On this final episode in Season One of “The Shine Strategy” podcast, it’s just you and me! I decided to take this time to bookend our season with a solo episode, so we could look back at what we did with the show and how it is helping our listeners. We discovered and absorbed so much this year—powerful ideas from our guests, the ins-and-outs of podcasting, and how to continue to evolve as spiritual beings having a human experience. I’m so excited to come back next year with many lessons learned. Isn’t that one of the secrets to life? Live and learn... In looking back, it’s a complete honor and humbling experience to look at who actually showed up for the show. And I have to share that this is also the magic of PR and what I do. Being able to ask the right people for what you want and enroll them in your vision for the desired outcome—well, that’s a big part of it. So many of my high profile guests told me, “I don’t normally do this…” And then they agreed to be interviewed by someone they didn’t really know—for a brand new podcast with no stats or track record. A little of my PR magic? I’d say so... In this episode, I break down what public relations is and share more about how it actually works and can specifically apply to you. It’s such a mystery for so many people, and I recently realized that even my mom still doesn’t understand what I do after all these years. So, I get a little deeper into the nuts and bolts in this episode and share how it has helped not only my clients, students and members, but also my own business. My intention was to bring you, my listener, inspirational stories and strategies from leading visionaries who are out there making the world a better place by using their high-profile platforms for good. And, also to make sure that you know that you can do it too! Guys...I think we did it! Thanks so much for listening, and I’ll see you in 2020. With much love, your shine strategist, Heather B. On this episode of “The Shine Strategy,” I’m proud to introduce to you a dynamic woman and longtime dear friend of mine, Lila Javan. We attended high school together at Northfield Mount Hermon, and who would have known all those years ago that Lila would become a 3x cancer survivor and the founder of Climb2Cure for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), raising over $2 million to date for cancer research. In 2010, Lila’s life was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Leukemia, AML. After intense treatment and a bone marrow transplant, Lila went almost four years of being cancer-free but relapsed two more times: in 2014, and again in 2018. She has survived aggressive chemotherapy treatment and multiple bone marrow and stem cell transplants—one from her sister and also from a stranger in Germany (thanks to Be The Match). Just before her relapse in 2014, Lila was planning a solo trip to Africa to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. The very week that she was booking flights, she discovered that her cancer was back. While in the hospital, a friend designed a window frame with a beautiful photograph of Kilimanjaro in it and hung it on the wall opposite her bed. Throughout her treatment, Lila would stare at that window and visualize herself climbing the mountain. Her doctors and nurses all asked about the picture and soon her solo trip became a group trip comprised of 12 doctors, nurses, therapists and friends. Lila then reached out to LLS to see if they could do the trek as a fundraiser for research, and "Climb2Cure" was born. Her solo climb evolved into a new LLS Team In Training fundraising platform that will continue for years to come and is expanding to other mountain tops. Lila's team raised an astonishing $133,000 for their first climb. To date, climbers have raised over $2M for cancer research. Lila’s strength is unbelievable. She is not only one of the physically strongest people I know, but her will and spirit are a shining example of how the energy you carry can literally heal you. Using visualization, she was able to look at her treatment as “training” which powered her through the rough days. She was able to run the LA marathon a mere 6 months after her first stem cell transplant! You won’t want to miss her unbelievable story and learn what you can do to continue to support the fight against cancer. In this episode of “The Shine Strategy” podcast, I'm thrilled to share an enlightening conversation with renowned photographer, multimedia artist, and director, Deborah Anderson. She heard the calling to be in service of Native American women and communities, and her new documentary film, “Women of the White Buffalo,” offers awareness and awakening to this life-changing movement.Deborah's journey is truly inspiring—from living with a Lakota tribe and experiencing the horrific circumstances that many Native Americans are enduring, and deciding to give the people a voice without initially knowing how she would do it. Her mission goes far beyond the making of a film. She's using her talents to educate and activate the mainstream on what is really happening to the Native peoples, their lands and spirit. She's inspiring others to get more educated and connected with U.S. History and to take pause to consider what's happening, not only with Native Americans, but also with ourselves. For show notes and more visit: podcast.theshinestrategy.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In our first episode of "The Shine Strategy," I'm honored to speak with "Green Book" 2x Oscar-winning producer and writer Nick Vallelonga. The critically-acclaimed film won three Oscars and three Golden Globes and is based on the true story of Nick's father, Tony Vallelonga, who, in 1962, went on a tour in the Deep South with pianist Dr. Donald Shirley. Nick always knew he would tell his father’s important story about overcoming racism. Honoring Dr. Shirley's wishes, he waited until the brilliant composer passed away to make the film. Its themes of friendship, breaking the racial divide and how people really can change have impacted the globe. Nick discusses how he assembled his brilliant team, compiled the perfect cast, and the rest is cinematic history.
