We are kicking it off the new year by revisiting an older episode that we did on the Willard's Sooty Boubou. This was a bird that John and the team at the Field Museum were responsible for describing as a new species. We are doing a mini-series on the book The Feather Thief in a few weeks, so we wanted to share an episode that highlighted what John and Shannon do at the Field Museum before we kick that off. Bird specimen at The Field Museum led to describing the new species, and John tells us about his trips to Africa to study this new species. Join John Bates, Shannon Hackett, RJ Pole, and Amanda Marquart for Birds of a Feather Talk Together. Please send us your questions for us to answer as well! You can send them to podcast.birdsofafeather@gmail.comMake sure to follow us on Instagram, Blue Sky Social and tik tok as well!!

Beyoncé's breathlessly-anticipated Act II: Cowboy Carter is finally here, and NPR Music's Sheldon Pearce shares his initial reactions after staying up late to listen to the album as soon as it hit streaming services. But Queen Bey isn't the only artist with a new album worthy of discovery and dissection this week, and Sheldon is joined by Ann Powers to talk about a handful of other albums that deserve celebration. Those include a pair of albums — by Reyna Tropical and Kelly Moran — shaped by tragedy and its aftermath.Featured albums:1. Beyoncé, Act II: Cowboy Carter2. Reyna Tropical: Malegría3. With ‘true-crime' maintaining a high level of cultural attention these days, rumors and conspiracy theories tend to develop around pretty much any high-profile death. But are some of these stories so mysterious that they continue to defy explanation despite decades of public attention? On the latest episode of 4Thirty, the guys dig deep into another mysterious discussion surrounding some enduring and unexplainable cases of unsolved deaths, from mysterious murder cases, to centuries-old disappearances and more. This week the guys also dish out their usual dose of 'odd news' and discuss their fair share of offseason football, all while struggling to form coherent sentences in the process. Could the infamous 'Black Dahlia' murder of 1947 be connected to the 'Zodiac Killer'? Was one of America's 'founding fathers' involved in a mysterious disappearance that defies explanation even today? Do 'Get-Out-of-Jail-Free' cards actually work? For answers to these questions and plenty more, please give the latest episode of 4Thirty in the Morning a listen!

This week, in High Point, North Carolina, trouble springs up in a marriage, but it doesn't seem like anything that can't be overcome. That is, until one of the couple decides to bring 50-60 exotic birds into the house, causing more problems. This all leads to a surprising plan of murder, put together with some close family members. The murder is as cold blooded as it gets, with the murder coming after the victim begging for mercy. But a written letter, that wasn't supposed to opened is sent to the police, cracking the whole plot wide open!!Along the way, we find out that people have strong opinions of their small towns, that if you're going to kill someone, make it worth it, and birds can't be racists, on their own!!Hosted by James Pietragallo and Jimmie WhismanNew episodes every Thursday!Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com and use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.comGo to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports!Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurderAlso, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports! British art rock band Procol Harum is remembered today mainly for its 1967 single, “A Whiter Shade of Pale,” and for almost nothing else. This is a mistake; far from a one-hit wonder, Procol Harum established itself from 1967 to 1974 as one of the more consistently solid album-oriented bands of the era, even as their style shifted from art rock to hard rock and back. In this episode, Prog John makes his triumphant return by leading Rich, Phil, and Mike through a look at a long-time favorite of his, the 1974 album “Exotic Birds and Fruit.” The album saw the band make a conscious turn from an orchestra-centered style towards a style that synthesized its whole past (including its mid-60s R&B roots). Join us we take a journey through a wonderful (mostly) album and a band that does, indeed, go far “Beyond the Pale.” See complete show notes at https://discordpod.com/listen/016-procol-harum-exotic-birds-and-fruit-1974
