Want to Take Cross Country Road Trip Together? How many times have you guys thought about traveling? Not just a weekend getaway or a vacation, but really seeing another place? What's stopping you? These last few years with the pandemic have been..well, alot. We've had lockdowns, restrictions, and having to adjust work for the norm. On top of that, if you have kids, school looked completely different. While we're understandably cautious and keeping an eye on things, I believe many of us are also hoping not just to travel like before but want to try something different. That Trip Advisor survey I mentioned last week about travel trends highlighted that more people wanted to explore different locations. It was less about visiting tourist traps and more about embracing their destination's uniqueness. That's why I'd think you enjoyed my interview with Derek and Carrie Olsen. Years ago, they, along with their then toddler, took a cross-country trip with their trusty travel trailer. Even now, it's one of my favorite interviews. They're a sweet couple but they also had some fantastic tips and thoughts on how to simplify things and have a true family adventure. So whether you're thinking about taking an epic trip or pivoting in your career or life, I think you'll enjoy this chat. In this episode, we get into: how Derek and Carrie prepare for this trip how you can purge and shed your stuff to either get rid of the clutter or make some money how you stay motivated so you can achieve your goal I hope you enjoy! It started with ideas. Dr. Melissa Detweiler, a small animal veterinarian in a Midwestern small town, had a lot of them, and writing blogs, commentary and opinion seemed like the route. But she didn't know, as a veterinarian, which audience to tackle first: pet owners or those "in the profession," vet med."I wanted to say the things [in my blogs] to pet parents that maybe I held back from saying in the exam room," she says. Then she started writing pieces for veterinary magazines to her peers. Her podcasting took a similar route, with her first podcast ("This Vet's Voice") aimed at veterinary clients, but her next aimed squarely at the emotional challenges of life for veterinary professionals ("DVM Divas").Originally, it seemed a far-off idea. Audio snippets, sure, but a podcast? "Who can do that? That's not something little ol' me can do with my iPhone and earbuds," she says. "I used the voice memo app on my phone [for my first audio]."And she says she was terrified at the outset, using a podcast alter ego name. Pet owners can get pretty bent out of shape online about things involving their pets. "[The alter ego] was my security blanket," Melissa says. "I can kind of hide under this umbrella here. It felt like it freed me up a little bit."Now, well, she's out there, with two partners-in-crime (although it's not about crime, people) on her latest podcast.Find out how she got more comfortable with her voice on audio, how she and her podcasting partners manage the conversation and what small-town America thinks of it. (PHOTO CREDIT "File:Veterinary Office with dog.JPG" by MarkBuckawicki is licensed under CC0 1.0)WANT TO KNOW MORE?> Voiceover work is getting heavily advertised these days in work-for-home pandemic times. Melissa says she took an online course from Carrie Olsen, and she found it helpful in her podcasting.

Carrie Olsen is one of the original inspirations for this podcast and the idea of using a skillset to pursue a career and lifestyle that most people only dream of. Not only did Carrie leverage her corporate skills to pursue the craft of voiceover acting as a business from the beginning but she used the same skills to create courses and a model to teach others how to navigate the industry and pursue their own dreams. We pack a lot of information into this interview and whether you or someone you know is interested in voiceover as a career, you'll be inspired by Carrie's approach to a new industry, her commitment to the craft and business and optimizing her existing skills and expertise to create an entirely new career for herself.
I am bringing my friend Carrie Olsen onto the show to talk about her very unique career she has created for herself as a voiceover actress. Fun Fact: When I met Carrie she was traveling across the United States with her husband and newborn in a motorhome and made a pit stop in Phoenix. At that time she had turned the RV shower into a recording booth and she was working as a voiceover actress on the road! Carrie has worked extremely hard to get to where she is today, but she also believes anyone can become a voiceover actor...especially with the lack of voiceover actors and the demand of voiceover in anything from commercials you hear on Pandora to the voice of the automated checkout cashier at the grocery store. Here are some of the things Carrie and I discuss in this episode: How she got started Where people can find work as a voiceover artist The future of becoming a voiceover talent The amount of money people can generate early on as a voiceover actor The first step to getting started All the show notes, links and anything Carrie and I mentioned can be found at https://www.moneypeach.com/session96
