On today's episode we are using a different format. I originally planned to host Claudia Thompson to talk about her experiences as a Black woman running in and around Boston. As we did a pre-interview for an episode, I realized that I wanted to listen and learn without interjecting myself into the conversation. And so I felt that this episode should about Black women having this discussion while the rest of us listen. I invited my friends and Co-founders of TrailblazeHers Run Co, Lizzy Rock, Frances Ramirez, and Abeo Christa to join Claudia on this episode to talk about their experiences. TrailblazHers Run Co. is an organization that is committed to building and nurturing the diversity in sisterhood. They host monthly meet-ups called Self Care Sunday's and an annual Bra Run used to empower women of all shapes and sizes to feel comfortable in their bodies while running in a sports bra. Claudia is the president of Claudia Connects, a personal and professional training, development, and networking events company. She is a dancer, runner, and all-around fitness enthusiast. Listening to them chat feels like you are sitting in on 3 old friends catching up, and it’s both pure joy and wonderfully honest. Thank you to Tywon, Claudia and Vinnie, and thank you for listening!
"You're the one. If you want to do something...you're the one that's going to do it." My greatest wish for my daughter is that she never lacks confidence. Some people are born with it, but for others, cultivating confidence takes work — it's like a muscle that has to be flexed repeatedly in order to get stronger. Claudia Thompson is the president of Claudia Connects, a personal and professional training, development, and networking events company, and on this episode, she shares all her best tips and tricks for building your own confidence. She shares her own confidence journey, reflecting on being a Black woman — her mom is from Jamaica and her dad is from Panama — in predominantly white spaces. She also talks about practicing vulnerability, and explains how confidence in life will help us all on the run. Feel-Good Fridays on the Ali on the Run Show are brought to you by UCAN. James Webb Telescope (0:00:00) Over the past several decades, our society has been overwhelmingly interested in space. Movies like Interstellar, Gravity, and the new Star Wars trilogy all make us even more excited about what's going on outside of our little planet. But while Hollywood has been making movies, our friends at NASA have been working on a new space mission to explore our galaxy and how it began. The James Webb Space Telescope mission will launch a new observer telescope into space to take the place of the famous Hubble telescope. NASA Scientist Dr. Knicole Colon joins us on the show to talk with us about the James Webb Space Telescope mission and the future of space travel. Why am I Still Single? (0:15:00) You're signed up for multiple online dating websites. You go on at least two dates a week, but the age old question is why aren't the dates sticking? After a while, you can't help but wonder, ‘Is there something wrong with me? Am I too picky?' Even if you're attractive, accomplished, kind or well-liked, you still may find yourself single. Well, the good and the bad news is, it's not who you are, it's how you're dating. Alisa Goodwin Snell, a relationship coach and author of ‘It's Not You, It's Your Technique,” joins us to reveal the secret to the age old question-why are you still single despite how amazing you are? Maximalism vs Minimalism (0:36:35) Friend of the show Carrie Ann Rhodes talks about the two opposite trends of minimalism and maximalism. Body Positive Weight Loss (0:50:33) Did you make a New Year's resolution to lose weight? If you did, you aren't alone. Many people aren't happy with the way they look and losing weight is often seen as the best solution. But recently we've seen a push back to this approach as many are trying to get rid of unhealthy beauty standards. We think it's important to love ourselves, including our bodies, but how can we toe the line between celebrating ourselves the way we are while still recognizing when lifestyle changes need to happen? Here to discuss how we can talk about weight loss in a body positive light is dietitian and author Dr. Claudia Thompson. Cold Weather Running (1:06:25) It's hard enough trying to motivate ourselves to run, let alone run outside in the freezing cold weather. Our lungs burn, our ears ache, and our feet feel like frozen little ice blocks. But for those of us trying to be more dedicated to this heart-healthy sport, there are some things we can do to help make our winter runs a little less dreadful. Paul Ronto is an outdoorsman and writer for runrepeat.com. He joins us to share his tips on how to prepare and motivate ourselves to get outside and run this winter. Entertaining this Winter (1:24:14) I think it's safe to say that we've officially entered the dreary part of winter, and I don't know about you, but I have a hard time finding things to look forward to this time of year. But here on The Lisa Show, we like to focus on the positive parts of life, as well as come up with unique solutions to our problems. Now one of my favorite remedies to the hardships of life is throwing a party. Be it big or small, a fun party can turn even the darkest January day into a cherished memory. So what is the best way to go about throwing a party in the cold? Here to talk with us is Allison Bean from The Spruce to give us ideas of how to entertain in the winter.
Knicole Colón talks about the new telescope launching into space soon, Alisa Goodwin Snell shares new dating techniques, Carrie Ann Rhodes teaches us about the trends of maximalism and minimalism, Claudia Thompson helps us approach weight loss positively, Paul Ronto shares tips for running in the cold, Allison Bean helps us plan our next winter get-together.
Fifty years ago this year, I took my first Astrology class with my Mother. It opened the door to an unending journey to understand how the universe connects to all life through each of us. How did I come to have a passion for the Moon? Two decades ago, I walked away from a successful creative career as an Emmy Award Winning Hair Designer and Make-Up Artist and a 6 figure income. I was in search of a great life, not just a great resume...and life as a human being rather than a human doing. I was living a very solar go-go-go sort of life. My work at this pace left little time for all I wanted to experience and express. I was burned out. I moved out of L.A. to a seaside town in the Bay Area of Northern California. I lived in a nurturing community of gardeners, artists, organic farmers, and fishermen and watched the ebb and flow of the tides and the way the gardeners grew and the fishermen responded to the natural unerring ebb and flow of the tides. In this environment, I discovered my own natural rhythms. I hosted and created “Star Talk” radio show and a friend and I launched the very first website on the Moon (other than NASA's). These provided the inspiration and framework for my development of a simple practical system that enables anyone to harness and utilize these powerful rhythms. As all life on Earth responds and grows in accordance with the timing of these rhythms and innate wisdom, so I learned how to grow the all-around healthy, truly wealthy life I was born to live. She teaches them meditation and mindful practices while playing the Soul Song of Love Peace and Harmony, which she learned from Master Sha. This loving song has a positive impact on the children, helping to balance their emotions and minds for optimum learning. Claudia shares her teacher’s mission to make others happier and healthier and will continue to spread Love Peace Harmony to children and schools. www.drsha.com

Moon astrology, according to Claudia Thompson, gives you the following lesson: Turning up the heat in an oven to make your dish cook faster is never the answer. You end up with a burned shell with a raw core. For many things in life, there is a correct speed and vigor for which you accomplish something that makes the perfect dish. Ever wonder what that might be? This is one bit of wisdom that Claudia Thompson can help you with. You get a dose of that in today's show. The first time I heard Claudia speak in front of a large audience, she shared a wealth of calm wisdom. She calls herself a moon astrologer, but wait until you hear what that means. Before this activity, Claudia has had an amazingly diverse set of activities: This includes an earlier career as a make-up artist and hairstylist for television, for which she won an Emmy. She hosted her own radio show called “Star Talk” and is a prolific writer of books and appeared in magazines and on television to talk about what she calls lunar astrology. She looked to the stars for guidance for 25 years, but discovered that it's really the waxing and waning of the moon cycles that exert the most profound influence. Indeed, scientifically the moon influences the tides and since we are 70% water, it must also influence life itself. Statistically, more babies are born on full moons, as my daughter was. When I worked as a telephone operator, our busiest nights with the most bizarre incidences happened on full moons. This is a well-known phenomenon and is often written about. Mind you, this isn't astrology in the sense most people see it. Instead, it's truly the influence of the moon's gravity and additional light from the full moon at night. Have you noticed that by the light of the full moon, you have a very distinct shadow on the ground? Listen in to discover how you may benefit from following the moon cycle, the eight important phases in this cycle, and what this might mean for you. Visit Claudia's Facebook here.
