Part 2 of a lite hearted but informative conversation between two colleagues and friends. Dean du Plessis and South African based journalist Neil Manthorp talk about bowlers who had the ability to reverse swing the ball, Australis’s official return to South Africa after readmission, Brian McMillan’s famous incident with Alan Border which left AB stuttering and stammering. And Neil Manthorp then has Dean du Plessis lost for words as he rolls back the years to Dean’s first stint in the commentary box in 2001
Angus Fraser delivers his take on the current Ashes and his finest ever Middlesex England 11. Angus Fraser made his test debut against Australia, taking 4/63 and claiming Steve Waugh as his first test wicket. In 46 tests, he took 177 wickets with a best of 8/53. At a time when England rarely had the best of things against the old enemy, in 12 Ashes tests he took 46 wickets with 3 ‘fivefers’ at a healthy average of 30. His 6 for 82 in the 1991 Boxing Day Test included Alan Border, Dean Jones and once again Steve Waugh. Listen here to here him discussing with Guerilla Cricket’s Tony Bishop the current Ashes and his own all time Middlesex England team.
Alan Border and Dean Jones put on one of the most dazzling displays of One Day International batting in January 1985 when they took on Sri Lanka and scored a double-century partnership. Abhik, Shourov and Brian reminisce about the game and an extraordinary ending that left Deano high and dry on 99 not out. They go on to make (slightly) unkind comments about past cricketers and find a strange analogy between cricket and human reproduction, before turning their razor sharp minds to speculation about why some countries are so damn good at sport.Today's game - Australia vs Sri Lanka, January 28th, 1985

Them Merv Hughes joins the podcast to discuss his recent fishing trip to Darwin, and where to find the best steak in town (16:50); how closely he's following the Dogs in 2018 (18:34); his comeback to yappy Essendon fans (20:01); growing up in Werribee (20:39); his favourite Bulldogs player growing up and playing in the backline for Werribee (21:47); who he'd rather stand as a backman, Barry Hall or Tony Lockett (23:51); doing 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' with Barry Hall (24:19); what the mood is like in the change rooms before Test Match (25:24); why former Australian captain Alan Border named him 'Fruit Fly' (27:36); his favourite Shane Warne stories (28:34); why he didn't train much and his first impressions (29:38); and Warne the tennis player (32:52).
