JOIN THE BJDW COMMUNITY HERE   Today's episode is an inspiring and powerful story from Kristen McAvoy, sobriety influencer and founder of Sober Girl Tribe. From party girl days in college to Covid isolation struggles, Kristen opens up about her decade-long struggle with addiction to alcohol, later compounded by Xanax use. Her journey began in college, where she sought freedom and rebellion, slowly drifting away from her Christian faith, ultimately leading to excessive drinking to cope with social anxiety.   Despite facing consequences, Kristen's addiction continued into the corporate world, with a dangerous combination of alcohol and Xanax. She recounts the escalating severity of her addiction, reaching a point where she felt the need for the prescription drug to cope with debilitating anxiety.   Kristen shares a pivotal moment when her parents intervened, leading her to a rehab in Florida. Despite initial resistance, the experience became a turning point, and she eventually embraced sobriety. She emphasizes the crucial role of community in her recovery, citing the support of fellow recovering individuals and her strong faith.   What started as a simple instagram account, Sober Girl Tribe, designed to encourage and inspire others in the sobriety journey has evolved into a thriving online community where Kristen considers it a privilege to walk alongside those struggling with addiction, emphasizing the importance of reaching out for help, finding a supportive community, and practicing patience and self-compassion.   Today's conversion serves as a testament to the transformative power of “recovery” in the freedom from alcohol journey and highlights the strength and resilience gained through navigating the path to sobriety.    You can find Kristen and her adorable mini-goldendoodle Maggie over on the ‘gram @sobergirltribe   Learn More about Coaching with Christy  Learn More about Coaching with Meade   Connect with us on Instagram! @imnotsoberimfree @lovelifesoberwithchristy   You can find this episode on YouTube HERE   The creators, hosts, and producers of the But Jesus Drank Wine podcast are not healthcare practitioners and therefore do not give medical, psychological or professional advice nor do they intend for the podcast, any communication on behalf of BJDW or otherwise to be a substitute for such. One of our favorites from the past year, our interview with Malini Agarwal.....We're talking to a media mogul!! Malini Agarwal, aka MissMalini, is India's most famous blogger with a following of 7.5 million worldwide. We start out talking about how her "diplobrat" life growing up has helped shape her into the women she is today. Malini discusses living through a civil war in Lebanon, how her mom has been her rock and champion FOMO queen, and what led her to the City of Dreams. She tells me why radio is still her favorite medium, the bucket list of 24, her book, To The Moon: How I Blogged My Way To Bollywood, and some epic stories that you can only experience in Mumbai. We of course dive into her best and worst interviews, what it is really like to work with her husband, and her plan to shed light and start conversations around cyber bullying and sexual harassment in India with #ignorenomore. Malini is a staunch supporter of women supporting women, as can been seen with MissMalini's Girl Tribe, and she tells me what she regrets the most throughout her legendary journey. And guys, there's so much more....

Scarlett Clark founded Smart Girl Tribe whilst at university at the tender age of 19!She started SGT because she found that all the media were focussing on was sex, weight and boyfriends, and that wasn't what her and her friends were talking about.Since then, she's built a digital magazine that is the UK's #1 female empowerment organisation, spoken at events around the world, and has become an NSPCC ambassador. As you can imagine, Scarlett faced a lot of criticism when she started her business. People telling her that she was too young, and her university friends not fully understanding why she'd rather set up a business than party all the time. But despite the criticism, Scarlett transformed her adversity to prosperity, and has built the most incredible platform to inspire and empower women around the world. If you're letting your fear and limiting beliefs get the better of you and you're allowing them to hold you back from pursuing your dreams, then this episode is for YOU!Even if you don't deem yourself entrepreneurial; if you have that tenacity and you persevere, anything can happen.Women tend to seek permission or validation, and as long as you continue to seek either of those two things, you'll always be putting an obstacle in your way. What is riskier? Pursuing the dream or not pursuing it at all?Failure is just lessons learned. If you put yourself out there and it doesn't work out; at least you know that you tried. And you never know until you try, so feel the fear and do it anyway.Never forget that successful people are standing on a mountain top of failures, rejection and setbacks, and the difference between a winner and a loser is that a winner shows up one more time.Scarlett is so unapologetically ambitious because she had 100 reasons not to set up SGT but she just went ahead and did it anyway! In fact, she was in Italy the day she launched it, and her phone and Internet connection went down, but she still didn't give up!Scarlett started off her business aged 19 completely broke - in fact she only earned 25p in the first 2.5 years of SGT! She believes that women should have more access to money because as evolution has gone on, women typically haven't experienced money as much as men.In order to improve our money mindset, Scarlett says that we have to arm ourselves with knowledge. She personally has her bank manager on speed dial, and has always gone to her bank for financial advice to understand where and how her money is being spent. As well as, through reading books and listening to podcasts about money.Women are often very conflicted with money because stereotypically we're nurturing, but this means that women are better armed for the direction that business is going in. People no longer want the hard sell; they want to build up a relationship before buying or investing, and it is women, rather than men, who can build these relationships. Also regarding the current situation, Scarlett gives some very sound advice that you don't HAVE to be productive right now, and that if you're hoping to start a business during self-isolation - it's not a race.Scarlett recommends Love Is Not Enough by Merryn Somerset Webb and You Are A Badass At Making Money by Jen Sincero.

Episode SummaryEducation was always highly valued in her household and she being the eldest went for engineering at Kurukshetra. She breezed through the course, but knew she wanted to do something of her own.She got married very early after college, and her first venture was with her husband, where she supported him in back-end jobs. She also tried her hand in the stock market at her husband’s suggestion, but failed miserably at both. These 2 years really took a hit at her self-confidence, with her experiencing true failure for the first time in her life. After that period, she restricted herself to the household for a period. However her enterprising nature didn’t let her continue for very long. She decided to make use of all the samples her husband was getting from China to start her own side-business,s and experienced entrepreneurial success for the first time! Yet, getting that success “too easily” as she puts it, wasn’t something that fed her drive, and so she went out in search of something more. She again joined hands with her husband for a new venture— in the medical transcription business. However, their ideologies didn’t seem to match at any point in how to grow the business. So at long last, Vandana decided to put a pause on her enterprising needs and take a job to rebuild her self-confidence.RV Solutions started as the eventual third venture that Vandana started with her husband, identifying an opportunity in the IT sector where there was a lot of government spend. Within 2 years, they had 800 people on board and were present in every major city in India. They experienced explosive growth, but none of them knew how to handle such growth, and the business had a near-death experience as a result. While her husband and co-founder was intent on shutting-shop and moving on, Vandana recognised the responsibility she had to wards her employees, her vendors, and her clients— all people she owed products and money to! She couldn’t contemplate turning her back on them, and having that be the end of her entrepreneurial journey.Half of RV offices had to close, had to shut shop and lay off half their payroll, which was one of the hardest thing Vandana had to do. The big break for RV came when Vandana recognised a way to truly provide value in an impact. Though her team came down to 150 people from 800 within the span of 6 moths once she took over, it was a loyal and committed 150 that gave their all to the business. The way that Vandana works is the team runs the show, she believes she’s just there. This did however lead to difficulty when an employee left the company, poaching 40 people from one of their key team with him! This event didn’t change Vandana’s leading style though— she didn’t want to punish all her employees for the mistakes of one who took advantage of her trust. She did however sit up and decide not to be a “chair CEO”, as she likes to call it. Being a PAN-India company, she started visiting various sites, interacting with the employees there, putting a face to “Vandana Seth” in their minds as well. Her top lessons in life: Nothing beats handwork. Be kind to people and open to hearing their ideas. Always work on improving yourself. Quotables:“Even a job can be enterprising if YOU are enterprising”“When things come easy, I’m not very receptive of that.”“I was too busy surviving to care about people not taking me seriously ““Starting a business is easy— getting first orders, scaling— but sustaining a business, now that’s a challenge!”“The way I work is the team runs the show, I’m just there.”“Too much analysis, leads to paralysis.”

IntroductionThe Boss Brown Women podcast is a show for and about inspiring women, and the heartbreaks, lessons and triumphs they experience on their journeys to success. My name is Lavanya Aneja, and I’m the creator and host of this podcast. My aim with this project is to create and foster a community for women starting out in the fields of business and entrepreneurship; by providing a platform for female leaders in these fields to share their stories, I hope to inspire and educate the next generation of pioneers, and to provide them with access to guidance and mentorship on their journeys. The words blogger or social media influencer today have become commonplace— but there was a time, pre-Instagram and Facebook—when the terms had little to no significance. In India, this term began to take shape and meaning with the advent of digital platforms like Miss Malini. In this episode, I’m talking to Malini Agarwal herself, to learn about how she created her online empire, and how in 2020 she continues innovating and breaking boundaries with ventures like GirlTribe and Miss Malini Trending. SummaryWith her personable aura and tenacity, she’s warmed her way into one of the most sought-after industries in the country: Bollywood. In her book, “To the Moon: How I Blogged my Way into Bollywood”, she explores how she got her start with her blog, and However, Miss Malini has grown far beyond the confines of just being a bollywood gossip platform (though that does make up a chunk of their content). A lot of that is owed to Malini’s uncanny ability to adapt to the times and keep up with all trends before they even become that. She possesses an innate savviness when it comes to using social media-- Miss Malini is present on every social platform, and works on promoting and recognizing trailblazing content creators on said platforms as well. Her latest venture, Miss Malini Trending is a social desk that recognizes and posts about social media influencers-- she describes them as the “new age celebrities, the ones people look up to and follow” (literally and metaphorically). Malini has a deep understanding of her consumer-- she’s built a persona of the average Indian millennial woman, “Robbie”, and she has a calendar in place, that keeps track of all the things that “Robbie” would care about. This technique is how she ensures Miss Malini consistently delivers relatable and desired content to its average consumer. From that understanding, she started a Facebook group called “Malini’s GirlTribe”: a safe space for women to express themselves and share their thoughts, fears and revelations with each other. She herself had been subject to a lot of online hate and objectification as a woman on social media, so she strived to make a safe haven for women online, where there are simple rules on engagement that make for kinder, more humane interactions. Malini views social media as a mirror of reality: if you wouldn’t behave in real life how you do online, how can you justify such behaviour? Malini has a few simple rules that she prescribes to be a better, kinder person online--one that mimics how you would be in real life. Never post anything about someone that you can’t say to their face.Remember that followers are people too.Spark joy with what you post. These rules, she believes, can be a catalyst for change, to make social media a better place; one free of cyberbullying and hateful rhetoric.Quotables “Social media has democratised everything— you don’t need to be born into wealth or have connections anymore.”“With Miss Malini, I would say I’m trying to create the modern-day Oprah network, for the digital age, for the millennial brown girl.”

You know the Girl Tribe girls, Carrie Barker and Sarah Baucom. But do you know their boys, Derek and Ryan? Well, you will after listening in on the triple date night we had with them. You’ll learn how Carrie and Sarah turned a high school “close acquaintanceship” into two besties starting and now running one of the fastest growing businesses in Charlotte, why none of us will be chairing our local chapters of the La Leche League anytime soon, and that “be the scientist” is the relationship advice you never knew you needed. Listen in and enjoy getting to know the masterminds behind this powerful business turned #girlpower movement, and their super supportive partners who help free them up enough to make it all happen. Jake, in particular, was pumped to commiserate (ahem... hear from) some other dads who do heavy lifting kiddo duties. And to accidentally play for the girls' team during Catchphrase. AGAIN. In 2014, Sarah Baucom and her high school classmate, Carrie Barker, founded Girl Tribe Co. Both women were starting families, and their brand came before their product. They knew they wanted a brand that would empower women, but were not sure what their product would be.  Fast forward 5 years, and Sarah now has two young daughters and a thriving business. Sarah and Carrie's business started with graphic t-shirts, and has become a retail shop and a traveling pop-up show featuring women-owned businesses.  Sarah and I shared a lot of laughs as we talked about Girl Tribe's famous van (named Becky), the unique away message Sarah used during her last maternity (she totally channeled her inner royal princess), and the beginnings of the businesses. But we also talked about the pressures small businesses face in our current digital world, and the difficulties in transitioning from our "work energy" to our "mom energy" levels at home.  When it comes to leaving a legacy, Sarah has a vision and a goal, and as a 30-something entrepreneur, there is no doubt she'll reach her goals.  You're going to find Sarah to be a fun bundle of energy with clear focus and dedication to her work, her business partner, and, most importantly, her family.  Check out Sarah on Instagram at @sarahbaucom and Girl Tribe on Instagram at @girltribeco and online at www.girltribeco.com.  For more inspiring stories of moms making a difference, check out www.influentialmotherhood.com, and follow Melissa Duncan online at @influentialmotherhood on Instagram and Facebook.

On this episode of the Real Rebel Podcast Band of Rebels edition, we're doing things a bit differently. For the span of the next 6 weeks, I’ll be asking 18 Rebels the same question. “What advice would you give your 20-year-old-self?” The panel of Real Rebels for this episode are Jaclyn Shaw from Girl Tribe, Ben Goresky from Evolving Man, and my Mom Lisa B.Each of their answers was taken from the end of their previous episodes when I ask them this question in the rapid-fire segment. The Band of Rebels series was designed to act as a platform for the voices of the RRP Community. So often we listen to a podcast and don't ever connect with fellow listeners. We also live in a world where we're judged by the number of followers we have. Often times we only end up hearing the wisdom and voices of those who have large social followings. This isn't to say those humans are lovely humans, I just feel it's important to branch out. Just because someone has 10 followers doesn't mean they don't know some good sh*t worth sharing. I firmly believe that we all have a deep inner-wisdom, regardless of the number of followers we have to our name. The Band of Rebels series puts the mic in the hands of people you might not otherwise hear from while simultaneously connects you lovely listeners with other listeners whose wisdom might just be the remedy you needed. Lots of love! Your Host - Katie B

We ran a poll in the Fit & Nourished Mind Private Group all about #girltribes and what they looked like for everyone. We decided to chat about the results of the poll and how we think people can nail down the "right" girl tribe. This has been a big topic lately, so we wanted to ask OUR tribe what they thought. These were the options in our poll: I have a strong tribe of badass women and they are my lifeblood My sister(s) IS my bestie and she’s awesome! Just a couple close female friend but we’re like sisters Feel like it’s tough to meet new women and am looking to find/create my tribe Kind of a lone wolf and I like it that way (#introvertsunite) Males seem easier to get along with than women for me We're also sharing a ton of personal stories from childhood bullying to wedding invites, how we have established our own girl tribes that we know always have our backs, and the ONE major factor that is the key to creating these sisterhoods. Your Next Chapter

“The intuitive voice has the blueprint for our lives, but we choose not to listen to it.” Catie Fenn The One Thing to Takeaway From This Podcast How to Connect with Your Deepest Self   Learning which part of the mind is talking to you is key to connecting with your deepest self.    Understanding whether your personality is speaking, or your egoic mind, or your inner critic, or your inner perfectionist versus finding the voice of your higher self is integral to connecting intimately with yourself. Catie Fenn, my guest on this podcast, says that one way to find this voice - your intuitive voice, yourself wisest and truest self - is to create space to start identifying which voice is speaking to you.  When we create space, we can listen to the voice that is speaking to you like a best friend. A voice that is supportive and encouraging of yourself. The one that comes from your deepest truth to reconnect with the real you. By listening to your deepest voice, it will lead you into states of flow that will allow you to fulfill your life's purpose. It’s trusting in that voice that will lead you to magic. That's when you know you’ll have tapped into your spirituality, and begun living in alignment with your deepest self. As long as we allow the egoic mind, personality mind, perfectionist mind or critical mind to rule our domain, we’ll never connect with our true self. 6 Things You’ll Learn From This Podcast Where Catie has fallen in love with her life @ 3:10 How to start aligning with your deepest self @ 27:20 To fulfill your life’s purpose here is what you must do and listen to @ 28:55 To have everything provided for you in life here is the key thing to follow @ 32:10 How Catie practices self-love @ 39:40 Where you can find support if you feel alone, it's not where you might expect @ 52:55 Who is Catie Fenn? Catie is the founder of Love Warrior and a practicing lawyer when she is not teaching people how to create a deeper spiritual connection with themselves. She was instrumental in bringing Girl Tribe to Toronto from Vancouver and is also a kids meditation teacher. Why did I bring Catie onto the show? I brought Catie onto the show because when I met her at an event in Toronto, she was in the midst of launching her next chapter. Catie admitted that she recently had a "spiritual smackdown" where she worked so hard to achieve the life she always wanted - being a lawyer on Bay St., living in a downtown condo, dating a guy in a suit and traveling around the world - but when it all came true she was left feeling empty. Catie was forced to reconnect with her deepest self and figure out why she wasn't fulfilled by the life she dreamed. Learning how to connect with your intuition, living in flow and being in alignment with our purpose can be a messy business. The word purpose can even scare people away. Catie outlines in this podcast how she was able to reconnect herself with her spiritual self and how she supports her clients in connecting with their deepest self.
