Justin and Pete chat with Dave from the "Blue Monday" podcast about Ipswich Towns last two seasons, a manager that will presumably poached at some point but doing just fine for the moment thank you! The squad still mainly intact from a promotion winning campaign from League 1 has been supplemented with a few January window loans giving the manager in game options and we discuss how this combination has helped see Town have a second straight campaign of success getting points and goals from substitutes (including some who Watford may or may not have been hoping to bring in) ! We take time to disparage Crystal Palace before looking at the domino effect of manager movement in the Premier League and asking why Sarmiento has Pete's Nan's hair!We introduce Dave to Prediction league where John includes a dump truck and farm theme and Jarvis wrangler finally makes an on screen appearance! Carl is off getting drunk at an award ceremony but makes time to give us his prediction (presumably towards the end of a victorious evening!).Finally Justin's somewhat disappointing local attraction segment shows signs of life including the Hilly Ridges of Suffolk, the collective noun for alpacas, Brown Bears, Justin's continued dislike of Ely City and all whilst Pete keeps banging on about a character from 1970's sit-com "Porridge"!!COYH!!!!This Podcast has been created and uploaded by Do Not Scratch Your Eyes. Alan and barrister Justin Levinson of 1 Crown Office Row discuss the recent conviction of ex BBC Radio 1 DJ Mark Page of child sex offences. Justin has a second to none reputation for representing survivors of childhood sexual in their claims for compensation. He and Alan have worked together on some of the most famous if not infamous cases of recent times including for example that of Jimmy Savile. Page had been convicted of sexually abusing children in the Philippines. He did so by means of using webcam and, also, by travelling out to the Philippines. Alan and Justin discuss how UK courts have jurisdiction in such cases where at first blush it might be thought impossible to bring such a case before an English court. They explain how they were able to successfully bring a claim for compensation on behalf of the Filipino victims of Douglas Slade – a British expat, in the High Court in London. They explain how practical and logistical challenges need to be considered and overcome when bringing claims for compensation in the English High Court when the victims reside, perhaps, on the other side of the world. Justin explains how victims and those assisting him must be conscious of time limits for bringing claims, and why it so important to seek legal advice as soon as practicable. Alan explains how a claim can be brought in certain circumstances even if there has been a prosecution of the abuser in a non-UK court, and he and Justin go on to discuss various cases where they have been successful in obtaining compensation for victims in many varied parts of the world. Finally Justin explains why it is important for victims to seek compensation, and what it can mean to them by often transforming their lives.

Welcome to our first attempt at going Behind the Screen, a more one-on-one conversation where Justin shares some tips and stories from his years running tabletop games. In our inaugural Behind the Screen, Justin shares the background story to his Sweetwater Bank campaign he created for 5th Edition D&D while he was hired to run games at Toronto’s Storm Crow Manor. The Challenge Justin had several challenges going into making this campaign. Primarily it needed to be able to pick-up-and-go with zero prep time and little chance to meet the players before their game. And since this game was designed for the DM&Dine Program it needed to be friendly to brand-new players as well as engaging for those who had been playing for years. The set up needed to be quick and it needed to be completed within four hours exactly, every time it was played. Finally Justin wanted to subvert some of the default assumptions of D&D and use this limited time to showcase all the different and varied ways a simple story like Sweetwater could play, this also meant that he wanted to create a story that could absolutely be completed with zero combat while also being open to the players who wanted to roll dice and cast epic spells to destroy their enemies. The Set Up The story of Sweetwater Bank is pretty simple. A tavern, run by a dwarf named Tarry, has recently gotten a reputation for an incredibly popular and possibly addictive mead. Those who try it swear it’s the best thing they’ve ever had and can’t wait to get back. In fact, many people who try it never leave and so a small village has built itself around Tarry’s Tavern solely for the purpose of being close to the mead so they can keep drinking it. However the players are hooked into the mystery, when they arrive they’ll encounter a Hill Giant that has stormed it’s way into town and collapsed into Tarry’s storehouse where all his mead is being kept. But not everything about this encounter, nor this village, is as it seems. Over the next four hours the players will be tasked with unravelling the mystery of Sweetwater Bank, foiling a plot to steal Tarry’s secrets, and deciding for themselves the fate of the town and it’s residents. Special Thanks Special thanks to Sean Horbatiuk for joining us so that Justin could bounce his rambling ideas off of him. Music is licensed through Epidemic Sound Keep an eye out on our Patreon Page at patreon.com/terriblewarriors where supporters will be getting a copy this month of Justin’s Sweetwater campaign. It will be rules-agnostic and can serve as a framework for a story set in the game of your choice. The Tangent - 97: Santa Delivered We're back at it. New year, same old crew. As always we open with Under Your Thumb and Brian starts this one off, first with Dishonored 2. It's now Platinumed. Onward with Ocean Horn, a game he completed, and you know what, the story is still shit. I guess sometimes you can't win them all. Brian ends this week with Forza Horizon 3. A genre he doesn't really understand, nor does he care to. However, the game is actually pretty good. Gary also completes a game this week and it too has a shit story. We're talking Shadow Warrior 2. Even more importantly is that Gary tried the Resident Evil 7: Biohazard demo, and he couldn't make it through. He just couldn't get to the light. That and his heart isn't make if ice. Speaking of ice, Anthony played the Resident Evil 7: Biohazard demo too, but his main game this week was Stories: Path of Destiny. It really is just like a choose your own adventure book. Good luck getting it all right on the first try! Finally Justin. Pokemon was on his agenda this week with a second play through. Although he may have needed some help from someone... Then comes the Overwatch discussion. A new map this week -- Oasis. Good band too. The Drunken News talks this week about Zelda launching on time (in the US at least), Eternal Darkness trademarks, a porn DVD in a Splatoon box, and Diablo 1-style dungeons in Diablo 3. Episode IX: A Profound Hatred Of (James LeGros And Ron Perl)Man, or: How We Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The C.H.U.D.s Greetings, children of the sun, and welcome back to another deliciously terrifying episode of Horror Business, the podcast that is coming to get you regardless of your being named Barbara or not. We are almost at double digits here, and you know what that means: we’re through the looking glass here, people. In this episode we discuss the concept of the ecological as horror, specifically the horrific that is the result of man’s hubris and meddling with what ought not to be meddled with. Our films for this episode were 1984’s C.H.U.D., and 2006’s The Last Winter. We begin the episode by talking about several films we have seen since the last recording. We first discuss The Darkness and the two hours neither of us are ever getting back from the garbage heap waste of celluloid that it was. Then Liam talks about the overabundance of butts and underabundance of seagulls in The Shallows. Finally Justin talks about the true evil of The Conjuring 2: Ed and Lorraine Warren and the crocks of shit they’ve served the gullible for the past fifty years. Because only on Horror Business will you find someone who gets upset about stuff like that. Up first is C.H.U.D. The film as a metaphor for various issues in the 1980s is discussed, namely the parallels between the plot of this film (marginalized group of people are inflicted with a problem and society as a whole ignores it until it begins to affect the middle/upper class) and the AIDS epidemic. Likewise, the film as the embodiment of American anxiety, mistrust, and suspicion towards the government in the Reagan era is discussed. Included with this is the disdain for lower class urban citizens by the government during this time. The particular aesthetics of New York City and its portrayal during this time as the embodiment of urban decay and the centrality of that portrayal in this film are examined. The various quirks and eccentricities of the film (cops going after the Chuds with flamethrowers in a sewer, the overwhelming incompetence of those in authority in response to the Chuds, government officials deciding that “gas” is the best way to handle the Chuds, John Goodman, etc.) are discussed. Next is 2006’s The Last Winter. This segment opens up with Justin’s strange confession that he thought Larry Fessenden was an extra in the remake of Night Of The Living Dead. A brief retrospective of Liam’s familiarity with Fessenden’s work follows. The similarity to C.H.U.D in that there is an external force threatening the characters that is wholly brought on and enabled by the ignorance and inactions of the characters. The parallels between Ron Perlman’s character in the film and the Bush administration are discussed, in that both have an attitude that is skeptical of climate science and the effects carbon emission have on the climate and are instead pushing for policies that would put the climate second and profit first. Likewise, the ignorance several characters have in the face of overwhelming evidence that climate change is a phenomenon caused by human activity is painted as a metaphor for the ignorance many have on the matter in real life. A discussion of Fessenden’s shortcomings as a filmmaker follows, namely the quality of the special effects used in the movie, Fessenden’s method of showing horrific events off screen, some of the clumsy cinematography and the unfortunate way the film seems to unravel towards the end. Finally, the way Fessenden drives home the very real terror of climate change by making a seemingly rational character seem insane by the data he’s receiving is discussed. As always thanks to everyone and anyone who checked this episode out, or shared a tweet/shared a post on FB/gave us love by recommending us to someone. We love you forever for listening.
