EP:193 The Fastest Way to Regulate Your Nervous System What if the key to feeling calm, grounded, and emotionally present isn't about fixing, controlling, or constantly “doing more”? In this episode of Thrive Like a Parent, Dr. Brooke Weinstein shares a powerful shift that can completely transform the way you respond to stress. So many of us believe that staying in control is the fastest way to feel safe — but in reality, those patterns can keep our nervous systems stuck in survival mode. Instead, Dr. Brooke dives into what it really means to build a larger “window of tolerance” so you can navigate life's chaos with more calm, connection, and resilience. If you've been feeling overwhelmed, emotionally reactive, exhausted, or constantly on edge, this episode will help you understand: ✨ Why control and over-functioning can increase stress ✨ How chronic stress impacts your nervous system ✨ The hidden coping mechanisms keeping you stuck ✨ What it means to expand your window of tolerance ✨ Practical ways to feel more regulated, present, and peaceful Through her work inside the Thrive programs, Dr. Brooke has seen firsthand how nervous system regulation can change relationships, parenting, emotional health, and overall well-being. When we learn to work with our nervous system instead of against it, everything begins to shift. This episode is your reminder that peace is possible — and you don't have to keep living in survival mode.

In this episode of The Birth Lounge Podcast, HeHe returns for her first newly recorded show since maternity leave and sits down with Dr. Brooke Weinstein to unpack what nervous system regulation really means for mothers. Dr. Brooke, a doctor of occupational therapy and neuroscience-based sensory and emotional regulation expert, explains why being “regulated” doesn't mean calm all the time. Instead, it means having the awareness and tools to move through stress, recover more efficiently, and reduce the constant peaks and crashes so many parents experience. They talk through why nervous system regulation has become such a buzzword online, how social media often oversimplifies healing, and why understanding your own sensory profile, triggers, and patterns matters more than quick-fix hacks. HeHe and Dr. Brooke also discuss postpartum overwhelm, identity shifts after baby, communication with partners, shame-free ways to respond to emotional meltdowns, and how both parents can experience dysregulation during the transition to parenthood. EP:186 If you've ever felt like you're doing everything for everyone and still lying awake at night worrying about your kids, your partner, and your bank account… this episode is for you. I'm Dr. Brooke Weinstein — mom, widow, occupational therapist, CEO, and nervous system nerd — and in this conversation with Ysenia Rhodes of Talk Rich To Me and Huntress Wealth, I'm opening up about the intersection of mental health, parenting, partnership, and financial literacy. I share: How I went from pediatric OT and business owner to completely rebuilding my life after my husband Jonathan's depression and death by suicide in 2021. Why regulating your nervous system is the foundation for how you parent, partner, and make money decisions. The truth about “self-regulation tools” (like box breathing) and why one-size-fits-all wellness advice often does more harm than good. Why I refuse to give “5 steps to fix your life” solutions online — and what I focus on instead. The hard money conversations inside relationships: being the breadwinner, financial control, “allowances,” and why your partner should not be the sole decider of your mental health support. How women's people-pleasing, guilt, and shame keep them from investing in themselves, even when they're desperate for help. My own journey learning financial literacy after separation and widowhood: forensic accountants, building a business (twice), budgeting, and finally being able to sleep at night. What I taught my sister as she navigates divorce and money for the first time. Why I believe your mental health is #1 and your financial literacy is #2—everything else comes after. To me, being “rich” isn't about how much is in your bank account today. It's about being able to breathe, knowing you can support yourself and your kids, make aligned choices, and build the life you want — even after unthinkable loss and massive transition. If you're a woman, a parent, or a partner who: Feels stuck financially or emotionally Is scared to spend money on yourself or ask for help Has been told “it's not your money” even though you're holding the entire family together …this episode will give you language, validation, and a starting point to protect yourself and gain knowledge, no matter where you're beginning. If this conversation resonated with you: Drop a comment sharing one belief about money or worth you're ready to challenge. Share this episode with a friend who feels stuck in their relationship, motherhood, or money story. If you're ready to understand your brain and nervous system on a deeper level so you can show up differently in your life, keep following along — this is exactly the work I'm here to do with you. If you're a parent, partner, helper, or human who feels like you're holding it all together by a thread, this conversation is for you.Dr. Jody Carrington sits down with Dr. Brooke Weinstein - occupational therapist, nervous system educator, and expert in sensory and emotional regulation - to talk about why so many parents are emotionally dysregulated right now, and what it actually takes to come back to yourself. They unpack the impact of social media, pressure, burnout, and self-neglect on parent mental health, why understanding your own brain and body has to come before trying to “fix” your child, and how nervous system regulation changes the way we show up in our relationships. This is a deeply honest conversation about emotional regulation for parents, single motherhood, partnership, grief, and the slow, brave work of choosing yourself without abandoning the people you love. You'll hear:- Why modern life keeps parents in a dysregulated state- What occupational therapy sees that many mental health conversations miss- Why self-regulation is the foundation of supporting your kids- How to stop taking a partner's needs personally- Why caring for yourself is not selfish—it's necessary- What small, sustainable regulation work actually looks like- Why doing your own work often helps the whole family riseIf you've ever wondered why you're so exhausted, reactive, or checked out, and why quick fixes never seem to stick, start here.---Links & Resources:• Dr. Jody Carrington: https://www.drjodycarrington.com/• Unlonely with Dr. Jody Carrington: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/unlonely-with-dr-jody-carrington/id1708644669• Dr. Brooke Weinstein: https://drbrookeweinstein.com/• Dr. Brooke Weinstein on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brookeweinst/• Carrington Practice: https://carringtonpractice.com/• Dr. Jody Carrington Courses: https://drjodycarrington.teachable.com/ Hosted on Acast. Brooke Weinstein OTD, OTR/L keeps it real about Mamahood, tips, and tricks to childhood development, and how to live in your mama truth. Brooke is a Doctor of occupational therapy. With over a decade of experience, Brooke built a thriving business in New Orleans called Therapeutic Learning Center which focused on treating the child and educating the entire family on coping skills and strategies on how to manage societal challenges children face. With life experience, having two preemies, running a business (and household), Brooke began to feel the struggles of motherhood, being stretched too thin. This ultimately led to Brooke selling her business, stepping away to readjust her priorities, and focus more on her own family at home. During this pause, Brooke went on an exploration of self, and dove into the “why” of her career burnout. The ah-ha moment came when she recognized the missing link between treating children, and parent education. “We as mothers need support and guidance to get through this life. It's simply too much to do on our own. Having support as a mother is what our children need most in this world to thrive.” Brooke's expertise in child development, sensory regulation, and parental connection, led Brooke to begin coaching Mama's and families through this difficult phase of life. Brooke helps Mama's tap into their individual strength, teach them how to trust their gut, and support growth in building emotional connections with their children and family they've always longed for. “It's ok to be vulnerable. Most importantly, it's ok to allow yourself this support, because the family unit begins and ends with the mother.” “If you are struggling, I urge you to reach out. Let's explore your individual Mama life together. I'm here to listen without judgment, support you, guide you to a path of living a life you love waking up to each morning.” Please go follow Dr. Brooke at Brookeweinst on Instagram or check out her website www.brookeweinstein.net --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Unfortunately, most mothers feel like the latter, and that feeling of just getting by, of pushing ourselves and our needs to the side comes from a lifetime's worth of societal and familial outdated beliefs about what it means to be a good mother. Our mom guilt runs hot, and we are firing on all cylinders for the wrong reasons, often leaving ourselves depleted not just for our children, but also and more importantly, for ourselves. Brooke Weinstein is a Doctor of Occupational Therapy who - after over a decade treating children - began to see that her skills could be applied to coach busy moms how to fall in love with their lives again. How to thrive, not just survive. How to ditch mom guilt and effectively step into a better version of herself for all parties involved. Tune in to find out how you can too!For full show notes, visit www.themomfeed.com

Brooke is a Doctor of occupational therapy. With over a decade of experience, Brooke built a thriving business in New Orleans called Therapeutic Learning Center which focused on treating the child and educating the entire family on coping skills and strategies to manage the societal challenges children face. With life experience, having two preemies, running a business (and household), Brooke began to feel the struggles of motherhood, being stretched too thin. This ultimately led to Brooke selling her business, stepping away to readjust her priorities, and focus more on her own family at home. View the show notes here: http://amyinnes.com/2020/11/17/podcast-episode-twenty-one/ During this episode, I chat to Brooke about her journey through falling back in love with herself and her life. Brooke shares her personal journey around stepping into her true self. She talks about growing up in a wonderful, supportive environment but her life was planned out and how she 'should' be living. She went about her life with that 'should' mindset but it left her longing for more. She would wake up in the morning thinking that this is the life she wanted but something is missing. She felt exhausted, depleted and longed for more. The work that she wanted to do was the work she needed to do on herself. Brooke opens up about feeling so afraid of wanting to fit in and letting that inner critic voice own who she was. She held back because she wanted that external validation from everything she did. Brooke shares about how she worked through letting go of the stories that she was telling herself, how it allowed her to step into her presence and own who she is. Brooke offers advice about how we can allow ourselves to give ourselves what we want instead of asking for permission from someone else. The power behind catching your inner critic's words, acknowledging what they are saying then flipping them into positive. Throughout this episode we discuss game changing parenting advice that will help you feel less stressed and overwhelmed. Like taking care of yourself, carving out your needs and wants. So that you can recharge and be more able emotionally to take care of your children's needs. Brooke talks about sensuality, what it is and how it can be in the form of movement, what you wear or who you are in the bedroom.
