An idea - whether it's a business, a book, or a brand isn't just an object. It's a living dynamic organism that has come to us, and us alone, for a reason. This beautiful thing chose us to flow through and co-create with us, and that's a vision that needs no one's approval to bloom. It's a completely different way of doing business, yes, but it is a more sustainable approach. Resonance is two energy waves coming together - a Source-given match between creator and creation. That's why the most resonant businesses come from within. Our body's wisdom will always tell us what's resonant and what's dissonant. We need to have courage to honor whatever's happening inside our body, regardless of what the external thinks. It's a powerful practice, not just for being, playing and loving, but also for creating things that never stop regenerating. For Suzy Batiz, this model was a huge aspect behind Poo~Pourri. How did this idea come to her? How did she overcome the need for approval? How do we take this lesson from her and learn to trust our body's wisdom (and actually listen to it)? In this episode, we're delighted to be joined by Suzy. She shares the journey she's taken, and why resonance should always be an ingredient in our creative process. Having the courage to honor whatever's happening inside your body regardless of what the external thinks about it. That's the practice. -Suzy Batiz Three Things You'll Learn In This Episode -The idea has its own desires When built on resonance, the essence of our creation naturally amplifies out. What's the danger in taking an outside-in approach? -Warning: logic can be faulty Our brains are powerful creation machines but why is the body more reliable? -Mind the override What happens when we ignore the resonant voice inside us in favor of making everyone else comfortable? Guest Bio Suzy Batiz is an entrepreneur and the founder of Poo~Pourri. She has been featured by leading publications including Forbes, CNBC, Fast Company and Entrepreneur. She has been named one of Forbes' Richest Self-Made Women in America (2019), EY's Entrepreneur of the Year (2017), Conscious Company's World Changing Women (2019), EarthX's Community Leader of the Year (2019) and is WBENC (Women Owned) certified business owner. Now, here's Diana. Hello there, Diana, and welcome to the show. It's great to have you with us Diana Giovinazzo: Thank you so much for having me. It's such a pleasure., Jenny Wheeler: You've written these two lovely books about forgotten women of history, Antoinette's Sister, which is the latest one and the one we'll be focusing on here today, but also The Women in Red, which got tremendous reviews when it was published. Both of them are these forgotten women. You've said that getting into genealogy and your own family history is what drew you into writing fiction. Tell us about how that happened. Diana Giovinazzo: It was really interesting. I was having a conversation with my dad and we were discussing how my family ended up coming to the United States and the questions of how turned into, well, why. Why were they leaving Italy? Why were they coming to California? Because there were a massive number of, Italians that left the country going to Australia, New Zealand, the United States and all throughout South America, and my father said well, you should look at Anita Garibaldi and check out her story. I think you'd really like it. That might give you some answers. And so, I did. I picked up a biography and I absolutely fell in love with her story and started digging into the Italian history and what was going on with unification and the country itself.

This prevents company leadership from making necessary changes, and prevents people from feeling fulfilled, recognized, and included at work. At AllVoices, we want to change that by providing a completely safe, anonymous way for people to report issues directly to company leaders. This allows company leadership real transparency into what's happening in their companies—and the motivation to address issues quickly. Our goal is to help create safer, more inclusive companies.

Spending life wisely goes beyond just being prudent on financial matters, but also includes taking care of your health, personal growth, and the cultivation of your faith. Encouraging openness in the workplace will help everyone understand each other and appreciate each other more. Constant feedback and appreciation to inform each person what they did right will help them grow into better people. We are either leaving people better or worse, never neutral. We must put a lot of intention in leaving the people we encounter a little bit better. “My goal is that everybody walks away from any type of interaction with First United or myself feeling a little bit better, a little elevated because life is so hard for us anyway like it is...” - Melissa Perrin Connect with Melissa Perrin:Website: www.firstunitedbank.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/melissalperrin/ Connect with Steve and Jason:LinkedIn: Jason or SteveWebsite: Rewire, Inc.: Transformed Thinking Email: grow@rewireinc.com Show notes by Podcastologist: Justine TallaAudio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. We knew going into it, that this show was going to be impactful, and it was exactly that. Both Brad and Michelle have amazing backgrounds that have led them to where they are today. When you listen to the podcast, be ready to pull out a map to track Brad's amazing background and upbringing, and then you'll be astonished to hear the longevity and growth that Michelle has had with Televerde. These two have the passion for supporting the growth of purpose driven companies in two areas that overlap through the entire conversation. The topics of mental health programs and supporting the growth opportunities for incarcerated women were the strong threads through the conversation. While talking about growing a purpose driven business it is important to also mention the importance of profit at that level as well. People, purpose, and profit can all thrive and grow at the same strong level. This is a principle that both Michelle and Kindra are familiar with through their work and alignment with Conscious Capitalism. This podcast is a great one for leaders to listen to. It is important to hear and understand the need for mental health programs to support employees. This is not a new topic but a topic that companies are not familiar with talking about, and they need to get over it. When it comes to the topic of diversity and inclusion, then the conversation of hiring previously incarcerated men and women in the workplace should be part of the conversation or companies are not truly hiring in a fully inclusive manner. This conversation was deep, honest, passionate, eye opening, and important to share. Jennifer Brandel is Co-founder of Hearken, a people powered process and technology that enables organizations to better engage and collaborate with their stakeholders, as well as the Co-Founder of Zebras Unite, a network creating a more ethical, inclusive and collaborative ecosystem for mission-based startups. For her work in journalism and entrepreneurship, Jen won the prize for “Best Bootstrap Company” at SXSW and won the News Media Alliance Accelerator Prize. She received the Media Changemaker Prize by the Center for Collaborative Journalism, was named one of 30 World-Changing Women in Conscious Business, is a Columbia Sulzberger Fellow, an RSA Fellow, AND a member of the Guild of Future Architects and the National Civic Collaboratory. Jenn and I talk about building a values-based business, why process should come before product, alternatives to the unicorn model, so much more: How combining the philosophical underpinnings of business and working with the Bahai faith taught her an effective way to impact journalism and plant the seed for starting Hearken How changing the process of reporting fundamentally changed the dynamics and results of the newsroom Why and how Hearken preserved optionality as it has grown over the past five years, and the options that are opened by maintaining sole ownership The zebra company as her response to her disillusion with the silicon valley model and exponential growth and monopoly market Why engagement is a strategic business model, and how Hearken is thinking about a more relational engagement model that expands possibilities for peoples lives How Hearken approaches helping companies transform, and why they focus both on what is being left behind and what is newly being built How Hearken designed a system with different moments of feedback loops at major decision making moments and how they deliberately think about the dynamics they create for 1:1 and 1-to-many interactions References and resources: Zebras Unite You are more powerful than you think: A Citizen's Guide to Making Change Happen by Eric Liu Community Centered Journalism: Engaging People, Exploring Solutions, and Building Trust by Andrea Wenzel Design Justice Network Select highlights: "Just by tweaking the process of how news stories got made, we ended up creating a different sounding and differently consequential journalism. Other newsrooms started asking us about it, and I knew I would regret not trying to help others make it work, because I do think it is universally applicable process that makes the world a little bit better." "I feel like what we're trying to do is maintain the mission, and the money follows if you center the public. But the operations and the way the operating systems of news rooms have been set up is completely counter to this, so the work of doing this change while it might sound so simple on the surface is surprisingly more challenging because of the way they're optimized for speed, efficiency and distribution, not for listening, relevance and trust. So, there are a lot of changes that need to happen inside an organization first on a mental paradigm level, and then a workflow and tooling and schedule and business level. This tiny idea ends up changing a lot." "I ran into the tension of what seemed like the Silicon Valley pattern recognition and it felt inherently impossible to build the kind of company I wanted to in that value system in place and that structure. If I want to build a company that lasts a long time and has these kinds of structures, why am I focusing all my time on making a small group of people very wealthy who aren't who I'm trying to serve with this work? I was always pushing back on the 10x unicorn model, but I didn't have the language for what I wanted instead. "That was a tension that was hard, just the tradeoffs along the way of trying to find aligned financing and again hearing people say 'We'd invest in you if you only tweaked it this way or that way,' knowing that that would actually compromise our values. It's hard to walk away from money but we really have figured out that who you get the money from and what it's designed to do is so important, and it's better to say no if you have that option." "It was a real gold rush mentality, and folks really glommed onto one or two narratives of how you could strike it big. Then that just became everything that people were chasing, and then forgot the fact that our economy and country are built on these more steward-owned models in which family or generational companies are growing incrementally over time." "It all comes down to human nature. It's not something that is going to change. People are always going to be curious, they're always going to have questions, they're always going to need other people to help fact check and understand the complexity of any situation to make it digestible and easy to understand what to do. Those things are never going to change, and I feel positive about any system that's built on human nature fundamentals designed for the most productive version of ourselves, versus the most destructive tendencies that we have. And that's what I feel we have with our public powered process and tech." "I think it's all about discerning what are the dynamics that make for the best outcomes for everybody." "There's different network design built for different purposes and I think its really thinking through what's the most productive and what's going to yield the most positive responses for everybody." "The more people are involved, the more they get to see their voices mattering and shaping things and the change they want to see happening the more likely that are to support you and trust you. So many institutions don't have this connective tissue." "People first, going into process, and then product is the final layer. It's easy to start with product because it's tangible, where process is more abstract and requires more mental bandwidth. That's part of it, convincing people the process innovation, which is hard to wrap your head around, is so much more important than what products you're using."

Suzy’s perspective is that of a wise human who has done the work that many of us would rather avoid just to get on with achieving various success markers. We dug deep into Suzy’s life’s work and what it takes to truly transform our lives and be open to new perspectives of what we can do with it. About Suzy Batiz Transformation is the common thread that runs throughout founder and creator Suzy Batiz’s life and her companies. Allison Pataki has made it her specialty to discover the relatively unknown women of history whose lives changed the course of empires, whose names have largely been forgotten. Women like Désirée Clary, the first love of Napoleon's life. She might have ended up as Empress if he hadn't met Josephine, but she went on to found a famous royal house which still exists today. In The Queen's Fortune, Allison's latest book, she tells us the story of this fascinating historical figure. Hi there, I'm your host Jenny Wheeler and in todays Binge Reading episode Allison talks about the qualities needed for living through turbulent times, whether they are contemporary or historical, and the women who survived them. On a more personal note, in her own intimate memoir, Beauty in the Broken Places, she catalogues her own journey through rough waters. Six things you'll learn from this Joys of Binge Reading episode: Why Allison loves writing about history's unsung heroinesHow she discovered Sisi, the 'accidental' EmpressThe first love whose legacy outlives Napoleon'sDealing with the 'club of bad things'The authors she recommendsOrchestrating betrayal - traitor Benjamin Arnold's wife's story Where to find Allison Pataki: Website: Allisonpataki.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AllisonPatakiPage Twitter: @AllisonPataki Bookbub: https://www.bookbub.com/authors/allison-pataki Goodreads: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/7155436.Allison_Pataki What follows is a "near as" transcript of our conversation, not word for word but pretty close to it, with links to important mentions. But now, here's Allison. Jenny Wheeler: Hello there, Allison and welcome to the show. It's so good to have you with us. Allison Pataki: Thank you so much for having me, Jenny. I'm thrilled to be here. The wonders of modern technology. We can be crossing winter to summer across the globe. Jenny Wheeler: That's absolutely right. You are in the depths of winter. Tell us what you're experiencing right now. Allison Pataki: I'm in upstate New York, about an hour outside of Manhattan, and we are in the middle of a historic snowstorm. It started two days ago, and it has not stopped and is not showing signs of stopping. Allison Pataki - Best-selling New York Times historic fiction Everybody has been completely housebound. Local leaders have advised everybody to stay off the roads, which is not an issue for us because our car is so buried under snow right now that we can't get anywhere. So it's me, my husband, our children, and we're all on day four of solitary confinement together at home. Jenny Wheeler: You've had a taste of that this last 12 months with the pandemic as well. Allison Pataki: Exactly. This is a new level because we literally can't go outside our front door. It's taking it to the extreme in the depths of February wintertime snowy weather. Jenny Wheeler: You are a New York Times bestselling author who's made a specialty of finding relatively unknown women - you describe them as previously unexplored women – and turning them into riveting historical fiction. I wonder where that impulse initially came from? Allison Pataki: Well, thank you. I hope it's riveting fiction. That certainly would be high praise to hear that. That genre, for me, is my happy place as a reader and as a writer. Allison's 'happy place' is history I have always loved history and I've always loved reading and literature and diving into a great story. I truly think historical fiction for me is a perfect blending of those passions and those interests. I feel historical fiction is a wonderful way in, because it's not only educational, but it's wildly entertaining and transportive. What I've noticed myself gravitating towards is historical fiction that is focused on the female perspective. Take my most recent book as an example, The Queen's Fortune. Many readers and many people in general are familiar with th...

On today’s uplifting podcast, I share an incredible conversation with Vicki Saunders, an entrepreneur, award-winning mentor, advisor to the next generation of changemakers and leading advocate for entrepreneurship, as a way of creating positive transformation in the world. Vicki is Founder of SheEO and #radical generosity, a global initiative to radically transform how we support, finance and celebrate female entrepreneurs. Vicki has co-founded and run ventures in Europe, Toronto and Silicon Valley and taken a company public on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Vicki was recently named as 1 of 30 “World-Changing Women in Conscious Business” by Conscious Company Magazine and one of the 100 most influential leaders of 2015 from “EBW – Empowering A Billion Women”. In 2001, Vicki was selected as a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum. Listen to today’s incredible podcast as vicki shares her own powerful personal stories and background to what helped shaped her to dream to build SheEO and #radical generosity. “I knew I always wanted to have a big impact,” Vicki shared. Everything fell into place for Vicki when she was in Europe. “It was the most freedom I had ever felt” and it was the thing that sparked her dream to go home and start a foundation for women. “I did things differently as a woman,” Vicki shared. What does it mean to be successful as a woman? What are the conditions that allow someone to achieve their dreams? What sort of environment? Vicki described her interest to identify, design and create conditions to help women reach their full potential. What is the culture and conditions for women to survive and thrive? That’s where SheEO has grown and scaled globally - Women working on the world’s to-do list. “We have identified critical priorities. We use our influence and expertise to help get great ideas off the ground,” Vicki explains. There’s a lot of power in sharing resources. Through her radical generosity work, Vicky mentioned how each and every member of her foundation is aligned with “How can I help you”? It’s the question every member asks. Nothing brings more joy to Vicki than seeing women stepping into their own power. Her vision includes changing the world’s message from scarcity to abundance. Everyone has a gift to give. Enjoy today’s podcast. You’ll be inspired by Vicki’s story and message - “Trust and step into your discomfort before you think you’re ready. It takes bravery to be a leader”.
