Listen and subscribe at www.JustProWrestlingNews.com I'm Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Thursday, March 11, 2021. Thanks to those of you listening on TheWrestlingRevolution.com. You can bring our updates to your website...email us: desk@justprowrestlingnews.com. Results from Wednesday's New Japan Cup matches, AEW Dynamite and MLW Fusion are straight ahead in this update but first… (STINGER: WWE) NXT delivered not two, but THREE title matches along with TWO big announcements last night. We learned last night that the next TakeOver: Stand & Deliver...will be a two-night event during WrestleMania week. Night 1 is Wednesday, April 7th on the USA Network. Night 2 is the following night, and will air exclusively on Peacock. GM William Regal also introduced the NXT Women's Tag Team Championships - and awarded them to Raquel Gonzalez and Dakota Kai. Their title reign didn't last long. They were dethroned later in the show - by Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon. Finn Balor is still the NXT Champion. He pinned Adam Cole, after a timely distraction from a returning Kyle O'Reilly. After the match, O'Reilly went wild as he attacked Cole. When the smoke cleared, Balor found himself face-to-face with Karrion Kross as the show went off the air. Io Shirai submitted Toni Storm to retain the NXT Women's Championship. NXT UK's Jordan Devlin - The WWE Cruiserweight Champion - is coming to the United States...and he plans to challenge Santos Escobar - who is also recognized as WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Today's NXT UK has a Heritage Cup Rules between Tyler Bate and Dave Mastiff. Also, a mixed tag: Jinny and Joseph Conners vs. Piper Niven and Jack Starz WWE will hold a Hall Of Fame induction ceremony on the Tuesday before WrestleMania. That will air exclusively on Peacock. The class of 2020 will finally be inducted - along with a new class for 2021. The first member of the new class announced Wednesday is Molly Holly. (STINGER: AEW) A big shake-up in AEW closed last night's Dynamite. Chris Jericho and MJF both revealed their plots to betray one another. Sammy Guevara returned to expose MJF's plot to oust Jericho from the Inner Circle. The original members of the group stayed loyal to Jericho, but MJF was a step ahead. The lights went out...and when they came back on...MJF's new faction was revealed - Wardlow, FTR, Shawn Spears and Tully Blanchard. They laid waste to the Inner Circle...the final blow was Wardlow powerbombing Jericho off the stage. The follow-up to the Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match at Revolution - included a pre-taped promo from Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley. Kingston tied up the only real loose end left - saying the panic of the moment caused him to black out as the expected explosion Sunday night turned out to be a “dud”. Later, Kenny Omega, Don Callis and the Good Brothers were in the ring mocking both men. Kingston came out, eventually punched Omega in the face. Moxley followed...and then, Christian Cage made his first appearance on Dynamite - and mixed it up with Omega. Mox and Kingston will face The Good Brothers on next week's Dynamite. The main event of next week's show will be Dr. Britt Baker vs. Thunder Rosa in an Unsanctioned Lights Out Match. Baker beat down Rosa...after Rosa, Hikaru Shida and Ryo Mizunami beat Baker, Nyla Rose and Maki Itoh. Thunder Rosa pinned Itoh. Darby Allin used a roll-up to beat Scorpio Sky and retain the TNT Championship. Sky attacked Allin after the match. Rey Fenix pinned Matt Jackson. SCU was shown watching from the crowd. The commentary team said SCU will challenge the winner of the upcoming tag title match between the Young Bucks and Fenix & Pac. SCU has stated that if they lose another tag match, they'll be done as a team. The other member of Death Triangle, Penta El Zero Miedo, got in the face of Cody Rhodes...and those two will meet next week. Ethan Page's Dynamite debut was a win over Lee Johnson...but it was overshadowed by audio problems for viewers watching on TNT. (STINGER: New Japan) The second round of the New Japan Cup is getting underway this morning with a pair of matches. The tour is taking a couple days off before resuming on Saturday. During his weekly “paid ad”, Tony Khan said we'll hear from Eddie Kingston on tonight's Dynamite, and “We'll find out why he did what he did...and what happened out there at the end.” Khan was also sticking to the storyline that the failed final blast at Revolution was a result of poor craftsmanship by Omega. Listen and subscribe at www.JustProWrestlingNews.com I'm Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Monday, March 8, 2021. This update is brought to you by IndyWrestling.us. Let's get right into last night's AEW Revolution pay per view. Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley delivered a brutal and bloody main event in their Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match for the AEW Championship - but the final moments of the show underwhelmed at least some fans. Omega got the win after the Good Brothers delivered an exploding baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire to the ring. Omega hit Moxley with it and then delivered a One Winged Angel onto an open and upright steel chair. The pinfall came just minutes before the 30-minute countdown to the ring exploding was set to run out. Omega and the Good Brothers handcuffed and beat down Mox for a bit. Then, made a run for it. Mox was left alone in the ring, but as the final seconds ticked away...Eddie Kingston ran to the ring and threw himself on top of Moxley to protect him from the final blast - which may be a bit of an overstatement. The live crowd was not impressed by the final burst of sparks and smoke. Some booed...even as Kingston and Moxley were lying motionless. After the pay per view went off the air, Mox went into “damage control” mode as he addressed the live crowd. (Moxley Revolution Post Show) That clip from a video posted on AEW's Twitter. During the post-show media call, Tony Khan basically admitted the final explosion was a “dud”, while also shifting the blame, in storyline, to Omega. (Khan On Explosion) The “huge” signing revealed at Revolution was...Christian Cage. Khan said he reached out to him personally...and Khan said he had no idea Christian was NOT under contract with WWE. Christian returned from retirement at the Royal Rumble just weeks ago. The surprise 6th participant in last night's ladder match for a TNT Championship match...was former Impact Tag Team Champion Ethan Page. He didn't get the win. Instead, it was Scorpio Sky. He's set to get his title shot against Darby Allin on Wednesday's Dynamite. There was a THIRD surprise during the Buy-In pre-show. Maki Itoh was a late substitute as Dr. Britt Baker's tag team partner...and they defeated the team of Thunder Rosa and Riho. Khan said we'll see more of Maki Itoh going forward. Hikaru Shida beat Ryo Mizunami to retain the AEW Women's Championship. The Street Fight between Sting & Darby and Brian Cage & Ricky Starks was a purely cinematic presentation...with Sting pinning Starks to get the win. During the post-show media call, Darby Allin said he handled the bulk of producing the Street Fight. As for Sting's future, Khan said we “might” see Sting wrestle again. The Young Bucks beat Chris Jericho and MJF to retain the AEW Tag Titles. Jericho was pinned with the Meltzer Driver. Pac and Rey Fenix won the Casino Tag Team Royale and a shot at the Tag Titles. It's not known when that match will happen, but AEW did announce a one-on-one match between Fenix and Matt Jackson for Wednesday's Dynamite. QT Marshall abandoned his tag partner Dustin Rhodes by eliminating himself during the Tag Team Royale. Hangman Page beat Matt Hardy in their Big Money Match. Page got an assist from the Dark Order, and celebrated with them after the match. But during the post-show media call, Page was very clear that this does NOT mean he's joining the Dark Order. Miro and Kip Sabian beat Orange Cassidy and Chuck Taylor when Miro submitted Taylor. AEW's next pay per view will be another Sunday night show - Double Or Nothing was announced for March 30th. (STINGER: WWE) As of Sunday night, there's virtually nothing announced for tonight's Raw - aside from Braun Strowman seeking an apology from Shane McMahon. (STINGER: New Japan) Two matches in the New Japan Cup were held Sunday. Will Ospreay beat Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Zack Sabre Jr. beat Gabriel Kidd. Ospreay and Sabre will meet in the second round. Monday is a day off for the tour. Tuesday's show has Tomohiro Ishii vs. SANADA...and Yuji Nagata vs. Yota Tsuji. That's JUST Pro Wrestling News for Monday, March 8. Listen and subscribe at www.JustProWrestlingNews.com I'm Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Sunday, March 7, 2021. This update is brought to you by IndyWrestling.us. Results from Saturday's New Japan Cup matches and the special episode of AEW Dark are straight ahead in this update but first… (STINGER: AEW) A spectacle never before seen at an American pro wrestling event headlines AEW's Revolution pay per view. Kenny Omega defends the AEW Championship against Jon Moxley in an Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match. Omega shared the specifics on the rules Friday night. The ropes on three rides of the ring will be wrapped in barbed wire. Contact with the barbed wire triggers explosives on that side. There are also three areas on the floor wired to explode. Plus, a 30-minute countdown time until ALL of the explosives in and around the ring detonate. There will be at least two big reveals at Revolution. Tony Khan is promising a “huge” new signing to AEW will make his debut - a man described as a “Hall of Fame” level talent. The second big reveal will be the 6th participant in a ladder match for a shot at the TNT Championship held by Darby Allin. The other five men in the match are Cody Rhodes, Lance Archer, Scorpio Sky, Penta El Zero Miedo and Max Caster from The Acclaimed. This will be Sky's first match in six weeks. He's been sidelined with a torn meniscus. Penta just returned from his own injury. More on that in a bit. Sting will compete in his first match since an injury during a WWE Championship match appeared to end his in-ring career over five years ago. Sting teams with Darby Allin for a Street Fight against Brian Cage and Ricky Starks. The Young Bucks defend the AEW Tag Titles against Chris Jericho and MJF. AEW Women's Champion Hikaru Shida defends against Ryo Mizunami. Also, the BIg Money Match between Hangman Page and Matt Hardy...Orange Cassidy and Chuck Taylor vs. Miro and Kip Sabian...and the Casino Tag Team Royale. A special edition of AEW Dark Saturday night Penta El Zero Miedo returned to in-ring action in AEW with a win over Azriel. Big Swole also returned to AEW TV for the first time in months - and made it clear that she is coming after whoever is the Women's Champion after Revolution. (Big Swole Wants Title) There were a pair of post-match attacks. Miro and Kip Sabian laid out Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy...after Taylor had just beaten JD Drake. The Butcher and The Blade went after Bear Country. Both of those teams are in the Casino Tag Team Royale at Revolution. (STINGER: ROH) Joey Mercury is the latest to file a lawsuit against Ring Of Honor. WrestleZone was first to report this. Mercury alleges that ROH forced him to resign after he raised concerns about the safety of talent and the compensation they receive. He also claims his pay was not in line with the amount of work he was doing. This comes on the heels of a discrimination lawsuit filed against ROH last month by former women's champ Kelly Klein. (STINGER: New Japan) Two more first round matches in the New Japan Cup are happening this morning. Saturday's show saw the first major upset of the tournament. Shingo Takagi BEAT Kazuchika Okada. Also on that show, KENTA submitted Juice Robinson...and Minoru Suzuki beat Tomoaki Honma. That's JUST Pro Wrestling News for Sunday, March 7. SiriusXM Canada Host/Producer/Operator Bilal Vakani, Second City's Daniel Shehori and Never Sleep Network's Alex Ross preview AEW Revolution 2021. After a long gap between pay per views Bilal has largely lost interest in most of the programs and isn't expecting much. Daniel is still very invested and excited for Sunday's show. While Alex.... just wants more Shaq! While the Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match between AEW World Champion Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley looks interesting its hard for anyone to see a title change taking place right after Jon dropped the title to Kenny. When it comes to the AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks are taking on the Inner Circle's Chris Jericho and MJF you do have a solid chance of the titles at least changing hands with some intrigue around future programs. Who will face Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women's Championship? AEW didn't care enough to update their website after Dynamite so why should we? The Street Fight between Brian Cage and Ricky Starks of Team Tazz and Sting along with TNT Champion Darby Allin promises no TNT or FTW title changes and makes us wish it was a cinematic match. As for the Face of the Revolution Ladder Match this really feels like an after thought that hopefully overdelivers on the night with little to no build. The Big Money Match between Matt Hardy and Hangman Page should be fun but is silly as a concept. There is also the Casino Tag Team Match which could go any number of directions and that's a good thing!
In this episode, I talk about the latest in wrestling with Josh Taylor (@JoshTaylorHD) from KDKA-TV. We talk about The Miz winning the WWE championship, a Bobby Lashley-Drew McIntire matchup at WrestleMania, how good a Bianca Belair vs. Sasha Banks will be, how underused Cesaro is, the Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match, how Jon Moxley took a chance in his career, the importance of his appearance on Chris Jericho's podcast, how WWE needs to listen to the fans and wrestlers more, how great Rey Fenix has wrestled lately, how Lance Archer is being misused, Britt Baker having good matches, how the women's division in AEW has gotten better, how Raquel González is becoming a star, and more!
AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes spoke with members of the media prior to his match with Red Velvet against Shaquille O'Neal & Jade Cargill on Dynamite tonight. Rhodes discussed the preparation by Shaq for the match, plans for AEW Dark: Elevation, the signing of Paul Wight and what he adds to the locker room, the creation of new stars in the company, the prospects of Sting's wrestling future, the potential of NXT moving to Tuesday nights, the Exploding Barbed-Wire Death Match at Revolution and other news & notes from AEW. Results from last night's AEW Dynamite and NXT are straight ahead in this update but first… (STINGER: AEW) A BIG announcement from AEW earlier in the day Wednesday. It announced the signing of Paul Wight - better known as the Big Show. AEW says Wight will join the commentary team alongside Tony Shiavone for a new YouTube show: AEW Dark: Elevation. It was also mentioned on Dynamite that Wight is licensed to wrestle in AEW. Wight is set to appear on next week's Dynamite. The new weekly show will debut on Monday, March 15th at 7PM. Also on Wednesday, Tony Khan tweeted that a second AEW show for TNT or another WarnerMedia outlet is still in the works for sometime this year. Lance Archer is in the 6-man Ladder Match at Revolution, where the winner gets a shot at the TNT Championship. Archer beat Rey Fenix in the main event of last night's Dynamite. Another spot in that match will be decided on next Wednesday's Dynamite - when Dark Order's Preston “10” Vance faces the Acclaimed's Max Caster. We also got two new matches announced for Revolution on Sunday, March 7th. Orange Cassidy & Chuck Taylor vs. Miro vs. Kip Sabian...and a Tag Team Casino Battle Royal - with the winner getting a shot at the AEW Tag Team Championships. It took TWO Beast Bombs, but Nyla Rose was able to beat Dr. Britt Baker last night. Rose advances to the U.S. final in the Women's World Championship Eliminator Tournament - next Wednesday against the winner of Riho vs. Thunder Rosa. No one is safe on Dynamite! First, The Young Bucks' DAD was attacked and bloodied backstage by Chris Jericho and MJF. Papa Buck was taken away in an ambulance. Sting dragged a body bag out on stage to confront Team Taz - and revealed an unconscious HOOK inside. Darby Allin rode a zipline from the upper deck down to the ring...and Darby and Sting ran wild on Team Taz - Sting laid out Cage with a Stinger Splash and a Scorpion Death Drop. Before that, Cage and Ricky Starks did beat the Varsity Blonds. Hangman Page beat Isiah Kassidy. Page got an assist from Dark Order's John Silver and Alex Reynolds. After the match, Matt Hardy vowed revenge against Dark Order, and got an immediate start on that...by tossing Alan Angels off the stage. Jon Moxley blew through Ryan Nemeth. AEW Champ Kenny Omega was only seen in a brief backstage segment - in a workshop - apparently helping to build something related to the Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match between him and Mox at Revolution. (STINGER: WWE) Adam Cole promised an explanation...for his recent attacks on Kyle O'Reilly and Finn Balor - but we didn't really get on. Instead, we got an emotional and apparently remorseful Cole at the end of last night's NXT. Don't worry. Cole did eventually show his true colors. But first, he was interrupted by Roderick Strong. Who was himself interrupted by Balor - who ran through Strong to get at Cole. Cole and Strong worked together to get the better of Balor. Then, Strong clotheslined Cole. Only problem is...Strong seemed to regret it. That allowed Cole to draw him in for a low blow, rip the Undisputed Era chain off Strong's neck...and hit him with a superkick. Earlier, WWE announced that Kyle O'Reilly will be out of action for 4-6 weeks following Cole's attack on him last week. Dexter Lumis submitted North American Champion Johnny Gargano in a non-title match last night. Io Shirai is set to defend the NXT Women's Championship in two weeks...against Toni Storm. Shirai beat Zoey Stark in a non-title match last night. The No Disqualification Match between Karrion Kross and Santos Escobar was more like a handicap match - as Kross battled all three members of Legado Del Fantasmo, starting in the notorious NXT parking lot...before making their way back inside the Capital Wrestling Center...where Kross finally put away Escobar. A tag title match on today's NXT UK. Gallus defends against Pretty Deadly. Also, Xia Brookside vs. Nina Samuels. The loser will become the winner's personal assistant for a month. WWE officially announced the largest class of recruits in the history of the Performance Center on Wednesday. Some of the names have already debuted on NXT TV - including LA Knight, the former Eli Drake. Others were widely reported and rumored - but only now confirmed by WWE - including Taya Valkyrie and Blake Christian. (STINGER: New Japan) The last stop on New Japan's Road To Castle Attack this morning. The main event this morning is Junior Tag Title Match - El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori defending against El Desperado and Yoshinobu Kanemaru. Tetsuya Naito is BACK on the card for the first time since he was sidelined with a knee injury early last week. He'll be part of a 6-man tag. He's set to challenge Kota Ibushi for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship on Sunday's Castle Attack show. That's JUST Pro Wrestling News for Thursday, February 25. Listen and subscribe at www.JustProWrestlingNews.com I'm Matt Carlins and this is JUST Pro Wrestling News for Thursday, February 17, 2021. A special welcome to those of you listening on TheWrestlingRevolution.com. If you want to bring our updates to your website...email us: desk@justprowrestlingnews.com. Fans and even some wrestlers got a scare late Wednesday night into early Thursday morning - the result of some very effective storytelling at the end of NXT...and after the show went off the air. Adam Cole staged an attack on Kyle O'Reilly during the show's main event. O'Reilly remained motionless. After the show ended, O'Reilly was taken out on a stretcher. Some live fans in attendance speculated that O'Reilly suffered a seizure...and that nugget of misinformation spread like wildfire online as fans...and even some wrestlers expressed their concern. Early Thursday morning, Wrestling Inc. was first to report that O'Reilly is fine. This was all part of the storyline...and never intended to look like a seizure. That Adam Cole ambush came during the main event 6-man tag on last night's NXT. It was O'Reilly and Roderick Strong teaming with Finn Balor against Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. The end of the match saw Balor catch Strong with a no-look kick - apparently by accident. Dunne then snuck up on Balor, hit the Bitter End and pinned the NXT Champion. After the match, Cole delivered another superkick to Balor..The final shot was Cole holding up the NXT Championship. The women's tag team champions Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax were on NXT...to trade barbs with Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez. The title match between those teams is now set for the March 3rd episode of NXT. Days after he was ABDUCTED backstage during TakeOver...Austin Theory was found safe. Johnny Gargano retrieved him from a white van that pulled up outside the Capital Wrestling Center. Leon Ruff beat Isaiah SWERVE Scott...and that brought out a violent side of SWERVE after the match. The match between Santos Escobar and Karrion Kross that was announced last week did NOT happen. GM William Regal said if Escobar doesn't show next week, he'll be stripped of his cruiserweight title and suspended indefinitely. Today's NXT UK has A-Kid defending the Heritage Cup against Sha Samuels...and Joe Coffey vs. Rampage Brown. (STINGER: New Japan) A knee injury is sidelining one of New Japan's biggest stars. Tetsuya Naito will miss the Road To Castle Attack shows on Friday and Saturday. Naito was a late scratch from Wednesday's Road To show. Naito suffered the injury during the main event of Tuesday's show. He assured fans Wednesday that he still plans to challenge Kota Ibushi for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship at the Castle Attack show on February 28. (STINGER: AEW) Some big pieces - including the main event - of AEW's Revolution pay per view - taking shape during last night's Dynamite. Last night's show ended with Kenny Omega revealing a rematch clause in the contract from the match where Omega took the AEW Title from Mox. Omega said the rematch will happen at Revolution...and that it will be an Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match!!! Moxley had just pinned Eddie Kingston to win the 6-man tag team main event. The Young Bucks will defend the AEW Tag Team Championships against Chris Jericho and MJF at Revolution. The Bucks survived a title challenge from Santana & Ortiz last night. The entire Inner Circle attacked the Bucks right after the match. Kenny Omega and the Good Brothers were shown backstage WATCHING this happen. The Good Brothers eventually ran out to ringside after a few minutes. The uneasy alliance between Handman Page and Matt Hardy is already over...and they will clash at Revolution. The winner gets 100% of the loser's earnings from the first quarter of 2021. Tully Blanchard will return to the ring at Revolution, teaming with FTR against all three members of Jurassic Express. By our calculations, it will be Tully's first match since 2007. Riho was victorious in her return to Dynamite. She used the Gedo Clutch to pin NWA Women's World Champion Serena Deeb - advancing in the Women's World Championship Eliminator Tournament. The final two first round matches on the U.S. side of the bracket will be shown on AEW's YouTube channel Monday night at 7PM. That's Dr. Britt Baker vs. Anna Jay and Tay Conti vs. Nyla Rose. We'll also get BOTH semifinals from the Japan side of the bracket - Yuka Sakazaki vs. Emi Sakura and Aja Kong vs. Ryo Mizunami. There will be a 6-way ladder match at Revolution to determine the next challenger for Darby Allin's TNT Championship. Three of the participants were announced last night: Cody Rhodes, Penta El Zero M and Scorpio Sky. Speaking of Darby, Team Taz finally got the better of his tag partner at Revolution. Sting confronted Team Taz in the ring...only to be put down with a powerbomb from Brian Cage. That's JUST Pro Wrestling News for Thursday, February 17.
