The COP30 climate summit is taking place in the Brazilian city of Belém for the next two weeks. It's run by the United Nations (UN) and every year is one of the biggest events in the calendar, especially for world leaders and environmental campaigners. This COP is in the Amazon rainforest. The country's president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, says it will be an historic summit because it is "a COP in the Amazon, not a COP about the Amazon". All world leaders are invited, but not all attend. US President Donald Trump, for example, won't be there. Every year at COP countries make commitments about what they will do over the next year with the aim of reducing climate change. But this year's summit is particularly important as it marks ten years since the Paris Agreement and people will be tracking our progress. The BBC's Georgina Rannard breaks down everything we need to know about this year's COP. Plus Natalia Tsuyama, who's a climate activist based in Brazil, shares why she's feeling hopeful. Ferenc Toth discusses the extreme overvaluation of the stock market, citing four major valuation indicators that are overvalued by three standard deviations, with the S&P 500 at its highest levels ever. He highlights that the top 10 US stocks account for over 41% of the S&P 500's market cap, and AI-related stocks make up 47%. He also mentions the risks of non-bank private credit and sovereign debt contributing to an economic bubble. Ferenc warns of potential market corrections or crashes, suggesting investors protect themselves with index products like annuities and life policies, which offer unlimited upside gains with no downside risk. Principle is guaranteed. Gains can be locked in at any time. There are 600+ index strategies. Ferenc has access to proprietary software that tracks the one, 5, and 10-year returns of the indexes. The indexes have up to 17% average annual return for the past decade. This ensures Ferenc can recommend the indexes that are most likely to have the highest upside potential. Very few advisors or agents have access to this info. Without the historical return info, the annuity agent is "flying blind". This is a game-changer.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has told Parliament's Ad Hoc committee probing national security concerns that he believes corruption within South Africa's police service, SAPS has deepened over the past decade. Testifying before the Committee for a second day, Mkhwanazi alleged an unethical relationship between suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and North West businessman Brown Mogotsi. Mkhwanazi's claims form part of broader allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political meddling in the criminal justice system probed by the parliamentary Committee established after his July revelations. You know Dick's Sporting Goods as one of America's largest and most successful sports retailers. It has used that status to help create an impressive catalog of five feature-length films and 10 short-form or episodic documentaries over the past decade, including the Emmy-winning docs We Could Be King (2014) and The Turnaround (2024). But in August, Dick's took things to a new level, officially launching an in-house studio division called Cookie Jar & A Dream Studios. In this episode, I talk to Dick's chief marketing officer Emily Silver about why now is the perfect time for an in-house studio, the evolution of the brand's entertainment strategy, how the company measures success for these projects, and where it all goes from here. Before that, I wanted to put what Dick's is doing into some context. So I called up Zac Ryder, co-founder and chief creative officer at Modern Arts—the agency that helped WhatsApp produce the Netflix doc The Seat, which we talked about back in Episode 1 of this season. Zac and I nerd out on the evolution of brand entertainment, then break down our picks for the "Best Brand Entertainment of the Past Decade."
This year, 2025, marks the 10th anniversary of the socialprotection.org platform—a milestone that offers the perfect opportunity to reflect on how far social protection has come over the past decade, and where it is headed next. Since 2015, when social protection was anchored in the Sustainable Development Goals (mainly under SDG 1 as a pillar of poverty reduction), the field has expanded and evolved in response to new global challenges. In this episode, we look back at key turning points: from the unprecedented expansion of programmes during COVID-19, to the growing recognition of social protection as a driver of women's empowerment, and its emerging role in climate adaptation, mitigation, and crisis response. But we don't stop there. We also look ahead, asking what the next years may hold for social protection in the face of constrained financing, political pushback on climate and gender agendas, and shifting global priorities. Meet our guests: Fabio Veras Soares, Researcher at the International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG) Edward Archibald, Senior Technical Advisor at STAAR (Social Protection, Technical Assistance, Advice and Resources) Zehra Rizvi, Social Policy Specialist, UNICEF For our Quick Wins segment, we are joined by Mariana Balboni, Coordinator of the socialprotection.org platform. Having been part of the platform's story almost from the very beginning, Mariana reflects on its major achievements of the past 10 years in building and growing this global knowledge-sharing community. She also looks ahead to the next decade sharing the platform's priorities for supporting the global community of practice, elaborating on how socialprotection.org will continue to evolve to meet emerging challenges in the field, and her hopes for what the platform can achieve in the years to come.

In recent years big service stations have popped up across Ireland's road network. In the past before motorways, you would stop in a village for a break and find a pub. Now it's all change. With petrol pumps and as many EV charging points and multiple restaurant choices. Henry McKean met travellers from across Ireland at Junction 14 Mayfield in Kildare. He sent this snapshot in time at one of Ireland's busiest service stations.

"Well, I think AI makes us, makes me more human in terms of understanding that nirvana or the ultimate achievement is not to be perfect. The ultimate achievement is to be authentic, present, and yourself. I guess it exists in this human dimension. One of the things you realize is that when something is too perfect, whether it's your selfie or something you've written, people start to distrust it. Right now, if I generate or design something, or if I write something and it sounds too fluent and flawless—without accent, pauses, or mistakes—people might suspect that it's not Siok, but actually the digital twin of Siok. One question that people ask me and ask themselves is: how has AI made me more aware of what it means to be human?" - Tan Siok Siok Fresh out of the studio, our host, Bernard Leong sat down with Tan Siok Siok, author of AI for Humanity, for an insightful discussion on the evolving role of AI in our lives. During the conversation, Siok Siok explored how AI makes us more human by emphasizing the importance of authenticity over perfection. They discussed the creative process, with Siok Siok viewing AI as a tool to enhance rather than replace human creativity. The interview also touched on the broader implications of AI, including job displacement and the geopolitical nuances of AI development. Tan Siok Siok shared her thoughts on the need for humans to guide and nurture AI responsibly, dismissing the notion of a doomsday scenario driven by AI. The conversation offered a nuanced perspective on how AI can be a partner in human progress, rather than a threat, encouraging listeners to engage actively with AI's potential. Newly published results of a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) survey show a decline in the proportion of high-school students reporting past-month marijuana use over the past decade, as dozens of states moved to legalize cannabis. As of 2023, 17 percent of high-school students reported using marijuana within the past month, according to the newly released 2023 Youth Risk Behavior Survey. That's down from 23 percent in 2013. The federal survey is conducted every two years and focuses on substance use, sexual behavior, mental health, experiences of violence and suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Let's face it: moving is stressful and challenging on many fronts - emotionally, physically, mentally, and financially. Yet, each year, tens of millions of people in the US relocate from their place of birth or current residence to another location within the same city, county, state, country, or abroad for many reasons. (Read more at: https://www.mymovingreviews.com/move/how-often-and-why-americans-move/) During these moves, we tend to accumulate belongings along the way, and the next thing we know, we have more stuff than we know what to do with. In this episode, I chatted with Deanna Yates about this very topic and how minimalism has played a significant role in her life of relocating 16 times in the past 20 years. She provided listeners with practical decluttering and downsizing advice for those who are ready to let go and who crave more space in their homes and lives. I hope you enjoy and are helped by this conversation with Deanna. Deanna Yates is the busy mama behind the top-ranking podcast, Wannabe Clutter Free, where she helps other busy families learn how to let go of the stuff holding them back so they can enjoy more time together, stop spending their weekends cleaning house, and wake up excited for the day ahead. Deanna is mom to one daughter, wife to a startup entrepreneur, and is living her dream life in San Diego, CA. When she's not helping clients realize their dreams, you can find her on her Peloton, searching for the tastiest breakfast burrito, or balancing her love of a good Target run with living clutter-free in her own home. PREVIIEW: #EU: #NATO: Conversation with colleague Joseph Sternberg of the WSJ, based in London, of the controversy between the US and European powers to meet the 2% contribution to collective defense that has been promised this past decade -- and the suggestion that the US listen to Europe's positive and engaged response to the Washington accusations of freeridership. "When I started making senior teams, I thought, “I want to compete at all six championships.” I did that and then was like, “I want to make a final in all six championships.” I did that and then said, “I want to win a medal at all six championships” and I have done that. I've defended titles, I've broken records and championship records. The only thing that's really missing is the global title, which is very hard to get… But I'm going to keep trying and that's all I can do." Great Britain's Laura Muir, the Olympic 1500m silver medalist and three-time 1500m world championship medalist, will return to the 116th Millrose Games at The Armory on Feb. 11 to defend her NYRR Wanamaker Mile title. In this conversation, Laura and I look back at her 2023 season – which was a bit turbulent at times since she parted ways with her longtime coach Andy Young, coached herself briefly and is now working with Steve Vernon. Despite the sudden changes, she still managed to run a season's best of 3:55.16 for the 1500m and managed to make the World Championship final in Budapest, where she finished sixth. One highlight was running 4:15 for the mile in Monaco for a British record. While we look back at last year, we also look ahead to 2024 where she plans to run the 3000m at the World Indoor Championships in March and then go all-in toward getting back on the podium in Paris.
