Pagan folk band Faun will release their brand-new album ‘Hex' on September 5th via Pagan Folk Records. This twelfth studio album by Faun is about witches, female healers and wise women. Far away from the cliché of the evil fairytale witch, the German ensemble aim to highlight the various aspects of female magic in different cultures and the legitimate question why we still fear the evil witches instead of the people who burned them. The album title Hex is derived from “Hexe” German: witch / ahd. ‘Hagazussa' (= the one who walks between the worlds). As boundary pushing as ever, Faun's pagan folk sound continues to evolve in interesting ways and through sheer determination, they make it more accessible than ever. Dosgamos are an Italian heavy metal band born in 2018 who have released two full-length studio albums to dare. In a world veering ever closer to the edge of itself, BLVD HVNNY is borne—a spectral pulse in the gathering dark. This is the shadow-self of Cito, known for fronting South African bands WONDERboom, El Cantante, and Absinthè. With BLVD HVNNY, a more introspective and cinematic expression takes form—gothic, electronic, and unafraid to dwell in the sublime weight of melancholy. What began as a solitary studio project—beat-driven, synth-laced, and self-contained—soon outgrew its walls. The live stage demanded more. And so, BLVD HVNNY evolved into a full-bodied force: a five-piece band of formidable musicians who now breathe life into the sound both on stage and in studio. While the music still leans into its electronic roots, each element is played live—sampled textures rendered through real instruments, giving the songs a visceral, haunting immediacy. Their evocative reimagining of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds' The Weeping Song, featuring Ross Learmonth of Prime Circle, held the #1 spot on Mix 93.8 FM's SA Top 40 for five consecutive weeks and was crowned Song of the Year. Visually, the world of BLVD HVNNY is just as potent. Joaquín, directed by Bradley Devine, claimed Best Music Video at five international film festivals, while Nocturnes added three more to the collection. The debut album, IX, is a sonic descent—a beautifully fractured mirror of mood and memory. It features lyrical collaborations with long-time co-writer Erin Alden (Lilac Sky, Joaquín, Scarface); gothic icon Ashton Nyte of The Awakening (who also lends his voice to She's One of Us Now); and the haunting presence of Bronwyn Leigh Fink on a stirring rendition of Yazoo's Winter Kills. That same track was further elevated by a powerful creative reunion with old school friend and world-renowned producer Craigie Dodds, who's masterful, genre-defying touch drew out the song's buried intensity and cast it in a bold, twisted light. At the helm of the rest of album's production are two studio visionaries: Matthew Fink—formerly of The Awakening and producer to a host of South African alt pop rock records—and Barry Berk, whose refined ear and immersive mix work have left their unmistakable mark on every track. Extreme metal supergroup Sinsaenum are back and back with a beast of a record! Their long-awaited brand-new album, 'In Devastation', will be released on August 8th, 2025, via earMUSIC. The release marks the band's first new material since the tragic passing of legendary drummer Joey Jordison (Slipknot, Murderdolls) in 2021. This year, Japanese black metal legends Sigh celebrate 35 years of existence. With a career that has seen the release of 12 studio albums, countless worldwide shows, and a relentless dedication to pushing musical boundaries, they have firmly cemented their status as one of the most revered and influential cult acts in extreme metal. To celebrate, Sigh have revisited their 2007 opus, Hangman's Hymn. A compositional powerhouse in its own right, Hangman's Hymn was notably Sigh's first concept album, blending fast 80s thrash metal influences from bands like Wehrmacht, Sarcofago, and Repulsion with classical music—particularly German symphonies. However, Hangman's Hymn was often seen as not fully meeting the band's own standards in terms of execution and production. As a result, frontman Mirai Kawashima took it upon himself to do justice to this at times overlooked masterpiece of intricate songwriting by re-recording it with the current Sigh sound and delivery, under the title I Saw the World's End – Hangman's Hymn MMXXV. It was released via Peaceville on 13th June. Doing the impossible, turning an already iconic album into something even better, Sigh's decision to re-record this beloved record has proven to be a genius move. Not only because its unique style and structure has been made richer and bolder thanks to modern technology, but because a whole new set of listeners are going to experience this album's brilliance for the first time, and it is brilliant. Skies Turn Black are an electronic metal band from the North of England, taking influence from guitar driven heavy metal and incorporating features of dance music. Their brand of metal can chop and change genre, to go from being rich in 80's heavy metal nostalgia with riffs and huge choruses to keytar led synth sections with aggressive drops that still packs that heavy punch. Since the release of 'No Place Like Home' in 2018, Skies Turn Black have added a keytar to line up, diversifying their sound to explore what genre bending electronics can add to the heavy metal at the core of the band. The result has taken the heaviness of dance music such as dubstep, to create an impactful twist to your run of the mill metal. Since their appearance at Bloodstock 2023, the band have played across the UK, performing at sold out shows in Sunderland, Nottingham, Huddersfield and Bristol. Away from the stage, the band have worked tirelessly to refine their sound. The end result being their stunning new album 'Broken Hearts & Bad Habits'. The new album puts more focus than ever on hooks, whilst keeping the band's intricate guitar work and anthemic choruses. Every song on the album exposes a vulnerability, addressing personal issues of love and lust, heartbreak and depression, as each song undertakes a journey of self-worth. Following on from the success of her debut EP ‘Existence Is Temporary', British progressive metal guitarist/vocalist Grace Hayhurst has returned with her debut full length album ‘The World Is Dying'. The album is set for release on June 27th, 2025. Starting life as a pianist before moving onto French Horn, performing with various orchestral ensembles across Europe, at age 18, Grace began dabbling on guitar with the likes of Yes and Opeth acting as her gateway drug. She proudly composed and recorded the bulk of the instruments, with other notable featured musician Robin Johnson of Kyros fame composing and playing the drum parts. Grace hopes there is something for everyone on this record, for fans of riffs, synths, slap bass, string quintets, French Horn duets, or drum solos that feel just very slightly too long. It permits a moment of reflection on our lives, how we interact with the world, the planet, society, and each other. Following a period of uncertainty (line-up changes and COVID-inspired roadblocks), Bury Tomorrow have spent the past few years laying out new paths with new possibilities previously thought unavailable resulting in a reinvigorated belief and fresh outlook on what the band can encompass. Now, they present ‘Will You Haunt Me with That Same Patience', their brand-new album, out now via Music for Nations / Sony Music UK. This isn't the best Bury Tomorrow album to date, in my opinion, but it's a mighty fine Bury Tomorrow album none the less. Whereas The Seventh Sun (2023) was them finding their feet following the significant line-up change, this is them in a brash and confident mood, emphatically reminding listeners of their metalcore prowess, while experimenting with more cleans and electronica than ever before. This album is good, and what it does is confirm that it's time to stop talking about who Bury Tomorrow were, and focus on what they are focusing on, the future. It's looking very, very bright.
