It's a case study in how love, anger, and performance collide until nobody knows where the act ends and the damage begins. Using the Masha Slamovich–Akira situation as a lens, we break down the patterns that trap people in toxic cycles—both in relationships and in industries that profit from chaos.Big Idea 1: The Cycle of Toxic LoveRelationships don't start toxic—they start with care, attention, and the promise that someone sees you. But when affection escalates into humiliation, apology, and repetition, love itself becomes a weapon.Affection That Feels Safe at First: “Because I care about you.” What should be comfort becomes a plea: please don't hurt me again.Words as Weapons: “Now you can love the memory of me.” Poetry as a tether, keeping a victim tied to pain.Devotion Turned Against You: “Once again, my love doesn't come with an asterisk.” Unconditional love can become leverage.Identity Attacks: “You're femme as f* and I'm not gay.” Humiliation disguised as honesty cuts deeper than fists.Big Idea 2: Abuse Isn't Always PhysicalNot all damage leaves a bruise. Emotional abuse can linger for years and is often invisible.Invisible Scars: Words like “you'll never be enough” echo long after a busted lip heals.Silence Feeds the Cycle: Unsounded protests allow the pattern to repeat.Love as a Trap: Staying out of hope that love will “win” can keep someone trapped.Abuse Has No Gender: Men can be victims. Women can be abusers. No stereotype protects anyone.Big Idea 3: Wrestling Culture Makes It WorseThis is bigger than two people. Wrestling rewards chaos and blurs lines between performance and personal boundaries.Brutal Schedules and Frayed Tempers: Exhaustion makes patience harder, and abuse more likely.“Work the Gimmick” = Blur the Line: Selling intimacy as a job makes it easy to forget where the act ends.Public Pain as Content: Online outrage consumes real suffering for clicks. The Pop Isn't Worth Your Soul: No angle, booking, or cheer is worth living in fear.Big Idea 4: Lessons We Have to CarryThis story is a mirror for every relationship and community that confuses passion with pain.Anger Is Not Love: Hitting, throwing, or humiliating is control, not passion.Communication Saves Lives: Speak up. Step away. Break the cycle with conversation.Love Yourself Enough to Leave: Walking away isn't weakness—it's survival.Truth Over Gossip: Talk about hard things without turning pain into entertainment.Three Smaller but Crucial IdeasPerformance Isn't Consent: A crowd pop doesn't erase personal boundaries.Algorithms Thrive on Suffering: Outrage and pain get clicks; popularity doesn't equal truth.Healing Requires Accountability: No one is a cartoon villain. Acknowledging harm is step one.Final ThoughtThe Masha–Akira story isn't about picking sides. It's about recognizing patterns before they trap us, refusing to mistake chaos for love, and remembering that no pop, storyline, or relationship is worth your soul.Time Stamp00:00 – Intro, context, and my personal disclaimers.03:00 – My brief interactions with Masha & Akira in the wrestling scene.08:00 – The first text message exchange—what it reveals about anger and control.17:00 – Overstimulation, bad matches, and misplaced frustration.28:00 – Physical abuse and the pictures of injuries.35:00 – Weaponizing sex and status in a toxic relationship.41:00 – Why communication matters more than winning an argument.47:00 – The breakup texts and what they teach us about self-awareness.50:00 – My call for accountability and healthier outlets for anger.

This week's long-form interview features Matthew Zolnowski, an expert in critical minerals and national security, Matthew delves into the evolving landscape of critical mineral supply chains and their strategic importance. Zolnowski highlights the cyclical nature of interest in these materials, noting that attention often peaks when prices skyrocket due to disruptions like export controls or environmental crackdowns, only to wane when prices are low. He meticulously traces the U.S. government's increasing involvement, particularly the Department of Defense, from initial small-scale investments to significant Defense Production Act awards, emphasizing that this is a long-term, "oil tanker" effort rather than a quick fix. A central theme in the discussion is the distinction between military and broader civilian critical mineral needs and the varying financial commitments required to secure each, alongside a critical examination of the government's role in private markets, particularly through equity investments and the controversial "Without Regard Clause" of the Defense Production Act.This episode of Mining Stock Daily is brought to you by... In this episode, I'm getting real as hell about something that's been blocking me for years and I didn't even realize I was doing it.I sat down with the powerhouse herself, Annamarie Green, and within minutes, she had me ugly crying on Zoom and realizing the hard truth:I've been weaponizing my past against my future self.Oof.We talk about how those old versions of us: people-pleasing, perfection-chasing, “too much” little girls - and how they can sneak into the driver's seat and sabotage the woman we're trying to become. From fear-mongering content creators to social media experts peddling doom, Canada's housing market has become an anxiety-fueled echo chamber where clicks matter more than facts. Housing analyst Ben Myers sits down with Adam & Matt to dissect how social media has weaponized housing anxiety across Vancouver and Toronto, creating a toxic cycle where fear drives engagement and nuance gets drowned out by extremes. The conversation cuts deep into the psychology behind "performative real estate" content and how perma-bears profit from keeping Canadians angry and afraid. What makes "performative real estate" content so addictive to stressed Canadians? Why has being a real estate "doomer" become more popular than being accurate? And in a world where being negative sounds more honest than being balanced, how can buyers cut through the noise to make smart decisions? Don't miss this eye-opening conversation about the intersection of housing, media, and human psychology.
In this episode of New Frontiers, host Paul Johnson sits down with psychologist Dr. Emily Bashah, political columnist Bob Robb, and professor Henry Thompson to dissect the explosive impact of conspiracy theories in American politics and culture. This gripping discussion delves into the rise of QAnon, the Epstein file scandal, and how political figures from both the left and the right strategically fuel these narratives. Together, they explore the psychological traps, victimhood ideologies, and the social media-driven spread of misinformation that threatens the foundations of democracy.Topics Discussed in the Video- The Rise and Weaponization of Conspiracies: Paul Johnson lays the foundation for understanding how conspiracy theories, once dismissed as fringe, have been strategically weaponized in modern politics—particularly by Donald Trump. This includes the deliberate courting of QAnon believers and how politicians are capitalizing on growing distrust.- The Epstein Files Controversy: The panel analyzes how the Epstein scandal sparked a rare fracture within Trump's MAGA coalition. Bob Robb and Henry Thompson reflect on the political implications of releasing raw investigative files and why even Trump can't control this narrative anymore.- Three Psychological Profiles of Conspiracy Believers: Dr. Emily Bashah presents groundbreaking insights from her forensic psychology work, categorizing conspiracy theorists into three groups: those with agency, those with a victim mindset, and those suffering from psychological disorders. Her research shows how each group becomes susceptible to radical ideas.- Radicalization and Social Media: The conversation explores how digital platforms amplify extremist thought, drawing connections between Pizzagate, incel movements, and acts of violence. Dr. Bashah illustrates how isolation, echo chambers, and dopamine feedback loops can radicalize everyday people.- The Left Isn't Immune: While much of the conversation focuses on right-wing extremism, Paul Johnson shifts the lens to conspiracy narratives embraced by the progressive left. Drawing on postmodern theory and anti-Zionist movements, the panel critiques how identity politics and academic ideology can also foster dangerous misinformation.- Antisemitism and Global Parallels: Henry Thompson traces the historical roots of antisemitism and its disturbing reemergence in both right-wing populism and left-wing activism. The panel discusses how global instability—from Gaza to Germany—is reviving old hatreds under new ideological disguises.- Solutions and Optimism: The discussion concludes with calls for critical thinking, greater political reform, and a re-engagement with optimistic leadership. Paul Johnson emphasizes the need to empower independent voters and dismantle structural partisanship to curb the influence of extremist ideologies.

While it is true that Hamas steals food to sell on the black market to pay its fighters, there is no justification for using food as a weapon. Can Israel recover from this moral stain? And why is Hamas not subject to international pressure to release the hostages that could end this war? Both Rudyard and Janice agree that the time is over for diplomatic solutions. International security forces need to intervene and put an end to this conflict. In the second half of the show Rudyard and Janice turn to France's intention to recognize Palestinian Statehood at the UN in September. This might not be welcome news to the Palestinian Authority and its leader Mahmoud Abbas as it comes with expectations of governance and elections. How does a statement or recognition actually change events on the ground? Is it enough to break through the defensive shield Bibi has built around himself? Ultimately, If this declaration does nothing to change Palestinian leadership or Israel's control over the West Bank, then it is nothing more than empty rhetoric with no consequence. As artificial intelligence programs become more widely accessible, so too do increasingly sophisticated deepfake scams that take advantage of the technology. Earlier this month, the State Department confirmed reports that an imposter pretending to be Secretary of State Marco Rubio reached out to at least five high-ranking government officials. It wasn't the first time a member of the Trump administration had been impersonated by AI; in May, the White House confirmed a similar incident involving Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. But these days, you don't even have to be a big-name politician to end up on the wrong side of a deepfake scam. If your image and voice exist on the internet, enterprising bad actors might be able to use them against you. Reporter David Gilbert, who covers disinformation and online extremism for Wired, joins us to talk about the risks deepfakes pose to the public and how all of us can protect ourselves. And in headlines: President Donald Trump sued The Wall Street Journal for $20 billion over an article claiming he sent a lewd birthday card to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Israeli troops killed dozens of Palestinians seeking food in Gaza Sunday, and CBS is pulling the plug on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.'Show Notes:Read David's stories: https://www.wired.com/author/david-gilbert/Call Congress – 202-224-3121Subscribe to the What A Day Newsletter – https://tinyurl.com/3kk4nyz8What A Day – YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@whatadaypodcastFollow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/crookedmedia/For a transcript of this episode, please visit crooked.com/whataday
