Today we had the privilege of sitting down with Dr. Emily Heisey (Doctor of Physical Therapy) and Dr. Matt Otteman (Doctor of Chiropractic), Co-Owners of KinActive Kids and Pediatric Development Experts! As a parent it can feel overwhelming and often intimidating to focus on each milestone your child is supposed to hit at each age group, but Dr. Emily and Dr. Matt take the stress away by showing parents easy (and super fun) ways to play with your kids while also encouraging their brain development! They offered some amazing insights into what we all can be doing to stop comparing the progress of each of our kids and start honing in on each child's unique way of learning. Such a cool conversation- we learned so much! Love you guys! In this engaging conversation, Stephanie Czerwinski and Katie Finch, Co-Owners of Palmetto Women's Collective, share with host Erin Kienzle how their group began. They recognized a need for a faith-based women's community that could support and nurture both the personal and professional lives of its members. As a result, the collective fosters genuine connections, offering a supportive environment for personal interaction, prayer, and encouragement, alongside valuable business support through networking. Many of these connections happen around a table where women share meals or coffee and discuss their experiences with the group. While the collective includes business owners and women in various professions, it also warmly welcomes stay-at-home mothers, whom they aptly describe as the "CEOs of their households." The group's members primarily reside in Mount Pleasant and Daniel Island, with a growing presence in Summerville, Johns Island, and even stretching up the coast to Myrtle Beach. Tune in to discover the details of their meeting locations, the nature of their interactions during gatherings, and other fascinating aspects of the Palmetto Women's Collective. I'm so thrilled to introduce you to our first restaurant owners and cookbook authors ever to be on the show! Their story is so inspiring. There is no question that starting a restaurant is capital R risky, stressful, scary and overwhelming, but what if it included the arrival of a hurricane two weeks later, then a pandemic, then the ebbs and flows of any business. How can you go from two friends who had a similar and separate dream to a partnership that takes you from cooking in a studio apartment, to pop ups to being showcased on the Food Network, YES! A fully plant-based restaurant made it all the way to Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Then take this to creating products, then to writing your own cookbook. Alex Mazzucca & Cara Duerr, the chefs, co-owners, and visionaries behind Seed to Sprout, have turned their passion for plant-based cuisine into one of the most celebrated brands on the Jersey Shore. What began as weekly pop-up dinners in 2011, quickly evolved into their restaurant Seed to Sprout — a must-visit destination for food lovers nationwide. Known for their inventive, flavor-forward dishes and welcoming atmosphere, their restaurant draws in both vegans and non-vegans alike. Their success has even caught the attention of Food Network's Guy Fieri, who featured them on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, praising their food as "delicious" and calling them true "pioneers" in the plant-based culinary scene. Join us today in talking about what it was like to cook and share food for first responders and a community in need after hurricane Sandy, just two weeks after opening their doors for the first time. Alex and Cara share with great honesty about the hardships and the joys of opening your own restaurant, how sometimes you need to backtrack on an expansion to reconnect with the other things that are important to you, how you can stay true to your vision no matter what your accountant says. They talk about their incredible restaurant on the Jersey shore, Seed to Sprout, their connection to the community, their drool worthy dishes, how their customers include everything from the yoga crowd to business men to construction workers, all looking for a different food option that is both tasty and that feels so good. With Thanksgiving and the Holiday Season coming up, they were also here to talk about how to start approaching vegan Holiday cooking, they share amazing tips for amping up flavors, give us tons of basics for everything from delicious mains, to veganizing sides, wow-ing people with vegan desserts and of course, making the best stuffing and gravy that will have non-vegans reaching for seconds. I hope you love my conversation with this dynamic and friendly duo, changing the vegan scene in New Jersey, and helping so many people along the way. A little warning before we begin, if you're anything like me, susceptible to signage as Kirk from Gilmore Girls would say, you WILL get hungry. You may want to pay attention to what goes into your body, including where the foods and beverages you consume are grown and raised.  This is one of the things that Ecologist Mark J. Easter discussed on the show and in his newly published book, "The Blue Plate: A Food Lover's Guide to Climate Chaos."  The impact that microbes have, whether negative or positive, on Earth's environment can change based on actions we take.  In his book, he combines his years of research and experience in his field and focuses his attention on what fuels Earth's carbon emissions crisis, and how we can help reverse the cycle through our consumption of food.  He breaks down each chapter like a plate of food while attending a dinner party, combining his scientific knowledge with personal history and stories.  If nothing else, it may change your mind and view on where you buy, eat, and discard your meals and perhaps inspire you after reading Mark's book, "The Blue Plate."(https://www.patagonia.com/product/the-blue-plate-a-food-lovers-guide-to-climate-chaos/)There is clearly a significant theme for this week's show, and what better way is there to highlight regenerative and sustainable farms than focus on an author who is aiming to heal the Earth through what we grow and eat, as well as spotlighting a group that are looking for the most nutrient-dense, organic  agricultural and farms. So, stay tuned to hear from Matt Kirchner, one of the Co-Owners for Local Bound Collective (LBC).  LBC consists of like-minded individuals who wanted to organize a way for organic and sustainably-focused farmers to offer their produce, meats, and products to be available for restaurants, grocery stores, and markets in one place! Matt has worked on farms and inside local grocer chains, and saw a need to advocate for organic farmers who offer bountiful produce, meats, and cheeses so they can help connect restaurants & stores to their local farms.  Their initiative also helps to reduce food waste: It aids in providing farm-fresh products for consumers to purchase at local stores, with an eye on the details of the business' needs. IG:    https://www.instagram.com/localbound.pa/Web: https://philly-hub.localline.ca/shop  I also popped on to highlight some of Food Farms And Chefs Radio Show guests who focus on maintaining and supporting the farm-to-table, regenerative, organic, and sustainable agriculture & livestock practices.  Later, I also dropped some information on some of the places that I've recently found during my driving adventures, which includes restaurants and fast-casual eateries & bakeries in NY, NJ, and DE.  So listen to the last short segment in case you want to visit some of the spots that I've been to!

She transitioned to focus on business and got her MBA in that verticle. She met Davin while working in one of his restaurants and they pivoted to open Wrench and Rodent in 2013 and The Plot in 2019. Jessica focuses on FOH, design, and accounting/numbers while Davin is a chef, primarily focused on menu and BOH. There are currently 3 Plot locations. Bea and Harvey take time to talk to us about their early activism in the 1960s and 70s, how they met, the start of Eastwind Books, the importance of becoming a publisher, and more. A bold and carefree woman. A living embodiment of human adventure. A confident explorer known to travel the world atop a moose. Archer Roose, the fictional character that Marian Leitner created to represent her wine brand in name and label design, is all of those things. One could say the same (except for the moose part) about Elizabeth Banks, the Hollywood multi-hyphenate known for acting roles in the films “The Hunger Games” and “Love & Mercy” and as the director of comedies “Pitch Perfect 2” and “Cocaine Bear.” Aligned in personality and passion for wine, Elizabeth and Archer Roose formally partnered in May 2021, when she joined the company as a co-owner and Chief Creative Officer. Her arrival came seven years after Marian and husband David Waldman launched Archer Roose, a brand developed to “deliver a better, luxurious glass of wine in a conveniently portable, sensibly portioned, and environmentally conscious package.” Archer Roose markets six varieties of wine, including Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Pinot Grigio and a Bubbly Rosé, each packaged in 250 mL cans and sold individually and in four-packs. The brand is represented in thousands of bars, restaurants and retailers across the U.S., including Target, Sprouts and Total Wine & More. Archer Roose is also the exclusive wine brand on JetBlue flights and in March partnered with Regal Cinemas to bring its Bubbly and Malbec cans into over 100 theaters nationwide. We recently sat down with Elizabeth and Marian for a conversation about the origins of their relationship and how they built rapport, trust and set expectations for each other;, how they incorporate a sense of adventure, breaking rules and relatable humor into Archer Roose' marketing strategy; and why entering Target meant being about to swing at a pitch they could hit. Show notes: 0:35: Elizabeth Banks & Marian Leitner, Co-Owners, Archer Roose – Taste Radio editor Ray Latif and Elizabeth share their love for game show “Press Your Luck,” the reboot of which she hosts, before he compares the relationship between Archer Roose's co-owners to the film “Fight Club.” Marian explains her desire to create a philosophy around a whimsical logo, how Elizabeth's vision board helped her identify Archer Roose as a brand that “checked tons of boxes” for her and the importance of optimizing the drinking and pouring experiences. They also discuss Archer Roose's steampunk aesthetic, how Elizabeth's college thesis aligned with the brand concept and how doing the dishes at Marian's house helped cement their friendship. Later, Marian explains how the Archer Roose attempts to incorporate Elizabeth's personality and humor into its advertising, why they ask their lawyers for forgiveness for some content, the notion that there's “nothing worse in business than not being able to deliver on your word,” and how they are attempting to change a consistently challenging industry dynamic.
