Ivan Cleary is the most successful sports coach in Australia. A former Warriors coach, Cleary has led the Penrith Panthers to victory, claiming the NRL Grand Final four times in a row. He's now co-authored a book all about leadership and success, detailing, as Cleary puts it, what he's learned and how he leads. ‘Not Everything Counts but Everything Matters' reflects on the decades he's spent on both sides of the game, as both a player and a coach, his mental health, and the time he spent coaching the Warriors. He told Mike Hosking that he's enjoying every minute of the NRL success. “I was a head coach for 14 seasons, and also played for 11, so that's 25 years of being in the NRL before I experienced winning a premiership.” “It's been a long time coming.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

One of the ways in which the evil inclination gets a person to sin is by convincing him that he is only committing a small infraction and it's not such a big deal. But if we understand what a big deal it really is, we would never listen to that inclination. Every single mitzvah or averah carries so much weight. Even if a person would rampantly be sinning in one particular area, he can't imagine the value of one small improvement in that area. Rabbi Yaakov Edelstein related a story of a non-religious Jew who violated Shabbat in every way possible, but refused to smoke under any circumstances. He was a heavy smoker and that's why it was strange that he wouldn't smoke on Shabbat. He explained, when he was 20 years old, a soldier in the battlefield, his life was about to come to an end. He told Hashem he would never smoke on Shabbat again if He would save him. And miraculously, he got saved. This man lived until the age of 86 and had a wife and children and grandchildren. Although he never became religious, Hashem gave him 66 more years of life because of one partial acceptance of a mitzvah that he accepted upon himself. Everything counts. Our deeds affect the highest places in Heaven. We may not be able to see it now, but it is the absolute truth. Nothing gets overlooked. We are Hashem's prized possessions and every last thing that we do matters so much. A man whose name is Ben Tzion told the following story and wants the chizuk that people get to be a zechut for his father's refuah shelemah - Shmuel Tzvi ben Miriam. His father read a teshuva from Rabbi Belsky which basically said that a large number of the rolls being marketed today as mezonot are really hamotzi . It is obvious from the way they taste that they are considered regular bread. So he told his son Ben Tzion, he wants him to accept upon himself to wash and say hamotzi on those rolls which are really bread. He also said people search high and low for different segulot to earn parnasa and here we have clear ones directly related to eating bread, whether it is the way we wash netilat yadayim or the way we say birkat hamazon . Ben Tzion was inspired by his father's words and indeed accepted this kabala upon himself. It was very difficult as he is constantly on the go and doesn't have that extra time to wash and say birkat hamazon , but knowing how valuable it is, he makes himself do it. One day, his schedule was very hectic and he knew he was not going to have time to wash on his lunch. He had the sandwich prepared already and so he decided that just for that one time he was going to make an exception and be like everybody else and say mezonot . He figured it wouldn't be such a big deal to compromise just that one time. After all, he had been sacrificing so much until then to fulfill his kabala properly. So that day, he took the sandwich in the car and was going to eat it while driving from one appointment to the next. When he stopped at a red light, he picked up the sandwich to say the beracha and, just then, he heard honking from the car next to him. The other driver was motioning to him to roll down his window. That driver said, “I hope you are going to wash and say hamotzi on your sandwich. The zechut of netilat yadayim and birkat hamazon is unimaginable.” The light then turned and they both drove away. Ben Tzion was in awe. He had never seen this Jew before in his life and no one had ever commented before to him about which beracha he was going to say on his food. At that moment he realized how every single thing we do matters. There is no such thing as “I will just compromise this one time” Or, “What's the big deal, it's only once.” Not true. Every time is a very big deal and Hashem taught him that lesson in an unbelievable way. We should all take chizuk in valuing every mitzvah we perform and every averah that we hold ourselves back from doing.

In our life with God on this earth, time is ticking. There are no unimportant moments or days. Everyone is precious and should be treated as such. Everything counts!
So, after a bit of banter around what's in a name and “does Bobby have a legitimate job title?”, Tiff and I settled into a fascinating conversation around the inter-complexity of beliefs and behavior change. Just like the conversation around the proverbial “what came first, the chicken or the egg?”, a popular debate in the self-help arena is “do beliefs influence our behaviors, or do our behaviors influence our beliefs?” In short, yes. Everything is interrelated and interlinked. Our behaviors influence our neurobiology, and our neurobiology influences our behaviors. All disciplines are interdisciplinary. When it comes to understanding behavior it's more about “and” than “or”. We also tackled some other common questions such as:What is mindfulness? What is the impact that our beliefs have on our behaviors and how can we change them? We talked about emotional regulation, the root causes of perfectionism, and the value skepticism as well as other ism's. Enjoy!

When Moshe Rabbenu came to Midyan, he rescued the daughters of Yitro from the shepherds who were trying to drive them away from the well. Then he personally drew water for all of their sheep. When they went back home, Yitro asked them how they finished so fast. They told them, a man from Egypt saved them. Yitro then told them to go back and invite him to eat a meal. Years later, when Yitro met up with the Jewish People after Kriyat Yam Suf , the pasuk says Aharon and all the Elders went out and invited Yitro to partake in a big meal, and Rashi says Moshe Rabbenu was serving them. The Midrash Raba writes that because Yitro invited Moshe to eat a meal in his home, he was given the great honor of being served by the greats of the generation at a meal in his honor. This took place more than fifty years after Yitro invited Moshe to eat with him, and Rashi writes Yitro only invited Moshe because he was hoping that he would marry one of his daughters. Nonetheless, Hashem counted that as an act of chesed and paid him back many years later, and that was only a dividend of the mitzvah. The real reward is paid in the Next World. Look at how Hashem keeps track of every little deed a person does and He is ne'eman (trustworthy) to pay back for it. A man, Joe, told me that about twelve years ago he was very down about being older and not married. His friend, who we'll call Ralph, was trying to cheer him up. He gave him a lot of chizuk and hope and, eventually, he was the one who set up Joe with the girl that he married. Joe was grateful to Ralph for being there to give him chizuk and encouragement at his lowest point and, of course, for helping him to get married. Last year, Joe's son was in camp and, one day, he saw how the other children were bullying another boy. He felt so bad for that boy. This continued on every single day. Then, it was the boy's birthday, and not only were the other boys not being nice to him, they bullied him even more. It bothered Joe's son so much, he came home that afternoon and told his mother about it. His mother said, “Why don't you invite him over now? Maybe we'll take him out for ice cream for his birthday.” So he called up that boy, and he made plans for that afternoon. He saw how down that boy was, he encouraged him, he made him feel very special and he ended up becoming very good friends with that boy and eventually made him popular and no longer subject to being bullied. On that day, when he took him out for ice cream, his father Joe received a call from his old friend Ralph. Ralph said to him, “I'm calling you now to thank you. My son was so depressed today and your son gave him so much chizuk . He came home from your house a different boy.” At that moment, Joe said he had the chills. He told Ralph, “Remember how twelve years ago when I was at my low point you gave me chizuk . And now, my son was able to give your son chizuk when he was at his low point.” It's no coincidence that Joe's son was the one who had feelings of mercy aroused inside of him to help that boy. That was Hashem giving a dividend to Ralph for the good deed that he did years before. Everything we do counts, every good deed, every good thought. Hashem keeps track of the smallest things that we do and gives us benefits from them even decades later. The main reward for our deeds is in Olam Haba but for some mitzvot , we are able to enjoy the fruits of our deeds in this world as well.

his week's episode is hosted by EVERYTHING COUNTS a duo that lives in Italian Switzerland composed by Toshka and Chris Leon. Their sound combines elegant progressive sounds with ethnic and melodic references. Their partnership began with the debut album in 2018, “The Bedouin“, released on the German 3000Grad Records, a label launched in 2008 by Mollno.Bass, an EP that still has a good feedback. In 2019 they released with Cosmic Awakenings the EP “Palenque“ with their Original Mix and the remix of well known Russian DJ Zuma Dionys, which had a great exploit, and the track “Amber“ with Diass's interpretation. Summer 2021 they released “Mbodiene“ on MoBlack Records, remix of Leo Guardo, Andile Mbili - Afraid on Wired label along being part of DJ Ravin's compilation named after the famous Buddha Bar Club - "Peace & Love & Summer”. Another successful release for them, also on MoBlack Records, which reached 180 thousand listens on Spotify, is the remix of "Mona Ki Ngi Xica" by the famous Angolan singer Bonga. On vinyl, two remixed versions of the song have been released: theirs and that of Pablo Fierro, guru of the African world. Meanwhile, there is also radio in their present: they collaborate with Pure Ibiza Radio with their Radio Show "Be with you", broadcast every Thursday from 5 pm to 6 pm. And it is precisely the radio that is the protagonist of their important collaboration that began in July with Rete 3, the most important radio station of The Italian Swiss Radio and Television, launched in 1988. They are air every Saturday of the month with their Radio Show from 10 pm to 11 pm. For Everything Counts, many future projects and collaborations in the process for 2021, as well as a great desire to return to bringing their music to clubs.
