A passionate author and a man with a sharp wit and unapologetically colourful personality who shaped New Zealand politics. Sir Bob Jones is being remembered by friends, former MPs, and current political leaders. The property investor, ex politician, and boxing aficionado died at his Wellington home today at 85, surrounded by family. Sir Bob grew up in a state house and made his riches in the world of property. Former Act MP and friend of his, Deborah Coddington told Heather du Plessis-Allan his actions were different from his words, which you shouldn't take too seriously. She says he was very generous with his money, offering a scholarship for refugees to go to university. Coddington says he was a realist, who always found the funny side of life. She describes him as very well read, clued-in about world affairs and politics, and a good writer. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We drove the 3 hours to Greenville, NY to cover the Ultra Viking 8 Hour (Northeast Ultra Cup Finale)/ Final Raid/ whatever we called their last event! The race director Asa Coddington aka OCR Yoda has been a prominant member in the OCR community here in the northeast so it was a big blow that he announced that his last event would been this year. Known for very difficult and historic obstacles, interesting penalties, and excellent medals the loss of this race will have a large impact on the sport. There was also a night trail race that we ran and covered that event as well. We had the pleasure of interviewing Letdown. over Zoom video!Alt-rock sensation Letdown. returns with yet another captivating and irresistibly catchy track. The Chicago/Nashville-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has unleashed his latest hit-you-in-the-feels single, “Raincoat”, released via Big Loud Rock. The song is the latest offering from Letdown.'s much-anticipated debut album due out later this year. Introduced by a simple percussive beat and the electric twang of a plucked guitar, “Raincoat” storms onto the scene as an anthemic storytelling of roller coaster relationships. Featuring bold, pointed lyrics such as, ‘Apologize a thousand times a week now,' the track gains momentum, steadily evolving into a punk-infused crescendo. Driven by punchy drums, the song is underscored by the roaring of a crowd begging the question, “What did I do this time?”.When asked about the inspiration behind the song, Letdown. revealed that it explores "the bittersweet dance of two individuals trapped in a relationship they both yearn to escape. 'Raincoat' encapsulates the torment of a relationship riddled with apologies yet devoid of solutions, exploring the intricate dynamics of remaining in a situation neither party truly enjoys. It vividly portrays the struggles and contradictions inherent in toxic relationships."The new tune follows the success of Letdown.'s last single, "Hate Myself," which is currently making waves on Alternative Radio as the #1 Most Added Track its first week at the format and climbing to #32 on the Mediabase Alternative chart where it currently sits. This is his second impressive showing at radio with earlier hit, "Crying In The Shower," peaking inside the Top 20 at U.S. Alternative Radio.Letdown. expanded his global audience significantly last year through tours across Europe and the U.S., along with captivating performances at festivals such as Summerfest, Louder Than Life, and Aftershock. Letdown. will be hitting the road this summer performing on the Idobi Radio Summer School tour alongside Stand Atlantic, Magnolia Park, The Home Team, Scene Queen, and Honey Revenge.ABOUT LETDOWN.Letdown. (period included) may have started as a pandemic project for Blake Coddington, but the Chicago/Nashville-based rocker is in a very different place in 2023. Having spent the last three years cultivating a fervent fan base through a number of single releases and emerging as a striking live act — finally bringing his music into the physical lives of his online fans across several sold-out, headlining shows this past year — Coddington is rapidly growing his presence away from the internet for the first time in Letdown.'s short history. The powerful vocals and emotional lyrics over catchy, upbeat drums and guitars originally served as a cathartic way for the songwriter to express himself while working a dead-end job that he hated. But 2022 saw Letdown. being signed to Big Loud Rock and moving beyond his beginnings as a viral, at-home musician. This year, however, represents a whole new start for the vocalist, or as Coddington himself puts it: “It's Season II of Letdown., and it's definitely the biggest chapter yet.”It was just three years ago that he began throwing videos on YouTube expecting to get a few hundred views, yet now he's become a known and respected musical commodity both in-person and online with over 660K followers and 5.5M likes on TikTok, 47+ million views on his YouTube channel, over 100+ million overall artist streams and editorial playlisting from the likes of Spotify's All New Rock, New Noise, Rock Out and Rock Hard.Chronicling Coddington's internal struggle as he searches for answers in times of darkness, uncertainty and self-doubt, his 2023 EP Crying In The Shower features a collection of stadium-sized singles led by the title track that is the perfect example of the wild, emotional ride that Letdown. enjoys taking his fans on. Behind the reactive hook and catchy rhythm, Letdown. navigates listeners through the experience and inner turmoil of trying to get over someone you can't forget. With the release of the EP, Coddington remains thrilled for the development of Letdown. as well as having the opportunity to connect with those who have found solace in his powerful online community. We want to hear from you! Despite some serious challenges, Anna Coddington has created a bilingual album for the dancefloor. She celebrates with Charlotte Ryan.
After a chaotic 18-month period, Kiwi musician Anna Coddington has returned with a new album. Coddington's Te Whakamiha embraces an upbeat sound, several years after her more subdued work in 2020's Beams. She says she struggled with her home being caught up in the Auckland floods and her case of long Covid- but she's working to build her strength up. "It just felt like the right time to try and reach for that sound, cause I've got a great band - we have an awesome time together, it's so much fun... it just felt like a good time to make a fun album." Although rap currently stands at the center of American music, for much of the genre's history, its relationship to the charts was...fraught. Radio was notoriously reluctant to play the brash new style, and major labels took over a decade to embrace its commercial potential. So how did hip hop make it? How did it grow from a regional fluke into a global phenomenon? To learn more, we spoke to Amy Coddington, the author of "How Hip Hop Became Hit Pop: Radio, Rap, and Race." Her work recovers rap's tortuous path through the financialized complexity of the '80s music industry—navigating around established Black radio stations that refused to play it, as a key part of multi-racial dance music coalitions, and through eye-catching MTV videos that reimagined the white-coded mainstream. The results push past the "authentic-or-not" dichotomy that defines hip hop history, revealing how rap was shaped—and driven forward—as much by pop trifles as hardcore truth tellers. After all...you STILL can't touch this.
Anna Coddington is in the studio to have a korero about her new single Kātuarehe from her forthcoming album, out in June.

How Hip Hop Became Hit Pop: Radio, Rap, and Race (U California Press, 2023) examines the programming practices at commercial radio stations in the 1980s and early 1990s to uncover how the radio industry facilitated hip hop's introduction into the musical mainstream. Constructed primarily by the Top 40 radio format, the musical mainstream featured mostly white artists for mostly white audiences. With the introduction of hip hop to these programs, the radio industry was fundamentally altered, as stations struggled to incorporate the genre's diverse audience. At the same time, as artists negotiated expanding audiences and industry pressure to make songs fit within the confines of radio formats, the sound of hip hop changed. Drawing from archival research, Amy Coddington shows how the racial structuring of the radio industry influenced the way hip hop was sold to the American public, and how the genre's growing popularity transformed ideas about who constitutes the mainstream. As the world moves forward into 2024, it's an opportune time for supply chain professionals to continue making even more positive marks on their organizations. A number of supply chain trends were discussed in this panel discussion featuring Mary Byrne, Vice President of Supply Chain at Cardinal Health, Liz Coddington, CFO of Peloton, Gus Shahin, CIO at Flex and Professor Morgan Swink from Texas Christian University cohosted by Kinaxis Board Member, Angel Mendez and Kinaxis Chief Strategy Officer Dr. Anne Robinson.Mendez shared his top 10 challenges supply chains faced in 2023: COVID-19 “hangovers”; a lackluster macroeconomy; persistent inflation; higher cost of debt with higher interest rates; an increasingly complex geopolitical environment; companies attempting to move their footprints away from Asia in a “deglobalization” trend; labor tensions in certain industries; climate effects; continued emphasis on sustainability and ESG; and a “technology renaissance resting on AI.” Byrne talked about how her organization's customers and partners are seeking more predictability in supply, while the supply chain itself must remain flexible. To create more resilient and responsive supply chains, conversations about technology and transformation will be important. [00:05:15]Sustainability can attract younger generations to supply chain careers, addressing a key need for 2024: strong talent. Swink says students are drawn to “changing people's lives for the better.” [00:28:37]Coddington believes AI presents great opportunities in 2024 Companies who figure out how to leverage their own team with machine learning/AI to improve processes, use automation in more efficient and effective ways and better forecast demand will have competitive advantages. In terms of advice, supply chain professionals can continue to bridge different strategies and collaborate with partners and other parts of the business, be agile “athletes” ready to respond to changes and new trends quickly. Of course, it's then critical that they communicate well at the ELT level to influence and educate. Most Christmas imagery depicts snow, woolly jumpers and yule logs- which doesn't translate over to the Southern Hemisphere so easily. Kiwi singer/songwriter Anna Coddington teamed up with Story Hemi-Morehouse to create 'Blue, Blue Christmas'- a children's book depicting the traditional Kiwi summer Christmas. She says she appreciates the wintery Christmas aesthetic, but found it impossible to re-enact in the New Zealand summer heat. "That appealed to me, the idea of a young kid clicking on to that and getting worried about Santa getting too hot in his big red suit and freaking out about it." On this episode, Marc talks to Amy Coddington, author of “How Hip Hop Became Hit Pop,” released on September 12, 2023. It's a fascinating study of how hip-hop made its way into the musical mainstream through pop radio in the 80s and 90s. Coddington explores so many issues: what exactly is mainstream, what exactly is rap, how did those two things change each other, plus issues of backlash, economics, authenticity, and more. As she writes, “This history is really a story about money, about how the business model of the radio industry affected rap's relationship to the mainstream. And it's a story about race, about how the racial prejudice central to radio's business model influenced rap's mainstream potential.”We hope you enjoy Marc's conversation with Amy!
