Good Money: A Framework for Human Flourishing Through Your Finances What if the way you relate to money is quietly undermining everything you're working toward? Host Justin Forman sits down with investor, author, and Harvard Business Review contributor John Coleman for a candid conversation about money, meaning, and what it actually means to flourish. Drawing on 15 years of writing on purpose and leadership — and a front-row seat to both great wealth creation and its casualties — John has written Good Money, a framework for entrepreneurs who want their finances to serve their lives, not consume them. Together they unpack the psychology of money, the danger of the hedonic treadmill, and why setting a financial finish line isn't giving up — it's the turbocharge entrepreneurs didn't know they needed. John connects rigorous mainstream research with ancient wisdom, showing that what Scripture has always said about money is now being confirmed by Harvard, Baylor, and Gallup. Key Topics: Why only 17% of Americans find meaning and purpose at work — and what entrepreneurs can do about it The six areas of money every entrepreneur must master: earning, spending, giving, investing, and saving Hedonic adaptation: the psychological trap keeping you on a financial treadmill that never ends What a financial finish line actually is — and why setting one isn't quitting, it's liberating The research-backed case for generosity: reductions in mortality, dementia, heart attack, and stroke Why wealthy societies score lower on human flourishing — and what that means for faith-driven entrepreneurs Building accountability communities around money: spouses, advisors, kids, and close friends Notable Quotes: “The Bible mentions money over 2,300 times. It never says money is evil, but it says the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.” — John Coleman “I believe firmly there is no success without significance.” — John Coleman “100% of the time is easier than 98% of the time.” — Clayton Christensen, as quoted by John Coleman About John Coleman: John Coleman is an investor at Sovereign's Capital, a longtime Harvard Business Review contributor, and author of Good Money. A two-time class president (high school and college), former speech team competitor, and management consultant, John has spent 15 years writing about purpose, meaning, and human flourishing in the workplace. His work bridges rigorous academic research with the ancient wisdom of Christian tradition.

Too many Christians have the wrong idea about money, and see the concept of wealth-building as automatically evil. But pursuing financial stability and prosperity isn't in itself an evil. Money only becomes problematic when its pursuit gets in the way of worship of God. John Coleman, author of "Good Money," tells how to build a life of financial purpose.
April 30th, 2026Commitee of 300-LET'S GET JACKED UP!In this episode, Tim allows the audience to hear a lecture from Dr. John Coleman about the subject of The Committee of 300. 300 elite people that make the decions for the world. Dr. John Coleman, being a historian in intelligence community, researched in full scope the sinister forces behind the New world order movement. This video lecture represents a culmination of his findings about secret societies which form this global movement and how it came into existence. More Info: http://Coleman300.com ~Free PDF Book & Sources: http://goo.gl/2q6dz & http://goo.gl/L3wSL John Coleman (born 1935) is an author and analyst of world affairs. He has written several books and numerous papers analyzing the power structure of the world. He argues that a relatively small group of people - whom he calls 'The Committee of 300' - constitute a ruling elite who are pursuing a goal of one-world government. Coleman's books have been influential among more well known conspiracy authors such as David Icke and Jim Marrs who quote him in their own works. Coleman researched the fact that the Muslim Brotherhood is a secret Masonic order created, with support from T. E. Lawrence, Bertrand Russell and St John Philby, to "keep the Middle East backward so its natural resource, oil, could continue to be looted." Coleman has also criticized the Club of Rome, the Giorgio Cini Foundation, Global 2000, the Interreligious Peace Colloquium, the Tavistock Institute, and other organizations. In this episode of the Loan Officer Podcast, hosts Dustin Owen and John Coleman engage in an insightful discussion about why loan originators should prioritize annual income over simply focusing on compensation per transaction. They delve into the common misconception that a higher payout per loan automatically translates to greater overall earnings, and instead emphasize the importance of evaluating the bigger picture when it comes to career growth and financial success in the mortgage industry. Throughout the episode, Dustin and John break down the various trade-offs that loan officers face when choosing between employers that offer high per-loan compensation versus those that provide robust support, advanced systems, and a strong company culture. They explain how some companies may offer attractive commission splits but lack the infrastructure, technology, or team environment necessary to help originators consistently close more deals and grow their business over time. The hosts also offer tailored advice for loan officers at different stages of their careers. For those who are newer to the industry, Dustin and John strongly recommend seeking out employers that prioritize mentorship, comprehensive training, and a collaborative learning environment. They argue that the guidance and support provided in these settings can be far more valuable in the long run than a slightly higher commission rate. On the other hand, experienced originators who have already developed their skills and client base may benefit more from employers that offer greater autonomy, flexible processes, and competitive pricing advantages that can help them win more business. Ultimately, the key takeaway from the episode is that compensation plans can often be misleading if viewed in isolation. Dustin and John stress that the most successful loan officers are those who look beyond the surface numbers and choose employers based on the overall value they provide including support, resources, culture, and opportunities for growth. By focusing on total annual income and the factors that contribute to long-term success, loan originators can make more informed decisions and truly maximize their yearly earnings. Send us Fan MailOn today's PoM Podcast I sat down with John Coleman, co-CEO of Sovereign's Capital, author, and faith-driven business leader who's asking a deceptively simple but deeply pastoral question in his new book, "Good Money: Six Steps to Building a Financial Life with Purpose - what if the problem isn't money itself, but what we believe about it?"Good Money challenges Christians to rethink money not as a moral neutral or a necessary evil, but as a spiritual tool that quietly forms our loves, habits and priorities. As John puts it, “Money is meant to serve us, not rule us.” When placed in its proper role, it can become one of God's most powerful instruments for good — for families, communities and the Kingdom. To learn more visit: https://www.johnwilliamcoleman.com/Learn more about The Pursuit of Manliness: https://www.thepursuitofmanliness.com/ Secure your spot in Tribe XVIII https://www.thepursuitofmanliness.com/gear/p/tribe-xviiiSubscribe to Recalibrate, the daily podcast from The Pursuit of Manliness: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/recalibrate/id1797551549Join The Herd: https://www.thepursuitofmanliness.com/join-the-herdRegister for our 2026 Fall Men's Retreat: https://www.thepursuitofmanliness.com/gear/p/2026-mens-retreatSupport the show

Here at MinistryWatch, I read a lot of books about money, stewardship, philanthropy, and related topics. That's probably not a surprise. After all, that's what we do here. These topics are our “beat.” But I don't often run across a book like John Coleman's new book Good Money: Six Steps to Building a Financial Life with Purpose. I can honestly say that this is the best book I've read on this topic in a very long time. That's why I'm excited to have John on the program today. What makes this book different is that it starts by talking about such ideas as purpose, calling, happiness, and flourishing – both individual flourishing and human flourishing generally. How can money, and our approach to money, contribute to what God is doing in the world? Along the way, John takes a hard look at work and retirement. Why do we work, and is retirement even a biblical category? We'll discuss these questions and more in today's podcast. John Coleman is an investor, writer, and speaker. He is the co-CEO of Sovereign's Capital, which invests in public equities, private equity, and venture capital. He has prior experience at McKinsey & Company, Invesco, and Bridgewater Associates. As I mentioned in today's program, we are offering John's book Good Money as our thank you gift for the month of April. If you'd like to receive your own copy so you can explore the ideas we discussed today more deeply, just go to MinistryWatch.com and hit the DONATE button at the top of the page. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. I'm Warren Smith. Until next time, may God bless you.

John Coleman, co-CEO of Sovereign's Capital, is out with a new book titled Good Money: Six Steps to Building a Financial Life with Purpose and published by Harvard Business Review Press. The premise is straightforward but surprisingly under-discussed in financial circles: By most objective measures, we're wealthier than prior generations, yet greater wealth has not translated into greater well-being — especially when money becomes intertwined with status and identity. Just coming off three straight years like that, you always wanna protect on the downside. You wanna think about how things can go wrong. And when they don't for a third year in a row, you wanted to catch your breath and really take stock of what just happened." - Brandon Pizzurro"This is the Lord's capital that we're all stewarding, and we need to remember that as we kind of start the year off again. We have a charge here for our investors, but I think it's important to take a moment and be present, be thinking about why you're doing what you're doing." - Brandon Pizzurro"We are people under authority and it's easy to forget that sometimes. When we receive word from God, whether that be through scripture, whether that be through prayer or insight or inspiration, we are intended to execute against that will." - John ColemanAbout the Guests:Brandon Pizzurro serves as Managing Director at GuideStone Capital Management in Dallas, Texas, bringing sophisticated market analysis with a faith-driven perspective on stewardship and investing. God doesn't want your crap. He calls us to be excellent." - Chad Gundersen"Christians yielded culture, then got mad when culture went bad. Fine, it's risky, but is it worth the risk?" - Chris Juen"Platforms, not projects. How do you get around the most excellent people in the industry who have a slate of content and invest in that diversified platform?" - John ColemanAbout the Guests:Chris Juen and Chad Gundersen are the co-founders of Out of Order Studios and executive producers of The Chosen, the largest crowdfunded media project in history. Join host Justin Forman as he sits down with John Coleman, a leading investor in faith-driven entertainment, on the set of The Chosen to explore the explosive growth happening in faith and family content. This conversation reveals how Christians are reclaiming their place as culture-shapers through strategic capital deployment in Hollywood.Key Topics: • The shift from philanthropic "passion projects" to commercially viable platform-based investing in entertainment • How Wonder Project raised $100 million from faith-driven investors to unlock hundreds of millions more from Amazon and Sony • Why investing in platforms (not individual projects) creates sustainable cultural impact • The business infrastructure required to make faith-driven content commercially successful • How to apply private equity rigor to entertainment investing while maintaining creative authenticityPowerful Quotes:"My philosophy right now is bet on platforms, not projects. How can I ally with teams that are producing at the highest level of what they do and allow them to do the hard work of sorting through projects across multiple different projects." - John Coleman"The studio system puts $250 billion into content around the world every year. A lot of people have made a great deal of money in these production studios, but Christians had not really cracked the code." - John Coleman"If these projects are philanthropic, that money runs out one day. If you can create a return on investment consistently enough to get institutions confident in this as an asset class, that will unleash more capital." - John ColemanAbout John Coleman:John Coleman is a leading investor in the faith-driven entertainment space, helping to raise capital for platforms like Wonder Project that partner with major studios including Amazon Prime Video and Sony. His investment philosophy emphasizes backing proven teams and platforms rather than individual projects, applying venture capital rigor to create commercially sustainable faith-driven content. Coleman believes that by applying business discipline to entertainment investing, the faith community can unlock institutional capital and create a self-sustaining ecosystem that shifts culture while generating market-rate returns for investors.
Join hosts Richard Cunningham and John Coleman alongside special guest Tim Macready for FDI's October Marks on the Markets episode. This roundtable discussion examines Q4 2025's complex investment landscape: Fed rate cuts colliding with government shutdowns, sticky inflation at 2.9%, and markets continuing their remarkable 14% year-to-date climb despite mounting uncertainties.Key Topics:Federal rate cuts and their impact on private credit markets and real estateThe bifurcation of the US economy: wealth creation at the top versus challenges for lower-income householdsAI revolution's early effects on employment across different sectors and wage bandsPrivate markets landscape: venture capital resurgence, private equity stagnation, and real estate headwindsTariffs, H-1B visa changes, and the reshoring debate's practical implicationsFaith-driven investing movement update: growth in ETF options, impact measurement frameworks, and theological deepeningNotable Quotes:"The workforce in this country is so mobile relative to other parts of the world, willing to move for economic reasons... there's so much entrepreneurial drive, and this impetus to create and create new ideas and new products." - Tim Macready"I'm of the personal opinion it would actually be quite healthy for financial markets if we saw a 10, 15% correction over the next 12 months or so concentrated in those really highly valued growth stocks at the top end." - John Coleman"We're seeing more products, more assets, more options. We're also seeing a deepening of the recognition of integrity, impact integrity, of authenticity, of being able to articulate not just, hey, we're a Christian organization and we're investing, but what that means in practice." - Tim MacreadyEpisode Description:As Q4 2025 begins, faith-driven investors face a paradox: soaring public markets alongside economic bifurcation, technological disruption, and policy uncertainty. This October Marks on the Market episode brings together three seasoned investors to dissect what's really happening beneath the surface of headline numbers.Richard Cunningham, John Coleman, and Tim Macready examine the Fed's recent rate cut against the backdrop of a government shutdown, 3.8% GDP growth, and inflation that refuses to fully retreat. The conversation moves beyond macro headlines to explore what matters for faith-driven capital deployment: Are small and mid-cap stocks finally poised for their moment? How will AI's early employment impacts ripple through different economic strata? What does authentic impact measurement look like as the faith-driven investing movement matures? The discussion tackles private markets with particular nuance. Venture capital is resurging as IPO markets reopen, but private equity remains sluggish as firms wait for better exit conditions. Real estate continues working through its post-pandemic adjustment, while private credit faces questions about sustainability as rates potentially decline. John shares profound reflections from a recent World War II historical tour, connecting lessons about human courage and evil to today's calling for faithful stewardship. Tim provides encouraging updates on the faith-driven investing ecosystem's growth, including new ETF launches and the Christian Impact Framework's development for authentic impact measurement.
