Dean Alioto, the creator and director of The McPherson Tape, never intended to fool anyone. Produced in 1989 as a film school project, the low-budget movie unexpectedly convinced some well-known ufologists—and even a U.S. Air Force colonel—that the footage depicted a genuine alien abduction. Despite Alioto being upfront from the beginning that the film was fiction, the project—initially dismissed by his school—took on a life of its own.Because Dean was already well-read on UFO lore and alien abduction stories at the time, he drew inspiration from many of the narratives circulating in the late 1980s. That familiarity inadvertently gave the film an authenticity that resonated with parts of the UFO community.Today, decades later, Dean finds himself uniquely positioned to talk about public deception, misinformation, and how easily belief can take hold. Before the COVID pandemic hit, San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf averaged over 15 million visitors each year. While the waterfront is still one of the most visited areas in the region, the local businesses — including fishing companies, souvenir shops and restaurants — are struggling from a lack of investment, high rents and lower tourism. Now, the Port of San Francisco has announced a multi-year plan that involves a $10 million investment to renovate the area. Set to begin in 2026, the first phase of “Fisherman's Wharf Forward” is a facelift for Taylor Street, which includes the demolition of a historic fish restaurant, Alioto's, and the construction of a new public plaza with a waterfront lookout. Chaz and AJ took some calls from the Tribe about their road rage incidents, including one guy who pulled out a sawzall. (8:41)  In Dumb Ass News, Chaz and AJ shelved their prepared story to take a live call from Kim, who had a road rage story where her husband actually wound up being shot by the other person. (24:51)  A woman in New London, CT has been arrested for performing medical procedures without a license. Chaz and AJ had a local report on the story, and learned a little bit about fat dissolving.
