When you were a kid and your parents were teaching you how to fly a kite, did they say, “Hold on tight and don't let go!”?!? Why did they say that? Because if we let go of the string, the kite will either come crashing to the ground, get caught in a tree, or even worse, fly away and we risk losing the kite! The author is going to lay the hammer down on his readers in chapter 10. It starts off repeating some things he has already said and we have covered but in vs 19 through the rest of the chapter you better put on your seat belt because the road gets pretty rough! He reminds his readers how they can enter God's presence, right at the throne because of the blood of Jesus but then he encourages them to keep a tight grip on that hope and to not let go because if they walk away from Jesus, they walk away from his promises; they walk away from his sacrifice, the ONLY sacrifice that will get them, and us, into heaven! Jesus is way more precious than a kite and if we want to be with him in heaven for eternity, we have to hold on to him with everything we have because the world, the devil, they are going to throw everything they can at us to make us let go…Hold on as tight as you can!

LM881 Fly a Kite

My wife and I started attending kite flying festivals in Florida back in the 90s. Some of the competitions involved kite maneuvers choreographed to music. I was so inspired I bought a professional kite, but my aerial ballet was more like clogging with the clouds. I remember the first kite I flew as a boy. Dad and I assembled it, drove to the schoolyard and made sure we were clear of power lines, but there was a problem. On that particular day, the wind gusts were strong, causing the kite to lift, turn abruptly and crash. Dad said, “You need a kite tail.” He tied cloth strips together, as I wondered how it would work. If my kite wouldn't fly, how would adding more weight solve the problem? Then dad held the kite, while I held the string AND my breath. Suddenly a gust of wind came, and dad let go of the kite. With its new tail, it soared, and I experienced the definition of the word stabilization that day.  As adults we all need to apply that word to our hectic lives. Sometimes we seem to be flying along in our daily lives without a care in the world, but sudden problems arise like a violent gust of wind, and the moment seems to spin out of control. And although we can't control all of our outside influences, we can control our internal stabilization. That occurs when we daily trust God's Word. He brings peace and balance to everything. Trust the Father to stabilize your life, then you can soar. After all, you were made to fly!

Which, would make much more sense as it'd be warm in South America in February.Kites, were first used in ancient China by their military over 3,000 years ago, dating back to around 470 BC. There's a lot of local lore about the origins of the kite, pointing to the way the wind affects the leaves fluttering on trees, and harnessing power in the sail of their boats. JThe earliest of kites were made from bamboo or reeds for the frame, with leaves, silk, and paper made the perfect sails. The lines were made from vines or braided fibers, and it became not just a military tool to guide ships or send messages, but for ceremonies providing offerings to the gods.Did you know that the longest kite measured 3,394 feet? When I was in the 5th grade, I was told to go fly a kite .... with a 1st grader. Then I was told to go read .... to kindergartners. Aside from scaring the crap out of me at age 10, these exercises taught me an important lesson: doing things for others makes you happy.
