When I met him, he asked if I wanted to maybe check out his garage before I headed back to fort worth. Bernt designet, bygget og lakket selv hjemme i Jönkjöping på tidlig åttitall. Den var virkelig over the top alt på den tiden! Sammen utvandret de til USA og California. Der borte ble Pink Lady en døråpner hos de største custom og Hotrod -byggerne, og plutselig hadde Bernt fast jobb hos Boyd Coddington. Men det ble snart både Ferrari jobber og custom pickuper for Bernt! På grund av en skilsmisse forsvant Pink Lady for Bernt, og den var borte i mange år selv om han levde med Håbet om å finne den igjen! We rolled up to Graham, Texas last Friday oh! say about 5:30 pm. It was just enough time to get checked into the hotel get a bite to eat and git on down to the park, which by the way is right off the square. The chairs were set up ready and spread out the people were having a blast talking laughing and just telling stories waiting to see who would win this year! On hand we had many of Grahams Finest out there to make sure nothing happened. The whole town came out for this event that lead up to the Car Show that was held Saturday Morning right down the street!

This week I spoke to Jo Coddington, racer, car enthusiast, TV celebrity, and Motorsports spokesperson. She became a household name along with her husband Boyd Coddingon on the television show American Hot Rod, but that was not at all where she really gained her start in the industry. Jo was born in Woodvine Iowa, but grew up "out west" in Phoenix Arizona due to allergies that had no known cure at the time. She was raised in a racing family and after graduating from a go kart, she moved into dirt sports. Jo tells the story of her dad not allowing her to come home until she had rebuilt the race engine she had blown up. She worked on it at a friends garage and thought she could talk him into fixing it, but he was in on the plan with her dad. Years later Jo admits that making her build that engine just reinforced her desire to be involved and could not keep her out of the garage. I am back from SEMA and trying to get into a normal routine again.  One thing about being out there is the sheer amount of people you can talk with.  Its an incredible experience and cant wait to do it again in 2019.   In this episode, I sit down in PPG and Aero Detailing's Booths and interview Charley Hutton, Mitch and Tom Kelly, Kyle Morely, and Bernt Karlsson.   Charley returns for the 2nd year and we get to talking about how he looks at cars, restorations vs hot rods, the importance of the Collision Industry, water and solvent and more. Kyle Morley opens up about how he does his design work and how he approaches each paint job.  Also what it was like being a collision painter and taking the jump into owning his own shop.  As well as why its important for him and others to help the next generation of techs coming in. Tom and Mitch Kelly, talk of their start as father and son and go into the background of who was involved years ago in the beginning.  The evolution of candy paints and what they use these days, what its like working with family, and of course....what sparked their interest originally for the industry and why they love it Bernt Karlsson talks coming to America to work for Boyd Coddington, honing his skills learning how to shape metal and doing custom work over the years, teaching the younger generation how to work with their hands and more!

Boyd Coddington Jr. grew up in his father’s hot rod shop and wheel factories learning every lug nut and bolt of the companies using the time-tested methods of “hands on / bruised knuckles”. He expanded the company’s product line helping to grow Boyds Wheels in to the largest custom billet wheel company in the world producing nearly 220,000 wheels annually. After the untimely passing of his father in 2008, Boyd acquired the Boyd Coddington trademarks and brands and started an aftermarket design studio and brand licensing company. In 2014 he founded Boyd Coddington Detail Garage, a high-end line of professional/enthusiast car care products. Carrying on his father’s hard work, dedication, and inspiration Boyd continues to grow the Boyd Coddington Companies.
