BIO:Sip & Share Wines is a boutique winery producing a diversity of handcrafted vegan wines. We're passionate about creating community with wine, especially for wine lovers often overlooked and underrepresented by the wine industry. Our wines are approachable to all palates, fun and made to sip and share. Purchase a bottle or join the wine club at sipandsharewines.com.In January 2019, Sip & Share Wines released the 7 Words Wine Collection, all of the wines are vegan. In January 2020, we released the Gem Collection of limited production wines.Sip & Share Wines Conjure Zinfandel was featured in Forbes Magazine as one of the 10 drinks for the summer. Nicole Kearney, Sip & Share Wines' Winemaker/Founder was named one of 40 African American Tastemakers (Under/Over 40) by Sabrina Jackson. We've participated in The Hue Society's  The Black Wine Experience wine tasting and Roses & Rose' Brunch at Essence Fest in 2019 and 2018 in New Orleans. Being there lead to being named by Kiarra Sylvester as one of “5 Black- Owned Wines You Should Be Sipping Right Now” published on Xonecole.com.The Indianapolis Recorder has followed our growth with two stories that show where we are now and where we began.Nicole's serious relationship with wine began in 2008, when she attended graduate school for her Master in Fine Arts (MFA) in Dramatic Writing at Spalding University, Low Residency MFA program, in Louisville, Kentucky. Surrounded by writers of all genres – playwrights, screenwriters, fiction, non-fiction, and poets they shared about their lives and craft while sipping wine. Over two years, they would continue to sip and share wines with each other. It was there her passion for wine knowledge and the spark for her future endeavor was ignited. In 2011, Nicole's good friend Mark gifted her a 32 bottle wine refrigerator as a housewarming gift. Of course, she had to fill it! She had a party asking people to bring wine. She gave them some parameters (She drank red almost exclusively at that time) and sent her friends on a wine hunt around town. It was an incredible success. Her guests got to try different wines and her wine chest was magically filled. Little did she know, she had just hosted her first home wine tasting. In December 2013, her friend Niesha invited her to a wine tasting. She accepted without hesitation. The hostess, Marla graciously welcomed Nicole into her home. The wine tasting was fantastic, conducted by an independent representative of a national home wine tasting company. Nicole tasted new wines, beginning a love affair with South African wines. The group of women she was introduced to that night bonded over their enjoyment of wine. They decided to host a party monthly at each other's homes. In January 2014, Nicole's friend had a wine tasting in her home. The time for the tasting to begin was approaching, Nicole asked “Where was the ‘wine lady?' Her friend answered she didn't know. She had not talked to her in a month. Having a house full of guests, Nicole gathered a few of her wines then called a friend, Taffanee and asked to “borrow” a few more bottles. She brought a case. That night Nicole became ‘The Wine Lady.'Nicole guided the guests through a tasting of twelve wines from around the world, sharing what she learned with others. That night she helped many people find their way from, “I only drink…” to, “Wow, this wine is delicious.” This  gave me great pleasure. Her friends suggested she consider getting into the wine business. She started doing some initial research, then moved on with my life. She had plays and streaming series to finish writing. Her interest in being in the wine industry was refueled in Spring 2015 after several incidents occurred at corporate wine tastings – her name not being on the attendee list, her guests almost being turned away, being seated in the back and continuously told to be quiet despite her wine tribe purchasing a lot of wine. The spark was reignited. In June 2016, Nicole attended Open Bite Night, a community block party to support a friend. I mentioned to a friend, Niesha, “There should be a vendor who only sells adult beverages.” She said, “Why not you?” A few weeks later, Niesha contacted me to let me know she had registered me for the event.  There was no charge for first-time participants and they provided the table and chairs. I decided to no longer put off my dream and step out on faith. “Sip & Share Wines” was born.On October 1, 2016, Sip & Share officially opened for business at Open Bite Night: Ridiculous. We SOLD OUT of our handcrafted Red and White Sangrias (now Abundance and Awaken). The Sangrias quickly gained a following, from being served by-the-glass out of a punch bowl to people wanting more than a glass to enjoy as they checked out the various vendors at the different events where we set up.Enter Mason jars with straws in the lids. It was a hit! Then folks begin to ask to take Sip & Share Sangrias home with them. In March 2018, Sip & Share Wines became a licensed federal winery and began the process of producing a diversity of vegan wines.Gratitude to everyone who has supported, continues to support and those who will support Sip & Share Wines on our journey. sent $$$ this week to Elena & Alej Fire Recovery Fund.gofund.me/a6f12602 / instagram.com/p/CYiO_Virq9J“To give a brief recap, my best friend Alej and I were neighbors and lived in a 4-unit old victorian building. There was a fire that broke out at 4am Thursday morning and not a single fire detector went off. An unhoused man saw the flames and woke up the whole building. If he hadnt, my dog and I would have died in our sleep from the smoke filling my apartment. My neighbors and their pets would also have died or been severly injured. Our landlords have been extremely unclear and have left us unguided without many resources to navigate this situation. We frantically packed up our apartments in less than 24hrs, loaded up a uhaul and threw everything in a storage unit. My two neighbors had their apartments fully destroyed by the fire. Although mine and Alej apartments were not burned, every single thing we own has been damaged by smoke toxins and potentially asbestos. Our storage unit is filled with our belongings however most things will need to be replaced. Many things were left behind like our couches, dining tables, etc. We are grateful for the love and support of our loved ones, but we will need community support.”DOWNLOAD RECORDINGsubscribe to the podcast here: http://feeds.feedburner.com/5432fun(intro by omar)P.E.E. “Train Song” i win me over.Brin “bow at it or something” TaleaPeach Pyramid “Repeating Myself” Repeating MyselfIng “dust” self titledAlloys “Houses” Alloystwelve gardens “olympic gold” BEAN DAYAlien Nosejob “Maggie” Various Fads & Technological AchievementsNakata “everything was beautiful and nothing hurt” Bokanovsky’s ProcessSunshine Frisbee Laserbeam “Adult Memory Oww” Blackout CowboyBombshell Nightlight “Your Eyes” Bombshell Nightlight2nd Grade “Superglue” Wish You Were Here TourBlack Wine “Haunted” Black WineBarrie “Michigan” SinglesZula “Econolodge” New YearsWell Wisher “I Know Better” This is FineBB and the Blips “Lucky Country” Shame JobBoreen “Lovely” LovelyMilitant Girlfriend “Segue” Militant GirlfriendFauvely “Savannah” Tides

Filmmaker and Entrepreneur, Angela McCrae's Uncorked & Cultured, has launched The Sip Consciously Directory, a comprehensive resource of over 100 Black entrepreneurs in the three-tier wine distribution chain. Compiled by Monique Bell, Ph.D, Chief of Cultural Insights and Partnerships, the directory provides a solution to the African Diaspora's lack of visibility to the $70 Billion wine industry. A destination for consumers supporting the call to Buy Black, the directory connects wine lovers with brands, distributors, and retailers to create a culture-forward and equitable ecosystem where less than 1% of entrepreneurs of color are represented. The Sip Consciously Directory features businesses across the world, including Rusty Rabbit (London), J.Moss (Napa), House of Pur Vin (Detroit), Cheramie Wine (Dallas), Aslina Wines (South Africa), and Il Palazzone, (Italy), Love Cork Screw (Chicago), and more. Uncorked & Cultured was birthed as a survival tool during the Covid-19 pandemic intersecting Angela McCrae's media experience with her family's legacy in the spirits industry by celebrating the African Diaspora through wine, wellness, culture, and adventure. Combining her passion and lived experience, Uncorked & Cultured highlights marginalized voices to uplift and “uncork” diverse and inclusive conversations around wine, wellness, and culture.  “Uncorked & Cultured offers a space to celebrate the African Diaspora through knowledge and community. Our growing network is powered by the unique and diverse stories of winemakers across the world honoring our rich history and untold contributions to the wine industry,” says Founder and Executive Director, Angela McCrae. The lifestyle platform and wine community hosts conversations that engage consumers curious about the industry to oenophiles through video content, feature articles, and events including cohosting the 2021 International Wine Summit.  Prior to joining Uncorked & Cultured, Dr. Bell conducted a research study surveying over 100 Black wine entrepreneurs and professionals to understand their motivations and challenges within the global wine industry, finding that buying Black wines has important downstream effects. “I frequently heard from Black wine entrepreneurs that they were building legacies for their families -- most have a long-term vision and the goal is intergenerational wealth and community impact. The survey data also indicate that these business owners are vital contributors to their communities through philanthropy and other corporate social responsibility aims,” adds Dr. Bell. Inspired by Dr. Bell's findings and the mission of Uncorked & Cultured, the two Morgan State Alumnae curated the Sip Consciously Directory to foster connection and provide an economic pipeline for wine entrepreneurs of color. The stories of Black winemakers, entrepreneurs, and professionals can be found at www.uncorkedandcultured.com and to explore the growing list of Black entrepreneurs in the wine industry, visit the Sip Consciously Directory at www.uncorkedandcultured.com/sipconsciously.  About Uncorked & Cultured Uncorked & Cultured is a media company that curates original content, consumer research, e-commerce and global experiences to consciously connect consumers with brands that share the same ideals.  A destination for culturists to hang out with a glass of their favorite vineyard selection; wellness practitioners share knowledge from our ancestors; and global entrepreneurs provide roadmaps to a life well-lived. We conclude our series from Black Wine Experience with 3 major interviews! Dr. Chris Wachira and Chadwick Spell of Wachira Wines - Wachira Wines is a woman owned winery and a culmination of the extraordinary vision and effort of Dr. Chris Wachira, the first Kenyan-born, Californian winemaker, distributor, importer and exporter. Her story is about the love of her home country and the ability to succeed through adversity. While working her way through college, earning her Doctorate, and dedicating her life to Clinical Outcomes research, Chris fell in-love with the science of winemaking. She developed a deep appreciation for the sense of community and bridges built from sharing a bottle of wine with complete strangers.Paula Harrell of Harrell Wines - Paula, a California native was introduced to wine while studying abroad. With Napa Valley just a stone's throw away from San Francisco, Harrell decided to spend time getting to know more about wine, the grapes and the process. She eventually purchased a timeshare there and began working events at different wineries and spending a lot of time with winemakers. As her affinity for wine grew, so did her desire to share what she knew with others but wasn't quite sure what that looked like outside of going wine tasting with family and friends and sharing over the dining table. For family gatherings, she became the go-to person for selecting wine and it was one particular dinner and selection that sparked it all.Isiah Thomas of Cheurlin Champagne - NBA legend Isiah Thomas discovered champagne after winning the 1989 NBA Championship. Known for his business savvy and philanthropic endeavors as much as his storied athletic career, Isiah and his wife Lynn wanted a healthier, great tasting champagne without the added sugar. Isiah is quick to point out, “it had to be reasonably priced and it definitely couldn't come with a headache the next day. It took years but that's exactly what we found in Cheurlin Champagne.”Follow:Dr Chris & Chadwick https://www.instagram.com/wachirawines/https://www.wachirawines.com/Paulahttps://www.instagram.com/pharrellwines/https://pharrellwines.com/Isiah Thomas https://www.instagram.com/isiahthomas/https://www.instagram.com/cheurlin1788/https://www.cheurlin.com/The Swirl Suite@SwirlSuitewww.swirlsuite.com Sarita @VineMeUpTanisha @GirlMeetsGlassLeslie @Vino301Glynis @Vino_NoireSupport this show http://supporter.acast.com/SwirlSuite.
