On this week's episode of Grease the Wheels, Uncle Jimmy goes further down the “talent acquisition” rabbit hole and finesses some good ideas out of mediocre ones. Establishing relationships with tech schools, colleges with automotive programs, and even some high school trades are a good start - but they need to be catered to the objective reality that the applicants are facing that cars are getting harder to work on every single day. We also get into the idea of hiring both the formerly incarcerated and homeless veterans to fill the ranks of automotive shops, which both come down to the willingness of the individual to develop and make a serious career of it. They also may require some additional support outside of work, and if their employers can help with that it will likely greatly increase their odds of being a successful part of your business. With the shortage being so dire and younger generations not yet interested in personal transportation - the future looks really bright for the people in these generations who enter the trades, especially one where the shortages are going to cause massive wage increases like the Automotive Industry. Also Uncle Jimmy threatens an end-run on every single automotive “Talent Acquisition Specialist”This episode is distributed by The Wrenching Network. The answer to the title is a BIG. FAT. NO! Ha! Today I speak with the beautiful Lael Stone. I had to get her back again! She's an author of a new, wonderful book called Raising Resilient and Compassionate Children. She's the creator and director of a school, Woodline Primary. Lael works with the Resilience Project and she is the creator and co-host of the Aware Parenting Podcast. But wait, there's more....she's worked with teenagers teaching sex ed, and she was also a doula for many years. Oh my gosh, is there anything that she hasn't done? So, if we know the Behaviourist Approach is no longer working for us and we know the impact it has on children, what do we do instead? Have a listen to find out! Em and Lael discuss: - What is Behaviourism and why are schools still relying on it? - The good girl/good boy paradigm - The negative affects of Behaviourism - Do you look at children through the lens of good and bad? - How do we start making the shift? - How do we manage children's big feelings? - Why self-compassion is an essential ingredient - Children and unmet needs - Looking behind the behaviour- What does that mean? - Why harsher consequences are not the answer and neither are rewards - Supporting students to help them recognise what they need - The smallest piece of connection matters - Why it's hard going against the grain You can find Lael at @laelstone on Instagram or head to her website https://laelstone.com.au/ Find Em @thegradguide_ on Instagram or on Facebook at The Grad Guide Click the link below to join TGG Mentorship- Doors CLOSE Monday 30th Jan 7pm https://www.thegradguide.com.au/mentorship

Today I talk with Em Hollis, a women's empowerment coach and breathwork facilitator. She's passionate about sharing her story of going from a depressed, pain-pill addicted, stressed-out, insecure, self-proclaimed people-pleaser mom, wife, and business owner to living a life of freedom both internally and externally in all areas. Listen in to hear how Em helps people live life beyond their limits, get back in touch with their bodies, and connect with their higher selves. Topics We Discuss: [2:37] The concept of breath being a tool for transformation or spiritual growth goes back thousands of years, but only now are more people becoming aware of it. [8:25] What drives Em's work is that breathwork allows people to connect with and feel their souls, their higher beings and selves, while also simultaneously feeling their bodies. Bridging both of those worlds is where the magic can occur. [13:33] Just learning how to extend one's exhale, which is supposed to help with relaxation, can actually trigger panic in some people. Many are so used to looking out for threats and being in that hypervigilant fight or flight state that a parasympathetic response can feel unsafe. [20:35] We've all disconnected so much from our bodies. Our breath is the only thing that keeps us alive and yet we're so disconnected from it. Em explored meditation for years but felt there was a missing piece for integration: breath was that piece. [28:37] You don't need to know where an emotion is coming from, your breath will bring it up. That's because when you make breathwork a part of your practice, it triggers your limbic brain and people start having access to more memories. [30:24] Em leads us in a five minute rhythmic breathing session. It makes me feel buzzy and clear-headed. That's because when doing breathwork, you're going into a parasympathetic response, and when we relax more we can more easily tune into those frequencies. [38:22] Em does a free breathwork ceremony on the first Sunday of every month. Follow her on Eventbrite to sign up! FOLLOW EM HOLLIS: Find Em on her website or on Instagram. Six years ago Em went through a health crisis after the birth of her second child. Her symptoms of dizziness, brain fog, derealization, eyes that didn't want to focus, anxiety, vestibular migraines (and more) were a chaotic storm that hit her system. Her symptoms were 24/7 for close to two years. Eighteen months into her journey she was diagnosed with vestibular neuritis and vestibular migraines (but also had other labels thrown at her). She dedicated herself to learning about holistic nutrition, embarked on a journey of healing the root cause, embraced a non-toxic lifestyle, neuroplasticity and furthered her knowledge of fueling health every step of the way (and continues to). These days she coaches other Vestibular Warriors to move through their vestibular something aS well as being a holistic nutritionist helping people utilize lifestyle medicine to fuel health. She shares her story extensively over on Vestibular Warrior YouTube channel and in her two books "Uncovering Bliss: A Journey With A Vestibular Condition and Beyond" as well as "Creating Bliss In Your Life With A Vestibular Condition and Beyond".
