the upgrades were un-professional with fears surfacing that some money could be lost. Sticking with exchanges, we discuss Binance (https://fintechinsidernews.com/posts/p2gGhyvxTKeMxBnd3/binance-the-fastest-profitable-unicorn-in-history)-the fastest growing 'unicorn' in the crypto-currency world which has now surpassed a $1 billion valuation less than 6 months after launching. Truly extraordinary! Last but not least, we bring you interviews with two Ryan's! We were spoilt today as Ryan Shea came on the show to discuss Blockstack, a new internet for decentralized apps. The second Ryan, Ryan Selkis- came on to discuss his interesting blog titled 'I see You XRP' discussing all things Ripple, XRP and what's happening in the markets. We hope you enjoy the show and, as ever, don't forget to subscribe. Want to join the conversation on all the topics discussed? Tweet the show @bchaininsider and if you really love the show, why not leave us a review on iTunes? Special Guests: Ryan Selkis and Ryan Shea.

In this keynote fireside chat with Erik Voorhees at Denver Startup Week, we “get philosophical” and dive into the societal and political implications of blockchain. This interview was inspired by Ryan Shea’s interview of Naval Ravikant. It’s also the first in a series of philosophical podcast interviews with blockchain philosophers like Albert Wenger and Trent McConaghy (plus leaders in the effective altruist/rationalist community!). A brilliant fact about crypto-economic blockchains is that they enable the construction of naming systems that transcend limits imposed by Zooko’s triangle. Traditional naming systems such as human names, Domain Name System (DNS) and Facebook profile names are subject to Zooko’s triangle and cannot be secure, human memorable and decentralised at once. For instance human names such as Meher Roy are human-memorable and decentralised but not secure (nothing prevents hundreds of people being called Meher Roy). Domain Names like are secure and human-memorable but require a central authority to hand out names. OneName leverages Bitcoin to build a Global Identification system called blockchain ID. Blockchain IDs for users can be associated with real world identity data such as social media profiles, government issued papers etc. In this episode we converse with Ryan Shea and Muneeb Ali, co-founders and leaders of OneName, Blockstore and BlockStack. They explain the rationale and vision behind their push for a Global Decentralised Identification and Verification system. Topics covered in this episode: Zooko’s triangle and how Bitcoin breaks the triangle The general idea behind blockchain ID, how it works and its component transactions Why OneName migrated their blockchain ID system from the Namecoin to the Bitcoin blockchain Technical design of Blockstore and how it enables decentralised storage and association of large datasets to blockchain IDs Vision and use cases for Decentralised Identity, authentication and identity verification. The notion of Probabilistic Identity Episode links: Intentional Naming System Zooko's triangle Why Onename is Migrating to the Bitcoin Blockchain Blockchain ID Organization of Schemas Blockstack BlockStore This episode is hosted by Meher Roy and Sébastien Couture. MEB. IS. HERE!!!!!!!!  Meb is one of the nicest, most inspiring guys you will ever meet. Everything that's said about his being such a sweetie is TRUE!!!!! Meb will make you be even more proud to be American (that is if you are an American) and to work even harder to achieve your running, health, and life goals. If you want to learn the "11 Strategies to Live the Running Lifestyle" (many of which Meb discusses during the interview), head over to therunninglifestyle.com/join. Meb and I discuss (boy do I like saying that!!!!!) the following: The VERY hard road he and his family took to come to the United States The not-great childhood memories he has and how he has used those memories to help him work hard for years and years to create a long, phenomenal running career You can learn more about his tough childhood in Run to Overcome What his second book, Meb for Mortals, discusses and how you can apply it to your own life and running journey How sports grew his self esteem and helped him make friends What you need to do to execute the best plan The highs and lows he has been through as a runner What he did with his wife when his friend Ryan Shea had died and his injury made it so he could barely stand up His favorite indulgence for his sweet tooth and how he watches his weight to be able to perform at peak performance What he believes is the key to success What he did after not qualifying for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing Why Meb attributes his success to hard work and mindset Why it's sweeter to come back and win after you've been injured One of his most memorable NYC Marathon finishes A snapshot of the NYC Marathon course and what to look forward to if you get to run it What the MEB Foundation is and stands for The perks of running with Meb for the Meb Foundation in NYC and Boston The importance of being mentally and physically healthy When his next marathon is What his future plans are How a product named ElliptiGo , which was thankfully created in 2012, has extended his career Why the ElliptiGo is so much fun, how he uses it, and what it allows him able to enjoy When he puts the hammer down on the ElliptiGo Next week, Meb and I (it is such an honor to say that) discuss more in depth about his training on the ElliptiGo, when and how he uses CEP compression socks, how he develops his own shoes with the designers from Sketchers, an in-depth discussion of his win at the 2014 Boston Marathon and how he did it, one of his favorite running community memories, if he is going to run a fall marathon, his plans for the Olympic trials and then hopefully the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, how to support other runners, and what are the keys to success for runners (and really anyone for that matter). Our runner of the week is Chris Brogan, a business owner who uses running as a way to challenge himself and lead a healthier lifestyle. Chris specifically discusses: Being a Runner at 300+ pounds The surprising challenge he incurred at his one and only marathon and how he overcame it Why he has cut his mileage back What he enjoys about Spartan Races How Keep.Google.com helps him keep track of affirmations and the training that goes along with reaching his goals Mark Rippitoe and strength training for runners How Mark trains on the road Why he isn't doing anything into the ground anymore Why you "have to play to win" Why to commit How he is going for a six pack instead of a keg Our Go-to Real Food Dietitian, Serena Marie, RD, dives in deep about why to eat a nutrient-dense diet and specifically addresses: Why to choose a nutrient-dense diet instead of a fat adapted diet The simple carbs Serena recommends for performance such as raw honey, rice cakes and raisins Why use fat for fuel Why males and women with conditions such as PCOS can do well on a high-fat diet How to train for a high-fat diet 7-10 days before a race Why less than 100 g of carbs can wreak havoc on the body What are great sources of fat and sugar for a race which includes Coconut Manna placed in small plastic bags, honey stingers (caffeinated gel, not wafers), Jason's nut butters, plantains in palm oil, honey roasted nuts (this has worked for me in the past), and sushi rice with bacon or coconut oil with honey Why Serena recommends Strong & Kind bars over Kind bars (we especially like the Thai Sweet Chili Flavor) How to read a nutrition label on fuel bars If you do better with liquids, have home made bone broth with coconut water and honey Why we're big fans of ENERGYbits, how it helps prevent sugar lows, the nitric oxide in the bits which helps with fatigue, and how to use the before, during and after the run A Plan B to ENERGYbits, which doesn't have nitric oxide to help prevent fatigue is Great Lakes Collagen You can check out Serena's blog post about today's episode HERE. As requested, Serena and I discuss how our training for the Chicago and NYC Marathons is coming along.
