After enduring four years of dialysis and declining health, my guest, photographer Tracey Halladay had come to terms with the possibility of not experiencing all that life had to offer. However, a life-saving kidney transplant granted her a second chance. During her recovery, Tracey noticed a shift in her perception of the world. She felt compelled to share her newfound understanding and appreciation as she explored the mountains, forests, and meadows of Canada. Through her photography, Tracey aims to encourage mindfulness, curiosity, and compassion towards ourselves, others, the Earth, and all its creatures. From the mailbag today, Ewan McNeill shares why Glass is his creative social platform of choice over Instagram, Kelvin Brown invites Flickr users to join a new group celebrating the Photowalk's assignments, Tracey Ainsley has checked into a lighthouse keeper's cottage, Chris Smith asks you to think about what your THIS IS ME image might be, Xavier Shaver has a poem from the path, and Mark Christensen is taking the Famous not so Famous flask on tour in California. Until recently, tarot, astrology, and spiritualism—practices often shorthanded simply as woo-woo—were the stuff of dusty psychic parlors and seventies nostalgia. But today, mysticism has permeated mainstream culture. In the third and final installment of the Critics at Large interview series, Vinson Cunningham talks with Jennifer Wilson, a contributing writer at The New Yorker, about this new age of magical thinking. They discuss how “woo” has seeped into our everyday lives through apps such as Co-Star, and how recent TV shows and novels have embraced supernatural themes. With the rise of cryptocurrency and sports betting, speculation about the future has become a fundamental part of our economy, too. “Maybe people would feel less uncertainty that pushes them to consult with astrology and tarot-card readers if there were more security in the present,” Wilson says. “In so many ways, this is a problem we've created.” And a bonus: Vinson gets a tarot reading of his own.Read, watch, and listen with the critics:“The Curse” (2023)@astropoets“True Detective” (2014-)“This Is Me . . . Women we judge based on some random unsubstantiated headline, but there are few women that applies to quite so much as Katie Price.Katie has been in the public eye for thirty years. She started as the glamour model Jordan at just 17 years old and is now a bestselling author and businesswoman. She has published six autobiographies, 11 novels and two series of children's books, released her own lingerie, haircare, perfume and equestrian lines, starred in a host of reality programmes and won Celebrity Big Brother in 2015. She's been through divorces, bankruptcies, carjacking, raised five children and campaigned for her disabled son, Harvey. She has survived childhood abuse, addiction, depression and much more. But Katie Price is sick to the back teeth of other people's opinions of her. Which is why she's written her 7th autobiography. This Is Me. Because she's decided, at 46, that it's about bloody time she wrote her own narrative, instead of letting other people.Katie joined me from her new house (where the wifi hasn't been sorted out yet!) to talk about how her breakdown changed everything and the agony of revisiting the worst times in her life for the book. We also discussed ADHD, IVF, body dysmorphia, Botox and why, at 46, she's finally got the knowledge and experience to take back control.Listen to The Katie Price Show.* You can buy all the books mentioned in this podcast at The Shift bookshop on Bookshop.org, including This Is Me by Katie Price and the book that inspired this podcast, The Shift: how I lost and found myself after 40 - and you can too, by me.* If you enjoyed this episode and you fancy buying me a coffee, pop over to my page on buymeacoffee.com• And if you'd like to support the work that goes into making this podcast and get a weekly newsletter plus loads more content including exclusive transcripts of the podcast, why not join The Shift community, come and have a look around at www.theshiftwithsambaker.substack.com• The Shift (on life after 40) with Sam Baker is created and hosted by Sam Baker and edited by Juliette Nicholls @ Pineapple Audio Production. Ever found yourself pigeonholed by a personality quiz that just didn't get you? I'm Tosha Williams, and my own brush with this frustration led me to the comforting verses of Psalm 139. It was (and is!) so very good to know that God knows me! He knows YOU, too! This in mind, our new "This Is Me" conversation series kicks off with a look into the truths about our identity from Psalm 139. Truth is, we are intimately known and never alone, wonderfully made, and forever in the thoughts of our Creator. I'll share a mnemonic poem that captures these four truths, setting the stage for the rich discussions to come.As we wrap up our introductory journey in this episode, I'll lift our hearts in a prayer drawn from the end of Psalm 139, verses 17-18. It's a moment of blessing, a call for God to lead us towards His everlasting ways and an affirmation of our true identity in Him. We'll also take a quick glance at the Family Disciple Me app and its accompanying Conversation Guide—tools to help weave devotion and discipleship into the fabric of family life. With these resources, we aim to encourage spiritual growth and inspire all of us to walk confidently in the light of who we are, declaring "this is me" with the boldness that comes from being fully known by God. Join us as we continue to "Seek Him Speak Him" in every aspect of our existence.______________________The Family Disciple Me Podcast is a ministry of Family Disciple Me, which exists to catalyze Devotion Driven Discipleship in our homes and around the world. We believe that discipleship starts with a conversation, and FDM provides free, easily-accessible, biblical resources to encourage these meaningful conversations along life's way. Then we review "The Greatest Love Story Never Told," the behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Jennifer Lopez's musical extravaganza "This Is Me ... Now: A Love Story."
