Send us a textWhat shapes us as fathers? For Kyle Rampy, Vice President, Central Region, at Tier 4 Group and father of four children under ten, the answer lies in embracing the light and shadow of his past.In this heartfelt conversation, Kyle takes us through his journey from a childhood fractured by divorce at age four to building a stable, values-driven home for his family. With remarkable vulnerability, he shares how moving between his mother in Kansas and father in Texas shaped his understanding of family dynamics, including a pivotal moment in third grade when missing over a month of school led to a custody change that would alter the trajectory of his life.Rather than glossing over difficult topics, Kyle dives deep into how his mother's struggles with depression impacted him, and his ongoing work toward forgiveness while she battles cancer today. "There's forgiveness there, even though there's been hurt," Kyle reflects, showing how breaking generational patterns often begins with healing our own wounds first. The conversation shifts to Kyle's parenting philosophy, built around three core values: leading with love, maintaining strong faith, and demonstrating unwavering integrity. His practical approach to emotional regulation stands out—instead of escalating tension when his children become upset, he's learned to get down on their level and ask curious questions. "What's causing you to have this reaction or emotion?" This simple shift has created not only a more peaceful home but also deeper connections with his children. We also explore Kyle's professional journey in staffing, his work at Tier 4, and his passion for supporting Women in Technology initiatives.  His values inform his leadership style, you will see firsthand during this episode. The episode concludes with a lightning round revealing everything from his favorite comedy movies (Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore) to who would play him in a movie (Ryan Reynolds).Whether you're navigating a complicated family history or simply wanting to lead your home with greater purpose, Kyle's story reminds us that our greatest parenting challenges often become our greatest gifts—if we're willing to do the inner work first. Suddenly the Division III Men's and Women's Basketball Championship Tournaments are down to sixteen teams, each. It's a known result each year, but it's still stunning and the results this past weekend were equally as stunning. Tune into Hoopsville presented by D3hoops.com as we talk to those who either dominated or survived through regional play. Most of those we talk with today were either pulled off at least one upset or once again proved they know how to win in March. And five years ago, the DIII tournaments, like everything else in the world, ceased. Teams were ready to play the next round of tournament games, but instead went home. It left so many "what-ifs" and predictions on who may have been crowned 2020 National Champions. D3hoops.com Around the Nation Columnist Ryan Scott took the time, shortly after the shutdown, to prognosticate how he would have seen the tournaments play out. Guests appearing on the Hudl Hoopsville Hotline: - Alyssa Polosky, SUNY Geneseo women's coach - Brad Fischer, No. 11 UW-Oshkosh women's coach - Ryan Scott, D3hoops.com Around the Nation columnist - Marcus Kahn, Mary Washington men's coach - Aaron Kelly, Catholic men's coach - Will Bartoszek, Austin Brewer and Matt Brackett, Hardin-Simmons senior forward, senior center, and men's coach

This slimmed-down version of the first round actually worked out pretty well. Five of the eight games went down to the final couple of minutes, and the three blowouts were against the No. 38, No. 39 and No. 40 seeds in the tournament. So now that that's out of the way, we can move on to the Round of 32. But first, we'll recap those eight games, you'll hear from some of the key playmakers on Saturday, including both winners of our game balls, just like it should be. Is John Carroll upset at having to play Mount Union? Not that we can tell. Is Mary Hardin-Baylor upset about playing Hardin-Simmons? Not exactly -- UMHB is just happy to be playing a D-III team, as Cru coach Larry Harmon said after the game.  How did the ESPN+ experiment work out after one game? Should there be more bowl games? We'll tackle those questions and get an insider's advice on how to punch up your broadcasts. And we'll talk about who this Round of 40 really benefited.  Plus, we chat with John Carroll coach Jeff Behrman for Fast Five (Nifty Nine), about the injury to quarterback Nick Semptimphelter and his quick recovery, Behrman's approach to practice, his quarterback and top receiver's quick rapport, and facing Mount Union again.

A couple of key teams had a couple of close calls, and they were games that we were keeping a close eye on on Saturday. In Podcast 367, we're talking about Cortland pulling out its narrow win over Brockport to clinch the Empire 8 conference automatic bid, as well as Mount Union's similarly narrow win against Marietta to clinch the automatic bid from the Ohio Athletic Conference. What did we learn from these games? Did Cortland or Mount Union get moved down on Patrick or Greg's ballots? Did Brockport or Marietta move up? And what can we take away from Hardin-Simmons picking up that second win against Mary Hardin-Baylor? And who has rizz? Those are the burning questions we start the show with. In addition, Cortland coach Curt Fitzpatrick will join us to talk more about the strength of that Brockport defense, how he got his team's offense jump-started, why they don't run a bunch of gadget plays, and where Saturday's new leading receiver came from, plus getting ready for the Cortaca Jug rivalry game with Ithaca. Logan Hansen will break down teams' chances of getting that top eight seed, plus who the projected 12 at-large teams are once the dust settles on Saturday after the Week 11 games. Also, who will benefit if there is an upset or two among those key games this week? Plus we highlight even more stories from around each region of Division III football, and you probably know who the favorites are in the playoffs, but we tell you who the dark horse teams might be that could win a couple games in the bracket. And Dem Spicy Boys are back, or at least one particularly spicy running back.

Hardin-Simmons came out of Saturday with another big, signature win, its second in as many weeks. The Cowboys keep exorcising those demons, this time coming up with their first win in Mary Hardin-Baylor's Crusader Stadium.  What's it like to have beaten Mary Hardin-Baylor pretty impressively but also know that that's a good team on the other sideline that you have to play again this season? Do you hold anything back in your playbook for a second meeting? HSU coach Jesse Burleson joins us to talk about that and a few other things on Fast Five.  Plus, of course, another week of wackiness in the WIAC, and we'll talk through all of that mess, as well as the big showdown between Grove City and Carnegie Mellon. GCC coach Andrew DiDonato talks about that key win for his Wolverines. We'll whip you through the big games in Division III from this past weekend. Plus, who's having fun in the 1? Who's looking for something new in the 2? Who's running free in the 3? Who's looking for to restore the roar in the 4? Who's looking alive in the 5? And, who's got something to fix in the 6? To see a list of all the teams talked about in this podcast, look at the list at the bottom of the post. Math Correspondent Logan Hansen talks about the three biggest playoff leverage games for Week 7, plus gives his usual snapshot for how those top eight seeds are looking. Has Mount Union crept into the Top 8 yet? Remember, this is based on projection of how the season will play out and of course, teams with harder schedules might have a harder time making the top eight because they might not actually win all their games. We also hand out game balls to the top performers, pick out the stats of the week, and run through region by region to get some of the other stories you might have missed. And since that never seems to be enough, Greg and Patrick have to pick one more region to tell one more story about on the fly. Well, welcome back to the Purple Power of the South! It had been a good 11 months or so since we last really had to consider the Cru, when they lost to Hardin-Simmons last Oct. 28, and this season was a mixed bag with UMHB's most telling game being a loss to a Top 10 NAIA team. Well, that's no longer the case as the Cru went to UW-Whitewater and came away with a lot of takeaways. Eight of them, in fact. Meanwhile, Salisbury's season just keeps getting better. As the opponents have been higher and higher ranked, the Sea Gulls have won by larger and larger margins. We talk about their win against Johns Hopkins with coach Sherm Wood on Fast Five.  Cortland avenged its last loss, Mount Union got by against John Carroll, and a number of teams played Division II opponents this year, but one team had the best performance, and who it is might surprise you. We'll whip you through the big games in Division III from this past weekend, catch up with the Bendokovic Bowl, visit the game that of course, had to end on a blocked field goal. Plus, who's getting it done in the 1? Who's pulling through in the 2? Who's prompting glee in the 3? Who's getting up off the floor in the 4? Who's looking alive in the 5? And, who's got something to fix in the 6? To see a list of all the teams talked about in this podcast, look at the list at the bottom of the post. Math Correspondent Logan Hansen talks about the three biggest playoff leverage games for Week 4, plus give a snapshot for how those top eight seeds are looking. It seems there can be little doubt that Division III football is at its best on a Saturday afternoon when the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is playing its conference games. They might draw 20,000-plus fans, they might go to double overtime, but whatever the weekend, it always seems at least one or two of the games is going to be entertaining, if not epic. But Division III is also at its best when it is forward-looking and innovative. When a university for the Deaf and hard of hearing can work with AT&T on a project to help level the playing field for a team that finds it hard to call plays. We ask Gallaudet coach Chuck Goldstein about how well the new 5G helmet worked for his team in their win against Hilbert, plus we talk about much more in the D3football.com Around the Nation podcast. Yes, UW-La Crosse came away with a great win at UW-Whitewater, shaking off a losing streak to the Warhawks that had reached 19 games. We talk about the Eagles' new wrinkles on offense and their quality defensive performance as well. Plus, Ithaca finally won a Liberty League game at RPI, and we hear from Ithaca quarterback A.J. Wingfield about that. And we look at the strange way that the Hardin-Simmons at McMurry game came to an end. It's not often the outcome of a single game can turn perceptions in Division III on their head, especially a game in September. But last Friday night, Endicott not only defeated No. 5 Hardin-Simmons, the Gulls defeated the Cowboys soundly. And Pat was there to witness, interview and report. Did Hardin-Simmons losing their starting quarterback and their All-Region linebacker make a difference? What did we see on the ground in Beverly, Massachusetts? Pat gives his analysis here, first, in the D3football.com Around the Nation podcast. This edition of the podcast is sponsored by d3photography.com, the licensed photography bureau contracted by D3sports.com. Check out what Pat called the most spine-tingling thing he has witnessed in 25 years at D3football.com. And hear some of the unique things that go on in postgame speeches and celebrations in the locker room after games, both at Endicott and Tufts, which defeated Bates on Saturday night. Plus we look at Augsburg's Hail Mary win, Grove City's blow struck in the PAC, and hand out game balls. When is the first woman to play a position other than kicker not the first woman to play a position other than kicker? Team Player - Stories of Coaching and Leadership

In part 2 of the oral history of the legendary 2013 Ridge Point vs Texas City Playoff game we have another key actor in that night. At that time he was the Offensive Coordinator of vaunted Stingaree attack led by future Longhorn and pro football player D'Onta Foreman. After that game a friendship was born that continued through some struggles that he and Coach Kovo shared as 1st time Head Coaches. He is now the Offensive Coordinator and O-Line Coach for the Boerne Greyhounds - welcome David Wilkinson to the show! - Growing up in Richardson, TX just up the road from downtown Dallas during the time when the Mavericks were always bad and a ticket was easy to come by, and a summertime trip out to the Ballpark at Arlington for a Rangers game was never too far away. - Playing HS ball at JJ Pearce with Aggie Legend Rich Coady and having future CFP Championship Game Head Coach Sonny Dykes as his Offensive Position Coach! - After considering extending his playing career at Austin College or Hardin-Simmons, David decided to head to Aggieland and enrolled at Texas A&M University and then beginning his coaching career back at his alma mater at JJ Pearce. - You won't meet many people more authentic and sincere than David Wilkinson. So, it's no surprise Coach provides a refreshingly REAL assessment of the things he learned during a tough stint as Head Football Coach at Baytown Lee; where the wins on the field to refill his emotional cup were few and far between, and how he learned that he was spending too much time "majoring in the minor". - Finally as a diehard Cowboys fan we give Wilk a tough Dem Boyz O-Line edition with legendary names like Larry Allen, Nate Newton, and Erik Williams! Join the Team Player Revolution! The biggest help is to leave a 5-star rating. Sure, that might not be the sexiest title for a podcast episode, but it's important. We got a good 45 minutes with the Division III football national committee chair, subjected him to our questions, and your questions. The ones submitted by readers are the ones in the graphic on this page, but we also asked what the point is of an alphabetical ranking, and does it seem right that 90.5% of the season passes before we get an actual ranking in the only poll that counts for playoff consideration? That's J.J. Nekoloff, the associate commissioner of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. He's been on the committee for three years, and worked to help organize 12 Stagg Bowls in Salem as part of the ODAC office. This edition of the podcast is sponsored by the hosts of Stagg Bowl XLIX, and we look forward to seeing all of you in Annapolis, Maryland, for the Division III football championship game on Dec. 16. If you've been paying close attention to Division III football and some of the selection committee processes in general for the past 10 years, one of these answers will come as a surprise to you. Plus, we go right off the top to ask how in the heck eight teams got ranked in Region 3, we talk about how much mock bracketing the committee does, we talk about the ways some regions rank primarily by winning percentage before all others, and much more. In addition, Pat and Greg look at some of the key pieces of this regional ranking, break down the playoffs chances of schools such as King's, Hardin-Simmons and Alma and Albion. Unexpected realizations that if Bethel had had its No. 1 quarterback healthy and won in Week 2 at UW-Platteville, perhaps we'd be in a position where someone might have given Bethel ... a No. 1 vote? Stranger things have happened. Or, well, things that are similarly strange have happened already. We had two big games to key on from Saturday, and one was a barnburner. The other ... well, it was just a team getting lit up. But we hear from players on the winning side of both games, including Bethel quarterback Jaran Roste, that aforementioned quarterback who severely dislocated his elbow in Week 1 and was on the field in Week 4. He talks us through the injury, his recovery, a key touchdown pass and more as we talk with him in our Fast 5 segment. Plus In The Huddle's Frank Rossi was in Abilene, Texas, for the Mary Hardin-Baylor win against Hardin-Simmons and he not only brings audio from Kyle King and Johnny Smith-Rider, he brings his first-hand eyewitness report. In addition, Pat and Greg hand out game balls, spotlight two interesting things from each region (as always), plus more. There's a list in small type at the bottom of this page of all the teams that are talked about. Fan question in our mailbag from Mike Shoultz @mikey_shoultz: Are we ranking the BEST TEAMS? Or the best RESUMES? We all know If Platteville, or Stout line it up against Albion, DePauw, Huntingdon they're beating them by 7-21 points. While their records aren't as good, they're better teams. And if matched up that would be proven. (There's more in a second tweet from him as well.) Pat Coleman and Greg Thomas talk about it all in the latest D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast. In a week where some of us didn't really expect any upsets, instead we got a couple of big ones, where Loras got two shots at a last-second field goal to beat Central, and Case throttled Washington & Jefferson's offense. Plus, two of this week's No. 1 votes went to unlikely places. Why did Hardin-Simmons get a No. 1 vote, and why does it not really actually matter? We talk with Albion coach Dustin Beurer after his team won handily at Rose-Hulman on Saturday to improve to 3-0. He tells us he had one big takeaway from last year's playoff loss to UW-La Crosse, and what his players had to do to get better, and it may not be what you would expect. He talks about that, the backup who is now leading them for the near future, and how he keeps the tradition of the Britons' 1994 national title alive for his players, in our Fast Five segment. Albion broke through into the Top 25 this week, but can the Britons break through and win a playoff game this year? Plus, are pass breakups the new assists? What actually happened at quarterback for Hobart in Week 2? Pat and Greg talk about key stories from each region. Look at the bottom of this page to see all the teams listed. That's who we talk about in this podcast, and probably more. Fan question in our mailbag from Brock Reisler @brockreisler: Is the ARC Wartburg's league to lose now? Does yesterday's Loras/Central say more about the Duhawks or Dutch? #d3fb Is this a breakthrough game for Loras? Or does this talk more about Central? Teams are in camp, with the first games coming in just 10 days, on Sept. 1! And while it is definitely too early to talk about this year's playoff bubble, we decided to visit with two of last year's bubble teams.  For Hardin-Simmons and coach Jesse Burleson, last year's Selection Sunday brought disappointment, as the Cowboys were left out of the playoffs. There's no doubt that the team has been using that snub as fuel for their 2022 fire, and Burleson talks about that, plus the amazing number of players the team has in camp, and how far ahead his team is at this point in the preseason. Plus, you won't believe how many schools Burleson said he called in order to get one D-III team to agree to play them. On the opposite side, we have Bethel and coach Steve Johnson. His Royals got new life on Selection Sunday last year, as the team, which had two losses, both to St. John's, got an at-large bid. The Royals have just over half the players in camp that Hardin-Simmons have, but Bethel has 28 of its top 30 players from last year returning. Johnson talks about the way the Bethel program has been built over his 34 seasons, and what the team's phrase, "play fast and free" means. Pat and Greg field a listener question regarding what effect the coronavirus might have on this year's season, discuss what (if anything) can be learned from a conference preseason coaches' poll, and much more. Now we know who is in and who is out, and unless you are a Hardin-Simmons fan, there might not be a lot to complain about with this bracket. Yes, we thought the Cowboys would be in, and surely many people in Texas did so as well, but as it turned out. But the Region 3 committee thought otherwise -- enough so that they even put Randolph-Macon in front of Hardin-Simmons, so Hardin-Simmons never even got to the table for discussion. In other regions, committees made some interesting decisions that ended up boosting the at-large candidacy of teams in their region. Is that fair or is that gaming the system? Plus, what did the committee get right and what did it get wrong? Who gets our game balls from a great weekend in Division III football? It has been awhile since we had a show - we apologize. The basketball season technically started as scheduled on November 6, but not a lot of teams took the court thanks to the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic. So how are those who are playing getting on the floor? This marks the first of three podcasts tackling the challenge of COVID-19 for college across the county in Division III. In the trio of shows, we will talk to those who are playing, who have had seasons canceled, and who are making decisions behind the scenes at institutions. In this first podcast, Dave McHugh chat with two coaches who are currently playing games, Greenville men's coach Dr. George Barber and Hardin-Simmons' women's coach Kendra Hassell. Hear how each program, along with athletic department and institution, is getting their teams on the court in competition. What steps each are taking to play, stay safe from the coronavirus, and even find games to play. We also get a reminder of The System utilized by Barber at Greenville and the experience of playing four Division I programs in just a week. Hoopsville broadcasts from the WBCA/NABC Studio. All guests are featured on the BlueFrame Technology Hoopsville Hotline. We hope to start live, video, shows sometime in January.

Welcome to Episode 56 of The Podcast About Division III Baseball. The 2020 season has hilariously already begun, despite most D-III schools being in places where it is way too cold to play baseball right now. Thanks, Texas! This is our first of eight regional preview pods, and we are indeed beginning out West. After the usual caveats (0:00-5:45), we cover the four conferences in the West region. Topics include: ASC Concordia (Texas) (at 5:45) is loaded with an incredible 1-2 punch in the rotation and some experienced talent in the lineup East Texas Baptist (at 10:30) is never boring but will have to replace some big bats Other contenders (at 12:45) -- Hardin-Simmons, Howard Payne...the Mary Hardin-Baylor Fightin' Stawskis???  SCAC Trinity (Texas) (at 14:15) is primed to be excellent again, hopefully lead by #SeniorYearRafe Texas Lutheran (at 17:15) can always be trusted to contend, but will need some arms to step up Southwestern (at 19:40) has some really exciting talent...are these Pirates gonna be better than the Pittsburgh Pirates? Centenary (at 23:40) is usually pretty good too -- go Gents! SCIAC Chapman (at 25:25) graduated over 300 innings, but they just won the National Championship and may have the best pitcher in the country so they'll probably still be pretty damn good! La Verne (at 32:15) -- why the Leopards might be ready to be the next breakout SCIAC team Occidental (at 34:50) has an elite arm in Nolan McCarthy and a formidable lineup Other contenders (at 37:30) -- Cal Lutheran, Pomona-Pitzer, and Redlands maybe?  NWC (at 38:50) This conference is probably underrated but also a mess so we talked about basically all the teams while also explaining why we think Whitman is the favorite We concluded with a few other notable player shout outs (at 43:30), our teams to beat (at 44:20), and our player and pitcher of the year picks for the region (at 45:50). Then we say goodbye. Thanks for listening! The announcements of the departure of Vince Kehres and Larry Kehres from the Mount Union football program and athletic department are easily the most impactful news stories of the young 2020 season. And depending on how the season ends, those twin departures may well be the most impactful news story of the entire year. Who might replace Vince Kehres as head coach? Pat and Keith are joined by Adam Turer, and they look at some of the possible names -- Mount Union alumni who could well be the next Purple Raider head coach. Plus, we'll also talk about what sort of Purple Raider program that person will inherit. In addition, we start our offseason podcasts as we always do, with long-form interviews of Division III coaches. This month, we caught up with Aaron Keen, the new head coach of Washington University in St. Louis -- literally on his first day on the job in mid-January. What is on the to-do list for the man replacing another LK -- Larry Kindbom? Plus, what did he forget to do on Day 1? And why would a man who could be an offensive coordinator in a power conference, or perhaps a Group of Five head coach, want to come back to Division III? We hear his take. We also chat with McMurry head coach Jordan Neal. He enters his second year with the program, one which can seemingly only go up after an 0-10 finish in 2019. We talk with Neal about his career on the opposite side of town, as a quarterback at Hardin-Simmons, plus his time as an assistant coach and how he found all of the people who are now on his staff. And then, how do the War Hawks get the program turned around? And we take your questions: If we could wave a magic wand, where would we put the Stagg Bowl? Who will be the next coach at Wheaton? And who won the decade? The post ATN Podcast 271: The post-Kehres world appeared first on D3football.com » D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast.

The first set of regional rankings came out on Wednesday, and our team went through all four regions and looked to see what made sense and what was out of place. You see, the first regional rankings don't take into account results against regionally ranked opponents, because that relies on a previous regional ranking and ... there isn't a previous ranking yet, just the current one. Does that mean the next ranking will look a lot different? Pat Coleman and Greg Thomas, our chief bracketology expert, go through each region and tackle the big questions and where things might change. He's our guest host for this special edition of the D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast. In addition, the placement of Hardin-Simmons and Centre brought out a lot of questions, as did the placement of Cortland and Salisbury. We explore those and others in this podcast. The D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast is a regular conversation between Pat Coleman and Keith McMillan and guests covering the wide range of Division III football. There are six huge games between ranked teams (or ranked teams and unbeaten teams) this week, and this is a week Pat will be on the road, as he is heading out to Los Angeles to see a pair of games involving evenly matched teams at each end of the SCIAC. Big games abound: No. 7 Hardin-Simmons at No. 2 Mary Hardin-Baylor; No. 5 Frostburg State at No. 6 Wesley; No. 10 UW-Oshkosh at No. 8 UW-Whitewater; No. 9 St. John’s at Bethel; No. 20 RPI at No. 23 Ithaca; and No. 19 Case Western Reserve at No. 12 Washington & Jefferson. We'll preview each of those. Plus, our guest this Friday is Marietta coach Andy Waddle. His team is one of the surprising 4-0 teams through five weeks, and he talks about what goes into the decision to go for a two-point conversion at the end of the game, even when it bucks the conventional wisdom. He talks about where his current running back, Tanner Clark, stacks up with some of his program greats, and we put him on the spot about the purple power that Marietta faces at the end of each season.  Pat and Keith also give us a quick overview of a half-dozen more games, and then they put each other on the spot. And this week, nobody has to rhyme their answers. The post Around the Nation Podcast 209: A big six for Week 6 appeared first on D3football.com » D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast.

We love a gutsy call. Sure, our job isn't being put on the line when a coach makes the decision to go for two at the end of a key game, but this is Division III -- the coach's job isn't really on the line on one play call. We love a little gamble, especially when it pays off. Whether you call a Philly Special (or something that looks similar but fools the broadcaster) or something else, rolling the dice and getting it makes for a great highlight. So, for Marietta and Simpson, which chose to go for two, or Wittenberg, which had no choice, it was a big Week 5, and Pat and Keith honor that by going for two with the D3football.com Around the Nation Podcast.  Plus, the Little Brass Bell went back home with the team it came with, nobody was trapping Mary Hardin-Baylor or Hardin-Simmons, UW-Whitewater wore UW-La Crosse out and just maybe The Streak is in play this year. Teams mentioned: Denison, Wittenberg, Simpson, Wartburg, Marietta, Ohio Northern, Wheaton, North Central, Hardin-Simmons, Mary Hardin-Baylor, UW-La Crosse, UW-Whitewater, Linfield, Whitworth, Muhlenberg, Franklin & Marshall, St. Thomas, Concordia-Moorhead, Case Western Reserve, Illinois Wesleyan, Susquehanna, Dickinson, Greenville, Westminster (Mo.), Dubuque, Loras, Wisconsin Lutheran, Rockford, Methodist, Huntingdon, Wesley, Southern Virginia, Martin Luther, St. Scholastica, Brockport, St. John Fisher, Worcester State, Fitchburg State, Louisiana College, Sul Ross State, Millsaps, Husson, SUNY-Maritime, FDU-Florham, Misericordia, Dean, Finlandia, Olivet, Moravian, Gettysburg.
