The lunar nodes shifting into a new pair of signs is always a big deal. It happens every year and a half or so, and it impacts everybody, both personally and in the world's headlines. A few weeks back, on January 28, the Moon's (Mean) north node crossed the line and entered Pisces, where it will remain until it transitions into Aquarius on August 18, 2026. (The south node entered the opposite sign, Virgo, at the same time.)  In this short essay, my intention is to put the personal meaning of the nodes shifting signs in the spotlight. Since we'll all be experiencing some of this energy collectively, it will impact the positives and negatives of the wider world too. As always, we start by underscoring a point that is really the bedrock of evolutionary astrological theory: the south node of the Moon represents the gravity of old habits which are holding us back, while the north node symbolizes the remedy that can liberate us. In my own work, I view the soul cages represented by the south node as problems and challenges that originated in prior lifetimes, although other philosophies can be made to fit too. In any case, as the late, lamented astrologer and my dear friend, Michael Lutin, once put it, “the north node is the meeting and the south node is the bottle.” If you know anything about Alcoholics Anonymous, Michael really covered the essence of the point in those thirteen words.  Listen in....

Lunar Nodes in Aries and Libra (2023-2025): A Mindful Journey The Lunar Nodes, powerful points between the Sun and Moon, serve as guides through our cosmic journey, deeply intertwined with the cycles of eclipses. These nodes—one North and one South—create a potent axis, especially during eclipse seasons, revealing whispers of our past lives, our current purpose, and the soul lessons we are here to master. As we transition from the Taurus-Scorpio cycle, which focused on stability and transformation, we now embark on a new chapter with the North Node in Aries and the South Node in Libra, beginning July 17, 2023, and lasting until January 11, 2025. This shift invites us to explore fresh themes of independence, creativity, and balance in our lives and society.

This New Moon in Virgo closes the "eclipse window" that began major changes in the Virgo-Pisces axis this year—changes that have been developing for many years. Ketu brings these issues to the surface once more. If you have planets in Virgo or Pisces, you may have already noticed changes, as Ketu activated the eclipse degree in July. In October, Mercury and Mars continue this activation. When Mars influences an eclipse, it often brings something into our awareness forcefully. With the Sun, representing leadership, eclipsed by Ketu, the signifier of loss, we may see a leader facing challenges or stepping down. New York's mayor is one example of how Ketu can highlight past mistakes, and we may see more instances like this. New Moons, especially during eclipses, are not ideal for starting new projects. They are better for introspection and resetting before making practical decisions. The alignment of the Sun, Moon, Earth, and Lunar Nodes uncovers hidden aspects of life, especially in the areas of your chart related to Virgo. The eclipse occurs in the Hasta lunar mansion, which symbolizes skill, practicality, and manifestation, as well as manipulation in both positive and negative ways. A Ketu eclipse tends to reveal the negative side. Hasta provides resources to achieve goals, but the eclipse suggests that some important details may be missing. Insights are possible, but take your time to process the information before acting.

It's a very busy week for Mercury, which aspects Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and the Lunar Nodes, and then moves into diplomatic Libra. The New Moon in Virgo on October 2 closes the "eclipse window" that introduced significant changes in our lives. If you have planets in sidereal Virgo or Pisces, you may experience bigger changes than most. Ketu has been triggering this eclipse since July, so changes may have already occurred. Venus, Mercury, and Mars trigger the eclipses into October also. Eclipses are not always the most auspicious times and are unsuitable for starting new ventures. Instead, it's a time for introspection and resetting internally before making practical decisions based on new insights. The alignment of the Sun, Moon, Earth, and Lunar Nodes helps us connect the dots. The luminaries and their shadows have personal significance. Whichever area Virgo represents for you—based on its house position from your ascendant, Moon, or Sun—will experience more change now. The Sabian symbol for the North Node is 18 Aries, An empty hammock. What we like doing is not always what's going to make us happiest in the long run. [4:32] Venus trines Uranus on Feb. 7 (1:25 pm PST) at 19°08' Capricorn-Taurus, signaling unexpected but pleasurable developments in relationships and/or finances. Track your New Moon intentions through these dates to see the developments unfold. [14:37] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon Periods. On Feb. 5, the Moon in Sagittarius squares Neptune (9:06 pm PST). It's VOC for about seven hours before it enters Capricorn (Feb. 6, 4:08 am). Urgency to get things done conflicts with the desire to meander a bit longer toward a dream. It's time to get serious about relationships and the way we handle our money, to make beauty part of our business, and to create things that will last. [3:04] Moon Report! The Leo Full Moon (Jan. 25, 9:54 am PST, 05º14' Leo-Aquarius) is on Sabian symbol 6 Leo, An old-fashioned woman and an up to date girl. Celebrate what's unique about you and the beautiful artistic qualities you offer the world – but rein in the drama. [6:22] This is the Full Moon in a Lunar Phase Family Cycle that began on July 28, 2022, with a New Moon at 05º38' Leo. The First Quarter in this cycle was on April 27, 2023, the Last Quarter on Oct. 24, 2024. [7:18] Void-of-Course (VOC) Moon periods. On Jan. 22, the Moon in Gemini opposes Venus in Sagittarius (12:40 pm PST) and is VOC for just over sixty minutes, then enters Cancer (1:51 pm PST). Going after something you desire often means leaving your comfort zone. [9:04] On Jan. 24, the Moon in Cancer trines Neptune (2:58 pm PST), then is VOC for about 8 ½ hours, until the Moon enters Leo (11:36 pm PST).  [10:35] On Jan. 26, the Moon in Leo squares Uranus (1:19 pm PST) and begins a 21-hour VOC (!!!) period, before entering Virgo (Jan. 27, 11:11 am PST). This examines how being ourselves conflicts with belonging to a group. [12:05] The Sun in Aquarius squares Jupiter on Jan. 26 (11:19 pm PST) at 06º49' Aquarius-Taurus. Watch out for conflict between progress and need for financial certainty. [13:52] On Jan. 26 (11:35 pm PST), Uranus stations direct at 19°05' on the Sabian symbol 20 Taurus, Wind, clouds, and haste. Don't move too quickly or make impulsive decisions that can't be taken back. [15:52] Mercury conjoins Mars on Jan. 27 (6:59 am PST, 17º17' Capricorn). This is the third in a series of Mercury-Mars conjunctions. The first was on Oct. 29 and the second on Dec. 27, 2023. This combination supports mental acuity and courage to say what we need to say. [17:09] On Jan. 28 (1:06 pm PST), Mercury trines Uranus at 19°05' Capricorn-Taurus. This is an excellent aspect for opening our minds to the sudden inspiration that seems to come from nowhere. [18:27] Venus sextiles Saturn on Jan. 27 (10:03 pm PST) at 6°00' Capricorn-Pisces. Build something that you love. [19:07] On Jan. 28 (5:02 pm PST), Venus trines Jupiter at 06°59' Capricorn-Taurus. What you love is your treasure.[20:35] Mars squares the Lunar Nodes at 18º02' Capricorn-Aries on Jan. 28 (6:19 am PST). The Sabian symbol for Mars, 19 Capricorn, is A child of about five with a huge shopping bag; the North Node is 19 Aries, The Magic Carpet.
