his is first of four podcast episodes related to WordPress security. For the first time ever, I feel like I need to add some context to the show notes so that you understand the context of what I'm doing here. A little while ago there was some news in the WordPress space about the merits of using plugins for securing your WordPress website. Researchers (Calvin being one of them) had discovered ways in which the effectiveness of the plugins might be compromised. I'll leave the audio (and transcript) of the podcast to explain the technicalities here, but there were several posts on social media which amplified the issue, making it harder to gain an understanding of what happened, and when. I decided to reach out to a number of people to get 'their side of the story'. Also a first for this podcast, I set some ground rules for the interviews to take place: Each participant (there are four in total, one per episode) was told who the other guests were Each participant was told that their episode would not be published until all four recordings had taken place Each participant was told that their episode would be published in a random order What you're listening to today is the first of that random publishing schedule. The other three episodes will come out in the following weeks. This was done to ensure that the guests did not have. a chance to listen to the other participants episode, and therefore had. a chance to 'better prepare'. With hindsight, which was likely overkill as all the guests were very thoughtful and polite. They do in some cases mention rival products and describe areas where they think that errors were made in code and communication. That being said, there was no general sense of mud slinging that I detected. Tarih ve Toplum dergisinin Ocak 1991'de yayımlanan 85. Sayısındaki Robert Anhegger-Cemal Ünlü imzalı makaleye göre Türkiye'de taş plaklı seçim propagandasının ilk örneği Meddah Sururi'nin “Mahalle kahvesinde mebus intihabı” adlı kaydı olabilir. 78'lik bu kaydın tarihi tespit edilememiş ama benzer içerik Memduh Şevket Esendal'ın 1920-1923 tarihleri arasında yazıldığı sanılan "Mebus olursa" adlı öyküsünde yer aldığı için kaydın da bu döneme veya daha öncesine ait olması mümkünmüş. Taş plakların seçimlerde kullanılması ise bu konunun uzmanı Tarih Vakfı Başkanı Prof. Mehmet Ö. Alkan'a göre 1939 veya 1943 yılında olmalı. O yıllardaki seçimlerde CHP genel merkezinin taş plaklar hazırlatarak taşraya gönderip belediye hoparlöründe çaldırarak halka dinlettiğini biliniyormuş. 14 Mayıs 1950'de CHP'den doğan DP'nin "Yeter Söz Milletindir!" şiarıyla ezici farkla tek başına iktidar olmasıyla siyasal iletişimde müzik kullanımı artmış. Ancak bunlar DP Marşı ve Adnan Menderes'in miting konuşmalarını içeren plaklar olmuş.

Synopsis For many years, the BBC celebrated April Fools' Day by trying to pull people's legs with outrageously fabricated news stories. One year, for example, BBC TV aired footage of an Italian spaghetti farm where happy peasants harvested that year's crop from bushes that the BBC production crew had draped with limp noodle. On another April 1st, the BBC's classical service profiled an eccentrically reclusive 19th century French composer who concocted unplayable works in his apartment on a bizarre instrument that combined an organ pedal board with a grand piano. He was, the story claimed, as fantastic a performer as Liszt or Chopin, and supposedly was crushed to death by his own bookcase when he attempted to remove a heavy volume from its top shelf. Only in this case, the story was actually more or less true, and the composer, Charles-Valentin Alkan, was a very real person. Alkan was born in Paris in 1813 and was buried there on today's date in 1888. Only the bit about Alkan's “death by bookcase” in the BBC profile is disputed by some historians. That story originated with Isidore Philipp, one of only four mourners who attended Alkan's April 1st burial, and who claimed to have been present when the composer's body was found in his apartment. Philipp was a highly respected and long-lived French composer and piano teacher who came to America in 1940 and died here in 1958. He seems a credible witness – so who to believe? What an honor it was this week to sit down with Azra Alkan, who has climbed the ranks of visual effects artists in Hollywood, and whose career is blossoming more and more with every project that passes. If you want to be impressed, just listen to her talk, but if you want to be doubly impressed, check out her IMDB page which I gushed over in the intro because this list of projects deserves it. We talked all about the process of effects, the teamwork, the collaboration, the highs, and the lows. From simple questions that someone outside of the industry might not think of, to philosophical musings about art and leadership, this episode really has it all.
