Vahn Black is a vocalist based in Atlanta, and in this episode we focused on her project celebrating Gladys Bentley, including Vahn's fantastic album Petrichor. Born and raised in Detroit, Vahn grew up in a melting pot of music and this aided her in cultivating her soul-charged, jazz infused sound, marrying her reverence for vocalists like Sarah Vaughn with her love of producers like J Dilla. We talked about her musical education, her career path, her research into Black history and culture, her joy of collecting vinyl and some of her other creative outlets. It was interesting to hear about her contrasting experiences with work, life and music in Detroit, New York and Atlanta. As a composer Black has lent her artistry to various art mediums from short films to interactive performance art. In 2023 she was selected to perform at NPR's Tiny Desk on the Road Tour stop in Atlanta, and for those listeners who are fans of Vahn Black and those who are discovering her, I hope you'll enjoy this conversation which is punctuated with her music. Today on The Neil Haley Show, Neil "The Media Giant" Haley interviews Barry Corbin. Barry Corbin has been acting for more than six decades, a career that has seen him take more than two hundred roles onstage, on TV, and in the movies. They've mostly been supporting roles, often authority figures-a natural fit, given Barry's large frame and confident presence. He's played fifteen sheriffs, several generals, a few wise uncles, a swaggering astronaut, and a hard-core basketball coach. He's also played psychotic patriarchs, wealthy Texans, Santa Claus, and Lyndon Johnson. Even when his characters are overbearing or murderous, Barry has always found a way to make them human and likable-so much so that he often steals the show, as he did portraying General Jack Beringer in WarGames and astronaut Maurice Minnifield in Northern Exposure. Known as a character actor, he always seems like he's genuinely enduring whatever his character is enduring-while also somehow remaining Barry Corbin.

Former teacher David Parker delivers a crash course in economics in his book, Income and Wealth. His three main points? Why income and wealth are two different things; how wealth can be created on a minimum-wage income; and why it's essential that government intervention in the lives of individuals be scaled back. In Income and Wealth, Parker provides a detailed analysis of how someone earning minimum wage can become financially independent in one decade, drawing upon the business and economic insights he formed during 40 years of studying economic history and principles, teaching in public schools, and being a professional musician and real estate developer. Texas Southern University hosted the prestigious NASA "HBCU/MSI Technology Infusion Road Tour" September 13-15, giving the University and its students access to unique internships, and providing faculty and staff with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and research-focused partnership opportunities. Our guest is Dr. Michelle Penn-Marshall, Vice President of Research & Innovation. The event will also provide TSU with a platform to showcase its research capabilities. Each day attendees are invited to networking sessions with participating federal government representatives, NASA Center leads, and NASA prime contractors to introduce and build relationships to enhance partnerships and maximize opportunities. The final day of the event will include technical workshops catering to those new to Federal partnerships, as well as to those who are more seasoned, to assist participants in strengthening their organization's readiness to apply for NASA funding.

We gained incredible knowledge from community members and made life long memories that we hope to share with future generations. This is why I think you should make a bucket list of important historical places you would like to visit. How would visiting these places have an impact on you and what would you be able to share with others?Text me at 972-426-2640 so we can stay connected!Twitter: @elliottspeaksInstagram: @elliottspeaks
