Bat Therapy: Psychology of Batman and other Comic Superheroes
Remember when we talked about Batgirl: Year One? One of the authors listened and loved it! We talked with Scott Beatty about another comic he co-authored, Nightwing: Year One. Scott Beatty has written several hundred comic book stories for DC Comics and other publishers including CrossGen Entertainment, Dark Horse Comics, Dynamite Entertainment, and IDW Publishing. His most notable releases include Robin: Year One, Batgirl: Year One, Nightwing: Year One, Batman: Gotham Knights, Joker: Last Laugh, Gen13, Number of The Beast, Ruse, Buck Rogers, The Last Phantom, and many others.Get to know more about Scott here:X: @Scott_M_BeattyThreads: scottmbeattyInstagram: scottmbeattyWebsites:https://scottbeatty.blogspot.com/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Beattyhttps://www.amazon.com/stores/Scott-Beatty/author/B00JJDIS3K?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_2&qid=1727738848&sr=1-2&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=true
For years, Wizard magazine reported on the promise of a Gen13 animated film based on the Wildstorm comic drawn by J. Scott Campbell and written by Brandon Choi. The director came from Batman The Animated Series, the cast included Mark Hamill and Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, plus there was plenty of titilating imagery to be had. But although completed, the film was never released and was only seen via convention sold bootlegs. Well now, we are reviewing this lost film and delving deep into the comic book history of Gen13 with special guest, William Bruce West!
Happy Fourth of July to those of you in the USA. Speaking of real estate, today two people move into two real locations. One moves toward the Person and promises and acreage of God--Abram. The other, Lot, moves his tent and his life toward Sodom. This nearly costs Lot his life. Our identity is defined by who and what we move toward. 7 minute listen. Maybe one INCH of movement. DC All Stars is back and with the first episode back Peter and Darrell dive into the recent Wildstorm 30th Anniversary issue which sparked a fun conversation on the new status quo of the Wildstorm characters in the current DC comics.
This time on the Couch: Mike, James, and Shée try to wring some scares out of the Wildstorm Halloween Trilogy of Terror! It's three interlocking stories of macabre ghoulishness feature three interlocking teams of mediocre foolishness! First the heroes of Team 7 bomb the hell out of a sacred Mexican temple because who's even gonna mind? Some sort of vengeful bat demon who lives there? Please! What are the odds of that happening? Next, Gen13 deal with a vengeful bat demon who's super upset about something! Jeez, what's his problem? It's never made clear. Finally, Wetworks stops by to channel the spirit of a Nordic warrior in order to fight some sort of bat-demon-conjuring guy who's really angry for reasons I didn't catch. It should be a great comic, but if it's not, remember: Nobody forced you to listen.

This time on the Couch: Breaker, breaker, 1-9! Mike, James, and Shée are haulin' a big rig loaded up with Ms. Marvel no. 5! In the 1970s, Marvel launched an exciting new hero designed to give young female readers someone to look up to, and then clothed her in a few random scraps of fabric and had her fight a monster truck. Sure, maybe Ms. Marvel never became the feminist icon some hoped she would be, but she did jackknife a semi carrying dangerous chemicals and immediately got into a vicious brawl with an Avenger, so she can hang with the rest of the raging psychopaths we call comic book superheroes any day. In this week's adventure, Magnus takes a stroll down memory lane by cracking open Wizard #44 from April 1995. There's some serious trouble going on with comic book distribution in April 1995. Just like now, but less so. Except back then, people understood that monopolies were bad. To put it another way, it's a time capsule from when the entire comic industry wasn't suffering from Stockholm Syndrome. Plenty of Marvel stuff is going on in this issue, that's the point. Another fun bit of business involves a joint quasi-interview with J. Scott Campbell and Brandon Choi as they yammer about the then upcoming Gen13 ongoing series. Some tantalizing tidbits there. Although, really, it's more like an article that includes quotes from Campbell and Choi than an actual interview. But what the hay, it's still good! After that comes goings on with Chuck Dixon in a bit more of an in-depth retrospective of his whole career up to that point. At least, it's more in-depth than the Campbell/Choi feature.

In this special episode of Indefensible Ink, Ryan and Justin trade bad comics for a reputedly bad movie: the 2000 animated adaptation of the popular '90s super-teens-with-attitude comic Gen 13! Did this direct-to-nowhere movie (featuring the voice talents of Mark Hamill, Alicia Witt, and Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers) get unfairly sent to its room, or was it merely misunderstood? Your hosts delve into this and more, including '90s female superhero fashion, what Gen 13 has to teach us about workstation security policies, some Academy Award-worthy sound effects, and the questionable curriculum of top-secret military academies. Greetings, mallrats and skate betties! This week, Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) dive into a trio of comic books from 1996, all with the same issue number. It's Gen13 issues #13a, #13b and #13c by Jim Lee, Brandon Choi and J. Scott Campbell! After the usual creator bios and background information, they delve into and provide voices for each of these issues, detailing the origins of all featured characters as well as other "valuable" information about their first appearances. After a break, the two wrap up the Gen13 series and other relevant creator info, then talk about some of their favorite gimmick covers from that period in comics history known as the Chromium Age! You're going to want two copies of this episode--one for listening to and the other for bagging and filing away! weirdcomicshistory@gmail.com chrisisoninfiniteearths.com BREAK: Trailer from the Gen13 animated movie by Paramount Pictures and WildStorm
In this week's ball-manifesting episode, Magnus launches a brand new megaseries... the exact duration of which is still up for grabs due to some behind the scenes drama upon which we need not dwell. The shtick of this megaseries is actually rather simple. By far, one of the most controversial events of the 1990's was the advent of Image Comics. And in the ensuing years it would be safe to say that history has not been kind to 1990's-era Image Comics. In fact, the prevailing sentiment is those comics suck. But do they? So the purpose of this series is to take a look back at a few Image titles from that era and reach a different conclusion. Maybe. Or maybe not. Kicking off the series is the oh-riginal Gen 13 miniseries from 1994, which Tom Panarese assures us was the most important year of the 90's. In any case, how does Gen 13 far in retrospect? Have the ensuing decades been kind to this miniseries? Or, like so many other comics, is Gen 13 a dated, cringe-inducing anachronism better left forgotten? The answer to that question can only be "Some time in the first quarter of 2017 is what I keep hearing". For those of you determined to soil the Internet by sharing click-bait, "Gen 13 isn't the only 1990's mainstay that gets saluted in this episode!" Due to the deluge of ass-kickery this week, unfortunately there just wasn't time for listener feedback this week. But don't cry about it because there's more coming in the future! Patience! The vast backlog of feedback will be addressed in due time. Fear not! In the meantime, though, don't let the lack of feedback this time get you down! You can still offer your feeble effort at tribute! You humble serfs are always welcome to kiss your benevolent leader's ring. Corrupt DiManzocorp interns are ready, willing, able and eager to accept your bribe to present your meager missives to your wise emperor. The email address to use is trentusmagnus@gmail.com as the other seems to be having technical problems. In an another sublime act of truly unprecedented charity, your emperor permits you lowly rabble to suggest topics for a future episode. Thus, petitions may be sent to trentusmagnus@gmail.com for DiManzocorp interns to review, whereupon your leader might consider thinking about the possibility of potentially discussing whatever you have in mind some day. And that's a promise!

Finally! So sorry for taking so long with one. In this whopper of an episode( by my standards) I explains my absense. I talk about my time at the 2008 NY Comiccon. I give reviews on Wildcats: Worlds End #1, Authority: Worlds End #1, Gen13 #21, and StormWatch PHD #13, which is filled with spoilers but I neglected to mention that in the recording. I annouce the shows first contest. Then I go over the solicitations for February's WildStorm Titles.Contest: " Who are the original members of Team 7?"Simply answer that question above and send it to me by December 31, 2008, either by email, audio comment, or PM me, and your name goes into a hat and I will ramdomly pick a winner. The winner will recieve ; Wildcats: Worlds End #1, Authority: Worlds End #1, Gen13 #21, StormWatch PHD #13, and Team 7 #1 (from the 1994 series)Download hereEyeofthestormpodcast@gmail.comfrankydejesus@gmail.com1(914)595-6629 (comment line)Subcribe: RSSSubcribe: iTunesSpecial thanks to Derek Coward

Quatro! For Episode four I go over the June solicits for WildStorm and CMX, I give a review of Wildcat #1, and I do a Woman tribute for Woman's history(herstory) Month. No "Into The wild" for this episode, sorry couldn't get my notes together. Hope you enjoy and have a happy Easter! Peace!Download Here
Third times the charm! ... hopefully. I go over the Wondercon 08 news, the May solicits for both WildStorm and CMX. and introduce a new segment "Into The Wild" where I give an overview of certain WildStorm comics. No "Wildshots" segment in this one because I was already late for this episode and I didn't want to put it off any longer. And there is a little blooper reel at the end just to show how much I suck at pronoucing names. Thanks for listening and remember... Keep your eye on the Storm!
