David Trevaskis, Director, and Bill Baldwin, Deputy Director of the Pro Bono Service for the Pennsylvania Bar Association, discussed membership in the bar, its privileges and responsibilities, in particular rule 6.1, directing attorneys to act in the public good. Dave spoke of your right to representation in criminal cases and in family law such as parental termination hearings, and the low bar of income that can preclude you from free services. We discussed civil issues, landlord/tenant disputes, bankruptcy, divorce, where an attorney can save you time and money, yet most are unable to afford legal help. They spoke of research projects showing that a 3-million-dollar investment in legal services for Philadelphia housing disputes could save the city 53 million dollars in other services, including eviction costs, social services, re-housing and more. In the case of divorce, lack of representation can add a year to the process, adding costs to both parties. The offered resources for people in need of representation, beginning with PALawHelp.org, an online way to see if you qualify for free services, they also discussed pa.freelegalanswers.org, an interactive resource that connects you with attorneys to answer your legal questions. For residents of New Jersey and Delaware, there s a referral tab. Bill also recommends your search for help can begin with your local county bar, most offer low or no cost services. The PA Bar Association offers clinics and online resources, including their Wills for Heroes program, offering first responders and vets free help with wills. For more information visit PABAR.org

"Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come" I Corinthians 10:11. Welcome to the Genesis Class at St. Aidan's, KC. Bill hopes to discuss the book of Genesis at least through chapter 15 and God's covenant with Abraham. The class will cover foundational themes regarding Creation and Redemption, the nature of the image of God, the Seed of the woman (and the Seed of Abraham) vs the Seed of the serpent, and the city of God vs the city of Man. We'll look at how all these points to Israel as God's chosen people, to Jesus as God's well-beloved Son, and to you upon whom the ends of the ages have come! The result, we hope, will be a greater understanding of "the big picture" presented in Scripture, a greater appreciation for how God works to accomplish his purposes, a greater joy in who Jesus is and what he has done and is doing, and a greater awe at how you have been placed into this unfolding story. Looking to remodel? Please see Hartman Baldwin's contact info below. bill@hartmanbaldwin.com 909-721-8630 https://www.hartmanbaldwin.com/about/ I was super excited to speak with Claremont's own, Bill Baldwin from Hartman Baldwin about the process of remodeling. We go over some of the things that bring the most happiness to people when they remodel. As well as some of the pitfalls to avoid to prevent the remodel from becoming a nightmare. Trust me, remodeling the wrong way can become a nightmare really quickly. Bill has a few stories to attest to that. Save yourself the hassle and remodel the right way. The questions we go over in the interview are below. When clients remodel their houses with you, what areas of the home give them the highest levels of happiness when the project is done? What is the biggest fear your clients share when they start the process? What is the best process for clients to follow, in the initial start of the process to avoid issues throughout the process? If the clients do not follow the process you just spoke about, what pitfalls do they tend to encounter? So we have all seen it where people decide to go cheap or DIY, tell me some of the horror stories you have seen happen? Or had to come in and fix after the fact.

3. The Flesh & the Spirit - Spiritual Combat Series - Bill Baldwin 03.08.20 by St. Aidan's Anglican Church, KC
O God, who wonderfully created, and yet more wonderfully restored, the dignity of human nature: Grant that we may share the divine life of him who humbled himself to share our humanity, you Son Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Matthew 2:13-15,19-23 Now after they had left, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him." Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother by night, and went to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet, "Out of Egypt I have called my son." When Herod died, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, "Get up, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who were seeking the child's life are dead." Then Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And after being warned in a dream, he went away to the district of Galilee. There he made his home in a town called Nazareth, so that what had been spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, "He will be called a Nazarene."
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of the saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Third Sunday of Advent Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and, because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grace and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen The Old Testament Isaiah 35:1-10 The wilderness and the dry land shall be glad, the desert shall rejoice and blossom; like the crocus it shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, the majesty of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the LORD, the majesty of our God. Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who are of a fearful heart, "Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you." Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then the lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; the haunt of jackals shall become a swamp, the grass shall become reeds and rushes. A highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Holy Way; the unclean shall not travel on it, but it shall be for God's people; no traveler, not even fools, shall go astray. No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it; they shall not be found there, but the redeemed shall walk there. And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. The Gospel Matthew 11:2-11 When John heard in prison what the Messiah was doing, he sent word by his disciples and said to him, "Are you the one who is to come, or are we to wait for another?" Jesus answered them, "Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have good news brought to them. And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me." As they went away, Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to look at? A reed shaken by the wind? What then did you go out to see? Someone dressed in soft robes? Look, those who wear soft robes are in royal palaces. What then did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written, 'See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.' Truly I tell you, among those born of women no one has arisen greater than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

This is the first in a series of catechetical lectures. Our Instructors are Deacon Aaron Williams, assisted by Bill Baldwin. Due to technical issues, the first 3:44 minutes were rerecorded and added to the live recording. This accounts for the difference in dynamics. May this series of teachings be a blessing in your growth in Christ. Fr. Michael Flowers, Rector www.staidanskc.org Adult and Children’s Catechism Classes October 6, 2019 through June 7, 2020 9 a.m. in the Café before 10 a.m. Eucharist What is catechesis? Catechesis simply means to teach by word of mouth. In its principle parts it literally means to echo forth or resound down. Christian catechesis, then, is an echo of the Word of God spoken through a teacher, the catechist, that resounds into the minds and hearts of those who hear it, the catechumen. This echo is a passing or handing on of the faith and teachings of the Church to adults and children alike. Formal catechesis developed in the first few centuries of the Church, and over time the content of this teaching came to include four pillars or four movements of a great symphony: what the Church believes (the Apostle’s Creed), what she celebrates (the Sacraments), what she prays (the Lord’s Prayer), and what she lives (the Commandments and fruits of the Spirit). Catechesis is not information but formation into a way of life, the life of Christ and his Body, the Church. Why catechesis? The ultimate purpose of catechesis is communion with the triune God. Practically and more specifically, the purpose is to pass on the Christian faith from one person and one generation to the next, just as Jesus did with the apostles and the apostles with those after them and someone, whether priest, teacher, parent, or friend, did with you. This is what the word “tradition” means: to hand on the faith. The Church, regardless of denomination, has struggled to do this in our post-Christian age. The numbers are staggering of those who grew up in the faith but have now left. We are daily immersed in a secular culture and story, a world where God is either privatized or anesthetized. The goal of catechesis is to immerse us – adults and children – into an alternative story and culture, the kingdom of God, and form us into an alternative way of being, the life and love of the triune God. No one baptizes himself, likewise no one catechizes himself. We all receive the faith with its teachings as gift from those who have gone before us. The purpose of catechesis is to create missionary disciples, who receive the gift of the Gospel from spiritual fathers and mothers and pass it on to others. The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. Exodus 14:21-31 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the LORD drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. 23 The Egyptians pursued and went in after them into the midst of the sea, all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots, and his horsemen. 24 And in the morning watch the LORD in the pillar of fire and of cloud looked down on the Egyptian forces and threw the Egyptian forces into a panic, 25 clogging their chariot wheels so that they drove heavily. And the Egyptians said, “Let us flee from before Israel, for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians.” 26 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, that the water may come back upon the Egyptians, upon their chariots, and upon their horsemen.” 27 So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal course when the morning appeared. And as the Egyptians fled into it, the LORD threw the Egyptians into the midst of the sea. 28 The waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen; of all the host of Pharaoh that had followed them into the sea, not one of them remained. 29 But the people of Israel walked on dry ground through the sea, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. 30 Thus the LORD saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 Israel saw the great power that the LORD used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in his servant Moses. Romans 6:1-14 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For one who has died has been set free from sin. 8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. 13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. 14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace. Luke 18:15-17 15 Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. 16 But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. 17 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” Celebrant The Gospel of the Lord. People Praise to you, Lord Christ. People Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia.
Bill Baldwin is a part of the teaching team at St. Aidan's. He earned his MA in theology from Westminister Seminary, California. Icon: Ivanka Demchuk Key Lectionary Scriptures: Hebrews 12:18-19,22-29 You have not come to something that can be touched, a blazing fire, and darkness, and gloom, and a tempest, and the sound of a trumpet, and a voice whose words made the hearers beg that not another word be spoken to them. But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. See that you do not refuse the one who is speaking; for if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we reject the one who warns from heaven! At that time his voice shook the earth; but now he has promised, "Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heaven." This phrase, "Yet once more," indicates the removal of what is shaken — that is, created things — so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe; for indeed our God is a consuming fire. Luke 13:22-30 Jesus went through one town and village after another, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, "Lord, will only a few be saved?" He said to them, "Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able. When once the owner of the house has got up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and to knock at the door, saying, 'Lord, open to us,' then in reply he will say to you, 'I do not know where you come from.' Then you will begin to say, 'We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.' But he will say, 'I do not know where you come from; go away from me, all you evildoers!' There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrown out. Then people will come from east and west, from north and south, and will eat in the kingdom of God. Indeed, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last."

Fourth Sunday in Lent Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Bill Baldwin, a member of St. Aidan's, unpacks the story of the prodigal son and calls us to the Father's Feast.
In August 2017, Beth Karp (JD/MPP '20) drove from Chicago to Houston with no connections and no plan to try to help out with relief work in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. What could have been a pretty dumb and fruitless experiment turned into something amazing: an opportunity to jump into action with grassroots organizations that sprang up out of nowhere within days to distribute thousands of meals, chauffeur evacuees to medical appointments, muck out flooded homes, and much more. Social media helped make it possible. Apps like Facebook, Zello, Google Voice, and Uber have changed the landscape of disaster relief, facilitating coordination among volunteers and connecting people more quickly to rescue and resources. In this episode, Beth speaks to evacuees, grassroots organizers, and the American Red Cross to discuss the role of new technologies in disaster relief and recovery. Credits: Beth Karp for interviewing, engineering, producing, and editing.Special thanks to interviewees Aaron Flores, Bill Baldwin, Ed Pettitt, Gabrielle Bland, Mark Matsusaki, Sarah Terez Malka, Orville and Darryshia Rumble, Harley Jones, Jim McGowan, Joy Squier; production guru David Raban; the UC3P members who assisted with transcription; Andrea Andrada for vocals on our music; and the countless people who donate their time, money, and energy to disaster relief worldwide.

Reflecting on Matthew 16 and Psalm 2, Bill talks about the counter-intuitive way of the Cross. True greatness and joy is found in the path of Jesus' suffering - defined not as bodily illness but denying oneself primacy, laying down one's life for others, faithfully bearing whatever comes due to being an active follower of Jesus.
The Psalms of Ascent provide a compact Psalter within the Psalter, says Bill Baldwin. Bill takes Psalm 121 and provides the fulfilled, heavenly perspective of the Christian's journey up Mount Zion, the heavenly Jerusalem, the City of our God. In Christ, we have come to Zion, all the company of heaven, who forever sing Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord. God of power and might; heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! At Christ's final return, this City comes down as a Bride to be eternally united with Jesus Christ, her bridegroom.
Now that the creation wars seem to have died down a bit, we thought that it would be interesting to revisit the subject of the Framework Interpretation of Genesis 1 and 2. Now that we don't have to play defense as much, it seemed like a good time to give a positive presentation of the benefits of the Framework Interpretation, and to situate creation in the grand story that the Bible tells. To do this, we invited a special guest, our friend, Bill Baldwin to join us for the discussion. This episode is a little longer than most, but we think it's well worth it.
