Send us a Text Message. How did a casual joke in a group chat evolve into the lowercase dooms block party, an event with a profound mission? Join us as we sit down with Luke Cavanaugh, Travis Thompson, and Kevin "BK" Shears from Snake Farm to uncover the origins of this community-driven initiative. This episode sheds light on how the block party aims to foster camaraderie and support critical missions like the FOLAND initiative, all while collaborating with organizations such as the Combat Control Foundation. Discover the importance of creating genuine, impactful gatherings that go beyond fleeting get-togethers to truly resonate with and support the veteran community. Transitioning to civilian life can be a challenging journey for veterans and athletes alike. We discuss the invaluable support offered by organizations like the Honor Foundation and Shift Group. Kevin provides insights into the rigorous training and job placement assistance that Shift Group offers, emphasizing the importance of utilizing available resources to make transitions smoother. The unique camaraderie and humor found in military meme culture also play a crucial role in providing support during these pivotal moments. Hear compelling anecdotes that illustrate how shared experiences and humor can help ease the stress of life changes. Lastly, we are inspired by the story of a community project honoring the memory of SSgt Forrest Sibley, a fallen Air Force Combat Controller (CCT). Led by Brent Sibley, Forrest's father, this initiative has transformed a piece of land into a sanctuary for Veterans, Active duty service members, and their families to bond and heal. With the community's support, this outdoor retreat has become a site for resiliency retreats and team-building activities. We also explore Travis and Luke's strategies for balancing demanding civilian careers with family life, emphasizing the integration of family time into work routines. Learn how these veterans leverage their military skills in civilian roles while maintaining focus on what truly matters. We greatly appreciate your support, so please remember to LIKE, FOLLOW, SHARE, and SUBSCRIBE! Recently I visited Straight Shot’s sister company, Kinetix Physiotherapy and Performance, as we have been working together to reach more people who want to move well and feel great. The physical therapy side of Kinetix is headed up by Dr. Garrett Foland. Dr. Foland started out as a personal trainer, but realized that he wanted to further his education to provide care through movement to people injured or experiencing pain. This movement based approach to physical therapy is right up my alley so I wanted to have Dr. Foland on to talk about how he got into physical therapy, how they do things differently at Kinetix, and what you all should look for when trying to find a physical therapist who can help you feel and perform your absolute best.
In episode forty eight of the Glow Journal podcast, host Gemma Watts talks to the founder and CEO of lilah b., Cheryl Yannotti Foland. Having grown up on the East Coast of the United States, once self described “high strung, type A, fast talking New Yorker” Cheryl Yannotti Foland spent the first 20 years of her working life in private equity. Cheryl describes her attitude towards work, life and beauty during that time as “more, more, more,” but a move to California for work in 2006 saw the maximalist trade in her New York lifestyle for something a little slower.Cheryl tells me that the life she’d been living was not the healthiest and recognised that her “need” for the next best beauty product was really more of a “want,” in turn identifying what she describes as a “white space” in the market for a brand that truly simplified beauty. And so, lilah b. was born- a clean, luxe colour cosmetics brand in which each product has been formulated to have multiple uses, meaning that consumers can create a complete, polished look with minimal products- as Cheryl tells me, “three is all you need.” More or less on launch, lilah b. was picked up by both Barney’s and Net-A-Porter, meaning that the brand was being sold and marketed in upwards of 170 countries within five months. Today, lilah b. remains one of the world’s most coveted clean beauty brands, with Cheryl watching women (and men!) across the globe adopting her less is more ethos, having succeeded in her mission to make beauty simple again. This episode was recorded remotely, myself in Melbourne and Cheryl in California, so if you would prefer to read the interview I have made the complete transcript available on glowjournal.com. In this conversation, Cheryl shares the surprising influence Tiffany & Co. designer Elsa Peretti had on her brand, how increasing consumer demand for authenticity is rapidly changing the beauty industry and why all have a Rhodesian Ridgeback to thank for the lilah b. brand. Less is more. This is a value shared by both Lilah B. founder Cheryl Yannotti Foland and her company, a luxury, minimalistic collection of color that allows women to achieve a finished look with fewer products -- encouraging a movement to declutter, minimize and simplify. Cheryl joins Socialfly Co-Founders Stephanie Cartin and Courtney Spritzer for a conversation about her career, and describes her journey to success, including how, when building a company, everything takes longer, and more money than you think; the value of giving your team flexibility and not micromanaging; the challenge of bringing a business to life; finding balance, and feeling lucky; and, how Cheryl reinvented herself in a big way. Plus, a surprise!
When Cheryl Foland was working too hard and running too fast, living up to the Manhattan overachiever standard, she happened to mention to her colleagues in beauty marketing that she thought the company should focus on developing business on the West Coast. “Good idea,” they said, “You go.” So she did, reluctantly becoming bi-coastal for a while, having a crash-and-burn moment, then bouncing back to embrace the laid back California lifestyle fulltime. It not only saved her, it planted the seed for lilah b., her beauty line that's all about paring down, using less and creating simpler beauty routines around multitasking products. Hers is an inspiring story of resilience and reinvention, California style. Plan to listen. #wherebrainsmeetbeauty@wherebrainsmeetbeautypodcastwherebrainsmeetbeauty.com

Pamela Foland is an independent children's book author with a platform of pet care and how pets can teach children valuable skills such as responsiblity, confidence, love, patiences, empathy, etc., who grew up in Plano, Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Business in 2005. Her love of animals started at a very young age. As a child, she was constantly bringing home stray dogs, and injured birds. As an adult, her love of animals has only grown stronger. Pamela has worked in numerous pet hotels as a dog trainer and is certified to teach pet first aid and CPR. All her experience with pets culminated four years ago when Pamela found and raised an abandoned litter of day-old kittens. Not able to part with any of these now-grown babies, Pamela enjoys going home to her "little munchkins" every night. This experience gave Pamela the inspiration for her series debut, Megan's Munchkins. Pamela will always have a special affinity with Megan because of their shared experiences. She truly believes there are few experiences in life more compelling than saving the life of another being. One of the least-discussed issues with the cryptocurrency space currently is that there are very few, if any, guidelines for how to report crypto gains and losses on your yearly income taxes, and because of the sheer number of exchanges that exist, there is no seamless interface to see how your transactions are doing. TaxToken has set out to solve both of these problems by creating a suite of accounting software built on the blockchain. The capital gains and losses tracker integrates with 8 exchanges to automatically record your cryptocurrency gains and losses throughout the year, and fills out the appropriate tax forms for you. Because records are written to the blockchain, they can be verified by third parties, which ultimately reduces costs for everyone. Though their first application is cryptocurrency-specific, the rest of their accounting software can be used by anyone. They will be offering a beta version at the Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Blockchain Superconference in Dallas, Texas February 16-18, and individuals who subscribe to their newsletter will receive a discount code. Their cryptocurrency accounting software will be launched on March 1st, just in time for this year's tax season. For more information, visit www.taxtoken.io. You can also interact with them directly on Twitter at @taxtoken.
In Wade's mid-30s, he knew he wanted a change — he wanted to begin training in a Martial Art. He did his research, he tried a few different styles, but hadn't quite found the fit he was looking for. When he discovered Krav Maga, he was intrigued. And as the saying goes, ‘When the student is ready, the teacher will arrive.' So he went to his first Krav Maga class where he met his instructor — and guest today — Barny Foland. Barny Foland has run the Krav Maga studio in San Francisco for the last 18 years. He has a colorful background and is extremely passionate about self-defense. Barny began training in the Martial Arts as a way to work out when he was 40, starting with Chinese Boxing and then branching out into Krav Maga. After getting into Krav Maga, he opened up his studio with his instructor at the time. Join Wade and Barny in this episode as they discuss Barny's background in Martial Arts, the unique attributes of Chinese Boxing — the Martial Art Barny has practiced, his love for Krav Maga, the process of how he started his Krav Maga school and how he maintains it to this day. "I've set this vision for myself to empower people the best way that I can, in the least amount of time, with the most simplistic process I can create. Because at the end of the day, the more complex a solution is, the less likely people will use it, implement it, or that it'll have lasting effect." - Ryan Foland Learn more about this episode of A Celebration of You at http://hollydowling.com/ep63.
