‘Exilium' is the 3rd solo album from Andy Gillion (ex-song-writer/lead guitarist for Finnish melodeath band, Mors Principium Est – 2011-2020). Featuring guest appearances from Brittney Slayes of Unleash the Archers with drums performed throughout by Dave Haley of Psycroptic. ‘Exilium is a concept album, telling the story of an exiled knight. An album that we described as follows: Andy Gillion has outdone himself here, if you can believe that. Taking everything that he has learned to this point, and finding fresh ways to express himself. All via the medium of melodic death metal crossed with progressive aspects and utilising big symphonic sounds. You might be familiar with all the elements, but nothing can quite prepare you for the bombastic nature of this record. Read our full review of the album here: https://www.gbhbl.com/album-review-andy-gillion-exilium-gillion-records/ Ahead of the album release, we spoke to Andy about it. Digging into the work that has gone into making it a reality, the high and lows of the process, the concept, and how he got to this particular place. We also discuss the hard work that comes with being an independent artist, the joy of collaborating, what success for the new record might look like, and so much more. This week on The MetalSucks Podcast, we welcome Brittney Slayes, vocalist of the mighty Unleash The Archers! During our chat, we discuss the band's forthcoming album Phantoma due this Friday, May 10. Some of the topics covered during our conversation includes what went into the creation of the album's concept and overarching storyline, how the protagonist in the story is thrust into horrible situations but that hope is always right around the corner, and how this relates to us having to slow life down in modern times to truly be appreciative. On a more philosophical level, we also tackle how new challenges in life can be scary but necessary, why being happy is a conscious choice that isn't always easy, the negativity that we have to take daily in so many avenues on the internet, the positive messaging Brittney's tried, and how the positive interactions the band has with fans are a blessing for them. Petar and Brandon discuss the rapper OsamaSon completely ripping off Iron Maiden's artwork, Deicide's Glen Benton statement on the modern look of metalhead, and the disturbing allegations made against Knocked Loose's drummer Kevin Kaine (and his response to those accusations).

Welcome to yet another action-packed quarantine episode of Beats, Beards & Brews! This time the boys attempt to escape from the reality of the pandemic through the music of Vancouver-based power metal band Unleash the Archers. The album in question, Abyss, is full of fantasy lyrics, shredding guitars and soaring vocals. Seriously, Brittney Hayes (aka Brittney Slayes) is one of the better vocalists in the game right now. Check 'em out! While Dan is feelin' the fantasy in his metal, he's not feelin' it in his beard oil or lack thereof. Eric reviews two CBD beard oils from Fable Beard Co., who we have reviewed on our podcast a few times now and Eric has mostly enjoyed — the company even made his recent top five list. The Roaster, a roasted coffee scented beard oil, and The Angler, an oceanic cologne scented beard oil, are both available for purchase on Fable's alternate CBD website. Is CBD beard oil worth all the hype? Listen and find out! For the beer portion of the episode, the guys enter the world of the milkshake IPA, which is essentially a hazy IPA brewed with milk sugar and some sort of fruit. Eric and Dan sip on the Raspberry Drive-In, a milkshake IPA brewed with raspberry, milk sugar and cashmere hops, from Barntown Brewing in West Des Moines (Iowa). Meanwhile, Dan drinks down a Guava Milkshake IPA, brewed with guava, milk sugar, and galaxy and nelson sauvin hops, from Dangerous Man Brewing in Minneapolis. Grab yourself a milkshake IPA or even just a milkshake — but it better not be a malt (!) — and escape from reality for a bit with us.
