The steep increase in mental health challenges among young children is one of today's most widely discussed issues. But why is so little attention paid to the role of family dynamics in creating or reducing stress for kids? This week, Ian and Naomi are joined by Dr. Nicholas Zill, research psychologist and senior fellow at the Institute for Family Studies, to discuss his most recent report, “Families Matter to Kids' Mental Health.” In the report, Dr. Zill analyzes data from the National Survey on Children's Health to demonstrate how family structure affects not only the likelihood children will need mental health services, but also whether they will receive them. He points out a number of striking findings, including how foster children are the group most likely to be using medication to treat mental health problems. Dr. Zill emphasizes how understanding a child's family structure is vital to treating their mental health, and how other methods of combatting mental illness beyond medication should be employed as well. Does your child have big emotions that come out as temper tantrums, meltdowns, embarrassing moments in Walmart, slamming doors, rolling their eyes at you or clamming up? You might be the Mama, but you have big emotions, too. Pressures. Stresses. Overwhelm. And while you are the adult, you lose it sometimes, too. How can you stay calm when your children are not? How can you help your children to calm down and self-regulate, too? Also, how can you encourage your children to obey the first time with a happy, willing heart? How can you know that you are reaching your child's hearts and that you are doing OK at this parenting thing? Jean Dean from Families Matter Most will answer these questions in today's conversation. Jenn Dean is a family coach, a parenting expert, and a health trainer. Her mission is to help families thrive. Thebest way to teach your kids is to reach their hearts, and Jenn helps moms and dads do that every day. Drawing on her latest book, Torn Apart: How the Child Welfare System Destroys Black Families—And How Abolition Can Build a Safer World, law and sociology expert Dorothy Roberts examines the fundamental racism of the child welfare system, which she argues regulates families in ways that disproportionately and negatively affect people of color. She explains why this system of family regulation should be dismantled and replaced with one that better protects children.Race and Regulation focuses on the most fundamental responsibility of any society: ensuring equal justice, and dignity and respect, to all people. The host is Cary Coglianese, the Director of the Penn Program on Regulation and a professor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.Send comments and/or questions to podcast@pennreg.org.

Spotlight revisits the recent Black Families Matter rally that was held in south suburban Flossmoor, right next door to the Planned Parenthood abortion center. Latasha Fields delivers a passionate, well-reasoned, and biblically based call for Christian parents to stop advocating for public education and instead take personal responsibility for their children's instruction. She also addresses the destructive agenda and influence of groups such as Black Lives Matter at School and the New York Times 1619 Project's K-12 Black History Curriculum in government schools – and their intent to undermine and dismantle the Black nuclear family. In the second half of the podcast, Rev. Ceasar LeFlore speaks about what really matters and Who is worthy of our worship. Using Scripture and a powerful, modern parable, Rev. LeFlore emphasizes the wisdom of submitting to God's design for marriage, family, and the sanctity of life and exposes the dangers of the Black Lives Matter movement. Latasha Fields is the state coordinator for Illinois for Parental Rights and a co-founder of Christian Home Educators Support System. Rev. Ceasar LeFlore is an Illinois Family Institute board member and a founder of Southland Coalition for Life. IMPORTANT: learn more about registering to vote here.

THE HOST @DC.RADICAL1 DISCUSSES THE IMPORTANCE OF BUILDING AND REPAIRING THE TRADITIONAL BLACK FAMILY AND TALKS ABOUT THE FORCES THAT HAVE ALIGNED TO DESTROY THIS INSTITUTION. https://cash.app/$DCRADICAL1 #thecenter #heavilyflawedindividual #onthewakeupradio https://soundcloud.com/onthewakeupradio/sets/the-center http://onthewakeupradio.com
The Black Lives Matter movement is a shallow movement, one which has taken up a sledgehammer to address a complex problem in need of a more skillful approach. Speaking at a Black Families Matter rally held in Flossmoor (in front of Southland Smiles Dental and across from the new Planned Parenthood facility), Rev. Dr. Eric Wallace stressed that while black lives, white lives, all lives matter, what is foundational and truly vital to our nation right now are strong families parented by a mom and a dad. He issued a call to Christians to stop compartmentalizing issues of race and faith, and instead urged us to “walk out the gospel.” Illinois Family Institute and Illinois Family Action Executive Director, David Smith, also spoke at the rally. Drawing from Gods Word, he illustrated how biblical truths and principles stand in unyielding opposition to racial division and condemn man's sinful inclination toward prejudice, bias, and self-appointed superiority. Dr. Wallace is the co-founder and president of Freedom's Journal Institute and the Republican candidate for Illinois State Senator in the 40th district.
