An illegal dumping incident in south-east Clare has sparked renewed calls for surveillance to be installed in litter blackspots. Residents of Gallows Hill in Cratloe have been greeted this week by the sight of a mound of rubbish containing tyres, concrete blocks and various plastic items at the entrance to a popular nature amenity. 44 complaints of illegal dumping in Clare were made in April alone, bringing the total number for the year so far to 242. Following the recent introduction of legislation allowing local authorities to combat illegal dumping through CCTV and drones, Cratloe Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat O'Gorman has been telling Clare FM's Seán Lyons that areas known for dumping must be monitored.

Not everyone's on board with the end of mobile blackspots. Telco One New Zealand is teaming up with SpaceX in a plan to use Starlink to provide cell phone coverage countrywide. Some trampers have expressed their unhappiness, saying they're dreading the idea of being constantly connected. But Federated Mountain Clubs President Robin McNeill says the smartphone is going to become the number one tool for those hitting the wilderness. "Right now in North America and Europe, your iPhone 14 can send for help, tell your mum where you are, it's your GPS, it turns into a compass, a torch, takes photos, it's an alarm clock." There's plenty more B-words in this chat with the Barker MP in south eastern Australia as we discuss some hot topics in the electorate from Mt Gambier and the Limestone Coast to the Riverland, Barossa and Mallee including regional bank branch closures and Kingston SE's BankSA temporary reprieve. We unpack the approach of the SA and federal Labor water ministers Close and Plibersek on the Murray Darling Basin Plan and buying water from irrigators contrasted with Victorian Labor minister Harriet Shing and NSW Labor shadow minister, possibly soon the minister, Rose Jackson. One thing Tony Pasin isn't buying is the communications minister Michelle Rowland's explanation to FlowFM listeners why a recent 'targeted' mobile black spot funding round overwhelming favoured Labor electorates. We also reflect on recent commentary from treasurer Jim Chalmers about superannuation and whether Labor was up front with the electorate before the May election, like Bill Shorten was in 2019, on its plans for retiree savings.
The WA roads motorists fear the most have been revealed, with Farrall Road in Midvale topping the list. The RAC survey received more than 10,000 nominations from residents identifying streets and intersections in desperate need of safety upgrades. RAC general manager external relations Will Golsby said the survey shone a spotlight on safety issues that were often overlooked. "The community has had their say on what they see as the riskiest roads and I think that's the important point, is that it's the community's view of what they're seeing every day - whether they're driving, riding or walking the roads," he told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
