Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI's Pat Forde try to pick up the pieces from last week's realignment fallout after news that Washington, Oregon would be heading to the Big Ten, while Arizona, Arizona State & Utah would take their athletic programs to the Big 12.The 500th episode of the podcast opens with a discussion on the unserious nature of these Pac-12 realignment meetings, as a chairperson from Oregon joined a call on Zoom during his golf match. This leads the hosts to believe that the meetings were all planned on very short notice & that the conference members were all flying by the seat of their pants during these major decisions. The guys then dive into what happens next for the remaining four teams left in the Pac-12: Oregon State, Washington State, Cal & Stanford. Many Pac-12 fans can't believe the other members left Stanford and Cal out to dry, while some believe that more schools should adopt playing in different conferences for different sports to make the transition easier. Dan pours water on the idea that the conference a team plays in impacts their academic standing, while Ross notes Mizzou head football coach Eli Drinkwitz's comments about the well-being of student athletes being overlooked during the realignment process.Pac-12 softball players have been voicing their opinions and concerns on social media surrounding the realignment. The players state that they didn't sign up to play games at Rutgers away from their families. The podcast crew notes that Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff may not be able to attend conference championships this year for the Pac-12 due to being so disliked at this moment.Rounding out the show, in recruiting news, Florida State lands a big time safety & Boise State is able to keep a wideout in Idaho over Michigan. Last weekend, the Michigan Wolverines missed out on a top target of theirs at the wide receiver position in the 2024 class — four-star Jordan Shipp. A teammate of Jadyn Davis', Shipp would have paired up nicely with him and the two wideout commits — Channing Goodwin and I'Marion Stewart — the Wolverines have in this recruiting cycle. But with five-star Ryan Wingo announcing his commitment in late December, and elite target Gatlin Bair still have yet to make his decision, the cupboard isn't completely bare for Michigan in this cycle. Von Lozon and Tyler Sealey discuss that and more recruiting news in today's Future Blue. M&BR's Josh Henschke and Trevor McCue talk Michigan Football recruiting. What happened in June, what to look forward to in July, and where does Michigan stand with big targets like Gatlin Bair.
M&BR's Josh Henschke and Trevor McCue talk Michigan Football recruiting after a busy June. Where does Michigan sit with top targets Gatlin Bair and Aaron Scott? Is Michigan the leader for multiple top 2025 QBs? Who is on the board at EDGE?
Episode 14 in the series features my recent sit-down with Michigan tight end Colston Loveland reflecting upon his journey to Michigan and his breakout freshman campaign. Loveland reflected upon his rise from recruiting obscurity in Idaho to one of the most coveted tight end prospects in the country. He explained why he chose Michigan despite strong overtures from Alabama and a late push from Auburn (who'd hired Boise State headman Bryan Harsin). He then shed light on his tough transition from Idaho to Michigan as an early enrollee. The conversation then turns to freshman year and his rise up the depth chart. Loveland then highlights his standout performances versus Ohio State and in the Big 10 Championship game. The focus then shifts to offseason preparation, his expectations for next year's offense, and predictions on breakout players. The episode closes with his advice to current standout football recruits from Idaho like Gatlin Bair and his participation in “Wolverine Weekend” at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa in Traverse City Michigan.
