If you work in technology, you're constantly making decisions: not just what you should do, but also how you should do it. That's why we developed the concept of "sensible defaults" — practices and technology decisions that we generally see — in most scenarios — as the right way to do things. Although we've been talking about sensible defaults internally for a few years now, we recently decided to share them publicly on our website. We did so because we believe it can help organizations think through their own approach to technology decision-making, something which is becoming increasingly challenging in a rapidly changing and complex world. So, to discuss sensible defaults and explain precisely why we want to share them with the world, hosts Rebecca Parsons and Ken Mugrage are joined by Brandon Cook and Kief Morris, two Thoughtworkers that played an important role in putting our sensible defaults together. They discuss the origins of the sensible default idea, some examples, as well as the challenges of putting them into practice. Explore Thoughtworks' sensible defaults: https://www.thoughtworks.com/insights/topic/sensible-defaults

I have learned to prize holy ignorance more highly than religious certainty and to seek companions who have arrived at the same place. We are a motley crew, distinguished not only by our inability to explain ourselves to those who are more certain of their beliefs than we are but in many cases by our distance from the centers of our faith communities as well. Like campers who have bonded over cook fires far from home, we remain grateful for the provisions that we have brought with us from those cupboards, but we also find them more delicious when we share them with one another under the stars. —Barbara Brown Taylor _____________________________________________________ “Bible-believing religious people often miss the gospel. Just because you believe in the Bible doesn't mean you understand it. Over and over the tax collectors, prostitutes, and the amoral come to Jesus, while the religious miss who he is.” These are the words of well known and lived Tim Keller. Steve and Brandon Cook explore how our view and opinions about the Bible ought to grow and deepen as we grow and deepen! About Brandon Cook Brandon is a husband and father and passionate about family and relationships. He is also a writer, trainer, and business/personal coach. Episode # 202 “I want to take it (my music career) as far as I can”, says singer Sarah Moon. Charismatic, riveting, and commanding are a just a few terms that describe what she brings as singer and performer. While paying respectful homage to a few of her influences including Etta James, Chris Cornell, classic rock and old school blues, her voice and style with hints of classic rock are all her own and she drives home point all the way home on her new record, "Cut & Run". Growing up in a household where her parents worked in live music production, music has always been, in some form or fashion, a big part of what Sarah is about. Call it fate or maybe the subliminal effect of hearing her mother singing around the house, Sarah began singing as a child and landed a gig with the Rapid City Children's Chorus. She then received classical training and continued her musical journey recording music and regularly gigging at venues in Oregon and Canada. Sarah is ready to make a statement with her latest recording and bring her music to the world. Moon assembled an all star team of sorts to bring her musical vision into fruition. Along with her powerful and unique voice, the record features talented writing partner, guitarist, backing vocalist and co-producer Brandon Cook, co-producer keyboardist and percussionist Andy Korn, hard hitting drummer Kyle Baltus, bassist Allen Huter and features guest appearances by Jean-Pierre Garau on keys, The Davis Sisters on vocals, with Lewis Dragulin and Jon Van Cula adding horns to the fold. As if there wasn't already enough talent in the building for the recording session already, it was engineered by #1 Billboard charting San Francisco producer Jaimeson Durr, who has worked with Sammy Hagar, Train and members of The Grateful Dead. The record was tracked at The Hallowed Halls recording studio in Portland Oregon. Track Listing 1. Cut & Run 2. Dignity and Grace 3. Golden Silences 4. I Don't Know 5. Only You Stay 6. Almost smack dab in the middle of Iowa in the historic Valley Junction in West Des Moines lies the Foundry Distillery. Old-Fashioned Football sat down with two of its distillers, head distiller Brian Kuhn and assistant distiller Brandon Cook. The Foundry is close enough to Old-Fashioned Football that we had been there before. However, we didn't realize everything they had to offer and quickly found out how this was the place for custom whiskey. Before we jumped in to whiskey, we talked a little football. Brandon is a Panthers fan, and Brian is a Ravens fan. Given we just did our NFC South preview, we had to ask Brandon some Panthers questions before asking them both some general fantasy football questions. From strategies, to thoughts on Christian McCaffrey, to whether Bijan Robinson is going to be a top running back, you won't want to miss their thoughts. After some introductions, Panthers talk, and fantasy football, it was time to talk whiskey. The Foundry Distillery was started by Scott Bush, the mastermind behind Templeton Rye. As you listen to this podcast you'll quickly realize that Scott Bush, their extremely tall still on their distillery floor, and the architecture of the building aren't the only things that are unique. At the Foundry you can have custom whiskey made, with multiple different options on how to approach that. Make Sure You Check Out The Foundry When You're In Iowa After great discussion and many laughs, we dive in to some of their house whiskey blends, as well as a whiskey-barrel aged gin and break down some of the flavors as hosts Miranda and Justin do a blind tasting. Last Words presented itself when singer, Jeff Buehner was experimenting with an open tuning on an acoustic guitar, the same as The Rain Song by Led Zepplin. The pre-chorus, “Coins in my eyes, what will my last words be?”, fell into his lap both lyrically and melodically almost instantly. It was such an inspiring thought that the song demanded to be finished. Guitarist Brandon Cook latched onto the idea and composed the intro, middle, and outro.

Season 1, titled “The Drift That Follows Will Be Gradual,” threads together a reporter's cherished past—1980s, Los Angeles—and his mentally ill millennial son's determination to claim his own season in the sun. Jeffrey Leviton is a fading romantic, twice divorced, with visions of literary grandeur. Beginning in the 1980s, a golden age of magazine journalism and a period of unmatched freedom in Los Angeles, and continuing through the convulsions of the 2010s, Leviton grows through a harrowing crucible of circumstances—romantic chaos, alcoholic recovery, homelessness, and cultural transition—all while attempting to anchor his son Philip's precarious security. Part father-son drama, part roman a clef of a changing LA, the eight linked stories—bittersweet, sometimes funny, deliciously messy—stumble toward redemption through themes both So Cal and global: the ache of cultural drift, the alienation of the awkward and the uncelebrated in the 21st Century, and the timelessness of young dreams.Debuts February 2022.CREDITS:Host Alan Rifkin's novels, essays and short stories of Los Angeles have been published widely. Here it is, PLUGGERS!!! The FINAL episode containing our Rock N' Pod interviews. And Bushy has to be honest, this episode SHOULD be titled the Metal Mike Podcast! We open the show continuing our talk about being on Broadway, and the LOVELY Dakota! Big love to her band..."Band of Gypsies"! We talk about all that Nashville "DONK"! Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Of COURSE we have to bash THAT institution! Because Metal Mike and The Vernomatic (Metal Mayhem ROC) talk to Pat Gesualdo, founder of the Metal Hall Of Fame!!! From there, we go down the Iron Maiden rabbit hole (Dianno/Dickinson). And that OTHER rabbit hole, Van Halen (Roth/Hagar). Then, Metal Mike and The Vernomatic sit down with Brandon Cook of Black N' Blue fame. Somehow, we end up in the Professional Wrestling rabbit hole...weird. All this, and the TYPICAL Bushy/Metal Mike shenanigans, on this episode of The Plug!!!!

Last episode we continued our discussion on spiritual abuse. This week Brandon Cook shares a sermon he gave titled Forgiving Reality. In light of our arc on abuse we have explored the place forgiveness has on our path to healing from our trauma. Brandon takes the discussion a step further by suggesting that we have the choice to also forgive reality and the difficult circumstances and truths it brings.
Join us as we continue our conversation on spiritual abuse as we strive for differentiation and being well informed to identify health church relationships. "Spiritual Abuse is when someone use their spiritual authority or manipulates your natural spiritual longings to have power over you..." Brandon Cook. Power can come from hierarchy and position such as created by the influence of the business model and the church. We can decide what kind of power your pastor has. "And do not call anyone on earth 'father,' for you have one Father, and he is in heaven" Matthew 23:9 “Classically, there are three ways in which humans try to find transcendence--religious meaning--apart from God as revealed through the cross of Jesus: through the ecstasy of alcohol and drugs, through the ecstasy of recreational sex, through the ecstasy of crowds." - Eugene Peterson As a leader there is a danger to find "ecstasy in crowds," and feed into ones own hype. The Desire Line Podcast presents a message given by our very own Brandon Cook. We will dive into the Lord's prayer and it's implications on our spiritual and prayer practices. Matthew 6:9-13 (NIV) 9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.'
